Hi, we're the Tokens, and you know this song for the place for you, and the place for me, is a local public library.
There, books and paintings that they lend for me, it's the latest, it's the greatest, it's the library.
Today's public library is more than books, and if you haven't been there lately, you're missing plenty.
Read, listen, look, take part, learn, grow, enjoy yourself, and your public library.
Education, information, entertainment, that sensation, it's a way of life, it's for you and me.
It's the latest, it's the greatest, it's the library.
It's the latest, it's the greatest, it's the library.
Your public library.
Yeah, Shane King is here from your public library, the received public library.
Thank you for coming in today to appreciate it.
Yeah, thanks for having me.
And we have a slower people from the library coming in talking about programs going on.
You pay your taxes, it's the library, you should use this stuff.
That's right.
So use it, it's there, and it's fun, it's educational, and you can get movies from the library, you can get everything from the library.
You can get tools from the library.
Really?
Not lawnmowers, small tools.
The snowblowers?
Less dangerous tools.
Things where you want to use your toes.
Yes.
Okay, let's talk about some of the more programs and some of them more.
Let me go somewhere with the library, let's talk about some more programs you have at the library.
We talked about the social service program for citizenship testing, but feeding America through food share.
Yeah, what is that?
So that's a new program out of this year.
Are you familiar with food share?
So that used to be called food stamps.
Oh, okay.
But now they call it food share.
So that's the benefit where you can get funds to help you purchase food every month.
So you can come into the library on February 3rd.
It's a Saturday between 10.30 AM and 1.30 PM to learn about food share benefits
and connect with somebody in person to discuss how feeding America Eastern Wisconsin
and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services can support you in applying for benefits
and how the benefits can help.
So they'll help both with any general knowledge questions and help you sign up for your application.
No food stamps had a bad connotation to it?
I don't know.
I don't know why they changed it.
Because I remember it was food stamps.
People used to walk in with food stamps or on a sheet or in a little book.
And they used to pay for food and stuff.
I don't know.
Well, now it's all on a card.
Yeah, I know.
Yeah.
People just get unemployment checks.
No, you get it like a Visa card.
I mean, put the unemployment check on the Visa card.
So you don't really get a check in the mail anymore.
I read a thing this morning I was doing on the air.
This thing here.
You know, you're middle aged when.
And one of the thing is that when you go to the bank and make a deposit.
Oh, no.
I've been doing that since I was 18.
Welcome to middle aged.
If I gave you that test now, I read that thing and I got so depressed.
If we have time, we'll talk.
When we get done with this, I'll read it for you.
You can as you can walk out of here.
My life is over.
All right, let's talk about computer skills.
Something we all can use.
Oh, yeah.
And you know, you're middle aged when none of this stuff makes sense to you.
But you do have a lot of computer things going on.
The pleasure got those banks of computers, people.
Oh, yeah.
So there's no excuse to say, well, I don't have the computer.
I can't do that.
Use the library as computer.
Yep.
You can also check out computers from the library.
Really?
Like laptops?
Yeah.
Whoa.
Yeah.
All right, go ahead.
So talk about the computer program.
Yeah.
So all of our computer programs are hosted out of the Innovation Lab,
which is run by our local computer experts.
So we have computer basics, virus prevention and correction workshop.
That's Friday, February 2nd, noon to 1 p.m.
And that is where you can learn not just how to keep your computer free from viruses,
like preventatives, but you could even bring in a computer that has a virus on it
and see if they can help you troubleshoot.
Wow.
Yeah.
You know, I try to stay clear.
I have a laptop at home I use for business and I don't download anything on it.
Mm-hmm.
Do you be careful?
Yeah.
I don't have to worry.
You got to be careful of these spam things too when they say your Hulu subscription has expired.
Wow.
And click here and you click there and you don't really want to even have Hulu.
But I mean, it's so rampant.
If you check your spam mail, you'll see you have like 50 a day in there.
I know.
People trying to scam you.
It's ridiculous.
And don't click on stuff unless you know you asked for it.
Yes, that's the basics right there.
Don't click on links you don't recognize.
Yeah, if I ask Shea for a link and she sends it to me, I'll click on it.
If she all of a sudden I get this strange thing from some email addresses, click here.
You don't click on it.
You ruin your life, trust me.
Steam workshops.
Now, I know what steam work means because I was told that a hundred times and I forgot.
Because I'm in middle age.
Steam is science, tech, engineering, arts and math.
Oh, yeah.
You didn't have to look at the paper for that.
I've also heard it enough times by now.
Okay.
So steam workshops.
What is in it?
So we have a variety of them, but the one that's coming up this next week is for Python programming,
which is one of the different coding languages.
And this one's actually for tweens and teens.
Because we're finding that coding is just an increasingly necessary foundational skill
for a lot of career paths.
So on Saturday, February 3rd, 10 30 AM to 11 30 AM, our tech team will help tweens and teens
learn just the very basic steps of programming using Python.
All right.
Yeah.
Good boy.
Look at all this free from the public library.
SIP and Swipe.
Yeah.
That one is...
Is it sipping like SIP?
I think they have coffee.
Okay.
Yeah.
I thought it stood for SIP.
It was an acronym for something else.
No.
We do love our acronyms at the library, but so that one is Wednesday, February 7th, 1 to 2 PM.
And that's for folks who are 60 years or older.
Oh, she's clutching his chest.
So that is to help you get familiar with tablets and smartphones.
So they'll talk you through navigating webpages, using your email,
and other things that come on devices like that.
My mother was 92 years old, and she was using...
She had a tablet, and she had her phone, and she was always on Instagram, and Facebook,
and she was on these music websites, so she could download her music from the 40s that she liked,
and so forth.
She was always on there only once I had a helper.
She hit the wrong button and turned it into a foreign language.
Uh-oh.
And I didn't know what language it was.
So I took the word, and it was obviously menu, and I put it in Google.
I said, what language is this?
And it was Danish or something.
I don't know.
Oh, my goodness.
Iceland and Kuna.
How did she figure that out?
She didn't.
I figured it out.
She said, all this stuff is all in a different language now.
She said, I didn't hit anything.
Yes, she did.
You hit the language button.
I know where it is.
I didn't hit it.
Yes, she did, mom.
But we got it back in English for her.
But she was 92.
She knew all this stuff.
You know, she was all over her smartphones.
I used...
We have a picture of her in the hospital on a cell phone,
looking to music that she downloaded on her cell phone.
And she's sitting in the hospital bed at 92,
listening to this music, and we have a video of it.
See, and there's kind of a perception that your text skills are tied to your generation.
But we're just...
We're really finding that's not true.
It's really just about, are you willing to learn an experiment with it?
And have you had some basic trading in it?
She never...
Well, I don't think she had any computer training.
She just picked it up.
So she was just to experiment...
Figure it out.
I'm going to mess around kind of person.
One day I said,
you're on Instagram?
And...
No, no, it was Twitter.
I'm not even...
Oh, okay, okay.
Before it was...
What is it?
X, Z, Y, something.
Preston, he's Twitter.
Yeah.
So I knew she was on Twitter.
And I said, how'd you get on there?
I typed it in, joined, and got a password.
But she never told me what her password was.
Oh, no.
So she's passed away now for several years,
and her accounts live on.
Now, I did close down her mail account
because I happen to have that password.
I have some of them.
But she lists these words,
and I don't know if it's a password or whatever.
And so I...
One day I have to go through it
because they say,
in about 25 years,
there'll be more dead people on Facebook than alive.
Hmm, really?
Yeah, how many people on your phone listings now
and your phone are not there anymore?
I have about six or seven people that passed away.
And I...
I don't want to get rid of their phone numbers.
I know.
Because they feel like,
that's the last link I have to them.
I have friends on Facebook
that we've lost that...
And you would happily have a leave birthday on it?
Yeah, I'm not going to take them off.
I know. People don't do that.
Like, what difference does it make?
That's my little personal shrine to them.
But they don't know.
I know I do it too.
Everybody does.
They're afraid to get rid of it.
Yeah.
Okay, let's talk about play,
create, and connect with your community.
Yeah.
The first one,
Senior Bingo.
Senior Bingo.
Actually, this morning.
That's right.
If you want to rush on in right after you listen,
that starts at 10 a.m.
Or on the first Thursday of every month.
So you'll get a chance to see it again in March.
What are they play for?
They play for scratch cards.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
So you could be a millionaire.
You could be.
Oh, wow.
Or you could win like $2, you know?
Or nothing.
Or nothing.
You could somehow end up owing money.
No, you can't hold it.
You can't come out flat or ahead.
Senior Bingo is the first Thursday of the month.
It's today 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
All right.
Smash bash.
Yes.
Freight has what that is.
That one is where you can come in and play
Super Smash Brothers for the Nintendo Switch.
Oh, that's today.
Yeah, that's also today.
Five o'clock this afternoon.
Is that the first Thursday of the month too?
This one has, I think this might be its last date.
I would have to double check,
but it doesn't have a regular pattern of repetition.
There's something brand new.
Beat the raider.
Oh, that one got canceled just after I wrote this up for you, actually.
Oh.
It'll be happening again in March.
Oh, that's true.
That we don't have a February date for beat the raider,
but it's happening again in March.
You can visit RacingLibrary.info slash calendar to sign up for it
and play Madden against a member of the racing raiders.
This sounds kind of heady, the young writers guilds.
Yeah.
That one is Monday, February 5th, 5 to 6 p.m.
and the first one day of every month.
It's for ages 8 to 18.
So kind of a wide range there,
but it's a great place to bring in any stories,
poems, fanfiction, screen plays.
Anything you're working on that involves writing.
You can bring it in and workshop it with other writers.
Learn some tips and tricks for how to build your stories and what have you
or just hang out and work on your piece.
Now, here's something that people don't know.
They'll say, well, I didn't see these Academy Award-nominated movies.
Now, if they came out on DVD and Blu-ray, the library's got them.
Oh, yeah.
You've got Oppenheimer.
You've got the Holdovers, which I want to see.
And I know you have it or access to it because on your website,
you have a search thing.
That's right.
And it said you have the DVD to the Holdovers.
Now, there's probably a list of people that want that before me.
But still, I mean, I want to see that movie.
And if I can't see it on theater, I can see it at home.
And you have it at the library.
And you can put it on home, get in line.
They'll send you an email and it's ready.
And it's pretty fast.
There are 230 people before you, Mr. Roy.
You should have it by this Thursday.
Well, and there's usually copies from other libraries that are in our system.
So you'll probably end up with it within a week or two is what I usually find.
If there's a long hold list.
Jay King is here.
Jay is the head of business development for the Racine Public Library.
More would say coming up in a moment.
719 at WRJ and radio where it's going to be sunny today with a hundred forty three.
Sunday tomorrow with a hundred thirty eight sunny Saturday, sunny Sunday.
Oh, it's getting so tiring saying sunny.
So tomorrow, Punxitani fell and we've got the Groundhog in Wisconsin.
We'll find out what they're up to.
If they see their shadow or not six more weeks of winter or an early spring.
Isn't it funny how we count on a Groundhog to predict our weather?
Everybody's like so excited.
Oh, no, six more weeks of winter.
He's a shadow.
We didn't see a shadow.
I've more coming up WRJ and stay.
At 720 at WRJ and radio.
Jay King head of business development for the Racine Public Library is here.
I was reading a list this morning of groups that never received the Grammy.
And there's a beach boys who are on there, cleaners on there.
I can't believe clean never got one.
You've got so many big groups never got, including Abba.
Never got a Groundhog.
Yes.
Never got a Groundhog.
He never got a dinner.
No.
Groundhog.
We're talking about Groundhog Day.
Groundhog Day with Chuck Chuckers.
Okay.
Groundhog Day was filmed in Woodstock, Illinois.
It's not that far from here.
It's about an hour or so from here.
Maybe a little more than an hour.
They filmed the entire movie there.
Really?
Yes.
The entire movie's filmed there.
You've seen Groundhog Day, right?
Oh, yeah.
Okay.
You know the gazebo in the town square?
See.
I may have seen it, but I don't have the best memory.
Okay.
Well, it's in the library.
You can go rent the movie.
Take it out.
Anyway, they have the gazebo in the town square.
We're Bill Murray.
And whether you had the opening of the film with Punxitani film.
Because it takes place in Punxitani, Pennsylvania.
But they filmed it in Illinois, Woodstock.
So you've got the park there where they keep going back day after day.
You've got the opera house where he went to.
You've got the bars.
When he kept stepping off the sidewalk into that hole of slushy water.
They've got that.
Now they dug that up for the movie and then they redid it.
But there's a sign showing where he stepped up.
Bill Murray stepped up the sidewalk.
And then he went to learn how to play the piano with the teacher's house.
You can drive past that house.
It's right a few blocks from the downtown area.
You can drive by there.
Everything was filmed there in Woodstock and only the entire movie.
That's cool.
And with that guy is running after him in the street.
The insurance salesman each time.
You could follow.
You could talk to that path.
So if you want to go where they filmed Groundhog Day.
And they do ceremonies every year on Groundhog Day.
You can go down to the Woodstock Illinois and take a tour.
My wife and I did it.
They have a map and everything online.
So you know exactly where they filmed it.
I got to take my dad there.
He loves Bill Murray.
Yeah.
Woodchuck checkers.
It's Groundhog Day.
Let's talk about some of the other programs here.
Minecraft Club.
You know there's a movie.
They're going to film now Minecraft.
And I...
How have I not heard about that?
Yes.
There is a movie and I don't have the sheet in front of me now.
But they announced the stars of it.
And I forget who it was.
You think your memory is bad.
So they're going to film Minecraft.
And what's the Minecraft Club?
It's whatever it is.
It's happening on Tuesday, February 6th.
Are you familiar with the game Minecraft?
Only heard of it.
Okay.
So it's kind of like virtual Legos.
Is the best way to describe it.
So we're going to be bringing in 6th through 12th graders on Tuesday, February 6th, 6th to 7pm for it.
We're watching them in.
They're invited in.
They'll be coming in themselves to play a session of multiplayer Minecraft.
It might be in creative mode.
It might be in survival mode.
We'll do a little bit of everything.
And you are welcome.
Whether you play bedrock or Java edition.
And you mentioned Legos.
Mm-hmm.
Other than stepping on one when I was, you know, my daughter had Legos.
And thought I was going to go through the roof.
You ever step on a Lego with your bare feet?
Uh-huh.
It is painful.
So the Lego, this is brand new, the Teen Lego Club.
That's right.
My next door neighbor has an entire room dedicated to Legos of what he's built.
I haven't seen it, but I keep seeing him with more Legos he brings in.
This is his hobby building things with Legos.
And I'm going to ask him to see it.
I'm going to ask if I can go take a look at it.
But here it's magnificent.
Yeah, take a tour.
Take an over and cut our house.
Legos.
So what's the Lego Club?
So this is the Teen version of a program that we've been hosting for younger kids.
The Teen Lego Club is Wednesday, February 7th, 4 to 6pm and every first Wednesday.
No registration.
Just drop on in.
We've got a bunch of Legos for you to mess around with.
You can build whatever sparks your creativity or you can bring in your own Legos to show
off if you want to.
That's a lot of stuff to bring in.
I know.
When they made the Lego movie, I was on the air with Brett Hoffman, who was our guy from Marcus
Seaters.
And I said, who made this stupid movie?
This is not, no one's going to go see this.
I mean, what kid wants to go see a movie based on a plastic toy?
Right.
It was one of the biggest movies of the year.
And genuinely a good movie.
I would have never had thought that this movie would have got one person paying to go
see it.
And this is why I'm not rich.
I also said the Super Mario Brothers movie was going to flop.
I said, I said, I once said to him, do you know they're making a movie based on Barbie,
the Barbie doll?
Who's going to go sell them?
Kids going to go see that stupid movie.
The biggest move, one of the biggest of all time.
I've seen it twice and I'm not done yet.
And it's up for best picture.
This is why I can't make good investments, because I'm not smart when it comes to investments.
I would have said no one's going to go see these movies.
And I remember when Star Wars came out in 1976, I worked at a radio station in New York and
we had the premiere at the big center, Rama theater.
They're going to show Star Wars on this big giant curb screen.
That's cool.
I said, are we really going to give tickets away to this turkey?
Who's going to want to go see this movie?
Star Wars.
But keep in mind, nobody had ever heard of Star Wars before.
That's true.
We had tickets printed up and all the disc junkies had a show up in the lobby of this big center,
Rama theater.
And we showed up and I said, there's nothing in this movie.
Again, this is why I'm not the rich.
I don't know how to invest in movies.
And Star Wars, of course, one of the biggest phenomenon in the history of the world.
And I said, no one's going to give tickets to this.
Or there's so many other great movies out there.
And we're going to base up reputation on this thing.
It looks stupid.
And what do I know?
I know how to play chess, but I'm not great at it.
I don't know the secret moves.
Me neither.
So I got to play against somebody who's not too bright and maybe I can win.
Well, luckily the chess club is open to all experience levels.
So chess club is Wednesday, February 7th and every two Wednesdays in the community room from 5 to 7 p.m.
So it starts off that you can go to the expert class.
This is the highest class you can go to.
You can go to the OK class.
People begin and you go to the not too bright class.
The people who think it's a horsey who like the horses on the chess board.
Well, all you have to do is show up, find somebody that you want to play against
and just settle in for a match.
No, go ahead.
Oh, it's facilitated by a member of the US chess federation actually.
So I'm sure he'll be able to give you some pointers too.
Yeah, I need the I need the part where I jump right to checkmate.
I need a checkmate, right?
Right.
Yeah, that's making sure I got that right.
Actually, I do I do like chess.
My wife and I play backgammon all the time.
Oh, really backgammon.
I found my backgammon board from like the 1970s.
It's a leather bound board and it's it's so good.
You have a nice one.
Yeah, we love playing backgammon.
The only thing is we still have to look at the picture and how to set it up.
You figure after all these years, I remember how to do it.
And if I'm not the same color every time on the board, I get confused because we'll switch off.
And now I don't know what I'm working.
Could you hang in a few more minutes?
Sure.
You have to go anywhere.
I'm good.
I'm taking you to take the middle age test with me.
Okay.
I'm going to do that coming up here.
Shade King, head of business development for the Racine Public Library is here.
It's the latest.
It's the greatest.
It's the library.
I'm going to give her the middle age test.
See how she does.
It's coming up.
Plus, we've got tickets to give away.
I almost forgot.
Let's continue to look down on the ship.
Carried eagle is coming to the Wisconsin State Fair on Friday night August 9th.
You can win a pair of tickets coming up next right here at WRJN Radio.
Stay where you are.
Has a matter of fact you know what?
Let's give him away right now.
Two, six, two, six, three, four, nine, seven, five, six, two, six, two, six, three, four, WRJN.
If you want to see Lauren devil, live onstage at the Wisconsin State Fair on Friday, August 9th.
Give a call right now.
I've got a pair of tickets for you, if you haven't won a pair yet, give us a call.
Six, two, six, three, four, nine, seven, five, six, two, six, two, six, three, four, WRJN.
Algebra 3, that was the worst class ever.
Algebra 3, remember?
I didn't actually take Algebra 3, I took Algebra 1, 3 times.
But that's addition.
But I was wrong.
Back in the day, I would tell the teacher, I'm never going to use this Algebra stuff.
I'd always tell the teacher, I'm never going to use this Algebra.
But you don't use it very much, but once in a while I use Algebra.
Like a few months back, I was in the train station in Baltimore, and train A was going to be leaving the station at 5 p.m.
And traveling west at 80 miles per hour.
And train B was going to be leaving the station three hours later on a parallel track, but going 100 miles per hour.
In Windsor, I was southeast at 18 miles per hour.
There was a 30 percent chance of rain.
The Dow Jones had dropped 200 points that day.
The NASDAQ was up 40.
I weighed 195 pounds.
My blood pressure was 122 over 60.
And the Kansas City Chiefs had a record of eight and two.
And we're at the leaderboard of the AFC West.
And I had to figure out what train to get on.
Luckily, there's an app for that now.
It's called Chu Chu.
Chu Chu, C-A-Q, C-A-Q, just get the free version good enough.
But none of this meant at all.
And it's your been alone at time.
Right up to the time I make you.
So if you take a ride, white by.
It's endless with my love.
It's not easy.
Too early.
Rainy 10 with my love.
736, W-R-JN Radio.
I'm Don Rose.
And I want to thank you for joining us.
Shake King still here.
We're going to get some news headlines here.
From Stuart J. Wattles in our news center today.
He's watching these stories for us.
The received pastor charge was sexually assaulting a teenager
is in the country illegally.
It's that Bernabé Leon Alvarez is a citizen of Mexico
and is currently held in ice custody,
pending immigration proceedings.
They did not appear at a scheduled court hearing yesterday.
We're seeing police say he works with a pocto eternal in Christo,
which rents space from a church in Racine.
Allegations at a criminal complaint suggest that Alvarez repeatedly sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl over a three-year period
for some of the assaults allegedly occurring inside the church.
Spring primary is around the air in the air.
And some communities hold votes in February,
mainly downstate races with multiple candidates to see your ballot.
And if you're voting this month, check my vote dot com.
W-I.
I'm going to start that again.
Check my vote dot W-I dot gov.
In Kenosha County in person absentee voting starts Monday for the February 20th primary.

the tradition of awarding scholarships to outstanding high school athletes will continue
recognizing their exceptional achievements.
More of those stories for keeping an eye on news today on
WRGN throughout the day and night,
Stuart J. Wattles in our news center watching these stories and more.
It's 739.
Shake King is here head of business development for the Racine Public Library.
We're going to find out if she's middle aged or not.
Is we got a test?
It's not a DNA test either.
No, no, no, no.
And this is going to be just,
we're going to see what your habits are.
It's a habit test.
You sleep past,
you cannot sleep past nine o'clock in the morning.
Even on your day off,
do you wake up before nine o'clock?
Oh, I sleep in very late given the opportunity.
All right, check one. That's good news.
You can't start a movie past nine p.m. at night.
That's true.
Or really?
Yeah.
Yeah, we always go to the early show at the theaters.
And if we watch one in the home, it's not that's nine o'clock.
No.
Yeah, I can't do that.
You call your children for tech support.
If kids.
No kid.
I can ask my cat.
And your cat probably has a better answer than you maybe.
You used to fix typos with white out.
Oh, I still do.
Well, how do you do that?
It's I'll write in my journal.
And then I'll be like, ooh,
I want to write that a little bit nicer.
You used to write that.
Yeah.
They still sell it.
Yep.
People still say to me,
I'll go buy it.
They still sell that.
Yes, they still sell that.
Oh, yeah.
They'll say, I listen to CDs in my car.
They still sell CDs.
Yes, they still sell them.
Thank you very much.
You've called a 30 year old kid.
Not yet.
Not yet.
Yeah.
You swap element stories with your friends.
I do that.
Yep.
I was telling earlier today,
my sister-in-law and I were talking on the phone for 40 minutes
about all our aches and pains.
I said, pull on my back.
He said, I get the spasm the other day when I got up.
And I said, you know, I got this thing on my leg.
I never noticed it before.
T and my shoulder has been aching me lately.
And notice something on my forehead that I never saw.
There are things in their spots, their dots,
and everything else going on.
You're on Facebook, but not on Grindr.
That's, yes.
That's correct.
They say, Facebook, some kids I ran through once they say,
Facebook's for old people.
Thank you.
I thought I was hip and happening.
People who say, hip and happing are old.
All right.
You're not as quite sure how you got that bruise.
That's true.
See, I can't this thing on my arm.
Where'd that come from?
Yeah.
That's the bang that's somewhere.
You're like a banana for a while.
Every's like bananas.
These are banging into the stuff that get bruises.
Let's see.
You gain weight just by being near food.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
I look at it and say, oh, oh, I get on the scale again.
You can actually you're ticking up.
When somebody runs a plate of food across me,
you go into the bank to make a deposit.
Yup.
You're doing that.
I work for a bunch of companies, a couple of different companies,
and some of them do automatic deposits.
Some don't.
They send me a physical check in the mail.
And now I said to my daughter, well, how do I do it if I go to the bank?
She goes, I scan the check on my phone and I send it to the bank.
Yup.
It's when you get your relatives give you cash for gifts that then you have to...
I like to keep all of my transactions in my bank,
so then I have to go deposit it.
Well, but she can make a deposit without going to the bank.
She scans it on her phone.
Right.
If it's a check, you can do that.
But cash is the only time I have to go into the bank still.
Yeah.
No, I'm really feeling middle-aged.
I think I'm fast middle-aged.
You're taking a keen interest in bunions and corns.
Oh, not yet.
Not yet.
I don't have those in.
I'm not yet.
But that's sure they're coming.
You've dialed a rotary phone.
Oh, no.
I've not.
Really?
I mean, like, ones that haven't been plugged in, I've messed with them.
But...
Wow.
I've told history of the year before.
I was at the 1964 World's Fair as a little kid, and we used to go there all the time.
That's awesome.
Yeah.
And my mom and dad were in the restrooms.
And my brother and I were dealing with this little phone booth.
They had AT&T or the bell system, or as an AT&T or the bell system set up these phone booths,
push button phones.
That's...
And I had never seen one before.
And I said to my dad, can I call a friend on the phone?
You know, give me a dime, I'll call a friend.
And he said...
And he said, well, these aren't going to go anywhere.
These are just for the state fair.
And this is just for the world's fair.
When you get back, it's all going to be dial phones.
These push button things aren't going to go anywhere.
My father is a seeker of the future.
Very, very good at that job.
You still have a landline.
No.
I don't either.
I remember when I got rid of the landline.
My wife said to me, we're getting rid of the landline because we don't need it anymore.
And I said, I couldn't breathe.
I said, give me some oxygen.
Quick, get the defibrillator.
Clear.
She said to me, in six months, if you still need that defibrillator,
we'll get the landline to put back in.
And I still have...
We have this hole on the wall where the phone...
So I got to keep the phone on the wall because all the big metal thing you hooked the phone up to.
So I still have it in the kitchen.
And we got rid of it years and years and years ago.
But some...
We have a landline here.
We'll do a contest in a few minutes.
That's a landline.
All right.
Because how do you do a contest with that landline?
That's true.
A lot of the guests I call are on landlines.
I'd rather than be on the landline because cell phones don't have the quality of a landline.
Even the Zoom things don't...
They can have problems, but landlines are perfect.
So how about this?
You can't find your glasses and they were sitting on top of your head the whole time.
Not yet.
All right.
So that's the middle-aged thing.
So you did very well on that.
I got seven points.
What's my score?
Well, they were 15 questions.
So you got...
Okay.
So I'm halfway to middle-aged.
Yeah, but you're a young person.
You know, I'm friends with that.
I talked to you about this list of groups that have never been nominated for a Grammy.
You know, I don't think the Beatles have won Grammys, but I think they were honorary Grammys.
No.
Oh, come on.
I'll take a look.
Here are the groups.
Now, the group...
This is a 50-group list.
I just took the...
You know, just a couple of them on here.
Abba, we mentioned the Backstreet Boys, never won.
The Beach Boys, never won.
I mean, how many Rhonda?
I get one.
Who's running these Grammys?
Fun, fun, fun.
Never won.
Diana Ross, never won.
For the Supremes or for her singles.
Guns and Roses.
I know Paradise City, never won.
I love that song.
Paradise City, Guns and Roses.
Journey.
I mean, open arms and all the hits Journey had and...
I mean, they never won.
Katie Perry.
She never won a Grammy.
Kiss.
All right.
I can see.
Maybe I thought maybe the song Beth, their slow song, might have won a Grammy.
But here's the one, Queen.
I mean, I saw that movie Bohemian Rhapsody and I can't believe we have it on...
We've got the Blu-ray family.
I watched half of it and then had to leave the movie night early.
He didn't like it.
No, I loved it.
And they always meant to go back and finish it.
My wife and I saw the movie twice in the theater.
Ooh.
And then we went back and we got the Blu-ray and watched it.
It's such a great movie about how Queen got to where they're where they are.
And how they got this lead singer, Freddie Mercury, who really was an odd looking character.
They really underestimated him.
Right.
And they put this group together.
They didn't get along at one point because Freddie Mercury went off on his own.
Oh, I didn't get to that part of the movie.
Yeah, he went off on his own.
He was told by people you don't need the group.
You go, you do your own thing with them.
And he got mixed up with the wrong people.
And he wanted to get a group together and they said, go leave the room a second.
We're going to talk about this.
We don't know if we want to get back together.
It was for that, it wasn't far made.
It was band-aid, not band-aid.
It was one of the eight groups.
They were putting together.
And they took him back.
And they put the group back.
But at this time, Brian May was already an astrophysicist.
Oh, well.
And everybody had other jobs, families.
But I mean, he was, it's Dr. Brian May is an astrophysicist.
And he didn't know if he wanted to go back to rock and roll.
He was doing this stuff with space and everything else.
Right.
And he didn't know if he wanted to go.
Get your head out of the clouds.
And at this time, Freddie Mercury, the age was kicking in.
Yeah.
And he was dying.
Wow.
Yeah.
This was toward the end.
And he did the famous concert.
And it was probably one of the last times.
But they show him in the movie in a hospital ward walking down the hallway.
And there was a kid.
They're also dying of AIDS.
And he started, the kids started doing the radio Gaga song that Queen did.
And he started clapping as Freddie Mercury went down the hallway.
It's a sad movie because you know how it's going to turn out.
It's not going to be good for him.
But it's such a great, and the movie, how they put these songs together when they did Bohemian rap
The record producer said, are you crazy?
We're not going to put this song out.
It's terrible.
One of the biggest hits in rock and roll history.
And these, these, these managers really don't know much when it comes right down to it.
All right.

Thanks to Shade King for stopping by.
I always love talking to her and folks at the public library here in Racine.
All right.
How do you feel about this, ladies?
All right.
Now this has to do with weddings.
A bride was upset when her bridemaids announced she had just gotten engaged at her wedding.
And that, you know, I know the bride likes to be the center of attention at her wedding.
I know that.
And when somebody gets engaged at your wedding, you're no longer the center of attention.
So that happened.
So the bride got revenge by announcing at her friends wedding that she was pregnant a year later.
So when that woman got married, she announced everybody in the room.
I'm pregnant and she took away her center of attention.
What do you think about that?
That's kind of, I know you probably shouldn't do that.
It's the bride's day and you probably shouldn't do things like that.
Kia, the furniture people paid someone to visit Denmark for a few weeks to study why everyone there is so happy.
There was a movie with Albert Brooks called something in the Muslim world.
It was fun and laughter in the Muslim world, something like that.
And his job was to find out what makes Muslims in the Muslim world laugh.
That's what he, that's what his job was to find out what makes them laugh.
It's a very funny movie.
Hey, if you want to be quote perfectly happy, you should sleep for exactly seven hours, six minutes.
And if you sleep for anything less than six hours and 48 minutes, expect to be miserable.
I have this thing where I go to bed early and then wake up in the middle of the night for a couple of hours, watch some TV and then I go back to sleep.
You probably shouldn't do that.
That's why I'm such a grump because I do things like that.
There's a woman in Illinois whose real name is marijuana Pepsi.
That's her name, marijuana Pepsi, legal name, her family name to that.
And she's proved that having one of the world's strangest names can't hold you down because she just earned her PhD.
And now she says she's doctor marijuana Pepsi.
You know who used to do stuff like that? Frank Zappa, named his daughter, Moon Unit Zappa, and his son, Dweezel Zappa.
So it does happen marijuana Pepsi. It's not a bad name.
Dr. Marijuana Pepsi, excuse me.
95% of all Americans say they hate mornings. Oh, really?
43% despise the sound of an alarm clock.
But they like the person who wakes them up in the morning on the radio.
No, they didn't say that. I'm hoping that's the scale.
I think that's the case though, right?
When you were growing up, you may have dreamed one day of being a millionaire.
But these days having a million dollars really doesn't make you happy anymore or rich.
Neither is two million. The magic number to make yourself feel rich.
Americans consider themselves wealthy if they have an average of 2.2.
See, 2.2 million dollars in assets. That's cash, property, cars, and bling.
2.2 million dollars. Still doesn't sound like a lot.
I mean, it's a lot. It doesn't sound like a lot there.
You're going to be a billionaire, I think, these days.
Everyone could be a millionaire with assets, but you're going to be a billionaire.
Odd, but true. There are 1,066 different final score combinations in the NFL.
If there's my clements, if he knows that.
And there has never been a final score in the NFL 4837.
Never happened.
One of the very first items ever sold on eBay in 1995 was a broken laser pointer
for $14.83.
A founder of eBay asked why the guy bought it. He says I collect broken laser pointers.
All right. Everybody's got to collect something.
And which were the best years of your life?
A new poll asked people which decade represented their best years of their lives.
24% said they expect their 30s to be the best years of their lives.
Another said 21% said their 20s, 15% said their 40s,
9% said their 50s, 7% said their 60s, 6% said under 20,
2% said their 70s, 1% said their 80s.
I thought when I was a little kid, it was the best years of my life.
I loved it. I had a great life growing up.
And I'm talking to one about time I turned 13.
I started realizing, yeah, I've got to work in school.
I've got to do all these things and yeah.
All right.
