The Don Rosen Show · Wed Jan 31, 2024

A French tourist at Arkansas's Crater of Diamond State Park recently found a seven-carried

diamond.

Wow, that is hard to believe.

Someone in France took a vacation to Arkansas?

Well, some business news today, Amazon announced that they are abandoning plans to buy the

maker of Rumba.

Apparently the deal was going great, then it got stuck under a chair.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was formally registered for the upcoming election in March,

and I've seen enough with zero precincts reporting, I'm calling it for Putin.

You know that song got its name?

George Michael's friend, they lived in this guy's mother's apartment which isn't as

lame as it sounds because they were on the road all the time and it didn't pay to have

a regular flat or apartment in London, so they used to sleep at his mother's house when

they were in the area.

One day, I forget Andrews, I can't remember the guy's name, he left a note on the door.

It said, wake me up, mom, mom, by accident, mom, mom, wake me up, mom, mom, and then he

added before you go, go, that's how the song got written.

I'm Don Rosen, thank you for joining me at 608 at WRJM Radio, hump day, it's Wednesday,

the last day of January, this is it, the 31th of January, partly sunny, gorgeous today

with a high near 41 degrees, cloudy with a high near 30, a low near 36 tonight, cloudy

with a high near 43 tomorrow, right now, cloudy and 35 degrees, but to Portland tonight

to take on the trailblazers 830 PM on WRJM, we have tickets to give away this morning,

WRJM is pleased to welcome CCM pop star Lauren Dagle to the Wisconsin State Fair main

stage on Friday, August 9th, Lauren's soulful music is amassed a billion worldwide streams

and sold out headline shows all over the world, she'll perform hits like you say, rescue

and thank God I do, tickets are on sale right now at WYStateFair.com, WYStateFair.com,

at all this week, today, tomorrow and Friday, I've got tickets to give away here at WRJM

Radio.

Later on this hour, I'll give you a chance to win, all right?

One of these days, I'm going to give away two pair of tickets, two in the morning.

Coming up at 706 this morning, it's movie mom, it's Nell Mendo, she's a film critic,

and she will be here to talk about the Academy Award nominations and what's coming out,

and she's probably seen all the nominations I have, and I don't know anybody that's seen

all these nominations, I've never heard of half of them before.

So she's going to talk about that, we're going to talk about her dad, to her dad was Newton

Mendo, he was appointed by John F. Kennedy, President Kennedy, as Commissioner of the Federal

Communications Commission.

He came up with the classic phrase, which is known worldwide, as TV is a vast wasteland

set.

So we'll talk to Nell Mendo, coming up at 706, we've had her on the air and the station

I used to work at, and she's just a wonderful guest.

So you're going to enjoy Nell Mendo at 706 this morning, I think we got all the housekeeping

done, right?

I don't know how housekeeping is officially done now.

Hey, if aliens showed up tomorrow, we're talking about space aliens, space alien showed

up tomorrow, 43% of people say they would be cool if our current world leaders represented

Earth and negotiated with them, 42% believe they would be able to negotiate peace with aliens.

37% of people say they believe aliens are already here amongst us, while 41% don't

think there are aliens among us, 22% don't know, I think that 53% more than half of people

think aliens exist somewhere, 34% said, forget it, they don't exist.

Number one, who said when they come down here, they want to negotiate with peace for peace,

maybe they just want to take us over, but that twilight zone episode where the aliens

come down and what they do is they give the world things to make plant life grow, to make

crops grow and we're having crops like we've never seen before because they're helping

us and they have a book they read out of and this is the book with all the stuff in it.

It's called to serve man and they're here for good and people all around the world are

just loving these space aliens who come down, as a matter of fact, they want to take some

of the people from Earth back to their planet and show them what is over there until one

of the guys realize, wait a second, to serve man, it's a cookbook and they're using, they're

fattening up the people on Earth with all this food that they're being able to grow, they're

fattening them up so they can serve them at their planet and that's something to serve man.

That was a good twilight zone episode. Now we just ruined it for you.

Yes, who says they want to negotiate, maybe they just want to take us over and who says

you'll be able to talk to aliens? They say if we see aliens, we're going to see them maybe

as molecules of atoms, who says they have to have a face with two arms and two legs, like

you know, the movies always show them. And the funny thing when the aliens come down from

the planet and say, we speak English, we don't speak their language, they always speak English,

though, or they communicate with us through, you know, just looking at us with a glare on their

face. A Tik Toker has advice for how to get free food at restaurants going viral. It's not a bad

idea when you think about it. It just sign up to be a secret shopper. Sites will pay you to go

out to dinner and take notes. She says there are a bunch of signs to do it. She uses something called

secret shop.com and they pay her to eat at restaurants and critique them.

Oh, sounds like a good idea to me. Interested in the making of We Are the World. Remember that?

The song and the documentary they made. Well, you can watch that documentary the greatest

night in pop. It's on Netflix right now. There were some facts that might act as an appetizer for

you. They mentioned on the show. Prince was supposed to be there, but it was a no show. People

thought it was because of his rivalry with Michael Jackson. Madonna was not invited. Apparently

some of the organizers felt she wasn't a good enough singer. They went with Cindy Lauper instead.

Sources say it broke Madonna's heart that she wasn't invited.

Eddie Murphy missed the chance to be there. Eddie was at Stevie Wonder studio recording his

single party all the time. Stevie asked him to come, but he declined when he realized what he had

passed up. Eddie Murphy said he felt like an idiot. We are the world. Huge success. It's been four

weeks and number one of the billboard charts when quadruple platinum within a month. We're not

to sell seven million copies and help raised $63 million. I bet you the people that turned

them down or didn't show up. We're sorry. It was after the American Music Awards and everybody

was there. So they just said to everybody, when she's come on over from the American Music Awards,

you're all here already. The studio was right down the block and they decided to do it then and

that's that's how it happened. Now talk about turning lemon, a lemon into lemonade. This bride

in San Jose, California had to call up for waiting at the last minute. She couldn't get a refund

on her $15,000 reception. So she donated the reception to charity called parents helping parents

that support parents of kids with special needs. They threw a party for a hundred people called

it the ball for all. It had a DJ at dancing, a photo booth, and included dinner with a ton of

desserts. I mean, not a bad idea. The question is, I want to know what happened to the wedding.

I mean, you're supposed to get married $15,000 worth. What happened? I'd love to know.

I don't know if this requires investigation or not. A South Carolina education lottery said

they were record 3,351 winning tickets when a pick for drawing resulted in the numbers 44444.

So 3351 people all won. Sounds like a sitcom. Turns out it was legit, but I don't know. Do you think

that requires some investigating? Rumors that Taylor Swift will perform at some capacity at the

Super Bowl are probably not true. It's going to be in Tokyo Friday night. She'll have plenty of

time to get there, but they said she probably won't even get there. But I know there's a whole bunch

of conspiracy theories going around about Taylor Swift right now. I'm sure on the civic media

later today, they'll be talking about them. How about some showbiz news? Catch the return of

slimer in the trailer of Ghostbusters Frozen Empire. It's theaters March 22nd. Kim Kardashian

producing a documentary about Elizabeth Taylor for the BBC. And yesterday afternoon, it was announced

we lost a major Broadway movie star. Cheetah Rivera. Cheetah Rivera passed away. Cheetah Rivera

was in. Bye bye, birdie. I'm Broadway with Dick Van Dyke. She won a Tony award for the rink.

And what else did she do? She won a Tony. Did she win a Tony for Chicago? I'm not sure.

Yeah, of course, she was in West Side Story. Cheetah Rivera, a major talent, major talent.

Yeah, she was in by my birdie. She wasn't in the movie by my birdie, but she was in the Broadway

show with Dick Van Dyke, which was a huge hit. There's an easy hack that's good for a Monday. I know

today's Wednesday, but this is good for Monday. If you're feeling tired and need a boost in the

afternoon, don't reach for that third cup of coffee. Instead, just stick your head in a freezer.

It's a tip from a recent book called the sleep prescription. It's by a neuroscientist at the

University of California, San Francisco. He says, yes, you could just have that extra cup of coffee

in the caffeine. We'll probably wake you up. But if it's late in the day, he can also keep you

up at night. So sticking your head in the freezer offers a more immediate boost of energy and it won't

mess with your bedtime. We used to have a refrigerator here used to be in the in the basement here.

We used to have all we have a full kitchen down there. Now I heard it stems from the days when we

had a cooking show on the air. And that's where it came from. But no, the refrigerator's gone.

It's always the stove. Somebody took them, otherwise they'd stick my head on the freezer.

Here's a dream come true. The university was constant center for dairy research hired

descriptive sensory panelists to taste cheese samples and pizzas for $15 an hour.

That could be up to $135 a week to eat cheese and pizza and provide feedback on stuff like

appearance, texture, romance and flavor. This was, this was in June of last year. I wonder if they,

they filled up the panel. I wouldn't mind doing that, wouldn't you? Yeah, pay me $15 an hour to eat

cheese and pizza. I'd do that. It's going to be partly sunny today with a high-tier 41 who would have

thunked that two weeks ago when it was minus 11 in the morning, huh? That's more than 50 degrees

swing. Clowny tonight, lows 36, clowny with a high-tier 43 tomorrow. Right now it's clowny in 35

degrees at WRJ on a civic media station. Hold down radio refreshed. Nell Meadow talking movies

at 706 this morning. She's the movie mom. We'll talk to her right here at WRJ.

The wind blows hard against this mountain side across the sea into my soul. It reaches into where I cannot hide

excepting my feet upon the road. Part is old, it's once my memories. My body burns a gem like flame.

Somewhere between the soul and some machine. It's where I find myself again.

QEA ladies are down the road that I must travel. QEA ladies are through this time, this is the night.

QEA ladies are where I'm going when you follow. QEA ladies are on a highway in the night.

When I was young, I found a growing old. It wasn't my life for me to be.

But I had followed down my chosen road. I'm only a waste but I could be.

QEA ladies are down the road that I must travel. QEA ladies are through this time, this is the night.

QEA ladies are where I'm going when you follow. QEA ladies are on a highway in the night.

QEA ladies are down the road that I must travel. QEA ladies are through this time, this is the night.

QEA ladies are where I'm going when you follow. QEA ladies are on a highway in the night.

QEA ladies are down the road that I must travel.

We're going to a restaurant and you can overhear other people talking to the restaurant, making weird requests of the wait staff there.

Someone asked restaurant servers today and the weirdest requests they've ever gotten from a customer.

Here's some of the highlights. A woman who ordered bone in wings, but wanted the chef to remove all the bones for her.

Guy who ordered the BLT with no bacon, no tomato, basically just a lettuce sandwich.

A guy who wouldn't let a place bus buses plates until he licked them clean. So in other words,

when they came to remove the plates from the table, you know, way after you're done, they say,

are you finished and you're finished? This guy wanted to lick his plates clean.

They couldn't take the plates away until he did that. That's disgusting.

When you go home, you know, I want to hear a quick story.

When I was a little kid, my dad used to let my brother and I when we had a little bit of soup left in

the bowl and you couldn't, you know, he can't get up at this point. He let us put the bowl to our

mouths and drink the rest out. This is at home. So when we went to a restaurant, I didn't see a

difference in it. I said, can I drink the soup out of the bowl? And he said, no, you can't do that

on the restaurant. I couldn't understand why I can do it at home, but I couldn't do it at the

restaurant. When you go, want to go home early from work? Do you make up a phony excuse? Come on now,

do you? Not this guy. A gas station employee is facing charges in Oklahoma after he got a friend

to rob the place just so he can go home early that day. What the heck was going out of his house?

He had to get home early. Do you ever fail a driver's test before? I did on the first shot when

I was 17 years old. I failed. I forget why. I don't know why I failed. He didn't really give me a

good reason. He just said you didn't pass. Try again. All right. This 63 year old woman in

Arcontino flipped her car during her driver's test. There's video of it while the driving instructor

is with her in the car. He turned it over. I don't think she passed. They didn't say, but

I'm pretty sure she didn't pass that driver's test. He flipped the car. Oh, you might goodness.

There's a couple of fun facts for you. In London, in the 1800s, mail was delivered to your home 12

times a day. I do remember when mail was delivered twice a day when I was a kid. They like a

morning and a late afternoon delivery. I remember that. Amish people are not required to get social

security numbers. I wonder why? Question. Do you still have momentos from your old relationships?

According to this survey, one in four people say they still have keepsakes and momentos from past

relationships. I guess that includes anxieties and ulcers too, right? I don't think that's a good

idea. I think once you move on, you move on. I don't think I have anything. I think my wife

made sure that I don't have anything in my house from a past relationship. No, that's those are

gone. That was their history. According to Expedia's annual travel etiquette survey, only 75% of us

agree. It's unacceptable to go through an Airbnb host's personal stuff up to a third of us would

potentially wear their clothing when you I was never in the Airbnb. When you do an Airbnb,

the owner of the homelies, all their personal stuff in there, I would never do anything like that.

I first of all, I wouldn't go through people's drawers. I remember when I sold homes for a

short time, I used to tell people, when we had an open house, don't leave anything around,

put it away because I can't keep my eye on everybody in the house when they go through an open

house. And I never had a problem, but you know, you never know. Airbnb people leave their stuff

there. Huh. Why don't something new every day? The guys offering $10,000 reward for anybody who

finds his 70 year old mom, a boyfriend. There's a dating app that teamed up to help $10,000 to be a

boyfriend with 70 year old mom. All right. This sounds like a nightmare of flight from Italy to

New Jersey. It became a torture when a ton of ants fell out of a passenger's bag and crawled

around the plane until it landed. What was he doing with a ton of ants in his bag? That sounds

like it needs an investigation. A survey asked people for the strangest thing their boss has asked

them to do. There was not in their job description. The best answers included asking me to fire

someone and then drive them home, asking me to teach another employee how to pass a drug test.

Instructing all employees to start liking the boss's Facebook videos.

Oh, I am so lucky. All the bosses I had in life would never do anything to stupid like that. I

am such a fortunate person. I'd but true. Two pops your core. We all know him, right? Two pops your

core. Two pops your core when he was a kid studies ballet, even played the role of the mouse king

and the nutcracker. See, you never know. You never know about these things. Do you?

Good for two pops your core. Maybe some people will now follow in his footsteps literally, right?

All right. What do you got coming up? We've got Nell Minow, the movie mom coming up at 706 this

morning. We've got some cloudy skies right now. A cloudy skies only one sky out there 35 degrees.

Partly sunny today with a high near 41 cloudy lows 36 tonight cloudy tomorrow with a high

near 43 bucks at Portland. Take on the trailblazers 830 tonight at WRJN. We've got some tickets to

give away this hour to Lauren Dagle on stage at the Wisconsin State Fair coming up Friday night.

August 9th. You can want a pair of tickets coming up this hour at WRJN. Keep it right here. I'm Don

Rosen, a civic media station on down radio. Refreshed.

I think you should buckle your seatbelt, but I feel bad for the people in the back seat. That

always seemed like they're less important to people in the front. You ever watch like four people

getting the car? People in the back just sitting there. People are front all like bucking up like

they're going out of the atmosphere. You know click click click click click click click people in the back

going hey what's going on up there? It don't matter you're in the back. Your belts are squished

down in those seats anyway. You'll never find them. Hey wait a second don't start the car.

They're trying to pull them out. Give me a rope or something.

You're going to hate when you're driving and you pick up a friend and they get in and they don't

buckle their seatbelt up like right away but they will like 10 minutes into the drive. Have to have

some goofy turn. Without saving to you they'll just pull that belt down. You got to prop

my all of a sudden. So what I do as they're looking down I go.

She left me no one to do every highway. Let me slip away on you. Every highway

seemed better days. I'm on and out the blue and I head down to my shoes.

Every highway let me slip away, slip away on you.

Gordon Lightputt it would just lose him in 2023. Yeah I think so.

636 WRGN Radio, partly sunny with high-tier 41 today, cloudy tonight lows 36.

The same thing that I call it, it's just been saddest, but with nowhere I go, no one left

to blame. Every highway I got to see you.

Coming up will give away Lauren Dagle tickets, Lauren Dagle's CCM pop star.

She is coming to the Wisconsin State Fair. I think on Friday August 9th. Yeah at the

main stage we'll give you tickets in just a few minutes or every highway.

Here's another list going around of things that people secretly judge others doing,

like vague posting on social media. That's where you post something like a hospital wristband,

but don't explain it and say something like, well, that was crazy. It ever means is what happened.

It happens all the time. I see people on there and they'll say just something like that.

We'll say, I hope that never happens again. What never happens again, vague posting, people do that

all the time. Then they want you to say, well, what happened? Are you okay? Yeah, I'm okay.

I just, my show wasn't on TV and I went to DVR and it wasn't fair and hope that never happens

again. Not watching your hands in a public restroom, especially at work.

You know, sometimes when I go to a public restroom, I'll see people doing what they do,

some guys and then they just walk right out without washing their hands. I never touch the

door handle in a public restroom. It's like a soccer match in there. Nobody wants to touch anything

with their hands. I always use a paper towel to open the door because people don't wash their hands.

People cry in front of the camera and post it on social media. That I've never seen before.

People who cut in line. Oh, I see that all the time. That bothers me and not cleaning up after

your dog. I was very aware of that when I used to walk my dog on the lake for and how many people

just don't pick up after the dog. Once on the 4th of July, it was very busy and this guy was

walking his dog and his dog poop right on the sidewalk and he didn't pick it up. There's a lot of

people walking in. Someone's going to step in it. So I run after him and say, hey, you got a

clean up after your dog. He said, I don't have anything with me. He said, you wait here. I went

and got him some like a supermarket bag, doggy bag to clean it up and he did.

But you take a dog for a walk and you don't have anything to pick it up with, especially on the

4th of July when the sidewalks are packed with people on the parade route. No, you pick that up.

Sometimes the spinoff is better than the series it was spun off from.

Got a list of examples here. You may or may not agree with the Simpsons. That was a spinoff

of the Tracy Olman show. These to show these little mini cartoons of the Simpsons of the Tracy

Olman show. Boston legal was a spinoff from the practice. I didn't know that. The Colbert

report, a spinoff from the Daily Show, Frazier, a spinoff for cheers. I think people would say

cheers was probably the much better show. All the Frazier was good, but cheers was better. Good

times. That was a spinoff from Maude, which was a spinoff from all in the family.

I can't, I don't think you'd say good times are better than all in the family.

Might have been better than Maude than not all in the family. Happy days.

Now that was a spinoff. A lot of people don't know this. Happy days was a spinoff of love American

style. You see the happy days thing. I've been new to some people. It was a pilot. It was shot,

but never got picked up. It ended up airing as a segment on the ABC, ABC anthology show Love

American Style. George Lucas saw it. He cast Ron Howard in his movie, American Graffiti.

Now the success of American Graffiti caused ABC to go back through their files and say,

yes, we had a show like that. Happy days in the rest of this history.

Huh. That's interesting stuff. I guarantee you of something on this list,

sitting in storage tucked away in a drawer somewhere. Someone pulled 2,000 people

announced about gadgets that they never use, but won't throw away. The top one is a DVD player.

What was the last time you watched one last night? I watched DVDs all the time. I have a DVD

player. I watch all my movies on there. All my TV shows are on DVD digital cameras. We all bought

one and phone cameras took over. That's true. Old TVs. Sorry to get rid of them if they still work.

Well, can you really watch something out of the old TV now? I mean,

all the TV stations are digital. I don't think you can do that anymore. CD players. If you listen to

CDs right now, it's probably in your car. It's not true. I listen to CDs at home all the time.

I listen to CDs here at the right. We use a Gordon Lightfoot on CD a minute ago. Headphones.

I'm wearing them right now. Not ear buds. I'm wearing headphones. Old-fashioned headphones

right now. And printers, most people don't have them. If they do that, it uses them much.

What do you think I'm reading off of now? Something I printed yesterday.

I mean, these things, I just don't use them. I mean, what are you using instead of a printer?

I mean, if you got to read some, you know, take some papers. We did a read. You got to print them

off somewhere and headphones. I mean, people use ear buds. I'll give them that. But on the radio,

you still got to use, you know, headphones, old-fashioned headphones. I mean, that's kind of the

pressing them. What's something people buy but never use? Number one of the list,

expensive home gym equipment. I did buy some home gym equipment once. And I used it until

it didn't work anymore. I did use it though. Most people now think it's okay to ban kids from

your wedding. Ooh, that's dangerous. Although, I don't think that people really bring their kids

to weddings. I mean, as a guest to the wedding, I know sometimes they have kids in the bridal party.

You know, the ring bearer and things like that, the little best man or whatever his title is.

You probably don't want to bring kids to a wedding, you know, as a guest. I don't think people do,

do people do that? A study actually located in the middle of nowhere. It's in Idaho. The study

looked at which parts of America are furthest from any major roads and two of the most isolated

places in America are in Idaho. I was in the middle of the United States once they claim it was.

It was in South Dakota, Bill Fouche, South Dakota. They claim that's the center of the United States.

That's where they claim a study found the best way to cope with your problem is to run away from them.

Researchers found people who distracted themselves when they had problems were happier,

eventually figured out better solutions for those problems than people look in front of the

issues head on. Yeah, this run away from everything. That's what I say.

All right. What else I got for you? Ah, some new things to worry about. We always need things to

worry about. One in three people know someone who's gone to the doctor for a routine checkup and

found something serious. It generate 4.4 pounds of garbage a day and people are getting more and

more inappropriate with their cell phones. What does that mean? Maybe I don't want to know.

A study found the exact moment when you're happiness peaks on vacation 730 p.m. on the third day.

That's when you're fully in vacation mode. You still have plenty of vacation left and you still

have plenty of money left and you haven't completely blown your budget yet. 730 p.m. on the third day.

I'm going to make note of that because I, you know, if I'm on vacation with my wife, I got to say,

all right, we're happy now. It may not show it, but that's what, that's what it says.

All right. Did you know these things are illegal to throw away in most states? Old medication,

old paint, old cell phones and old batteries that aren't the standard AA type. In California,

you can't even throw those away. Old tires too. You can't throw those away. Tireshops will usually

take them off your hands when you get new ones. They might even charge you a small recycling fee.

But, I mean, if you throw an old phone in the garbage, which I don't think people do,

but if you did, how they got to know about it? Old medication. They say it shouldn't flush it.

Or, you know, throw them anywhere where people can get their hands on them. But if you put them

in a garbage bag, you know, inside a little can of soup or something, how they get to know?

A poll looked at lifestyle changes we try to make, but can't seem to follow through on. Most of us

buckle within two months, thanks to no willpower, no motivation and not having enough time.

These are the top changes we just can't stick to exercising more if I agree.

Going to bed earlier. No, I started doing that when I started doing mornings again here.

I'm going to bed early now hitting 10,000 steps a day. Now, this is true. I don't want to admit

this, but it's true. I had this thing I had to do for 10,000 steps a day. And it was a little like,

I was the thing you wore on your wrist or something and calculated the number of steps you'd

take a day. At the end of the day, if I didn't get 10,000 steps, I used to shake it.

I'm telling it 10,000. That's true. I'm not proud of it. Eating less sugar, using your phone less.

I am trying to do that. I am so trying to do that. I have a feeling we're going to have like

phones anonymous classes soon, like alcohol anonymous and rage anonymous and

all those anger management classes. We're going to have phones anonymous. People who just can't

get rid of their cell phones. Cutting back on alcohol, eating more vegetables. You know,

I would love to do that. Eat more vegetables. Reading more. I'm wife and I are reading some books

now on receiving that people wrote. And it's fun. She actually does the reading. I sit there and

listen, she's a great reader. Fantastic reader. Being better about recycling. Well, we recycle

everything we could. And making sure you get enough me time. Oh, I'm always sure of that.

I'm always getting me time. I never cut back on that. From the, how dumb are they file?

A couple in Michigan caught using a stolen credit card at a tractor supply store after the woman

used her rewards card for the transaction. I expose a larger scheme with actually broken to more

than a dozen storage units and stole stuff. Are you nasty to restaurant servers? The caffeine

England has a new sliding price scale based on how polite you are. If you say hello and please,

when you order, you pay around two dollars for tea. If you say, please, but not hello across a

little more. And if you just walk up and say tea, you pay around five dollars, 50 cents for the same

drink. It pays to be nice. I guess. Doctors in Italy just did a nine hour procedure to remove a

guy's brain tumor. Wow. They had to play the saxophone during the surgery. They'll make sure they

snipped the right spots. They say it was a success. That's interesting. You know, tell me that

God was awake during the brain surgery, but they had him play. I would assume he knew how to play

the saxophone before they did anything. I mean, they can't just you play the sad. I never played

the saxophone before. Well, that's interesting. Okay. Let's give away a pair of tickets right now.

couple of hit songs. She had the James Bond theme for your eyes only. She had morning train.

And then she kind of vanished from the scene. Not to look up whatever happened to Shana Eastern.

A great artist and a couple of good hit songs. And that was it.

my ex mother-in-law, she was a jeopardy champion. She was on the original jeopardy with art

Fleming before it was Alex Trebek. And she was a champion on the jeopardy, very smart lady.

I never saw it. I was just rumor in the family. It was legend, but no, she was really on there.

Good for her.

All right, odd but true, the J in J walking, you know what that stands for? Back of the 1920s,

was a slang for idiot, idiot walking. So J walking actually means idiot walking, odd but true.

If you only met a person once, how likely are you to remember the name the next time you bump

into them? A new poll found most of us struggle with it. 58% of us say there's a good chance we

would not remember that name. Only 7% always remember names. Most of us have an easier time with

faces, although only around one and four people said there is a good chance. They wouldn't even

recognize the person. 28% said they never forget a face. I am so embarrassed when I can't

remember a name. And it generally happens because I've got so many things going through my head at

that moment. I, you know, if I stop by and stop and relax for a second, I'll remember the name.

What was the last time you reached out to an old friend just because a study at the

University of Pittsburgh found we underestimate how many people appreciate when we do it.

A longer it's been a better. I reached out to an old friend of mine who I grew up with.

Johnny Carras about a year or so ago. And we had such a great talk. I haven't talked to him

at about 40 years. We grew up together, but you know, you separate, go your own ways and that's,

you know, kind of way things happen every once in a while. But yeah, it was kind of

good to talk to Johnny again. Well, let's see here, um, time for this. Let's see what time it is

here. Yeah, I got time for the story. If you get ready for dates by covering yourself in

Cologne, here's a big warning. A survey found 68% of women have dumped a guy because they did not

like his Cologne or aftershave. 52% have done it after the first date. So make sure you smell good.

I bet true. You turn one billion seconds old four months before you 30 second birthday. So

when you're 31 years old, 251 days, 13 hours, 34 minutes, and 55 seconds old, that's one billion

with a B seconds. Kind of interesting. Have a one billion year old birthday. What do you think of that?

Yeah, I'm coming up at 706 this morning. We've got Nell Mendo, the movie mom. We're talking movies.

She's seen them all. She critiques them. And we're going to go over the Oscar list. The

Academy Award nominations because I haven't heard a lot of these movies before. And we're going to

talk about that. And we're going to talk about her dad too, Newton Mendo, who was appointed by

John F. Kennedy, president and candidate to be the commissioner of the Federal Communications

Commission, Newton Mendo. So we'll talk to Nell Mendo at the top of the hour. I've spoken

to her before. Very, very nice lady to talk to. A lot of fun we're going to have here. That's

coming up in a few minutes. It's 6.58 and WRGN, a civic media station, hometown radio. We're

fresh on your Wednesday morning.
