The Don Rosen Show · Fri Dec 29, 2023

Here's what I've learned about life now that I'm over 50 I'll make the time to be your

friend if you're a doctor.

Stock up on doctor friends I'm telling you you get to a certain age every day something

happens the other day I woke up with a sprained ankle what happened no but what happened

I went to bed I was fine I was fine when I got in bed you get older as you get older

you need different friends like when you're a teenager the one friend you need is the

first kid who has a car you got a buddy up to that kid right yeah and then you hit your

20s new kid now usually a sketchy kid he can get you don't know how he gets stuff you

don't ask well you know as all of a sudden he can get your tickets to ario speed wagon

that you don't know what I'm talking about this day I'm sorry I met Coachella Coachella

tickets I'm sorry and then 30s 30s and 40s new friend lawyer you have to lawyer up now

yes and then 50s to 70s man doctors doctors and then here's a weird thing in your 80s back

to the kid with the car yeah full circle full circle

I do not live it in wonder thinking you still looking for ways to uncover the truth

you're so young is all they can say they don't know if I could change the way I'm the

one I'd be your good too many walls have been built in between us too many dreams have been

shattered around us it might seem to give up you'll never win deep in my heart I know the

strength is within watching the others chances to find they'll never discover it's feeling

that deep inside I'm falling upon all the love

good morning I'm John Rosen thank you for joining me here at WRJ and 609 on a Friday

ready for New Year's Eve by the way we will be here on New Year's Day we're doing a

special rebroadcast of the year and review love that he's locked wood from

nursing county I in here reviewing the year two hours it'll be on New Year's morning six

to eight a.m. for today clonnie with a hundred forty one tonight clear lows around twenty

seven tomorrow sunny with a hundred forty now it says snow likely on Sunday with a

hundred thirty six they said less than a trace of snow you know with the temperature

that high that was you can see any of it at all but you know that's what they say

officially and for New Year's Day sunny with a high near 34 right now it's today say 38

degrees right now I didn't feel that warm it's a little double check that yeah 38 Windy

and 38 degrees right now at six ten and WRJ and radio and coming up tonight we've got

sports the box of Cleveland they'll take on the Cavaliers 8 p.m. on WRJ and radio

kind of get the 706 this morning bread Hoffman is here we're going to review some of the

year in movies and we're going to take a look at twenty twenty four in movies as well we've

got the golden globe nominations the first big test for the Academy Awards which I don't

really think they are but that's what they claim they are so we'll be doing that as well

that's at seven oh six this morning right now though oh and I got the brand new edition

of the Farmers Omanac yesterday of 2024 edition the old Farmers Omanac so we'll get to know

what the years going to be like I go with the Farmers Omanac whatever they say they say all right

if you've never heard this story before it's crazy a couple in Allentown Pennsylvania named Tony

and Francis Toto they're celebrating 57 years of marriage this year even though France is hard

to hit man to kill Tony back in 1983 they actually tried multiple times to kill him using a car bomb

a baseball bat sleeping pills and a gun he survived a shot to the chest and one to the head

but the first thing he did after 12 years in the hospital 12 days in the hospital was to bail his

wife out of jail she spent four years behind bars then they talked on the phone communicating well

after lots of counseling they have a great marriage now back in 1990 their story is made into a movie

called I love you to death during Kevin Klein and Tracy Oman have you ever heard that story before

I never heard of the movie but she tried to kill him multiple car bombs baseball bats

finally shot him twice you heard it hit man did it and now they're in love again

I would sleep with one eye open and you know I would sleep in a different room with the door locked

and maybe a bulletproof door or something could you imagine that those get together again

and she only spent four years in prison tried to do all that doesn't sound like a lot of time does

it anyway that's a crazy story I have one more crazy story coming up later on for you

least people I don't know how they operate if somebody tried to kill me I try to keep a distance

from them like for the rest of my life on this planet a study found having at least one solid

conversation with someone each day makes us happier they identify seven different types of

communication that qualify joking around catching up having a deep and meaningful talk showing care

valuing the other person's opinion that's not going to happen offerings sincere compliments and

even just listening to the other person that rarely happens too because we all know that when

someone's talking you're thinking what you're going to say next right come on everybody does that

except me this is interesting and worth examining further a study claims couples take longer to

text each other back excuse me I should take couples claim couples take oh man can I read

this morning a study claims couples take longer to text each other back the longer they've been

together and the early days updating the response time was 16 minutes and now it's much longer than

that it's into the like 24 or 25 minutes hmm I try to text my wife back immediately which she

sends me something well wait a second here let me think about that maybe I don't maybe it was

quicker back then yeah I think it was quicker I think they're right I never gave it thought

I good news for single people everybody's always trying to get you guys married oh I've got a

girl for you I've got a guy for you everyone always wants to get their single people married

but here's good news for single people pretty soon you'll have a new way to get someone in the

middle of a bad date now tell them you're sorry but an app on your phone says the spark just isn't

there basically it pairs with wearable technology like your apple watch it monitors things like heart

rate breathing and how much you're sweating it's like a lie detector test the app isn't they're

ready for wide release yet because not accurate enough they tested it on a bunch of people it was

about 75% accurate in analyzing how well people connected so pretty good but not good enough

to fully trusted yet could you imagine going at a date looking at your apple watching

mmm they working mmm gotta go they actually have watches anyway they're working on that and that's

this year that's like they're currently doing it now all right now this is a tough question to ask

would you like to know when and how you will die I think there's only one percent of people

would want the ability to find that out and see the rest of their future as well the majority

people don't want any spoilers about the future at all remember Doc Brown and Marty McFly Doc

Brown said to Marty don't mess with the future was at the time continuum or something like that

don't mess with it remember we had to go back to when his parents were dating

told him not to change a single thing and he did and his father wasn't the dweeb anymore he was

like a valued author but he went back to the present day and they were like the smart

dressed couple around because he screwed around with the the future and that's what happens

but you want to find out I don't think I want to find out

no no no no way I don't want to find out about the future yeah could you imagine if you if

there was an episode of the Simpsons where Homer I guess he's in a coma or he's near death in

the hospital and he he's in heaven they didn't bring him back to life yet so he's in heaven with

God and he's got to go back because God says we're not ready for you yet Homer he says but I like

it here I can't wait to get back and God says you can't wait six months

and by the way you know the Simpsons characters only have four fingers on each hand

Mickey Mouse only has four fingers on each hand but all the Simpsons characters only have four

fingers on each hand it just looks better that way when they draw them they said

except one character in the history of the TV show the Simpsons at five fingers

and the writer said they made God with five fingers because he's perfect that's what they

added that fifth finger now you know a study found that when people between the ages of 18 and 26

had their phones taken away they started showing symptoms of PTSD elevated heart rates higher stress

levels fidgeting scratching all over their bodies all of which went away as soon as they got

their phones back or as long as they got their hands on any phone didn't have to be their phone

I think that's true I started leaving my phone in my bedroom at night because I know I play

with it I'm constantly watching TV picking up the phone and playing with it I don't want to do that

anymore it's it's it really is you know ridiculous that we've got to keep picking up our phones I do

it out of habit I know that because I need to do it I just do it because it's like capping on

a you know when you tap on the furniture just like that and I pick up the I pick up the phone

but I stopped doing it because I'll leave the phone in the bedroom now and if it rings

I'm busy remember the old days when you went shopping at the store you went out for a drive

and your phone was on the wall in the kitchen there was no answering machines back then no caller

ID nothing the phone rang and if you weren't there you weren't there they called back at a later date

hmm that's what we have to deal with now we better start doing that all right we're in winter

you would never know it by the temperatures 41 today 40 tomorrow yeah doesn't seem like winter

but it is and if you're afraid of driving in snow and ice well listen to this

if I bang my head one more time on this microphone 73% of Americans say they're scared to drive

in snow and ice one of the seven have no confidence in their winning driving skills here are the top

things we do we slow down when the roads are snowing we turn music on to focus actually so we turn

down our music to focus and one of four people just start praying I do that with the car I pray

for safe driving for me and the other lunatics on the road I just can't believe people drive so fast

when it snows out they try to pass you and up the road you'll see their car in a dick somewhere

luckily we don't have any of that snow yet kind of nice

at 619 at WRJN radio take quick break back with more right here at WRJN

you can say you love me and I'll believe that's true

you

trusting you is easy

because I believe in you

there is nothing I would miss as long as we're in love like this

all I have is all I need and it all comes down to you and me how far away

this world becomes in the harbor of each other at 621 at WRJN radio

cloudy with high-tier 41 today clear tonight lows 27 sunny tomorrow beautiful day with

high-tier 40 our last day of the year snow likely the high-tier 36 just a tiny tiny bit

near his day sunny with a high-tier 34 windy and 38 degrees right now coming up this morning

we're going to have Brett Hoffman for an extended segment Brett's or Marcus theaters talking

about the year in review at 706 when it comes to movies and what's coming up in 2024

we're the big screen at your theaters and we'll talk to Mike Clemens later on that hour as well

don't forget tonight the bucks take on Cleveland the Cavaliers 8 p.m. on WRJN let's say 8 p.m. or 6 p.m.

6 p.m. I said 8 p.m. it's 6 p.m. I mean I need new glasses 6 p.m. tonight and don't forget Sunday the

Packers take on the Vikings here at 5 p.m. on WRJN the Badgers take on LSU 9 a.m. on Monday

New Year's Day the Pacers will take on the bucks in Milwaukee if I serve Thorim at 6.30 p.m.

and it's all the sports coming up here WRJN Radio. All right remember I told you earlier I had

another crazy story for you remember the woman who tried to kill her husband several times and

failed at it then they got back together again now they were happy loving couple I told you

there was only a weird story ahead and this is it this is from our vault but I found the story

it's really wild a woman gave birth and when she got home from the hospital her boyfriend ran off

with her mom now the boyfriend and her mom are living together at a new place 30 miles away

actually coming from a family like that I mean think about all the troubles you have with your

family nothing like that this woman has a baby in the hospital and she finds out her mother ran

away with the guy who made the baby with her wow that's up story oh I'm just so happy with

the family I have all the foibles and everything we love them all right you've been someone of

with someone for a while pretty much everything they do starts to annoy you right yeah

going to do a survey here the top then top things men do that annoy women the most

never admitting they're wrong hugging the remote snoring not listening never doing housework

and staring at other women now there's no story here on how women annoy men the most probably

because men were afraid to bring up the the instances but yeah staring at other women that's just

that's mean don't do that a study found it costs $381,000 to have a happy marriage

now you say how much 381,000 huh well that includes spending about $7,750,000 a year for 45 years

on date nights gives vacation to and laws your way 300 it's not a bad price when you think about it

have a happy marriage no that's that's pretty good speaking about relationships the head of

relationship science at the dating app hinge shared some tips to up your chances on that dating app

only 11% of people say they fell in love at first sight so don't worry if there's not a spark

take another look at your deal breakers and make sure they're not just preferences and in general

trying to give everyone a second chance who do you kiss most at home your spouse or your dog

then carefully 53% of dog owners say they kiss their dog more than the significant other

going into a survey 72% will put themselves in danger to save their dog but there's no mention

of how many people would put themselves in danger to save their spouse I would

pretty sure I would yeah I would and I think it's my dog probably more

always everything everything everything I don't know I just did a guy recently posted a trip advisor

a review for a hotel in Turks and Kicos he said it was amazing but he only gave him a one-star

review why because their masseuse seduced his wife and spent that night weather I can't believe

he gave her one star I wouldn't go that far oh wow if you could bring back any fad from any

decade what would it be block parties hanging around with your neighbors used to be amazing

stuff they still have block parties I know they have one by me they have it every year

there's a local bar that closes down the block and stuff but it's not your neighbor is doing it

rollerblades tether ball I used to play tether ball when I was a kid it was one farm long island

in nasa county and he was a good friend of my father Guido foglia was his name I recently

spoke to his son and back in the 1964 I remember because we went in this house to watch the Beatles

on the Ed Sullivan show that he's 64 he had a tether ball and it was great just to punch that thing

around and yeah that was good I enjoyed tether ball slap bracelets remember those saying not as a

punchline somebody says hey are you happy yeah I'm happy not you know do that anymore good the 90s

grunge look fanny pack you want to bring those things back again I know they're by the ultimate

inconvenience but still fanny packs and and mullets I don't know if we want to bring those back

there's a lot of things we shouldn't bring back fanny packs and mullets I'll probably do with them

uh here's one of those tricks that's supposed to make you happier they say each night write down

three things then went well that day then write one sentence each explaining why it went well

takes 10 minutes studies have shown that if you do it every day it'll be a happier person in six months

I'm like going to wait six months to be happy there's a product oh I don't know if this is still around

this was I took this out of my files is from twenty twenty twenty one it was a product called

a robo revenge that helps you trap telemarketers scammers and robo callers and it will instantly

sue them for up to three thousand dollars per call under the telephone consumer protection act

you know there is that act around where telemarketers can't just call you at random I don't think

so you can't sue them and I guess this product with let's get to be the one to do it huh

a research scientist says we love true crime because it keeps us on our toes you feel a little

more prepared they said and you know what you should or you shouldn't do you know I watch so much

date line in twenty twenty and all these crime shows and makes you want to sleep with one eye open

at night or baseball bat by your bed just in case I mean really it's kind of creepy that ordinary

people are trapped in these stories of crime and ordinary people like you and me

kind of scary cloudy today highs near forty one degree is a clear night tonight lows twenty seven

sunny with a high near forty tomorrow snow likely sunday just a teeny teeny bit and it probably

won't even stick to the sidewalks highs near thirty six new year's day beautiful sunny with a

high year thirty four we'll check news coming up shortly plus we've got bread hop and for

Marcus theaters at seven oh six talking movies we'll find out what was big this past year what's

coming out in twenty twenty four also take a look at the golden globe nominations it's all

straight ahead at w r j n home town radio refreshed

you

you

I got girl

I'm gonna make a mind if it takes all my

can you can you can you can you can you can you do it

Good evening sweet darling

May I ask your name

You seem to be lonely

Well don't worry I'm feeling the same

Oh it's all good a situation

Oh it's all good a situation

I spend that combination

You're something that

I just can't miss

I got girl

I

I'm gonna make a mind if it takes all my can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can

I like you

Groovy situation Gene Chandler at 635 at WRJ and Radio Wendy and 38 degrees right now

All right the Packers take all the Vikings 5 p.m. On Sunday

We have a contractual agreement with the Packer somebody asked why how can we cover the Packers all the time and do all that's up

We have a contract with the Packers to cover all their games

Simple we sign a contract we cover all their games and that's the way it is when the Packers play

We have it on WRJ and Radio

Simple is that you get a contract

Yeah follow through on it. Yeah, and

The other thing is we were supposed to have a New Year's Eve special

with Lou Regani

Now obviously because of the Packers we can't have that

But if you want to hear Lou Regani's New Year's Eve special it'll be on 540 a.m.

W.A. UK you can hear that on 540 a.m. So Lou Regani's New Year's Eve special will still be on the air

But it won't be here it'll be on the civic media radio network and you can hear that on 540 a.m.

At a walk-a-show

Okay, so we got you covered

So this letter I found now I don't know who wrote it. It was it's on our prep service. So I don't know who wrote it

Says I recently finished working a fun seasonal job and have come to realize I'm attracted to my boss

We're both in our 30s. I'd like to get to know him better. I don't know how to go about it

If he were anyone else I'd invite him for a beer or a coffee and see what happens

But since I worked for him

I am not sure if that would make him uncomfortable

I'd like to continue working this job next year too

And he really liked the work I did there. So I'm a bit concerned about jeopardizing our professional relationship

On the other hand he seems like a really cool person

I'd like to get to know him and see what happens is there a way I can go about getting to know him

Without making things weird between us

No

probably not

No, I don't think so

You know there's so many people out there. Why would you want to

Date your boss get him in trouble too by the way if you decide to go back to work there again

There's so many things that can go wrong with that

60% of millennial parents say that once one family member sniffles the entire household will fall ill within 48 hours

A survey of 2,000 millennial parents found that while parents prefer soup as a comfort meal

Their kids prefer mac and cheese toast and pudding. Oh, that sounds like a bad combination to have when you don't feel well

To prepare for sick days 70% purchase over the counter medications 50% percent monitor the rest of the household for symptoms

When the whole household is sick 71% of respondents say their family comes together to watch TV

It's never a perfect time to be sick

But the survey revealed that small things like having a clean house already to make comfort meals can make things much easier

I will tell you that in our family we have a box in the closet in the bathroom

It's called the cold box and in there is about 20 different things

You need

When you get a cold there's musin x in there. There's

What's that

Think you take when you feel a cold coming out for the immune system. There's that in there

There's all types of cold things to make you feel better. We call it the cold box

So when you soon as you get a cold you'll pull the box out of the cabinet and you're ready to go

So far we put together about a year or so ago. We never had to do it yet until the other day by white got the sniffles

And she's got a bit of a cold

I managed to stay away from it. I don't know why but I managed to get away

So I'm immune immune systems a little better

So I managed not to get the cold, but I feel a little bad when she gets it because

She doesn't complain like I complain if when I'm sick the whole world has to know about it

I don't feel well

And she's six. He's very quiet about it

Not me

The world's got to know that I'm sick. It was one of the things I was going to talk about there

Yeah, when I was a kid

The measles the mumps all those type of things when

I remember where my brother had the measles my mother used to put me in the same bedroom as him so we both get him together and get it over with

Same thing with the mumps

And the chicken pox didn't work with the chicken pox because I got that when I was in my 30s

I got him as 35 years old my daughter gave it to me

But it worked with the measles and the mumps we both got those together

It sounds kind of cruel when I think about it

So my brothers has the measles doesn't feel Donald quick get in there with your brother and stay in that room and breathe the air and

stare at him

But that's what parents did after they still do that

They still put kids together when they get sick

I don't know

Sounds kind of cruel, but my mother did it

And this way she got him over with in one shot. We're both sick together and

Get a little spots all over our face got through the puffy jowls from the mumps

Oh, I don't know if that was good or not

The place where people disappear. Oh, this is fascinating. I didn't know this the place where people disappear

The most in America is the Alaska triangle

It's a large area of wilderness and since 1988

More than 16,000 people have disappeared in the Alaska triangle. I guess it's like they permuted triangle, but a little colder

That's weird, isn't it?

16,000 people how come we're just hearing about this now

You think we'd have heard about it a long time ago

Speaking about cold everybody was always told that Walt Disney was frozen

Cryogenically frozen and someday when they figure out what's wrong with them

They'll bring it back to life. That's what we all told we're all told

Well, it's not true. It was actually cremated and buried in a cemetery in Glendale, California

How do these rumors get started? Who started the rumor that Walt Disney was a cryogenically frozen

I'm back on that Alaska triangle story

I mean next break. I'm gonna Google that

16,000 people have disappeared and

2020 a date line haven't done anything on that yet

I'm gonna find out more about that. I was in Alaska too. Obviously, I wasn't in that area

All right, but the clutches of social media are strong

Not everyone is willing to step away in a poll 36% of people said they've taken of extended break from social media

Because it's having a negative effect on the 55% said they have not 10% are insured

I would love to just shut it down

Just shut it down my daughter did that once for a short period of time. Just shut it off got away from it for a while

You could put you don't have to even on Facebook. You don't have to shut it down

You can just put a temporary hold on it so you'll look at it anymore

But I'm kind of addicted to it

Hmm

All right, I don't know if you're trying to do this in the new year or not

But if you have dating problems a survey found 49% of single people worldwide have tried online dating

The most popular way to find dates this year in 2023

In order was through dating option websites through social media and through friends and family

I bet my wife in the church. That's where I met her

No, no, no, not on a dating site. No, no, no, Facebook nothing like that

A popular TikTok a TikTok couple have been catching heat for a video where they're basically add lifts to their sun shoes

So he's told enough to go on more rides in Disney World

Some people think they're the best parents ever others claim is basically childhood danger

They give those height restrictions for safety reasons

So you're kind of tricking the system into thinking your kids taller to get them on those rides and

I don't know. Maybe you shouldn't do that

Whatever reasons sell it recently ask the internet. What are the hardest pills to swallow in life?

Here's what they came up with

Some things sometimes things just change that's it. Nobody's fault. They change

Nobody's obligated to be in your life some relationships of friendships are meant to be temporary

Appreciate the memories, but let go and move on that's so true

We try to hold on all the time

You know, I told this story. I was on the air with

Peach Waga on his Schwabba rather on his late night show here in WRJN

And I was he might be a guest and he was

Interested in my connection to Jerry Seinfeld

And I said well the last time I said Jerry was when we were 13 years old

We were little kids at five and six years old playing together

But at 13 we moved on to different people and that was it now. There was one kid

Who lived right next door to Jerry? I won't say his name

But he lived right next door and at my high school reunion in 1992

He came up to me and he said could you believe Jerry will have nothing to do with us

I said oh, I don't I don't know what he'd do with him

He said I tried so many times to contact him

And he'll have nothing to do with me to won't take my calls won't return anything

And now that he's a big shot and keep in mind Seinfeld was just

Taken off at this time now he's a big shot. It was nothing to do with us

While there was an episode on Seinfeld called male unbunding

And it was about a kid

Now an adult that Jerry grew up with

Who wouldn't leave alone he just wanted to hook up with him now

And Jerry didn't know how to get rid of him

This was that story

And the guy's name on the episode was really close to his next door neighbor's name

The initials were the same as next door neighbor's name was Joe

This guy's name was Joel and the last name began with the same letter

So

I gotta believe that episode was based on that but some relationships are meant to be temporary

You know

It's just the way it is

13 years old if I ever bump into him again fine talking about good old times, but now that was it 13 from

From five years old to 13 years old that was it

Bad people win

Frequently

Just the way it happens

Some people in leadership positions are not good leaders some who are not in leadership are good leaders

These are really good people will take advantage of your hard work

Some people get to where they are because of nepotism, which is

I'm not gonna make it look it up nepotism. Of course if you know somebody

Not everything will happen according to your plan. Oh, that's for sure

Just because something is not your fault. Doesn't mean it's not your responsibility

Some people just want to watch the world burn. I agree with that

Some people you level die sometimes too soon

And the only thing that will come close to healing is time

That's true

That is true

Doesn't matter how fit you are yet old your body starts to break down at sucks

It's hard

How true is that

That is that things are breaking down left and right

You know I vow to do and I started in November

This will be the year of the doctors with me every little thing wrong with my body. I'm getting fixed

I mean that not

We're not talking cosmetically fixed that you can't fix

That with me anyway what I'm going

What I plan to do is anything that's all wrong with me

I'm gonna get fixed this year and I started doing that this month

I said in November with a complete physical

I got

Flying colors with that physical. They didn't see anything wrong

But then I went to someone else. They saw a little something wrong here in there

And I'm going to a third doctor different specially doctors and I'm gonna give that all fixed up

It doesn't matter how old of fit you are

You do get old your body starts to break down and it sucks. That's so true. These are very good

These are really good and the one that gets me the most was number nine the people go level die

Sometimes too soon

The only thing coming close to healing is time

You know when your parents die, you know my parents went one mother was 92. All right, you know

I do miss her and but she was 92 years old and it was her time, but my nephew was 18 years old

And my sister-in-law

My brother's first wife was you know 20s wasn't there time

It was too soon

But time does heal you don't forget but it heals the crying after a while slows it down a little bit

At 648 and WRJ and radio

Go it up in a few minutes. I promise you happier stuff

Yeah

Coming up today. We've got cloudy weather with a high-tier 40 was drizzling when I came in this morning clear tonight

Lose 27 sunny with a high-tier 40 tomorrow snow likely really nothing accumulating with a high-tier 36 Sunday

At the brand new day 2024 we're kicking it off with sunshine and a high-tier 34 degrees

And now 38 and windy 649. I'm Don Rosen WRJ and hometown radio refreshed a civic media station
