The Don Rosen Show (Hour 2)

The Don Rosen Show · Wed Dec 27, 2023

I like music, man.

That's why I like to go to the airport early, you know?

I always play great music.

I always have unbelievable sound systems.

You get there early.

You take advantage of that.

You just jammed with the best music known to man.

Occasionally there's an announcement, but other than that, you're just getting into the

music, you know.

All my, with the gentleman who left a briefcase at the Security Area of Concourse C,

please return to claim your briefcase.

And it seems like all unattended vehicles will be towed away at the owner's expense.

Oh, I believe there's been a gate change for Flight 207.

It'll now be departing at a gate 19.

Yesterday, I love that song.

Takes my mind off traveling.

You remind me of what is the bull from.

What's a good friend of mine?

I never understood a single word he said, but I float through my drink to the grind.

It always has some matter, one by, one.

I said joy to the world.

All the boys and girls.

Joy to the pieces and the people to see.

Joy to you and me.

If I were the king of the world, tell you what I'd do.

With a card above the wall, makes me love you.

You remind me of what is the bull from.

Joy to the pieces and the people to see.

Joy to you and me.

You know why you're the latest.

Love to have my fun.

On the high flyers in a rainbow ride up in a strange tree.

The sun of a gun.

The sun of a gun.

Three dog night what a group.

Put the 60s and 70s by storm.

What a.

Now this song was written by Hoi Axton.

He had the original recording of it, but it wasn't a hit by him until three dog night did it.

You know where the term three dog night comes from?

Alright, let me fill you in here.

You're going to wake up a little smarter this morning than you were yesterday morning.

This comes from the aborigines in Australia.

When it was cold at night, they used to use a dog to sleep next to them to keep them warm.

The body, the body heat of the dog.

And if it was really cold, they slept with two dogs around them.

And if it was super cold, it was a three dog night.

That's where the name comes from.

Believe it or not, it's your call.

The sun is coming up.

It's beautiful.

I just stuck my nose out.

And right over Lake Michigan now, the sun is coming up.

It is gorgeous.

A high near 42 today right now.

It's a clear sky.

Well, there's some clouds out there.

Part of cloudy 29 degrees.

And there's frost on your car this morning.

It's also frost on your steps going down.

So be careful when you're walking out this morning.

Okay.

I'm Don Rosen.

I want to thank you for joining us here at WRJ.

And no guest today.

No guest.

Just me and you.

And if you have anything to say, our phone lines are open at 262 634 WRJ and 262 634 9756.

They have the numbers on the phone.

I think they have numbers.

If I take a letter, rather, if I say WRJ and you can find it on your phone right now,

they can do that.

Or 634 975 6262.

There you go.

Anything you want to talk about we can.

Don't forget tonight.

The Bucks will be in Brooklyn, New York to take on the nets at the Barclays Center's

6 p.m.

Friday.

The Bucks will be in Cleveland to take on the camp of the years at 6 p.m.

The Packers against the Vikings in Minnesota 5 p.m. on Sunday.

And on New Year's Day, we've got the Badgers against LSU at 9 p.m. and the Pacers against the

Bucks at 630 p.m.

All the sports you want to hear right here at WRJ and radio.

And coming up next year, we've got high school football with Dick Ricefah.

That should be good.

All right.

Got a survey of this.

People have to keep their dogs entertained when they're home alone.

They really need to entertain our dogs.

Don't they kind of do it themselves?

Dogs like to sleep 16 hours a day.

That's what dogs like.

The 16 hours a day.

And I don't think they need to be entertained.

If you give them a couple of toys to play with, I have a dog zone my life.

And we had a beagle.

Chester was our last dog we had for 13 years.

I don't think he ever played with a toy.

We had a backyard with who were frisbee around and he was a puppy he liked it.

But he never played with toys.

We used to give him toys.

He never liked them.

Some dogs carried toys around with him whether they go.

He was not one of them.

How do they entertain himself?

He slept.

That's what he did.

He slept and that was it.

He didn't do anything much else.

That's what he did.

We took walks every day.

We took walks by the lakefront.

Every day we could.

And when he couldn't walk anymore, the vet told us.

They said his walking days are over.

So I used to take him down to the lakefront.

We sat on a bench.

And we just watched the lake there.

He couldn't walk around.

And we just let him mosey around the bench.

And after a while, he got old.

He couldn't do that anymore.

So I used to drive him down there, roll down the window of the car, park on the lakefront.

He sat on the back seat of the car and just looked out the window.

I got pictures of him doing that.

And that got too much form too at the end.

And he knew it was time.

And I knew it was time.

My wife knew it was time.

And we had to say goodbye to Chester.

That was December 19th, one year ago.

Anyway, here are the most popular ways people like to entertain their dogs.

When they're gone, turn on a dog-focused TV show.

You really think the dog knows that putting random toys all over the place.

We're turning on the radio.

We did that.

We used to play the radio for the dog.

We used to play classical music or soft music.

And who goes, what do you like?

Maybe you like Metallica.

I never asked him.

But we used to put music on in the background for him.

I don't think, I don't know.

I don't think dogs care.

My daughter's got a dog.

And she tries to entertain this dog day and night.

And I don't think she can, I don't think dogs entertain.

I could be wrong.

I don't know too much about dog psychology.

I only own dogs all my life.

And I know that they didn't like to watch television.

They like to stare at me when I ate.

I get most of the pictures I have with my dog or him staring at me while I'm eating.

Or if he wants something.

But all right, some people who have dated on Zoom are finding they have no chemistry

when they finally meet up in person.

A therapist says, it's pretty common because video gives us just one view over person.

So we start developing a fantasy of the person.

And the person always doesn't measure up to the fantasy when you meet them in person.

Now, I've never been on a dating site before.

But I've heard stories about people writing, you know, descriptions of themselves.

And maybe I should write your description for you.

And we'll see who you get matched up with.

Yeah, I did a Zoom the other day.

We did a Zoom for Christmas on Christmas Eve with my brother-in-law, both brothers-in-law.

And the problem with Zoom is there was a lot of background noise of people in the rooms.

And everybody talks up on one another.

Even before we did that, we were at a party with Zoom.

And everybody's talking up on another.

You can't get a word in.

So it's kind of tough.

A couple from Texas who've been married for 41 years, are going viral for their daily tradition

and get this tradition.

The wife takes a bite out of the sandwich she makes for her husband to take to work.

So it's like she's eating a lunch with him.

I don't know.

That tradition wouldn't fly in my house.

I want to be taking a bite out of my sandwich.

I made a Massachusetts, gave his teenage son $10 before he passed away.

So he can buy him his first beer.

Well, the man passed away several years ago.

And the son just turned 21 and used that money to buy his first beer.

Ten bucks, huh?

Spensive beer.

You know what cameo is cameo is a way for celebrities to wish you a happy birthday.

You pay them and they send you a birthday greeting.

Cameo is the company that does that with a lot of celebrities.

Remember the soup Nazi from Seinfeld?

He makes over six figures a year on his service.

Remember Kevin from the TV show The Office?

He's on track to make a million dollars this year on my cameo.

My son bought me some happy birthday greetings from celebrities.

Now this is not when they sent me an email.

I talked to them on the phone.

One of them was a Mary Ann from Gilligan's Island.

I talked to her for a while.

She was very sweet, very nice.

I talked to the professor from Gilligan's Island.

He was having problems at the time he was going.

He said happy.

Happy birthday.

Happy birthday.

So it didn't go well with him, but it did talk to him.

The best conversation I had was with the actress who played sissy on family affair.

Remember that she was the oldest girl in family affair if you get what her real name was.

Kathy, it's coming to me in a second.

I can't believe her.

Kathy's on.

She was nice.

We talked for a while on the phone.

We had a very nice conversation.

And there was people he paid for that never called me.

So yeah, it was fun talking to them.

And it's kind of surprising when you pick up the phone.

One day I'm sitting in my living room with my wife and son.

And watching TV and I get a call and it says, is this done?

I see you.

It's done.

He's like, got a osman.

He said, yeah, he was a wanted to carry a new radio show.

And he was told to call me because I was the program director at the RFM station here.

And I talked to him for a while.

He was very nice.

He talked about he was a champion on the answer with the stars.

We talked about that.

Very nice guy.

We didn't carry his radio show in the last log anyway.

But it was nice talking to Donnie osman called you.

So my son took a picture.

He was talking to Donnie osman.

I said, what's that going to prove?

You're going to go photograph me on the phone.

All right.

When you were a kid, what did you think the worst part of being an adult would be?

There's some of the best answers.

No summer, winter or spring breaks.

Giving more presents that you get at Christmas and having to watch the news on TV every night.

Here's the worst part, I think, having to pay bills.

When I was a kid, my parents never mentioned money to my brother and I.

We never knew if they were had enough money or went on vacation.

We had no idea what kind of money the situation was.

They didn't tell us.

And they thought it was none of our business.

Just enjoy life.

We'll take care of the money problems or whatever the situation is.

And you have nothing to think about.

And that's why my parents did.

And I think as a child, you shouldn't know what the money situation is in your house.

Just enjoy life.

You get one shot at being a child.

Enjoy it.

Party sunny today, highs near 42.

Cloudy tonight, lows around 34 and rain tomorrow with a high near 42.

We'll check news from Stuart J. Wattles coming up at just a few minutes here at WRJN Radio.

And again, if you want to call the can, online's are open all morning at 262634WRJN, 2626349756.

This is WRJN Radio.

We're at 1400 AM, 99.9 FM.

And we're seeing 98.1 FM in Kenosha.

Hold town radio refreshed us.

Civic media station at 719.

Well, that ain't going to work, isn't it?

You got to fix that CD.

All right.

Yeah, these are kind of old.

Cause they're oldies.

So, yeah.

Any other one?

All right.

We'll play one that doesn't skip.

Hopefully.

You ready?

Let's try this one here.

These are the turtles.

Flo and Eddie.

Well, I know what CD is going on the garbage.

As soon as the day is over, add 721 at WRJN Radio.

Thanks for joining us here today.

They'll appreciate it.

And Oprah Winfrey.

Remember when Oprah gave her audience a car back in the year 2004?

You know, everybody ended up paying the IRS $6,000 in taxes.

And they said, well, that's a bad thing.

Well, he got a brand new car for $6,000.

Maybe that's not a bad thing.

But it's not really anything you'd get on a quiz show.

Isn't free.

Totally.

Weird Al Yankovic started a volcano worshippers club in high school in California.

He says they didn't actually worship volcanoes.

He just wanted to get another photo of themselves in the yearbook.

That's kind of clever.

John Wilkes Booth planned on assassinating both Abraham Lincoln.

And Yolissa says Grant.

But Grant decided not to go to the theater that night, the Ford's theater.

Because his wife didn't like Mary Todd Lincoln.

I'll be saved his life.

And I mentioned this before, there was a young man who was at the Ford's theater that night

and saw the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.

He lived long enough to go on the CBS game show.

I've got a secret.

And that was his secret.

And you think about it, this guy saw Lincoln assassinated in 1865.

But yet in the late 1950s, he was on I've got a secret with Gary Moore on CBS.

I mean, what a time span.

He was at his 90s when he was on I've got a secret.

But that's some secret to tell.

A woman sued her boyfriend after eight years of dating because he never proposed.

Even though they advocate together.

Unfortunately, Judd said there's nothing he could do about it.

He do imagines suing every boyfriend that, you know, didn't propose to you.

All right.

If you're going to a New Year's Eve party, a study figured out the exact best moment to take a photo with that party.

This is when everybody settled in an all comfortable and before everybody's drunk and sloppy.

That is two hours and 36 minutes after the party officially starts.

I mean, people aren't drunk two hours and 36 minutes into a party.

Huh.

I thought they would be.

I think I've been to a New Year's party since the 1970s.

I think that was the last New Year's party I went to.

I wasn't invited to anything.

Maybe that's the reason.

Have you ever met someone who you can literally have say you're your identical twin,

except they're not related to you or connected to you in any way, shape or form.

Believe it or not, scientists say statistically every person has roughly six doppelgangers out there in the world.

The doppelganger or somebody who looks just like you.

That means there are seven people with your face, including you out there.

There's even a website called twinstrangers.net where you can upload your picture and find your doppelganger.

We're seven people with my face in the world.

Now, everybody has always told me I look like Marvin Hamlish.

We, you know, composer and songwriter.

They also told me I look like the actor Elliott Gould.

I don't see it, but I don't see myself as other people see me.

But can you imagine having all those people look like you?

Scary world.

Here's something else scary.

You're eating tiny pieces of plastic all the time.

There's no way we knew this much though.

The wildlife, worldwide life, federation.

It ran a new study and found we all consume a credit card worth of plastic every week.

What are we eating?

It's got all that plastic in it.

Survey asked a thousand Americans in any of their favorite winter drink.

Here's where they came up with hot chocolate, eggnog, apple cider, peppermint flavored coffee,

hot toddies, and hot buttered rum.

We went to the live nativity scene over at the first church of God on Saturday night,

right down the block here at Lathorven Victory, and they served hot chocolate.

And it was excellent, very hot, but outside.

She didn't rain, and it wasn't really that cold outside, but it really hit the spot.

They thanked them very much for serving that cookies, hot chocolate.

They had hot cider and a few bad hot toddies, but they had other drinks there as well.

But yeah, that was nice, hot chocolate.

Thank them very much for what they did in that live nativity scene looked really neat.

A recent poll found people who drink at least six glasses of water a day tend to be happier,

more optimistic, have more energy, and less likely to be late for work a lot.

I only drink water, so I can't tell you what it's like because

I don't know if I didn't drink water, if I'd be less happy.

But I drink like six, seven bottles a day because I don't drink anything else.

I drink orange juice and maybe some milk occasionally.

I got to tell Denise Lockwood was here yesterday, and she's the founder and editor of Racine County Eye,

and she didn't have any coffee with her.

And I found out this morning we actually have a coffee maker here.

The coffee maker is just around the corner from the studio, and it's got all these coffee things in there.

We have pop them in and you can make coffee.

Who knew?

Hi, you're in WRJ and radio.

Good morning.

Good morning.

Chaps calling from Racine.

From wait a second.

All the way from Racine, Wisconsin?

Yeah.

I wonder what this call is going to cost you calling from Racine to Racine.

By the way, Jeff, I don't know if you remember this, but when you used to make a phone call, a toll call, it was expensive.

Every time called another city, now it's cell phones, you'd call all over the world.

I don't think it cost you anything.

You know, you're regular phone bill.

What can I do for you this morning, Jeffrey?

Question of Skype and Zoom.

Those are all free.

Well, they're free up to a limit.

You can only get certain amount of minutes on Zoom and then they start charging you.

Yeah.

Yeah.

So question.

Upset.

Well, civic media is on.

I've got you before and you mentioned to NIN, which will come in on my spectrum box.

Oh, yeah, okay.

Yeah.

But they have a new thing now called Zoom at you.

Oh, and it doesn't get that app.

Yeah, I don't, I don't, I don't listen, I don't listen on apps.

What I do is if I want to listen to WRJN radio, I go to WRJN.com.

You can listen live there or I just listen to the radio.

But yeah, you can download apps.

I don't have too many apps downloaded.

I know the civic media app.

You can download on your phone or your computer.

But yeah, I don't, I just, you know, I just listen on the radio at home and I can listen on WRJN.com if you want.

But yeah, I don't know how, you know, I know I'm like smart TV.

I can get YouTube.

I can get all that stuff on there.

But I don't, I just listen on the radio or go to WRJN.com.

And right on the front, right under the logo, there's a listen live button where you can listen there.

And all the stations and civic media have that same thing on their website.

So you can listen there too without downloading apps.

Hey, Jeff got a run.

I take a break here, Jeffrey.

Happy New Year, my friend.

Happy New Year, you too.

Happy New Year.

You have a great New Year, Jeffrey.

We've got news.

Stuart J. Wattles in our new center watching stories for us.

That's coming up at just a moment.

Partly sunny with a hundred forty two today.

I'm Don Rosen.

I want to thank you for joining us.

Twenty nine degrees clear.

The sun is coming up at seven twenty nine.

At hometown radio refreshed.

WRJN, which tonight the box take on the Nets live.

6 p.m. from Brooklyn, New York in the Barclays Center.

I think a lot of the media outlets are irresponsible.

It's all shock value.

It's all ratings.

You think they could stop putting these experts on the news with their doomsday scenarios

of how the terrorists might attack us?

Because you get the sense that they're coming up with ideas that these people

haven't thought of themselves.

You know Wolf, very few people know this, but there's actually an incredibly

important atomic substation located right in Ocala, Florida now.

It wouldn't be hard for them to find.

I'll show you right here on the map, exactly where it is.

All that would say is a very small, close and charged place in this exact spot right here.

I mean, even a firecracker would do it well for a bottle rocket.

I mean, you could smear an egg McMuffin right in this spot and do it.

There's only one security guard there.

His name's Bob and he's a bit of a boozer.

So imagine the average of your life.

I feel my life slipping away.

I love to the sky.

And everything has turned away.

All I made was one mistake.

The promised world that I have to make.

Why can't you think it over?

Why can't you forget about the past?

And let me sit down there and hug me to set the chance.

The fuck me down there?

Can't you see I love you?

Since you've been gone, I've been in a trance.

This part needs a second chance.

Don't say it's over.

I just can't say goodbye.

So this is love.

Standing in the pouring rain.

I look on you.

I see never been thinking.

And I know I ain't got no right.

That's gruesome by the eyes.

Why can't you think it over?

Why can't you forget about the past?

And let me sit down there and hug me to set the chance.

Don't put me down there.

Can't you see I love you?

Since you've been gone, I've been in a trance.

This part needs a second chance.

Don't say it's over.

I just can't say goodbye.

I never loved him.

I never needed him.

I see what's happening.

During that break at a heart-to-heart talk with the CD player.

And then I said, no more skipping.

You can't do this anymore.

And we got a perfect version of 38 Special Second Chance.

It's 738.

At WRJ and Radio, I'm Don Rose.

And I want to thank a join to guest here on this Wednesday morning,

the final Wednesday of the year.

This part needs a second chance.

Stuart J. Wannels in our new center today.

These are the stories to which keeping an eye on $3 million coming to recene to fix lead water lines.

The DNR announced the funding is part of the 2024 Safe Drinking Water Loan program.

It will provide the city with a $2 million grant and a loan worth of million.

The city plans to replace about 300 lead service lines next year.

Property owners will not be charged for the planned private side replacement.

And the DNR expects to have funds available for line replacements for the next five years.

Aiming to move Wisconsin closer to being a lead-free state.

Jamesville police have confirmed the safety of that city's Blaine's farm and fleet.

At its parking lot, following a potential bomb threat.

The Dane County Bomb Squad technicians declared the safe area at around 8 o'clock last night.

After the initial call and shutdown,

every one of the store was told to leave.

The parking lot cleared out.

More information should be released later today.

There are 13 places to place your Christmas trees in Kenosha.

The city of Kenosha has opened its holiday tree disposable sites and disposal sites.

Which will be available until January 31st at designated locations.

The collected trees will be chipped and used as mulch in the city's parks.

Residents who are reminded take the ornaments off the trees.

Also, the tree stands at other metal objects before disposal.

Tree pickup and recene starts on the third.

Following that a smith of charges against a couple who were wrongfully arrested in Kenosha by police there at an Applebee's.

There's a possibility of a federal lawsuit being filed.

Jermell Jr., English Jr., and Shanyan Boyd,

who were mistakenly implicated in a hit and run with English,

being forcibly restrained by an officer despite their innocence.

The couple was charged.

But all charges have since been dropped.

They're contemplating taking legal action against the officers, the chief police,

and the restaurant suggested for their family.

Those are some of the stories to which a wattles our news director is watching in the news center for us today.

And anything else happening, you'll find about it.

You'll find out about it here at WRJN Radio.

It's 740 Good Morning, partly sunny today with a high near 42 degrees.

It's sunny and 30 now.

Beautiful sunrise over Lake Michigan.

There was a full moon apple I got here this morning.

It was kind of scary because there was a cloud going back and forth over it.

The night the Milwaukee Bucks take on the nets at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, New York,

6 p.m. Gangtime tomorrow, actually Friday, the Bucks take on the Cavaliers at 6 p.m.

here at WRJN.

And Sunday, New Year's Eve, we got the Packers and Vikings playing at 5 p.m.

from Minnesota.

And Monday, New Year's Day, the Badgers take on LSU in football.

That's it.

I think 9 a.m.

And 9 a.m.

Stern, the Pacers take on the Bucks, New Year's Night at 6.30 p.m.

All right here at WRJN, 1400 a.m.

99.9 fm and 98.1 fm in Kenosha.

If you want to talk about anything this morning, the phone lines are open.

262-634 WRJN 262-634-9756.

All right.

If you have curious kids around the house,

like to see how things are made or how things can be destroyed,

YouTube is your place.

A couple of the best are hydraulic press channel and cut in half.

Another is what's inside which is posted a video of what's new and old

in the Furby toys.

I watch those all the time.

These hydraulic press videos on Facebook.

They come on Reels.

And what they do is they take ordinary objects and crush them.

You know, hydraulic press.

Surprising enough when they, when they crush a book, it explodes with a bang.

Yeah, it's, it's really interesting to watch them do that stuff.

I don't know why I watch it.

Then they have to cut in half videos or they cut things in half.

Let's do what else we got here for you this morning.

Ah, the older you get, the more wonder like why do I think I was,

yeah, you're wondering why you think you were old at 26 years old.

I thought I was old at 13, then 18, then 21.

26 sounds like it was a kid.

Survey asked people over the age of 40 when they truly felt old for the first time.

The average answer was 47.

Hey, you want to go rent a place on Airbnb $6,000 a night.

The bachelor mansion, but they hold the TV show the bachelor.

Yeah, it's on Airbnb.

You can rent it.

Have a nice vacation there.

The top thing people would worry about.

Other people seeing if they lost their phones is their bank account information.

Only 8% of people say new photos of themselves or others bother them.

10% of people have admitted to having those on their cell phones.

I wouldn't want to lose my phone because I don't want to be able to get access to the information.

So you can't really keep track of your phone.

The best thing is to have the locks on your phone because if they can't unlock it, doesn't matter.

There's no way.

Well, my mom passed away.

We didn't have the phone code to unlock our cell phone.

And my wife did all the thing with AT&T and going after it.

It's a major process.

And we the death certificates and everything else involved and eventually we got it.

But still a lot of work.

We're almost like to to swear at our TV provider over the phone than any other company.

So that light TV providers came in first with one swear word every 82 calls.

All by contractors, cable companies, mechanics and tow truck operators.

First of all, it's not nice to swear at anybody over the phone.

People just doing their job.

And if they can't help you with a nanosecond you want, they'll get to it eventually.

I was hung up on my electric company.

I was questioning my bill and they said, this can't be.

And she said, you're not going to talk to me like that.

I'm disconnecting this phone call.

It's a swear atter.

I just was a little exacerbated because she wasn't answering my question.

She hung up on me.

What are the perks of living single forever?

Some of the best ones they came up with.

It takes five seconds between the impulse to leave the house and actually leaving.

You don't have to go to one family, worth of events for the holidays.

And you sleep in the middle of the bed.

Your limbs spread out everywhere and nobody pushing or complaining.

Here are the top nine things that caused the most stress and arguments between couples.

Money.

Too much family time.

Being forced to spend time with your in-laws.

This is over the holidays, I guess.

Too much time with each other.

That sounds healthy, huh?

Entertaining the kids when they're home from school.

All the extra cooking demands.

Too many social events.

Unpredictable work commitments and getting too drunk.

Wait, that's incorrect.

Drink a lot.

All right.

Women say men are afraid to get married.

These are the reasons that women came up with, that men are afraid to get married.

Guys constantly hearing jokes about how horrible married life is.

Weddings have become ridiculously expensive.

Well, you can control the thought of divorce terrifying and the loss of power.

Well, that's a given.

The minute you say I do, you're going to lose the power.

That's as the way it is.

But you know what?

I wouldn't trade being married versus single for anything in the world.

I just love being married.

And so I was very lucky.

I found the perfect person for me.

You don't usually do that too often.

But I'm very lucky I found her.

And yes, she's the boss.

I did lose power.

I will tell you that.

The average person unlocks their cell phone 80 times a day.

I don't doubt that for one second.

The average is come out to about once every 11 minutes.

And while we're dumping crazy phone obsession stats on yours and other one.

The average kid today will spend six years looking at their cell phone or tablet screen

before they turn 18 years old.

That's one third of their life.

Think about that for a second.

And then if you're a parent, do something about it.

You know, I started doing something which I should have done a long time ago.

I put my cell phone in the bedroom when I go out to watch TV in the living room.

I don't want to see that because I'm constantly picking it up to check things on it.

And before I had a cell phone, I never had to check anything.

And I mentioned this before when I was a kid in August, first week in August,

my dad always got two weeks vacation.

And we always went away.

He never spent it at home.

So we used to pack up the car and leave for two weeks with no contact with our home or anybody else.

We never called home or anything.

And we just hoped that our home was going to be there when we got back.

We took the dog to the vet.

And that was it.

That's how we spent our vacation.

Not thinking about anything.

I didn't think about it.

I assume my parents didn't either.

But you didn't check on anything before cell phones.

Now cell phones are a great thing to have.

I'm not belittling them.

But I think we go a little too far with them sometimes, don't you?

So every found the 10 most common little things we argue about at home,

leaving the lights on all the time and wasting electricity.

No, leaving the TV on.

Not really.

Not turning off the lights when you leave the house,

leaving the windows open, leaving the doors open, leaving the locks unlocked on the doors,

leaving a light on when you go to sleep, messing with the thermostat.

I'm not allowed to do that.

I can't touch it.

Leaving electric devices on, like a hair straightener,

and letting your alarm go off forever and ever not waking up.

Now the thermostat one, I'm not allowed to touch it in our house.

Sometimes I do.

But I always put it back to the way it was.

I didn't fix a thermostat here at the radio station yesterday.

It was 75 degrees in here.

And I forgot that we're the thermostat.

It was in another studio.

And I lowered it to 70.

So, you know, it's not so.

I was 75 degrees yesterday when I came in here.

And I thought I had malaria.

But no.

Turned it down.

Feels nice today.

Nice and comfortable today.

70 degrees.

I should even drop it a few.

All right.

For today, partly sunny with a high-tier 42 degrees.

Cloudy with rain.

That 5 a.m. tonight.

Lose around 34.

For the most part, just cloudy.

Rain tomorrow.

Eyes 42 right now.

It's clear, sunshine, 30 degrees.

Don't forget tonight.

The box against the Brooklyn Nets.

Live from the Barclay Center.

Tough you why you understand.

Some baller to run over.

They don't think about the things they do.

This is always the best.

So, hold on.

And you know, we'd rather be with you.

Me, oh, my.

Tough you why you understand.

She don't fly over she can.

Tough you why you understand.

She don't fly over.

Tough you why you understand.

She don't fly over.

You know she'd rather be with you.

You know she'd rather be with me.

The turtles flowing any.

Okay.

Tomorrow we have a great show.

We have Jim Brzeer and Carol G.

Plot on programs at the Golden Rondale Theater

and some other locations as well on the history of RSC.

And I didn't realize how long it takes him to research this information,

but it takes a long time and they'll be here tomorrow

and they'll be discussing downtown at Christmas time.

The life was like in the 50s and 60s in downtown Racine at Christmas time.

You're going to love this show.

These two are, I go to all their shows at the Golden Rondale.

They had one of the, I'm the street in front of the main street there

where the public library was celebrating its anniversary.

They put one on out there as well.

They bring guests and people who actually lived during the period

had something to do with it.

And they tell great stories.

They bring in artifacts with them now.

For our purposes, they're just going to be in the studio describing what they did.

And it's just amazing.

We're going to talk about some of the stores that were in downtown,

the hustle and bustle, the huge vertical signs.

They don't have it anymore.

You never see downtown with huge vertical signs,

but they used to have them here.

We're going to talk about the window displays,

the types of stores that we're here.

We're going to talk about the shopping women's clothing,

men's clothing stores that were downtown shoe stores.

We're going to talk about the jewelry stores every downtown.

Gifts and toy stores, the record stores, the bookstores,

the bakeries, the candy stores, the camera stores.

They even have camera stores anymore.

Luggage stores, furniture store.

All going to be here tomorrow.

And the entertainment, the theaters, what was around to go.

Jim Berser and Carol G. N. Fortay here tomorrow morning,

706 live in our studio.

You don't want to miss this.

All right, you've got to listen to it.

Just a quick reminder on somebody who's asking me,

they missed yesterday's show about the year and review

with Denise Lockwood from Racine County.

We're going to rebroadcast that on New Year's Day

or you can listen to the podcast at wrjn.com

and on the civic media app.

Okay, and coming up on Friday,

Brett Hoffman's going to be here earlier at 706

instead of his usual 730 times slot.

And we're going to talk about all the new movies coming out

and the Golden Globe nominees.

Brett's worked for Marcus theaters for about 25 years or so.

So his movies are his life.

I'm going to talk about that coming up.

That's Friday morning.

Next week, Kelly Cruz will be here on January 2nd,

our first guest of the New Year to talk about the downtown

racing corporation and some of the things coming up on Friday

of next week.

Melissa Caprillian, our alderman's going to be here in studio.

So that should be a lot of fun too.

Can animals predict the weather?

We're going to find out because my wife gave me the

Farmer's Almanac.

Centuries ago, farmers and others observed animal behavior

and recognized patterns that corresponded to weather events.

These observations were passed down through generations as advice.

Which of us today is as adages and are they true?

Well, let's find out cows.

Can they forecast the weather?

Many weather.

Many weather.

What's where I'm looking for here?

Sains talk about how cows can predict the weather.

If a cow stands with its tail to the west, the weather is said to be fair.

If a cow grazes with its tail to the east, the weather is likely to turn sour.

If the bull leads the cows to pasture, expect rain.

If the cows proceed the bull, the weather will be uncertain.

Expect rain when dogs eat grass, cats purr, and wash.

She'd turn into the wind, oxen stiff up the air, sniffing the air,

and swine her restless.

When cats sneeze, that's a time for rain.

I never knew this stuff.

I don't know if it's true or not.

But if it is, there you go.

The price of burgers had fast food joints going up.

I just bought my wife a big Mac the other day.

Over five dollars for a big Mac.

When did that happen?

54% increase in the past decade.

Why the fast food chain say we'd be happily spending $10 for lunch at a slightly nicer place like Chipotle,

then they realize, well, we can increase our prices too.

$5 for a big Mac the other day.

Wow.

And finally, a new survey asks kids between the ages of eight and 17 years old

to name the most embarrassing things their parents do.

Here are the top three.

We're telling people stories about them or showing pictures of them when they were small,

acting weird, being silly and thinking they're funny when they're not.

We had a picture of my brother and this was, you know, families did this a lot.

They took pictures of their babies naked with their butts sticking up laying down on a blanket or something.

Well, it's one thing to take the picture, but my parents actually had a framed

and it was on the wall in our house and every time my brother had their friends over there

looking at him buck naked, blanket.

Now, I had pictures like that of me taking.

However, they never framed them and hung them up in the house.

My brother always had his picture up there and he said,

we could take it down already and actually have the picture.

When I cleaned out my parents' apartment, they still had it hanging up there.

All right.

$758 of WRJ and I'm down, Rosen.

Don't forget tomorrow, you got to be here, $706.

When we talked to Jim Mercere and Carol Jean Fortay

about the history of her scene.

Having some a great day with WRJ and the Civic Media Station hometown radio were fresh.
