The Don Rosen Show (Hour 1)

The Don Rosen Show · Fri Dec 22, 2023

I'll be cloudy, drizzly, and foggy today.

I still miss my family back home.

I got the grandmother that gives cheap gifts every year.

Every time holidays rolls around,

she gives socks, underwear, miniature bobbles,

things like that that stand there free,

but she gives it to you as a gift, right?

So last year, she gave all the grandkids gift cards,

which is new.

She read them up in an envelope,

so we wouldn't see the amount.

She just told us, hey, this is what stores do.

So my gift card was the best buy.

I go to Best Buy, Black Friday, do some shop,

and I wait in line for two hours.

I open up the envelope.

It's a $5 gift card to Best Buy.

$5.

Can you believe that?

I can't even buy batteries with that gift card, man.

I'm standing in Best Buy on Black Friday.

It's Skittles.

Thanks grandma.

We'll be all upside.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas.

Make the you'll tight game.

From now on, our troubles will be miles away.

Here we are, as an olden days.

Happy golden days.

On your faith of friends who are dear to us.

Gather near to us once more.

Through the years, we all will be together.

If the faith is alive.

Hang a shining star upon the highest buy.

And have yourself a merry little Christmas.

That's my global play.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas.

WRJ and radio.

I'm Don Rosen.

I want to thank you for joining me here today.

The last weekend of the shop before Christmas.

This is it.

I hope you got it all done.

You can just relax and enjoy some time with the family.

And just get it all out of your system.

Sit down and relax.

Hey, coming up today at 7 o'clock, 706.

We're going to be talking to Eric Goodwin.

Eric Goodwin is the actual constructor

of the live nativity scene at the first church of God

at the corner of Lathrop and Victory Avenue.

It's right down the block.

Must three blocks from here.

And what they do is every year, they bring out live animals,

live people and nativity.

And it's the living nativity.

And it's tonight.

And we'll talk more about that with Eric Goodwin coming up

at 7 o'clock this morning here at WRJ and 730.

From Marcus theaters, we got Bret Hoffman stopping by.

We've got I think seven movies opening up this from now

through Christmas, seven movies.

We'll talk about that.

We have Mike Clemens coming up at 10 to the hour, 8 o'clock.

And until then, it's just you and me together at WRJ

and Radio, hometown radio refreshed.

And I'm Michael Bowlay.

Happy self, I'm Eric Little Christmas.

The weather forecast for today, some rain,

but the high day 45, rain tonight,

it lows around 48, clonnie with a chance of rain tomorrow

with a high day 46 Christmas day, rain likely with a high

day or 50 temperatures is going to be nice.

Now a lot of people say, Oh, rain.

I want to wipe Christmas, a snowy Christmas.

If you had to travel on the road, you wouldn't say that.

It's nice if you're sitting in your living room with the curtains opened up

and you're sitting with a cup of hot chocolate watching the snowfall

when you don't have to drive it.

But if you have to drive and this is being one of the busiest

weekends of the year, maybe you don't want to much snow or any for that matter.

You're not going to get any.

It's going to be a high near 50 degrees on Christmas day.

Right now 44 degrees in clonnie, maybe some drizzle a little later on this morning

for time we get off the air.

Other than that, right now, it's just clonnie and 44.

I wore my heavy winter coat.

I could have worn a lighter jacket today than that.

It's 611 at WRJ and radio.

We talked about snow in the lack of it.

If you want some snow, I'm going to tell you about the best snowy movies out there.

You want the snowy movie number one on the list is Fargo from 1996.

One of the best movies when it comes to a crime movie.

But it all takes place in the snow.

The hall movies in the snow, everything's in the snow.

So if you want snow, Fargo, then there's the movie, the grave from 2011.

This is the one where Liam Neeson fights wolves, remember that Jeremiah Johnson.

This is back from 1972 with Robert Redford out in the wilderness.

That's a good one.

The shining takes place at a resort in the snow, 1980.

Here's one of my favorite horror movies, suspense horror movies.

The thing from 1982.

This is the second one.

There was one earlier in the 1950s with James Arnes playing the thing Ken Toby was in

that film as well.

This is the one with, what's his name?

He's with Golihan.

I was just, I can't think of his name all of a sudden.

I'll think of it in just a moment.

The Disney, he was in a million Disney movies when it was a kid.

I'll think of it and say, anyway, the thing from John Carpenter from 1982.

That's a great movie.

The great silence.

Now, you've probably never heard of this film.

I actually have it on DVD.

It's from 1968.

It's an old spaghetti western and the entire movie takes place in the snow.

That must have been tough filming that movie.

Alive from 1993.

There was a little bit of gruesome movie.

It's a true story about a plane crash where survivors were forced to eat each other.

Yes, that's what you want to bring the family over for Christmas to watch it.

Touching the void, a documentary from 2003 about two stranded climbers, the hateful

eight from 2015 Quentin Tarotino's western.

And this was all during the snow, everything in the movies during the snow.

Of course, there's runaway train with John Boyd from 1985.

Again, the whole thing takes place in a snow and a blizzard.

So there you go.

If you don't have any snow outside, you got snow on your television with those movies.

Kurt Russell, all of a sudden, he came to me.

Kurt Russell stars in the thing.

It takes place in the Antarctic region and these, I guess, scientists are down there in

the military.

There's some scientists, I guess, down there and there's something out there in the snow.

It came from another planet and it's really suspenseful and good.

Even the monster is good in that film.

So check it out.

That thing.

But the first one is good from the 50s.

The second one's even better.

New survey found the percentage of kids who hate Christmas out there.

Did you believe they actually ask kids do you hate Christmas?

The answer was zero percent.

No kids hate Christmas, but out of 500 kids surprisingly enough, not a single one of them

said that they hated Christmas and the thing they liked most about Christmas wasn't the

presents.

The majority said no.

The majority said it's having not to go to school.

Somehow, I don't believe that.

I still think it's the present.

What else do you have?

Oh, you know, they always ask adults what their New Year's resolutions are.

It's always the same thing.

They're going to lose weight.

I'm going to exercise and I'm going to save money.

They decided to ask kids this time.

What are your top New Year's resolutions?

And here they are.

Better grades, save up some money, make more friends, eat healthier and listen to their

parents more.

All noble efforts, I don't know if it's going to work, but very noble.

If they can fulfill that, that'd be great, wouldn't it?

Now, do you ever kiss anybody under the mistletoe?

I don't think I've ever seen a mistletoe in anybody's house.

But anyway, there's kissing someone under the mistletoe count as cheating.

Hmm, according to a survey, 12% of men, 10% of women say it's not cheating to kiss someone

under the mistletoe, but if you kiss them in any of the situation, it's a different story.

It would be a study found that the joy we get from receiving gifts starts to drop the

more gifts we get.

Which is a great reason to tell your son or daughter, we only got you one Christmas gift

this year because we want you to know that the more you get, the more the joy it will

decrease.

So here's your gift.

I'm going to try that on them, save awards, but the joy of giving people gifts, stay

strong no matter what.

Let's say I want you to give up Facebook for a year.

How much would it cost me?

Well, surprisingly enough, it's not that much money.

Because people would give up Facebook for a year for a thousand dollars, I'd do it

for 50.

I wouldn't care.

I'll do it for 20 by even 20 bucks, I'll give it up for a year, 7% of people have gotten

into trouble with the law after their Christmas holiday party.

We always hear about people getting in trouble at the Christmas party, they're doing things

they shouldn't do, they're drinking more than they should and they're saying things to people

they shouldn't say and they're touching people they shouldn't touch.

That's at the party.

But after the party, 7% of people get in trouble with the law, it could be bad driving, it

could be, you know, intoxicated driving, it could be a lot of things trying to get in trouble.

A lot of people have their holiday parties after New Year's, maybe for a couple of reasons,

first of all, it's easier to get a venue, it's cheaper to get a venue and people have

more free time after the New Year.

Because before the New Year, you're, you know, going to holiday parties, you're running

around, you got family over and so some of them do it after the New Year, January 10th

or after that and that way they have plenty of time and it's not a bad idea.

One company I did that, my factory was here.

We did it in January one year and it was okay, you know, it was a good time we had.

There's a fun fact for you.

If you put all the people together who hunt during deer season in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania,

Michigan and West Virginia, you'd have the largest army in the world, total of more

than 2.3 million people with guns, the largest army, that's during hunting season, we have

a good friend of ours goes hunting during hunting season and yeah, you'd be good.

He's recuperating, he had a shoulder replacement, yeah, I didn't know they can do that.

They actually replaced his entire shoulder, it's like a hipster, you know, hip replacement

except shoulder, I didn't know they can replace that.

I guess they can replace anything if they put their mind to it.

I got a new valve, so they replace that on me.

All right, we've got some rain in the forecast and it drizzled a little later on, highs

there, 45 tonight, rain again, lows 40, cloudy chance of more rain tomorrow with a hundred

or 46 in the outlook for Christmas day at this point is rain with a high near 50 right

now 44 degrees in cloudy at 618 at WRTN, home town ready over fresh, we're located on the

dial 1400 AM, 99.9 FM and 98.1 FM and we stream at the Civic Media app, we also stream

at WRJN.com as well, so keep it ready.

Just see the sleep out, wringling, wringling, wringling, wringling, wringling, wringling,

Oh, no sleigh-round for us this year.

Well, let's get wheels on it.

Oh, yeah, the Ronettes with the Phil Spectre wall of sound.

If WRT and radio, hometown radio were fresh at 6.23 and a good morning to you.

I have my gift cards here to give out to the sanitation workers, the people who pick up our trash.

I meant to give it out last week and I missed them.

They came by today.

I can't miss them, but I have an oil change before they come around at 9.30, 10 o'clock.

Oh, I don't miss them.

They got to track down the truck and make sure they're not my people because I want to give them the gift cards.

Same thing to the letter carrier.

I want to make sure they get their gift cards today.

I miss them.

They get them next week, but hopefully I won't.

You know, it's really interesting here.

There are certain smells out there.

There are reminders of stuff, good stuff, good times.

And somebody put together a list of smells that immediately remind you of the holidays.

Now, I may not do everybody, but you know, most people responded to a survey and here's what they said hot chocolate,

freshly baked cookies, the smell of a fire, hopefully not the house burning down, peppermint, apple cider, pine.

In other words, the smell of having a Christmas tree in your house, which is kind of surprising.

I came in sixth place.

I think that would have come in first.

Potato Latkes.

Now, this is a shout out to people who celebrate Hanukkah.

Potato Latkes are just what they sound like.

They're little fried potato things like a pancake.

They're almost they're called potato Latkes pie candles and gingerbread out of that list.

Yeah, it's got to be the pine tree, the Christmas tree.

And what else definitely reminds you the holidays that Christmas tree smell?

And that's what that's what I would think.

Three out of five people say they used to think a lot of essential workers for granted,

but now the recorders of people go out of the way to thank them.

This is ever since the pandemic.

The workers we thank most include nurses, doctors and delivery drivers.

You know, the pandemic changed us in a lot of ways.

People are now working from home.

They didn't think they could work from home closed down a lot of businesses that never reopened.

That's too bad.

I think it made us more aware of our health and had to protect ourselves,

even though that Christmas party, people were in masks.

And I still people, I see people a lot of people wearing masks.

Used to be before the pandemic, you wore a mask, people thought,

oh my goodness, what's the matter with them?

Now, it's just the opposite.

They're not sick.

They want to prevent from being sick.

Yeah, the pandemic really changed us in a lot of ways.

And I don't think it'll ever be the same again.

You know, here's an annual list of the words,

passwords of the year.

It's hard to believe, but people are still using passwords like 123456

and the word password.

You know, why would you do that?

I guess if you don't care if somebody breaks into your system or not,

or maybe you're thinking, although they'll never try those,

they don't think where that's stupid, do we?

10 or 19% of people who have been caught online shopping at work have used these excuses here.

Any here that this is the big excuse they use.

It's actually good for the company.

You see, if you shop online, you don't have to leave the office,

which would take more time and kill your productivity.

So you should be happy that I'm shopping online during company time.

I would love to know the boss who accepted that excuse and where they're now working.

Okay.

Paranormal investigators say they've recorded ghosts at a restaurant in Oklahoma.

And now you can see the proof for yourself online.

How do we know they didn't rig it online?

How do we know that?

Here's a fun fact for you.

The recent Chuck E. Cheese love celebrating birthdays is,

according to a book of his origin story, he's an orphan who didn't know his own birthday,

so he loved other kids parties instead.

I saw I was watching that live PD cop show the other day and they were inside of Chuck E. Cheese

because there was a fight inside.

I didn't see those big animatronic animals there.

Did they get rid of those?

Chuck E. Cheese, my daughter used to love them when she was a kid.

Chevy Chase, yep, the same guy from the National Ampune movies.

He played in the banding college.

His former bandmates were Walter Becker and Donald Fagan.

Name sounds familiar.

Yeah, they went out to form Steely Dan without Chevy Chase.

Chevy Chase was the, I think he was the drummer.

And Walter Becker and Donald Fagan went on to fame and legend with the group Steely Dan.

Here's a dating term for you.

Hat fishing.

I'm so glad I'm out of the dating pool.

I'd never do well with these terms.

Hat fishing.

It's where someone hides their bald head on dating apps.

21% of bald guys say they've tried to pull that off.

About one in 10 people claim they've been a victim of hat fishing.

But when you meet the person, they can take off their hat eventually.

And since one is bald and determined, I think it's just the opposite now.

I think the guys who embraced it are doing very well.

No, I don't think it's a term.

Anytime I would imagine I've never been on a dating site before.

But I imagine if you lie on a dating site about your looks or anything else,

it's going to show when they meet you in person.

And then they're going to say, I don't know.

I don't think I'll goodbye.

Have a nice life.

I don't, you know, I would imagine.

So a guy in Oregon went to his family doctor a few years ago because he was depressed

over his wife having an affair.

After that appointment, he found out the other guy's wife had been cheating was with that doctor.

He sued the doctor for $2.4 million for professional negligence.

And I believe he won the case.

I remember hearing about that 629 at WRGN radio.

I'm Don Rosen.

Raid today with a hundred 45 tonight.

Rain lows around 40.

Plenty with a chance of rain tomorrow.

Highs near 46 and Christmas Day.

The outlook rain likely with a high near 50 right now.

44 in clouty at WRGN radio.

We're civic media.

We're hometown radio refreshed.

All the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me a partridge in a bird dream.

Hi, honey.

Yeah, I just got it.

It's terrific.

It looks like some kind of a bird in a tree.

Well, of course it was a surprise, honey.

I was expecting a hat.

Well, you know, I have been driving some broad hints about maybe getting a hat.

Well, okay.

Thanks a lot, honey.

And Merry Christmas.

Hi, honey.

Yes, I got the calling birds.

Yeah, the man just dropped them off.

They look almost like a half a turtle and a half a dove.

Turtle devs, huh?

I never heard of them.

But the thing is, I now have ten birds and I'm not really a bird person.

As you know, honey, I'm more of a, well, a hat person, really.

On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me.

Seven swans, the swim and six geese all day.

And five gold rings.

Four calling birds, three branches, two turtle dots,

and a partridge in a pear tree.

Hi, honey.

No, I like the five gold rings.

It's just that the next day, it was right back to the bird.

It turns out that geese and french hens are natural enemies.

Now, no more birds.

Ten lords are leaping nine.

Ladies dance and eight.

Mates are moving.

Hi, honey.

Now they're not birds are they?

They're people.

Oh, well, I guess everybody's happy, honey.

Four calling birds, three branches, two turtle dots,

and I think we should see other people.

And a partridge in a pear tree.

All the weather outside is frightful,

but the fire is so delightful.

And since we've no place to go,

let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

Man, it doesn't show signs of stubborn,

and I've brought missing corn for father.

The lights are turned away down low,

let it snow, let it snow.

When we finally kiss goodnight,

now I'll keep going out in the storm.

But if you really hold me tight,

all the way home I'll be warm,

and the fire is slowly dying,

and my dear, we're still goodbye.

But as long as you'd love me so good,

let it snow, let it snow and snow.

No snow for us.

Rain today with a high-tier 45.

Tonight, rain loads around 40.

Cloudy chance of rain tomorrow with a high-tier 46.

Christmas day, rain-likely.

With a high-near 50 degrees.

When we finally kiss goodnight,

how I'll keep going out in the storm.

But if you really grab me tight,

all the way home I'll be warm,

all the fire is slowly dying,

and my dear, we're still goodbye.

But as long as you'd love me so,

let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

I forget the year it was,

but Dean Martin passed away on Christmas day.

It was sad.

He passed away all alone.

He had been in a real deep depression for the years before he passed away,

because his son was killed,

his son was in the military,

and he was on a training mission in the Nevada desert,

I think it was, it was somewhere in that area.

And he's playing crashed.

And he lost his son.

And he never recovered from that Dean Martin.

And they had a picture of him sitting in a restaurant.

Now he's, you can see the depression was kind of in on him there.

And he just withered away and passed away.

Let me look that up for a second.

He would say that was, it was on Christmas day.

I remember because I was at a 7-11 store,

and I remember hearing about it.

Let me just a quick look that up for a second

and find out what date that was.

It was obviously several years ago,

because I wasn't living here at the time.

Yeah, he passed away on December 25th, 1995.

It was kind of sad.

Here's a guy that was part of the rat pack.

He was a big star with Jerry Lewis.

Yeah, that was just too bad.

Trying to look here, which son it was that passed away.

Yeah, I am trying to look here.

I can't, I can't look and talk at the same time.

I didn't know this.

Dean Martin's son-in-law was Carl Wilson from the Beach Boys.

Yeah, I didn't, I didn't know that.

That's kind of interesting.

All right.

I'll find out more about it after the next break.

I can't talk and look at the same time.

One of these people that can only do one thing,

I do it well, and then move on.

640 at WRJ, and I'm Don Rosen.

I want to thank you for joining me here today.

If you need extra money during the holidays,

I'm going to help you out now, okay?

I've got extra money for you.

Do you know the average American estimates,

they have $26 and lose change lying around the house?

It's actually more than double that.

If you collect all your change and you've earned it to cash,

you're looking at an average of $56.

We have a little change cup.

We have on our dresser and we drop our loose change in there.

And every once in a while,

we'll bring it to the bank and we'll cash it in for a cold, hard cash.

We get $35.40 in there sometimes.

Now the other day, I'm looking for some quarters.

And one of the quarters doesn't feel right.

I take a look at it.

The edges are all straight.

They're straight going around the quarter.

Turns out it wasn't a quarter.

It was a silver dollar.

They used to make silver dollars huge.

I have a couple still left over when they were huge from the 1880s.

This one was a small one.

And it wouldn't fit in a quarter slot.

They make it so won't fit.

But I didn't even know I had that.

I don't know if somebody gave that to me by mistake

or whatever as a quarter when I got changed from something.

I would imagine that's, you know,

because if they gave me a dollar something change,

I would have got a paper bill.

So I imagine I just got that.

I made a profit of 75 cents right there.

My grandfather gave me 10 silver dollars once all from the year 1880.

And he said, hold on to these because they will be valuable someday.

They were probably valuable at the time he gave them to me because they were real silver.

I mean, there was no copper and there was just pure silver.

And he gave me 10 of them.

There was a department store in near my neighborhood when I was a little kid

called White's department store.

They had pinball machines there.

And that's right.

I went in and cashed in the 10 silver dollars for dimes one of the time.

And I played pinball with them.

I remember going to the cashier at the pinball area.

And I said, will you take these?

He goes, I sure will.

Give me 10 dimes for a pure silver silver silver dollar from 1880.

And I think I have one left that I didn't get rid of.

How stupid was I?

My grandfather also gave me a Kennedy half dollar with him.

He claims it was a mistake in it.

And he said, hold on to this.

There was the first batch had a mistake.

This is one of them.

I don't think it was a mistake.

And I think he heard it.

There was a batch that had a mistake.

And he thought he had that batch.

But yeah, you do stupid things when you're a kid.

And that's one of them must be really stupid because I never forgot that.

To make sure you're not miserable and stressed out from now until new years.

There's some things you could do.

There's something fun that you used to do as a kid.

Like cash in silver dollars and play pinball.

Do something selfish.

Cash in silver dollars and play pinball.

Get outside.

Volunteer for something and forgive your family.

My family didn't do anything wrong to forgive.

But if they want my forgiveness, they have it.

I don't think I was ever mad at anybody in my family.

My brother and I got along in our entire lives without even fighting or getting,

you know, at a whack with each other.

I love my wife, my daughter, my son.

I'm not mad at anybody.

I mean, if they want my forgiveness, I'll grant it to them.

But they don't really need it because they didn't do anything wrong.

Well, that's good.

That's good.

It's 643 at WRJ and we have cloudy cloudy sky right now.

We have 44 degrees coming up at 730.

The seven o'clock this morning, actually, 706 this morning.

We'll be Eric Goodwin from the first church of God right at the corner of

Lathrop and Victory Avenue.

Tonight's the night.

They do their live nativity scene.

Now we have rain in the forecast.

I hope it doesn't rain.

Now the, the people in the live nativity scene are under cover.

It's like a major scene.

But it's live with real animals, real people.

I don't know if they use a real baby in there.

They might.

I don't know, but you'll find out tonight.

Anyway, we'll find out where Eric Goodwin.

He's coming up this morning at 706 at WRJ and radio.

All right, here are a few rude things you shouldn't do at Christmas time.

When you're invited over to someone's house, I guess don't bring food that requires

oven space unless you've cleared it first with the host.

Don't start tense conversations about politics or prying to other people's business.

Don't try to take over the kitchen and don't assume you can take home leftovers.

You know, after you have that ham and turkey, whatever they're having,

box them up for me.

I'll be taking some home.

Well, maybe they didn't want you to take any home.

Maybe they had plans for that.

So don't assume you're getting that.

We were at a dinner after a funeral the other day.

It was very good food.

They had catered there after the funeral.

And at the end, when we were ready to leave, they said,

we had plenty left over.

There was Styrofoam boxes full of food.

Feel free to take some home.

Well, we didn't.

But it would have been nice.

I mean, it was a really good food.

I forget who catered.

If you're getting ready to break out the seasonal red dinnerware for the holiday guests,

you should know that a new study out has found that picky eaters are

less likely to try foods served in anything red.

It's unclear why, although the researcher suggested that it could be because people

have negative expectations about the color red or maybe it just seems

too bold for people who are already picky.

So, hey, if you don't want to meet a lot of food, red dishes.

Who knew that?

I could have had some red dishes.

All right, let's go back to Thanksgiving.

Would it be better if they did it on a Friday?

Now, we do it on Thursday and a lot of people get Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday off.

So you have a four day weekend out of it.

But how about if we moved it to Friday, 27,

27% of Americans had guessed they'd like it on a Friday.

29% of people say they would only spend Thanksgiving with a family out of obligation,

up to 16%, 30 years ago, and 44% of us would skip seeing the family for a thousand bucks.

So if I gave you a thousand, you'd blow off your family for Thanksgiving in the holidays.

We don't have family visiting. We don't have a lot of family here.

My brother and my sister-in-law live here.

The rest of my brother-in-laws, brothers in law, they live out of state, one of Virginia,

one out in Texas. So we don't get a lot of chances to see them.

We do some Zoom stuff with them or FaceTime with them with one of my wife's brothers.

So we do that around the holidays and I have an aunt who lives on the West Coast.

I've got an uncle lives on the East Coast.

So we don't really have a lot of family here.

Wish I did because growing up, I used to love being with my family.

We used to all get together. We had my father's aunt and uncle lived in Brooklyn

and we used to get together at their house and these houses are not big.

So it was packed, especially when you have like six or seven kids in the house.

But we had such a great time hiding around that house.

And then my grandmother living queens during the holidays.

We went to her house to again, not a big apartment.

But with all those people, you didn't mind it for some reason.

A lot of people were it.

Some people had to eat in the kitchen, some of the living rooms, some of this little area outside

the front door. But we always had a good time.

I love being with family at the holidays.

So I feel bad when somebody says for a thousand bucks, I'd skip it.

Hey, we're not going to say we're spoiling our kids.

But wow, people have got to get a handle on this.

According to the survey, 54% of parents say they're going to try to buy their kids

everything they want for the holidays, regardless of the cost.

That means the majority of parents are going all in other kids wish list this year.

And since some of them don't have the money, one out of four will dig into their emergency

savings. They're 401k and a payday loan to make it happen.

Those payday loans can really hit your heart.

No, I we have a comedy bit.

Maybe I'll dig it up and we'll play it for you.

It's about a guy who is, I'm in fact, I will dig it up and play for you.

His kids wish list, it's over $3,000 and you got to hear that.

That's good. So we'll play that for you.

Hey, if you're traveling with gifts, you might want to keep, excuse me,

want to skip the wrapping.

The TSA points out wrapped gifts are fine, but they need to be unwrapped in some cases.

You can try to avoid this by at least ensuring your gift is a TSA approved item.

However, it's probably best to err on the side of caution.

Just skip the wrapping paper all together this way.

You don't hold up the line or waste your own time.

And by the way, what you do is you just wrap it when you get to where you're going.

Or once you get past the TSA, you might have time, you know, before your plane takes off.

You might want to just wrap it right there.

It's not bad, huh?

Civic media, hometown radio, we're fresh.

Rain in the forecast today with a high-neared 45 right now.

Cloudy and 44 degrees.

When you're my son, game is Christmas, I was like, yeah, man, he ain't real, I'm sorry.

So ridiculous list. What is wrong with you? We can go hazzies.

My son and kid came out with a worst list.

This is his list. He's like, look, Dad, I need a, I need a smartphone,

some ear Jordans, and an iPad.

I'm like, well,

Santa don't do iPads.

Santa does Legos and action figures.

To which you respond, it, well, I feel like I had a pretty good year.

So I'm gonna keep it on my list.

And then we just uncomfortably stared at each other.

And finally, I was like, well, I'm Santa Claus.

I didn't want to tell you, I was hoping that your friends would tell you,

and then I would avoid it.

But you had backed me into a financial corner,

which is $3,000 Christmas list.

Now redo your list, and keep it under $150.

And through the people around,

and through the baby please come home,

and through the church beside,

and through the audience home,

and through the happy sound,

and through the baby please come home,

and through the baby's back home,

those light like Christmas at all.

And I remember when you were here,

and all the fun we had was here,

and I realized I was dreaming.

I'm watching the child,

and you should be here with me,

but baby please come home.

And through the baby's back home,

and through the baby's back home,

and through the baby's back home,

and through the baby's back home,

and through the baby's back home,

those light like Christmas at all.

And I remember when you were here,

and all the fun we had was here,

and I realized I was dreaming.

WRGN Radio, 653, I'm Don Rose,

and I want to thank you for joining us here this morning.

Let's check some news headlines.

This is from Stuart J. Wattles,

our news director in our news center this morning.

People impacted by the fire this week.

It received Washington apartments have been moved

to a new shelter at the Decoven Center.

They've been staying at the Grace Church on Green Bay Road.

The Red Cross helped with the change

due to the lack of space at the church.

The Red Cross is accepting financial donations

to help the fire victim saying that

that can help immediately assist

in replacing essential lost items.

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office

is recommending charges including two counts

of fleeing and eluding and causing death,

following a police chase and crash.

The resulted in the death of two 10-year-old Milwaukee brothers

and injuries to four other individuals late Wednesday.

The incident began with deputies attended

the stop of speeding vehicle without license plates,

leading to a pursuit that ended in a crash in Delafield.

The driver 29-year-old man had to warrant

for a felony gun charge.

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department

of the State Department of State Patrol

are investigating.

When people in Racine and Kenosha voted,

they said weed should be legal.

Now, Racine Representative and Speaker Robyn Boss

is talking about moving a little further

in that direction by the plan to reintroduce

a medical marijuana bill next month.

It would limit the consumption

to pill and oil form.

Wisconsin residents spent over $121 million

on marijuana from legal retailers

in Illinois last year,

contributing about $36 million in tax revenue to that state.

And there are new 14 new officers on their way

to the streets of Racine.

The police department is congratulating those

who just graduated from the police academy.

The 14 will now move on to the field training.

Despite a referendum rejection

that would have raised taxes to add more officers,

the city made some changes and boosted incentives.

Many of the officers hired replace staff that left.

Kenosha residents did approve a public safety referendum

and recently welcomed 10 officers out of the academy.

And those are the news headlines

we're watching in our new centers

to where Jay Wattles manning all the news today.

And you'll hear him throughout the day

right here at WRJN updating stories

and telling you what's going on.

It's 6.55 at WRJN, the weather forecast for today.

We got some rain in the forecast

for the high-tier 45 rain tonight.

Close around 40 tomorrow,

cloudy chance of rain again with a high-tier 46.

And Christmas Day,

don't get the messenger in trouble here.

Rain-likely, but a high-tier 50.

Right now it's 44 degrees in cloudy at 6.56 at WRJN radio.

Well, Jamie Kelly's Christmas decorations.

Pretty simple this year.

His neighbor in suburban Detroit

went all out with lights or Jamie used some plywood

and a few string lights to form the word ditto

with an arrow pointing to the home next door.

That's what I should do.

Our neighbors do a good decoration for the holidays.

And some of it's on our property.

So I just kind of take credit for it and say,

yes, we did a nice decoration this year.

The website quickserveys.com did a poll

to find out how naughty and nice we have been.

It covers everything from dating habits to politics.

Most of the nice things we asked about

were kind of boring, although 28% have donated their time.

31% donated money.

60% did at least one random act of kindness.

50% claimed they never last

downed anyone over the election.

That's hard not to do, huh?

Here are six naughty things that we did.

There was a little more interesting.

17% of people unfriended someone on Facebook over the elections

and any politics out there.

16% lied about voting.

And I actually didn't vote at all.

A third of people in relationships look right

through the other person's phone and internet history.

That's not nice.

26% of people found something that didn't belong to them

and they kept it.

17% found a wallet, a purse or a bag

and did return it, but stole something out of it first.

That's terrible.

59% of us pretended to be sick to get out of something

we didn't want to do.

I was trying to think if I did that.

I did not.

20% of people admitted the gossiping about a close friend

and 12% lied on their resume or to job interview.

You know, in radio, it's tough to lie.

What you do is in radio.

You just put that on all the call letters you worked at.

It's really easy to find out.

They just call the radio station or they can look it up online.

But I've never had anybody lie.

I had one guy when I worked here as a matter of fact

before this years ago and he was applying for an announcing job.

And on our job application, it said,

are you a felon?

Are you convicted felon?

They checked off.

Yes.

And I called HR.

Am I allowed to ask him what that was?

And I guess they said yes because I asked him.

He told me anyway.

I didn't have to really ask him.

I said, you checked this off?

He said, yeah.

I think he said he robbed somebody at gunpoint.

Something like that.

He said, oh, really?

I think you're an ideal candidate to work here.

Oh, look at this.

There's something else wrong in your history.

But when somebody tells you something like that,

I mean,

how do you say, yeah, you're perfect.

Let's find a job for you here.

Hey, we're going to talk about that live activity

seeing at the corner of that,

the first church of God at the corner of

Lathrop and Victory Avenue coming up at just a moment.

I'm Don Rose.

I don't want to thank you.

But join us here at WRJN.
