The Don Rosen Show · Thu Dec 14, 2023

Oh, we have the basketball playoffs and the hockey playoffs happening.

I always love, whenever there's a best of seven series, because then I get to hear my favorite sports reporter question.

Would you consider this a must-win game?

Yeah.

They always feel like they have to say yes.

Yeah, we want to win it.

It's very important, you know.

We've got our uniforms on anyway.

Anyway, must we'll try?

But it's not always the right answer, man.

It's a math question.

I wish I would answer that question honestly.

It's a best of seven.

You're down one game to nothing.

Would you consider this a must-win game?

No.

No, we can lose tonight.

We can lose tomorrow night, too.

We don't want to, but that wasn't your question.

You asked if it was a must-win game.

And if you'd ever taken a rudimentary math class,

you'd already know the magic numbers three when you're down three, then you must win them or you're out.

We can lose the lovely weather, we'll stay right together.

You ain't doing anything to me.

You ain't doing anything to me.

You ain't doing anything to me.

You ain't doing anything to me.

I'll check on NYS and go to the end.

I'll be in the end, I'll be in the only way.

You ain't doing anything to us.

We'll pop together like a bird, not a man who could be here.

We'll take a trophy for a save.

We'll take a chorus, but just feel it, feel it, feel it.

It's a lovely weather, we'll stay right together.

You ain't doing anything to me.

You ain't doing anything to me.

You ain't doing anything to me.

You ain't doing anything to me.

You ain't doing anything to me.

You ain't doing anything to me.

I'll check the NYS and go to the end.

I'll be in the only way.

You ain't doing anything to us.

We'll pop together like a bird, not a man who could be here.

You ain't doing anything to me.

You ain't doing anything to us.

We'll take a chorus, but just feel it, feel it.

It's a lovely weather, we'll stay right together.

You ain't doing anything to me.

Good morning at WRJN Radio at 709.

Looking for a sun shining day today with a high-tier 49 degrees.

Same exact forecast tomorrow.

By the way, clear tonight, lows around 34.

Chance of rain and clouds on Saturday with a high-tier 45 and partly sunny Sunday

with a high-tier 44.

Right now 32 degrees, it's sunny.

Ah, yes, cue the horse.

Sound like a real horse, eh?

Okay.

Thanks for joining us here this morning.

My guest had a reschedule this morning.

Your car wouldn't start.

A battery died.

Triple A had to be called.

An emergency.

And so we'll reschedule Debbie Hamlet, who's the general manager of PBS in Milwaukee.

We'll get her on next week and say, well, my questions for next week.

I'm sure it'll be good.

It's 7-10 right now.

And I mentioned earlier today about nostalgia at Christmas time.

And they did a survey on what were most nostalgic about a Christmas time.

Spending time with loved ones came out number one, decorating the tree.

Number two, holiday lights number three, holiday music, holiday movies, baking cookies,

cooking holiday meals, receiving a holiday card and vintage decorations.

My question to you is, what are you nostalgic about a Christmas time?

What did you bring from your childhood onto your adulthood?

You still do.

Same traditions.

Give us a call.

Two, six, two, six, three, four, nine, seven, five, six.

That's two, six, two, six, three, four, WRJN.

Let's call it.

What are you nostalgic about a Christmas time?

Maybe a movie.

A lot of people like to gather around the fireplace.

It's a wonderful life.

That didn't become popular, though, on TV.

Until this, I think the eighties, when they discovered it was in the public domain

and every TV station can air it up to that, nobody aired the movie on television.

Now it's back in theaters occasionally and they also show it on TV.

Now it's not in the public domain anymore because they copyrighted the soundtrack to the film.

And therefore only NBC or NBC stations can run it.

But a lot of people have it on DVD or Blu-ray or VHS or whatever in their memory.

So you're nostalgic about Christmas movies.

What are you nostalgic about?

Two, six, two, six, three, four, nine, seven, five, six, two, six, two, six, three, four, WRJN is our phone number to call.

We'll take some of your phone calls this morning.

Get a bad gift to ever.

What are some of the bad gifts you ever got from somebody?

I'll be honest, I never received a bad gift in my life.

I received gifts that I really didn't need, but they were never bad.

I never got a bad gift.

I was talking about some of these gifts people received, you know,

like a roll of saran wrap, roasted grasshoppers,

coupon from a grocery store.

I never, I never got a bad gift like that.

But if you did let us know what some of the nicest gifts you ever got.

Let us know that too.

Two, six, two, six, three, four, WRJN.

Two, six, two, six, three, four, nine, seven, five, six, it's seven, eleven now.

What's the maximum amount of time you can stay in someone's home as a guest before it gets annoying?

Four days, according to a new poll.

Here's some more quick stats on those holiday house guests hosting messes with your,

what does that say?

Hosting messes with your sleep.

The average host loses two and a half hours of sleep a night in the days leading up to it.

Oh, it messes with the host's sleep.

I get, yeah, I get to get guests.

Don't sleep well either 75% of us feel we have to go to bed and wake up at the same time as the host,

even if we're jet lagged.

And seven percent of people hide their valuables when they have guests in the house just to make sure nothing gets stolen.

That's pretty bad.

And you can't trust your guest.

But I think I would do that too.

I like this story.

A guy filmed his grandmother taking notes while watching Marvel movies.

You know why?

Because you wanted to talk about the movies with her 13 grandchildren.

I think that's wonderful.

I like that idea.

Guy named Indonesia, who makes coffins, became an instant millionaire when a meteorite,

the size of a football crashed to his roof.

He sold a meteorite for $1.8 million.

Why can't anything crash to my roof like that?

For $1.8 million, I'll let the crash occur.

I'll get the roof fixed and, well, $1.8 million, I'll probably move.

Here's your early Christmas present.

You don't have to call your relatives this year.

Survey found 45 percent of people say they don't want to talk on the phone on Christmas anymore.

They'll just text them every Christmas how you're doing.

You know, I still didn't fill out my Christmas cards yet.

I'm going to do it today because I still like getting Christmas cards and sending them.

Guess how many Christmas cards I got this year?

Zero.

I usually get one from the card dealership where I bought my card.

They don't even send the Christmas cards out anymore.

I used to get back in the 90s, I'll say.

I mean, 80s and 90s.

I used to be able to fill up the wall in my apartment when I had an apartment.

Fill up the wall with Christmas cards all over the door, the walls,

which is loaded with Christmas cards.

In my house last year, I was able to put a few on the door frame.

This year, haven't received one, not one Christmas card.

I mean, it's okay.

People tend to say on Facebook now they put Merry Christmas everybody and that's their Christmas card to the world.

Merry Christmas everyone.

I still like Christmas cards.

I haven't gotten one this year boohoo, but I haven't sent any either,

which I plan on doing today.

I have to get them out there today or they won't get there on time.

So we have so many Christmas cards at home that I have to fill out and send out.

But there's one person, I used to work here as a friend of mine.

I always got a Christmas card from him every year and he moved to Arizona years and years ago,

a couple of decades ago.

This year, I didn't get one.

And I think I sent him one last year.

Hmm.

Do you like that?

You only send a Christmas card out to someone who gives you a Christmas card?

I mean, somebody's buying the Christmas cards and selling them because home marks not out of business.

The home marks still making lots and lots of money.

7.15, 7.16 now at WRG and Radio, I'm Don Rose in a survey.

Came up with the top things guests find annoying when they visit your home.

You ready?

When the host is texting instead of talking to them.

I mean, that's kind of rude everywhere.

Not enough toilet paper.

That's dangerous.

You should check that before you enter the bathroom.

When the host engages in public displays of affection, being left alone for too long,

not being offered a drink, getting stuck outside in the cold with no one answering the door,

fighting off the pets, not introduced to strangers, I guess other people at your home.

When it's too hot or too cold, being told to take off your shoes, it happens a lot.

I don't know what to tell you.

Being forced to play a board game.

That happens at my house all the time, just with me and my wife.

Although, you know what?

She always forces me to play at the end.

I always have a good time playing.

The average person who doesn't stick to their holiday budget ends up spending $218 more than they plan to.

The most common reason we go over budget is by trying to buy the perfect gift for someone.

For getting to include people on your list, they end up buying extra stuff at the last minute.

And buying things for yourself while you're shopping for other people.

49% of people have done that.

Not me.

When I go out to buy something, I know when I'm targeted to buy and I buy it.

Or if I go into a certain department, I know there's something in there.

I'll buy.

Sorry, I've found 81% of us plan to eat healthier during the holidays this year.

70% of us have no plans to actually do it.

Yeah, that's tough during the holidays to demand to yourself.

I'm going to eat healthy this year.

You know, that's not going to work out.

A study found people will be willing to pay an average of $7,751 to live one extra year of their life.

That means we're willing to pay $21 to stay alive.

That's $21 a day.

Doesn't sound like we're that interested in staying alive.

That's $21 a day, does it?

No.

Our forecast today's sunshine for the 149 degrees.

A clear sky tonight.

Lows around 34.

You might catch a falling star tonight.

You never know.

Tomorrow sunny with the 149 Saturday.

Clotty chance of rain.

145 in the Outlook for Sunday.

The last shopping weekend before Christmas.

Partly sunny and a high near 44.

Actually, it's not next the week after.

It's the next last one.

I shouldn't say that because Christmas is on a Monday this year.

It's 718 at WRG and I'm Don Rosen.

I want to thank you for joining us today.

If you're waiting for our guest, Debbie Hamlet.

General manager of PBS Milwaukee.

She'll be here next week.

She has a car problem this morning.

Couldn't make it.

We forgive.

We forgive.

It's 719 now at WRG.

Have a holiday, Jolly Christmas.

It's the best time of the year.

I don't know if there'll be snow.

But have a cup of cheer.

Have a holiday, Jolly Christmas.

And when you walk down the street.

Say hello to friends you know.

And every one you meet.

Oh, oh, the mistletoe.

I'm where you can see.

Somebody waits for you.

Kisser wants for me.

Have a holiday, Jolly Christmas.

And occasion doesn't appear.

Oh, bye, Golly.

Have a holiday, Jolly Christmas.

This year.

Have a holiday, Jolly Christmas.

It's the best time of the year.

This year.

That's burlives.

A holiday, Jolly Christmas burlives.

An Academy Award winning actor.

Yes, right.

He, I think was 1958 or 59.

He starred in a movie called The Big Country with Gregory Peck.

And he was the bad guy.

He was the bad guys in films.

He's hard to believe when you hear him sing these songs.

And he was the, I'm trying to think he was Chuck Conner's father in the film.

But he won the Academy Award Best Supporting Actor for The Big Country.

He was in a lot of big movies with big stars.

And I guess he's most famous for some of those rank and bass animated Christmas shows.

Like Rudolph the Red Nose reindeer, Frosty the snowman, all those type of.

I don't think he was in Frosty, but he was in Rudolph the Red Nose reindeer.

And that's what it became famous for.

He was a musician.

He did play the guitar.

There's a movie called Summer Magic came out in 1963 with Haley Mills, a Walt Disney movie,

where he actually had some songs that were records after that from that movie's Summer Magic.

So he did play the guitar and he did sing.

And he was a good actor to burlives.

Big heavy guy, big burly guy.

That's where he got the name.

Burl was his real name, but he was burly.

723 at WRJN radio.

If you want to call up this morning, you can 262634975626263634WRJN.

Any Christmas nostalgia memories you want to mention?

Think you did when you were small that you either wish were back again.

Or maybe you made them part of your traditional Christmas over the years.

It was called Love to Hear Some of Them.

Mine are the holiday lights.

I never had them as a kid, but I used to love watching them on other people's houses.

As a matter of fact, we were driving yesterday during the daylight.

And I said to my wife, we have to come to this block.

This block and we're seeing because I know they do great Christmas decorations.

So maybe we'll do that maybe tonight.

Take your drive.

Yeah.

724 at WRJN radio.

All right.

Let's see what else we have for you.

You got a lot of stuff here this morning.

Do you see, do you keep a secret stash of money hidden somewhere your partner doesn't know about?

Like your wife or your husband.

So it's a lot more common than you think.

37% of people say they have a secret stash of money.

And they're hiding an average of $2006.

No, no secret stash for me.

My wife doesn't have a secret stash either that I know about.

No, she doesn't.

I'm sure.

I'm pretty sure.

There are people for their favorite things that happen at work during the holidays.

Number one, getting time off and not having to go to work.

Well, then it's not at work.

If you don't go to work, it's not your favorite thing at work.

Only 34% look forward to that holiday bonus.

Only 33% look forward to the company holiday party.

This is the first year in years and I'm going to a company party this weekend.

Civic media is having your big blow out this weekend.

Can't wait to go.

There's a lot of people in this company.

I don't know.

I know a couple of people in this company, but it'd be interesting to see because there are

I think 12 radio stations we own around Wisconsin.

And I don't know anybody at the other radio stations.

I know the people at this stage and the people I deal with.

But yeah, I'm interested in meeting some new people.

Six out of 10 people say they're very worried about porch pirates stealing their packages during

the holidays.

And I was thinking, I remember when they used to knock on your door for a UPS package or

FedEx package, remember you had a sign for it.

Remember they wouldn't drop it over.

They leave a message saying they'll be back again because there was no one home.

Those days are done.

Just toss the package right on your porch now.

And if you have a ring camera, you'll know it's there.

If you don't have a ring camera, maybe you won't know.

Now, this happened two times already.

The UPS person delivered an Amazon package on my neighbor's porch instead of mine.

Two times that happened.

The address is correct on the package.

I don't know why he would drop it off on their porch because he wasn't home either.

But it happened.

Anyway, I'm not worried about porch pirates.

I'm worried about, you know, I guess so.

I never had anybody steal anything.

You know what I'm really surprised at.

Some of these big elaborate things they have on people's lawns for Christmas time.

How they don't get vandalized.

I mean, I'm happy they don't.

I'm just surprised they don't.

And that's really neat that they have these big giants and people don't bother them.

And that's the way it should be.

Leave them alone.

I want to give a survey of a thousand Americans here.

The top 12 conversation topics you should not bring up at dinner or the holiday parties.

Your sex life or anybody else's for that matter.

Asking people about their income, openly talking about your money, religion, politics,

Facebook or online dating profiles.

How many Facebook friends or Twitter followers you have?

Don't talk about death during holiday party either or your health issues.

And everybody's got their own health issues.

They don't want to hear about yours.

So keep those under wraps.

And never talk about the amount of Christmas music people play on the radio radio stations

because everyone's got a different opinion on that.

All right, the holiday parties.

That seems to be our theme this morning.

The 10 words things you could do at a holiday party show up sick.

If you have a bed cold or the flu or COVID for that matter, don't go.

Ask for food or a type of drink that isn't already out.

Be the last one to leave.

Get too drunk.

Show up early.

Be on your phone all night.

Talk about politics too much.

Showing up without RSVPing.

Spelling something and not bringing food if it's a potluck dinner.

I would hope you wouldn't show up if you say you're not going to show up.

That's just plain rude.

22% of people say they've fallen asleep at work.

The average nap lasts 47 minutes.

Most people are likely to take one on Wednesdays.

And women most likely to take more than men.

You can do what George Costanza did on Seinfeld.

Remember that episode.

He built that little copy underneath his desk.

Remember that?

He built a whole little look.

So we can sleep for the shelf with the alarm clock and everything.

God bless George Costanza from Seinfeld.

It's 728 at WRJN.

We'll check the news headlines coming up in just a moment put together

by Stuart J. Wattles in our news center this morning.

That's all straight ahead.

At WRJN radio, a civic media station, home town radio,

refreshed at 1400 AM, 99.9 FM, 98.1 FM in Kenosha.

The gifts they saved the bow is off of all.

You never have a reason either.

It's always, well, I ain't ever known.

Okay, mom, preparing for that Soviet bow and bargo, yeah.

Cuban ribbon blockade, she's got it.

You got good gifts now.

When you're a kid, you'd have no idea what to get your dad.

Dad's got the shaft.

Up until you turn 18, you got no concept of what to get your old man.

Your dad's unwrapping your gift.

You're 10 years old.

You don't know what to do.

He's trying to sound excited, you know.

Oh, thanks, Jeff.

Duraflame log.

Maybe next year we can get a fireplace.

Oh, holy night, the stars are brightly shining.

It is the night of our dear Savior's birth.

Long live the world, insin' their pining, till he appeared.

And the soul felt its will.

A thrill of hope.

The weary world rejoices.

Where yonder breaks.

A new and glorious moment.

Hold on your knees.

O hear the angel voices.

O night, divine.

O night, when Christ was born.

O night, divine.

O night.

That's Celine Dion.

And that was the not her version, but a holy night was the very first song ever played on radio.

That's right.

It was a holy night on Christmas Eve in 1906 on an experimental radio station.

They turned on the transmitter and played a holy night.

They didn't say which version, though.

I'm sure it was, they have records in 1906.

I assume they did anyway.

Well, that's Celine Dion's version of a holy night.

And that's one of our Christmas odd but truths we have for you this morning.

It's a tradition in Japan to EKFC for Christmas.

Orders have to replace two months in advance.

That's not a bad tradition.

In 1980, the hottest toy of the Christmas season was the Rubik's Cube, which caused $1.99.

That retails for $10.

It's still a decent gift, though.

And the 12 days of Christmas is about the 12 days after Christmas, not before.

They end on January 6, which is a holiday called the feast of epiphany.

Is that how you say that?

Okay.

I didn't know that.

I thought it was the 12 days before.

You live and learn on this program.

It gives you the stat to your kids.

When you get them nothing for Christmas, I'm sure they'll understand.

A study found most children will only play with the maximum of 20 toys.

Any more than that is overkill.

So see your kids react to that.

There are some tips to keep you safe during the holidays.

Coordinate with your neighbors if you're driving, if you're having packages delivered,

so they're not sitting out for hours.

If your tree is on display next to an open window, don't put presents underneath it until Christmas day

and make an emergency plan for what to do with fire breaks out anywhere in your home.

Can happen.

Can happen in Christmas time.

Okay.

Let's talk about our guests coming up for the rest of the week and next week.

Tomorrow, Mike Pino.

He's the publisher of Our Wisconsin Magazine.

The new issues out.

We'll talk about that with Mike.

Brett Hoffman in tomorrow to talk about the movies coming out for the rest of the year.

And Mike Clemens will be here to talk about sports at 750 this morning.

Next week, it's a full lineup of guests.

Angela Speed will be here from the Wisconsin Humane Society on Monday morning.

On Tuesday morning, Sergeant Christie Wilcox from the Racine Police Department will be here in studio

talking about holiday safety.

Pete Chihuahua, who has a brand new show on civic media.

We're going to talk to him.

Very funny guy.

And a movie director.

He directed the Godfather of Green Bay.

We'll talk to him about that.

Thursday, Todd Clark from WIAA.

That's the Wisconsin Internal Scholastic Athletes Association for Wisconsin.

He's been there for years.

And he's going to talk about high school sports.

That's Thursday at 7 a.m. Friday at 7 a.m.

Eric Goodwin's going to be here now.

He's going to talk about the Nativity scene at the first church of God, which is just a few blocks from here.

It's at the corner of Lathrop and Victory Avenue.

And they have a live Nativity scene.

And when I say live animals and everything, people, animals.

And it's only on, it's going to be Friday night on the 22nd of December.

And Eric Goodwin puts it together every year.

And he's going to be talking to us and tell us all about this year's Nativity scene.

That's all next week.

So we got a full week of guests.

That sounds pretty good to me.

Here's a little thing people don't know about.

The Nativity, I don't know if they still do it.

But Radio City Music Hall, New York City.

It was a movie theater when I was growing up.

And you just go there to see movies.

You got the Rockets.

You got a Circus Act and an organ recital along with the movie.

It was very good.

It was a nice three hours of entertainment.

They used to do the Nativity scene at Christmas time.

That was their big Christmas show, the Rockets and the Nativity.

And they used live animals on there.

And I saw it once.

And I got to tell you, it will blow you away if you ever see something like that.

They had these march of animals coming across the stage.

It was like an endless march of camels and sheep and all these animals.

And it wound up on this most beautiful Nativity scene.

It was breathtaking to see.

Now, you have to exercise the animals by law.

You kick him locked up backstage at Radio City Music Hall.

So here's something people don't know.

But I'll tell you what they do when they didn't have Nativity.

And I don't know if they still do it.

But when they did it at about four o'clock in the morning,

they marched the animals around Rockefeller Center outside to get exercise.

The camels, the sheep, the goats, the horses, everything.

They had a big line of them circling Radio City Music Hall and Rockefeller Center

to get them some exercise.

So they weren't cooped backstage all day long and all night long.

They did it at 4 AM because there's no traffic in Manhattan at that hour.

But if you were lucky enough and you knew about it,

go to Rockefeller Center.

Therefore you're locked in the morning and watch the animals parade around.

And it was a long, it went on for a long period of time.

I have a DVD of Christmas at Rockefeller Center.

I don't know if they have it on there or not.

I'm not sure.

But they have stables and everything backstage at Radio City Music Hall

because they have to put the animals somewhere.

I mean, they have camels and goats and sheep and everything.

So they had stable set up backstage.

It must have been great for the rockets.

What a dressing room had a goat in there.

But it was, if he was, you know, got up early in the morning in New York City.

You could see the animals parade around.

This happened every day for about a month.

They would do it.

The folks at IBM posted a bunch of tips to help make sure your identity doesn't get stolen.

If you shop online, here are some things you may have heard of some of these before.

But in case you didn't, don't let websites save your information for future purchases.

Be careful about emails that include coupon codes or links to deals.

Never use your work email as your username or on-stores websites.

If the wrong person gets your work email and password, your company can get hacked.

And look out for fake package tracking emails over the next few weeks.

Experts think there will be a flood of them.

And if you click the links, the hackers will have access to your computer and financial information.

I get that every day.

How many spam messages do you get a day?

UPS couldn't deliver.

Click here to make sure we have the right information.

I get that FedEx, UPS, your account to whatever has expired.

Please click this link to make sure it continues.

Well, 9 out of 10 times, I don't even have an account that expired to that place.

And FedEx and UPS will not send you an email telling you to click somewhere to make sure your packages get there on time.

Don't fall for that stuff.

I worked at a radio station and they sent an email out.

And somebody at the radio station clicked on the link.

And a few months later, everything in the radio station got wiped out.

All there on air stuff because somebody clicked on a link with a timer on it.

And everything was gotten, the music library, everything.

Commercials wiped out.

The station was off the air for a couple of days until they get something on.

Because somebody clicked on a link.

Nobody fast up to it, but somebody did it.

And that's right.

I haven't wiped out the whole radio station.

So don't click on links if you don't know what you're clicking.

Okay.

And the topic is Christmas facts.

Are you ready for this?

Let's have some fun with this one.

Santa Claus ran for president in 2012 through false.

He did a guy in Nevada named Thomas O'Connor illegally changed his name to Santa Claus

and ran for president.

The first artificial Christmas tree was embedded by Thomas Edison.

Falls, the first fake trees were sold in Germany in the late 1800s.

They were made of feathers and highly flammable.

People used to put candles on their Christmas tree.

I mean, we look at that today and say, what are you crazy?

But back in the 1800s before electric lights, that's what they did.

The holiday special, how the Grinch stole Christmas has a prequel.

True.

It's called Halloween is Grinch night aired on ABC in 1977, even won an Emmy award.

The title was shortened to its Grinch night for the VHS version in 1992.

In the 12 days of Christmas, the singer talks about getting gifts on 12 different days.

If you add them all up, you get a total of 364 presents.

That's true because they get 11 of the gifts multiple times,

including a parkers and a pear tree, 12 days in a row, 12 drummers drum.

He's the only gift.

They get once 740.

And radio.

Let's check that weather forecast sunny with a high near 49 degrees today.

Clear tonight lows around 34 Sunday tomorrow with a high near 49 Saturday.

Clowny chance of rain highs near 45.

Not a big chance around.

I think it's 30 or 40% and Sunday partly sunny with a high near 44 degrees.

Let's check those news headlines put together by Stuart J Wattles in our news center this morning.

One former Kenosha Unified School Board member says the district could have asked taxpayers for more money

instead of closing schools.

The board made a final decision this week.

The close five elementary schools and Lincoln Middle School while reducing staff at Ruther Central.

The move came after a couple of hours of community feedback, mostly negative.

The decision also involves relocating students from Washington Middle School to the Bane Building.

Some are noting that several of the unified buildings set to close just had a proof and made, including new windows installed at many locations.

Your local police is likely boosting holiday patrols.

Most law enforcement departments are getting started up with their drive sober or get pulled over campaign.

Increasing patrols to deter impaired driving and ensure public safety.

Every two hours someone is killed or injured in an impaired driving crash in Wisconsin with 400 crashes involving impaired drivers last year alone.

Amtrak's Hyawathaline, connecting Milwaukee and Stardament to Chicago is undergoing a significant change.

They were eliminating that monthly pass and introducing only a 10 ride pass.

This change has resulted in a cost increase for daily commuters to and from Chicago almost doubling their expensive Amtrak claims.

The Hyawathaline was never intended for commuter use.

The Lake County Courthouse Office confirmed the identity of a body found in the search for a missing teenage girl.

17-year-old Brissa Romero's body was recovered from Vernon Hills retention pond where her vehicle was also found.

Police believe the car was accidentally driven into the pond preliminary autopsy results indicate her death was consistent with drowning.

She was reported missing while in route to a holiday party at a bowling alley in Vernon Hills.

A woman driving an SUV that crashed into the back of a cement truck in Kenosha County yesterday will be okay.

Despite being initially thought to have life threatening injuries, she was later found to be in stable condition and held at a hospital for observation.

The woman was flown to Milwaukee after hitting the truck at Highway 50 and P.

Traffic in the area rerouted for a couple of hours.

Those are the new stories we're checking and watching for you in the new setter.

Stuart J. Wattles doing all that our news director will have updates for you throughout the day right here at WRJN Radio.

I'm Don Rosen. I want to thank you for joining us on this beautiful Sun Shiny morning.

It's 32 degrees of very crisp morning at 748 at WRJN Radio.

All town radio refreshed a civic media station at 1400 am 99.9 FM and received 98.1 FM Kenosha.

Thank you.

I think a lot of the media outlets are irresponsible. It's all shock value, it's all ratings.

You think they could stop putting these experts on the news with their doomsday scenarios of how the terrorists might attack us?

Because you get the sense that they're coming up with ideas that these people haven't thought of themselves.

You know Wolf, very few people know this, but there's actually an incredibly important atomic substation located right in O'Cala, Florida now.

It wouldn't be hard for them to find. I'll show you right here on the map, exactly where it is.

All it would say is a very small, explosive charge place in this exact spot right here.

I mean, even a firecracker would do it well for a bottle rocket.

I mean, you could smear an egg McMuffin right in this spot and do it.

There's only one security guard there. His name's Bob and he's a bit of a boozer.

So imagine the average of me right now.

I don't want a lot for Christmas. There is just one thing I need.

I don't care about the presents underneath the Christmas tree.

I just want you for my own, more than you could ever know.

Make my wish come true.

All I want for Christmas is you.

I don't want a lot for Christmas. There is just one thing I need.

I don't care about the presents underneath the Christmas tree.

I don't need to spend my stuff underneath the Christmas tree.

I just want you for my own, more than you could ever know.

Make my wish come true.

All I want for Christmas is you.

You, baby, oh, I don't ask for much Christmas.

I won't even wish for snow.

I just want to keep on waiting.

Oh, I miss so soon.

I will take the list and send it to the North Pole for a city.

I won't even stay up waiting too long.

Imagine praying this way, because I just want you here tonight.

Oh, I want to miss so tight, what can I do?

Oh, baby, oh, I don't want for Christmas is you.

You, baby, oh, I don't ask for snow.

I just want you for my own, more than you could ever know.

I just want you for my own, more than you could ever know.

And everyone is sick now.

I feel like I'm playing it.

And I want to play it.

I won't even wish for snow.

You, baby, oh, I don't want for Christmas is you.

You, baby, oh, I don't ask for snow.

I just want you for my own, more than you could ever know.

You, baby, oh, I don't ask for snow.

Someone is in trouble in Russia.

Someone's in big, big trouble.

Vladimir Putin was giving a speech on TV.

The works underneath them appeared.

Don't run for president.

I guess somebody hacked into it.

Someone's in trouble.

Someone's going to be drinking some poison soon, I guess.

Yeah.

Could you imagine?

Here's this guy who's probably got the biggest ego in the entire world.

He's a dictator is what he is, Putin.

Anyway, so don't run for president.

The period boy is giving a speech on TV.

When he runs for president, it's always a hundred percent for him.

You live in that kind of world.

All right, here's some mind tricks to help you spend less during the holidays.

I know it's hard.

Leave the credit cards at home and go cash only.

That's very hard.

Shop by yourself instead of with friends.

Shop alone.

The more people you bring along, the easier it becomes to impulse by.

I'm an impulse buyer.

Here are some random new stats on Christmas.

We take the average parents $1,400 by everything on their kids Christmas list.

3% of Americans who celebrate Christmas won't be exchanging gifts this year.

All these 62% of people will go to church for Christmas.

6% of people say they'd rather be alone in the desert at home.

But with their family on Christmas, come on.

You don't really mean that.

Yeah, those Christmas gifts, you know, I haven't purchased gifts for kids.

My daughter's in her 40s, so obviously a long time.

But $1,400 and what if you have, you know, a lot of kids?

That's how people go into debt.

According to the survey, the things people dread most about staying with family during the holidays,

being woken up early, waiting in line to use the bathroom, arguments with relatives,

weird family traditions, sharing a room with a relative and accidentally seeing a family member,

naked.

If you want to get creative over the holidays, there are lots of recipes online that use actual snow as an ingredient.

And you use it to make things like peppermint, snow ice cream, maple candy, and hot cocoa slushies.

It's tough to do it when the highs get to be 49 degrees today.

That you really can't have much snow in your recipes.

I guess you can, you know, I don't know if they still make it, but I was a kid.

There was a snow cone machine, remember the snow cone machine?

They actually did a, an episode of King of Queens, where Kevin James gets a snow cone machine.

Used to put ice in there, crank it around and it made the snow.

I think that's where 7-11 got its idea for the slushie from the snow cone machine.

Hey, sunshine today with a hundred 49 degrees.

Clear tonight, lows around 34 sunny tomorrow with a hundred 49 cloudy Saturday.

Chance of rain and 30 40 percent.

A highs near 45 and Sunday partly sunny with a high near 44.

I incorrectly said before that this is the last shopping weekend before Christmas.

No, it's not.

I think Christmas is on a Monday, right?

Yeah.

There's plenty of time to shop for the holidays.

All right.

I'm Don Rose and I catch you tomorrow morning.
