those are the Ron ads with the Phil Specter
of sound. Now I mentioned that
from time to time. Phil Specter
wall of sound. And what somebody
said to me, what are you talking
about the wall of sound?
All right, that was a production
style that only Phil Specter
have with all his groups. He had
the with the crystals. He had it
with the Ron ads and darling
love all his groups. It was a
production style that is characterized
by its diffusion of tone colors
and dense orchestral sound.
It was called the Phil Specter
wall of sound. Now Phil Specter
was one of the biggest producers
in rock and roll radio at rock and
roll music rather in the radio
too in the 1960s. I mean, his
groups all shot to number one of
the charts hit after hit after hit.
And then tragedy struck. He was
convicted of murder. And I'm trying
to look for the exact case. It had
to do with somebody a woman who was
living at his house. I'm trying to
get out of here. Yeah. Um, it was
convicted of murder in 2003 of
actress Lana Clarkson. He was sent
into 19 years to life in prison.
He died in prison in 2021. But
what a genius when he came to
music. Unfortunately, he was
crazy toward the end. They said
he was on drugs and, you know,
he was losing his mind there at
the end. And
when Phil Specter, you see him
briefly. The I there's only one
acting job. I know he did. He played
the pusher in the movie easy
writer at the very beginning of
the film when they play the song
the pusher. And I think Dennis
Hopper and Peter Fonda buying
drugs from someone out of a car.
That's that's Phil Specter.
That's the only acting world I
know that he did. But, um, all
right. There you go. Phil Specter
wall of sound. Let's do some great
music. But he's a killer. Okay,
let's talk about something more
Christmasy now. Are you one of
these people that's got to have
a real Christmas tree? All right,
real Christmas tree shoppers
fall into six categories based
on when they buy their real
Christmas tree. Now the early
birds put it up before Thanksgiving.
I know a lot of people do
because when I'm dropping that
in my neighborhood, you can see
through the window that the
Christmas tree is up with the lights
on it. The people who buy their
tree over Black Friday weekend.
A lot of people do that. The
seasonal purists who get a tree
first weekend of December. Then
there's a people who wait until
the second week of December,
which would be this week. The
people who put it off until the
third week of December. And then
you got the Christmas Eve
tradition list. They put it up on
Christmas Eve. I was out those
people never got a really their
money's worth out of the tree. You
put it up Christmas Eve.
Why do you leave it up for a week
till New Year's day and then you
take it down again? Why would you
do that? I know a lot of people
do. By the way, I'd friends in my
neighborhood was growing up. It
was Christmas Eve. They decorated
the tree who Christmas Eve. They
gave out the presents Christmas
here. Everything was done. So
Christmas morning. Oh, finished.
But that's tradition in some
families. This year we didn't
set up a tree in my house. We
alternated. This year my wife
set up this beautiful Christmas
village. We have these ceramic,
you know, the village homes.
And she she took a table. And by
the way, I was sleeping when all
this went on. She got a very
early like four o'clock in the
morning and rolled at this giant
thing of cotton for snow.
Set up the Christmas village. All
the houses light up with moving
parts in them. She put little
cars and little things all over
the cotton. And they woke up.
And it was gorgeous. I took a
picture of it. One morning before
I came into the office because
the house was dark except for
that the Christmas village. She
set up. It looks like a real
village. You can't tell from the
picture I took. I mean, if you
blow it up and look closely,
you'll see the people of fake.
Looks like the twilight zone fake
big, big people. But other than
that, she did a great job. So we
did that. We have the reeds hang
on up all over the house.
And my neighbor sets up a beautiful
light display. Now it's partly on my
property. So I kind of point to
people and say, I hope we did this
year. He sets up this gorgeous light
display. But since it's on my
property somewhat, which is fine.
I love it. It gives the image that
the roses are. Wow, look at the
roses said this year. Wow.
Their next door neighbors are
mooching off them by having half
on their property. So that's what we
did this year. My son bought some
stuff and for like $5 and put it up
on the property. It's solar stuff
that lights up when he gets dark
outside. I'm thinking of putting
up our lit Christmas wreath this
year. I'll let you know it may be
Christmas Eve. I'll put it up.
But that's where the roses have
up. And we have some other
displays within house, which is
nice. And by the way, Hanukkah last
night was the fourth night of
Hanukkah. Tonight will be the fifth
night of Hanukkah. In case you're
counting, lighting that menorah and
keeping those candles lit.
And enjoy. Quants is coming up. I
think December 26th is quants of
this year. Pretty sure that's the
date. Yeah, that's the date.
December 26th. And Hanukkah is over
in four more days, I guess. Well
tonight's the fifth night of
Hanukkah. So you got counting
tonight, four more nights of
Hanukkah. A couple in Jacksonville
had a wedding wedding ceremony.
You know, where they had it
inside a car wash as their vehicle
was going through. They said
they were looking into real
wedding venues, but they didn't
want to spend that much money.
So they went for the basic
car wash for six bucks and went
through the car wash. And
they're married. You know,
sometimes, you know, it's if you
have the money, it's really great
to do a really, you know,
all-out wedding. If you have the
money, if you don't have the
money, it's nice to save it.
Not going to debt over your
wedding. And you know, just get
married. And when you have
enough money, throw a party.
Now, a lot of people have the
money. They can do it. A lot of
people don't have the money.
And there's nothing wrong with
that. Get married now.
And later, when you find the
money, have a big party.
Researchers have developed a
tool to determine if you're
addicted to your phone.
It includes a psychological
approach rather than just
measuring how many times you're
reached for your phone or the
time you spend on it.
They need to do a study to
find out if we're addicted to
our phones. Come on.
Of course, we are.
Walk around. Everybody's
holding their phone in their
hands.
Go to go to a movie theater
before the movie starts.
Everybody's on their cell
phones in the theater before
the movie starts. And they
hopefully shut it down.
Go to a restaurant.
Everybody's got their phone
sitting right.
You got your knife,
your fork, your spoon,
your phone right next to your
plate.
You tell I don't need to.
I can tell you they're addicted.
All right.
Survey found about one in three
people have bought some of
Christmas presents and then
decided.
Ah, it's too good for them.
I'll keep it for myself.
I don't think I've ever done that.
Now, I've purchased Christmas
presents. I wish I had,
but I did give them out.
I never did anything like that.
If I buy it for you,
you're getting it.
But sometimes I used to get
gift cards.
You'll see that's a $50
gift card to a restaurant.
I like.
Maybe I'll get them a $50
gift card to a restaurant.
I don't like.
It happens.
All right.
New Paul of America's
favorite Christmas carols.
Number one.
This is the most copyrighted
song in history.
Silent night.
White Christmas came in second.
White Christmas, by the way,
the biggest selling song
on record of all time.
Not just Christmas all time.
Think Rosby's White Christmas.
Jingle bells came out third
followed by O'Comeau.
You faithful joy to the world.
I'll be home for Christmas.
Have yourself a merry little
Christmas.
Rudolph the Red Nosed reindeer.
The little drummer boy.
And we wish you a merry Christmas.
Where's Mariah Carey on that list?
She didn't come out on that list.
The self-proclaimed Queen of Christmas.
Good song.
They just didn't make the list.
All right.
So what is a perfect Christmas?
Everybody wants that perfect Christmas.
And if they don't get it,
it's kind of a belly flop.
Like Christmas night the next day.
Because you know, we had somebody who
working here in the news department.
Carol Briggs.
And we'll probably get her for our
anniversary year coming up.
We're going to interview a lot of people
next year who used to work here.
I'm going to get try to get Carol.
I think she lives in Florida now.
Anyway, she once told me.
She said people get depressed because
they're hoping for the most perfect
Christmas.
And it doesn't happen.
Their expectations are so out of sight
that they can't possibly live up to it.
So here's the most perfect Christmas formula.
You wake up at 7.56 AM.
Christmas morning.
You got four inches of snow on the ground.
Seven presents under the tree.
Five movies to watch.
And you eat dinner at 2.33 PM.
Do that.
You'll be happy.
Five movies.
When I talk to Brett Hoffman on Friday,
I have to ask him why.
Christmas Day is one of the biggest
movie days of the year.
I remember once years ago, I had
Christmas over someone's house.
It's come on, we're going to the movies.
Don't you like sit around and, you know,
tell Christmas stories under, you know,
by the trees there, the lights are here.
And we just ate dinner.
Now go into the movies.
Everybody's going to win it.
Not everybody went to the same movie.
They got to the multiplex and spread out.
Amongst all the movies.
But yeah, Christmas Day.
I don't know why people don't want to hang
around the house on Christmas Day.
Yeah, they just want to, you know,
go to the movies.
Which is fun with me.
I love movies.
And a lot of big movies open up on Christmas Day as well.
If you're a parent,
the four gift rule could save you some time
and money this year.
It's where you buy your kids only for Christmas present.
One thing they want.
One thing they need.
One thing they'll wear.
And one thing they'll read.
I can think of three of those things.
They'll be thrown in the garbage.
A Christmas day.
Hey, for today,
becoming mostly sunny with a high-tiered 36 beautiful day.
Clear sky tonight.
Lose 29.
Sun shining tomorrow with a hundred thirty five.
I love it.
It's cloudy and 25 degrees.
Now, I am Don Rose and you're at civic media.
WRJN.
At 1,400 a.m. 99.9 in 98.1 FM.
Home town radio.
Refreshed.
Keep saying where we are.
More coming up.
Well, away up north where the air gets cold.
There's a tale about Christmas that you've all been told.
And real famous cat, all dressed up in red.
And he spends the whole year working out and his sled.
It's the loosing news.
It's the loosing news.
It's the loosing news.
Just a little box, let me call it a little thing.
But you walk into the fog and look the coast, be sting.
She can't be able to live with the ski porous wheel.
And the sun and hits the gas man.
Just watch him.
It's the loosing news.
It's the loosing news.
It's the loosing news.
It's the loosing news.
Run, run, rain, wind.
From 4th on, California, the Beach Boy, big sign there.
I can't say the name 4th on.
Hawthorne.
Hawthorne, for some reason.
I don't know, I'm trouble saying that.
I think announces can say anything.
No, we can't.
There are a couple of words I have trouble with.
Hawthorne is one of them.
That's where they're from.
The Beach Boy is, big plaque.
Right there.
I'm not when the Beach Boy's played summer fest in Milwaukee.
Not the amphitheater.
It wasn't built yet.
Everyone is staged.
It was free.
You just had to run in there and grab your bench seat.
And I saw the Beach Boy's on stage.
So I can say I saw the Beatles in concert,
the Beach Boy's in concert.
Never saw the Stones.
I still have a chance this year because they're going on tours
sponsored by AARP and that a kick, huh?
Becoming mostly sunny.
A gorgeous day today as we get ready for Christmas
and a high-tier 36 degrees.
Clowny, 25 right now.
I'm Don Rosen.
Thanks for joining us here at Civic Media's WRJN
hometown radio.
Refreshed.
All right, some more Christmas stories.
A whole bunch of things here.
Holiday stories to talk about this morning.
Dick Ruseffa from DG Sports is going to be here at 7 a.m.
this morning, actually, 706.
We're going to talk about high school sports.
Who won the big games?
Basketball underway now four games in,
but the high school football is all over.
Kind of has some a question.
Every day I pass, I think it's Lutheran high school
and they had a giant gymnasium put onto their school,
which ate up their whole football field.
So where do they play football?
Just curious.
I was going to call them and ask them.
And I thought they would say,
call security please.
Men want to know where the football field is.
So I didn't, I didn't call them and ask them.
Survey gave people a list of 10 stressful things about the holidays.
Shopping, decorating, wrapping gifts, spending time with your in-laws,
and the average person would pay $1,445 to make all that stress go away.
I don't think rap, I love wrapping presents.
Matter of fact, I'm a good rapper.
So my wife always gives me the presents to wrap
because I'm a good rapper.
Not rapper like hip hop rapper, but you know,
I rap presents very well.
So I do that.
I like doing that too.
Shopping, I like shopping if I know what I'm looking for.
They know I take that back because a lot of times I don't know what I'm looking for.
And I'll go to the stores and I'll look for ideas.
I have purchased things for my wife for the holidays
that I had no intention of buying, but I happened to be in the store.
One of them was the Blendjet a few years ago I got.
When it first came out, the Blendjet.
And she loved it.
I got to some nice things that she uses all the time,
but I didn't go to the store to get it.
I went on to look around.
So I take that back.
I do like shopping.
Spending time with in-laws, I wish I could.
My in-laws are gone, my parents are gone.
What I would give, I never met my father-in-law.
He passed away in 1976.
I never got to meet him.
I would love to have him show up.
So I can
meet my father-in-law.
Never got a chance to meet him.
So that wouldn't be stressful for me at all.
Decorating my wife does that.
Even if I decorated, she'd take it down and redo it.
I don't even make an attempt at it.
All right.
On a totally different topic, what's something you always say,
but rarely actually mean?
Here are a few of the big ones.
I'm fine.
And you know you say it when you know somebody said,
are you okay?
I'm fine.
And you know you're done.
Let's get together soon.
Yeah, no, that's a lie.
I'll definitely consider it.
You have no expectation of considering it.
And I'll just do it tomorrow.
You know it's not getting done tomorrow.
If it didn't get done today, it's not going to get done tomorrow.
When you were a kid, what did you think was the worst part of being an adult?
Here are some of the answers.
No summer, winter or spring breaks.
That's a reality in life.
You know your boss doesn't say, hey, you know what?
It's summertime.
Let's take the summer off.
Hey, it's Christmas time.
Let's take the month off.
Spring break.
Hey, all the employees, we're going to Fort Lauderdale this year.
That never happens.
Giving more presents than you get on Christmas.
That never happens.
And having to watch the news on TV every night.
You don't have to, but nice and I was going on all around you.
I like that.
Yeah.
Well, you imagine that kid getting a job for the first time.
He said his job interview was 18 years old.
He's going into his boss and say,
and by the way, when did the summer winter and spring break occur here?
Next.
I'm not going to get the job.
All right, odd but true.
I'm going to ask this to Dick Rasseff.
I hope he's not listening now if he is and I want to ask him.
The Super Bowl halftime show switched from marching bands to not so famous musical acts.
The famous ones after 1992 when in living color.
The TV show on Fox Network ran a live broadcast during the Fox halftime show
that drew 22 million viewers.
The next year, the NFL got Michael Jackson to do the halftime show.
But the question is, who was the first musical act
after they get rid of the marching bands?
Remember marching bands?
He's the only son of the who got who was the first musical act?
You'll never guess it.
She goes down to history as the first act after the marching bands
disappeared from halftime shows.
It was Carol Channing, the Broadway show actress and movie actress too,
but mainly Broadway shows she was famous for.
And she was the first act ever to be hired for a halftime show when they get rid of the marching bands.
The word shortest IQ test was online.
It was only three questions long.
83% of people missed at least one of these.
All right, you ready?
A batten ball cost $1.10 total.
The bat cost $1 more than the ball.
Did the ball cost?
A batten ball cost $1.10.
The bat cost $1 more than the ball.
The most common wrong answer is $0.10.
The right answer is $0.5.
I don't want to spend 25 minutes trying to figure it out.
It only, let's say, the batten ball cost $1.10.
Okay, the right answer is $0.5.
I still can't get to it, but that's what it says here.
I'm going to look at that later.
During the break, I'll check it out and see if I can figure it out.
All right, a survey pinpointed the exact time when fighting over the holidays who's at its peak.
It happens at, are you ready for this?
318 PM on Christmas Day.
What are the things we're fighting about?
The TV remote, dirty dishes, cheating at board games at bad Christmas presents.
You know what would prevent all that from happening?
Going to the movies.
You wouldn't be fighting over all that nonsense.
The average person starts fantasizing about Christmas desserts
three weeks before the holidays.
And the desserts we dream about the most are sugar cookies, carrot cake, pumpkin pie,
Danish cringle.
Now I'm going to add either chocolate cringle or the cream cheese cringle or the
Christmas gringle or the Christmas one they do.
Oh, I got to pick up one of those.
Like I don't have enough fattening things that is holiday season.
I'll just say something else about dessert.
Oh, I bought this.
They didn't have the egg nugget.
The story went to the other day.
I bought this other stuff.
I took one drink.
I had to throw out the whole bottle and it cost 750 to 799.
It's just terrible.
It wasn't egg nugget.
It's called something else was holiday nugget.
It's just terrible.
And so I went decked the supermarket and got whatever.
I'm going to tell you my supermarket story.
It's not a pleasant one.
I'll share it with you coming up after the news headlines here in just a moment.
I'm Don Rosen.
We're looking for a mostly sunny day later today with a high near 36.
Right now it's cloudy in 25 degrees at WRJ on civic media.
hometown radio refreshed.
The church is nice.
It's the orange storm.
It's the blue.
All the happy signs.
It's the blue.
Baby please come home.
It's the blue means they call.
It's not like Christmas at all.
I'm not remembering when you were here.
And all the fun we had this year.
It's a real life on the tree.
Good morning.
I'm Don Rosen 635 and WRJ and hometown radio refreshed.
Becoming mostly sunny a beautiful day today with a high near 36.
Clear tonight.
Lose 29 tomorrow's sunny with a high near 35.
Cloudy at 25 degrees now and we're seen.
You know, I, um, I feel terrible when I'm watching the news and watching
the devastation with weather.
There's some of these people in this country are going through just north and
Nashville.
Six people lost their lives in tornadoes.
It's something usually I hear about in the summertime.
But no, they had massive tornadoes go through Tennessee,
including a two year old.
That's horrible to hear that.
And then you've got the the rain and the flooding on the east coast and the
snow in the mountains on the west coast.
And then you feel guilty because we're having gorgeous weather here in Wisconsin.
And it's going to continue right through the weekend.
So I, I don't feel guilty about that.
I don't know why I feel guilty.
A friend of mine said, you're always feeling bad about stuff.
I don't feel bad about that.
That we're enjoying all this nice weather and people around the country
is suffering with the weather.
But I guess enjoy it while you can because we're going to get our share probably
someday of bad weather.
All right, back to Christmas time.
Seven percent of people have dumped someone after an argument about
who's family to spend Christmas with.
83% of people say they're looking forward to seeing their extended family this year.
22% said they're dreading seeing at least one of their parents.
You know, I was met with my first wife when we first got married and we lived in Atlanta.
When we went back home in New York to a visit relative is the big fight started.
Where are we spending it?
Because we have a little baby.
And where are you going to spend the time your home?
So we did something we probably shouldn't have done when my wife spent time with her parents
and I spent time with mine and the baby got shifted back and forth.
That was terrible to do that.
But we did it and it was a bad idea.
You should probably just decide.
I know we just want to movie.
It was a very good movie.
It's called, are you there?
God, it's me Margaret.
It's based on the popular, so only teenage book from 1970.
And in the movie, it's a coming of age movie for Margaret, who's 11, 12 years old.
But the underlying story is which religion is she going to be?
Her father's side of the family is Jewish.
Her mother's side of the family is Christian.
Her friends have all different religions.
And the extended family, her grandparents, each are fighting over her to see,
they want her to be Jewish or they want her to be Christian.
She decides all religions and I won't tell you what you did at the end of the film.
But the movie is made perfect almost by the actress, the lead actors who played Margaret.
I forget her name, but she is so good.
The facial expression she makes you really believe what this little girl is going through at age 11.
Not only with the religion thing, but all the growing up and the coming of age with her friends.
I think a lot of young girls can probably relate to that movie.
It didn't play theaters for a long time.
We didn't know how to theaters, but it's on DVD now.
Is called, are you there, God?
It's me, Margaret.
It's such an endearing move.
It's got funny parts to it.
It's got cringing parts.
But I think by the end of the film, you're really, really like it.
The names of the people who are in a Kathy Bates of the actress,
the Academy of War to Winning Actress plays the grandmother.
And she's excellent in the film.
I can't remember the other actors names.
There was another actor and there's Rachel McAdams plays the mom.
She's another famous actress.
The rest of the actresses and actors are very young kids.
And they're excellent.
So you probably wouldn't know their names because they really didn't do much other than this.
Anyway, it's a good movie.
Are you there, God?
It's me, Margaret.
If you get a chance to watch it, maybe watch it with a teenage daughter.
I think she'll get a kick out of it.
All right.
This is almost hard to believe.
The average person spends 43 days of their life dealing with hard to open packaging.
At least one in six people spend over 30 minutes wrestling stuff open on Christmas day.
You know, they put that packaging on there, that plastic packaging.
You can't open.
So you get a pair of scissors that's also sealed in that plastic packaging.
And you can't get that open either.
I can understand it.
I do survey as people, what Christmas song they most look forward to hearing.
Now, we talked about the most popular Christmas songs.
And this is also the Christmas song.
People like the most silent night, the most liked song for Christmas.
It's interesting that it's also the most copyrighted song of Christmas songs.
I think of all songs.
In other words, more people have copyrighted their versions of Silent Night,
which I think you can because it's in the public domain.
However, what was the very first song ever played on radio?
When radio is just in its experimental stage, they played a song.
It was a Christmas song.
It was a holy night.
Very first song ever played on radio.
There you go.
That's your fun fact for the day.
A survey has people.
What ages they felt different parts of their body start to fall apart.
We talked about the young girl whose body was coming of age.
Basically, everything starts falling south, going south when you hit age 40.
The back pain at around 44 bad needs had 47 hearing loss at 49.
Really?
I'm very lucky.
I think it's really falling apart that much.
I have a friend who's getting a shoulder replacement.
I never heard of that before.
I thought he was going in for shoulder surgery next week.
He's actually going in for actually this week is going in for a complete shoulder replacement.
Now, I've heard of knee replacement, hip replacements.
Never heard of shoulder replacements before.
A food critic.
Oh, this is going to love this story.
A food critic at the Washington Post once got a message from a reader thanking him for a
recent review for a very unexpected reason.
This is what the the letter said.
Your latest review is accompanied by a picture of my husband dining with a woman who isn't me.
Once the husband was confronted with a photographic evidence, he fast up.
He was having it affair.
What are the chances of having it affair going to a restaurant,
getting your picture taken and being published in a national magazine?
You go through such lengths to hide it and then you get caught.
I guess it's fake.
Having house guests over this holiday season, 60% of us think it's fine to look through someone's
medicine cabinet.
21% of us would use someone's toothbrush if we needed to.
You've got to be kidding me.
Remind me to hide all that stuff.
The products were most likely to use without asking shampoo, toothpaste and conditioner.
Oh, you mean if you're having an overnight guest?
Okay, I think you meant just guests coming over dinner.
I got to brush my teeth.
Here's a toothbrush.
First of all, would you want to use somebody else's toothbrush?
I can't imagine that.
It might be to hide all that stuff.
I never look in people's medicine cabinets.
I just don't do it.
I don't want to know what's going through.
I remember on that Seinfeld episode, Jerry looked at the medicine cabinet and found some
ointment for fungus.
And his girlfriend had a fungus.
Turns out it was for a cat.
It just happened to be of the medicine cabinet.
Oh, I can't imagine going through somebody's medicine cabinet.
You know what we have in our medicine cabinet?
My wife and I bought at the Old Nelson's Variety stores.
Remember Nelson's Variety store on, uh, I wait 20 there?
I'm watching the Navajo.
We bought these plastic bugs.
They're really pretty looking, you know, they look real.
And once a spider, and if you open the medicine cabinet and see it,
you jolt for a second because it looks real.
When people come over, I'm going to put all the bugs in the medicine cabinet.
And if they were scream, I'll know they were in the medicine cabinet.
How do you like that?
People who are asked if different things count as stealing or not.
This will give you an insight to your fellow human beings.
76% of a cashier gives you too much change and you keep it.
That is stealing.
Seven percent of us think it's not stealing.
If you take someone else's coat by mistake and keep it,
you tell a friend they left something at your place, but they never pick it up.
So a few months later, you start using it.
78% said, no, that's not stealing.
You're telling me if somebody left something at your house,
you wouldn't go out of your way to make sure they get it back and said,
you keep it, that is stealing.
And someone else's coat, you put it out by mistake and you keep it and you know,
it's a mistake, that's stealing.
All right, you got a holiday fitness related holiday gift this year,
like a gym membership or a home workout, a home workout equipment.
Would you be happy or insulted?
38% say they'd be more pleased than insulted.
Seven percent would be insulted.
I would be pleased.
I'll take it.
Don't get it from me though.
If anyone's losing, don't not get it.
Odd, but true.
17% of people had something stolen while they were hosting a party.
That was an old Dick Van Dyke episode.
He had a big party over his house and his watch was missing.
And you know, his thing was, well, I don't want to accuse my friends of stealing,
even though one of my friends is a thief.
Because those are the only people in the house.
Bottom line is a real thief stole the watch.
Came in when they weren't looking and stole it.
But he had to start accusing his friends.
And he didn't really start.
He hired, you know, his insurance company hired an investigator to check it out.
And they started accusing the friends one by one.
And but yeah, what if you have a holiday party and it's something's missing?
You got to accuse somebody, right?
A survey asked women what they do with a particularly bad gift.
Here's what women said.
They returned it immediately.
That was one third of people.
25% actually wear it to avoid hurting another partner's feelings.
20% regift it.
10% sell it on eBay.
The problem with regifting it.
You got to make sure the person you're giving to is in
friends with the person who first gave it to you.
Because hey, look at this wonderful gift I got.
Gee, I gave one of those gifts to my friend.
It looks exactly the same.
Hey, the serial number is the same too.
Same thing with eBay.
What if they see it on eBay?
And you got you got some spleen into do.
December can be the best month to find a new job because most people stop looking
around the holidays.
So when you apply more likely to stand up, a lot of companies will start hiring when they get
to do budgets in January.
So applying now gives you a head start looking for a new job.
I know here at civic media, we're running something on the other.
They're always looking for new people.
Fresh faces.
I'm not a fresh face.
So I don't know how I got the job.
But they're always looking for new people and I would apply to civic media.
You'll hear the announcements on the air.
So go ahead.
Here's a parenting hack for you.
If you're going to toss your channel in the air,
check to see if you're under a ceiling fan first.
Do you know 2,300 kids are treated in ERs each year for head injuries because
somebody tossed them in the air and their head is a spinning ceiling fan.
It seems we're the 2,300, but it happens.
I get this job.
Let's give that story for now.
All right.
Do you buy a smart watch to get healthy, smart watch?
A study found the wristband is probably covered in bacteria.
85% of wristbands tested positive for at least traits amounts of the bacteria behind
staff infections.
60% of those wristbands, Eddie Coli,
metal wristbands had the least bacteria in cloth.
Bands had the most.
Not exactly a feel good story.
The, um, I have a, um, I'm trying to think of the name.
What do they call fit bit?
I don't wear it anymore because I, I don't wear watches anymore either.
I just didn't like that stuff around my wrist.
But now that they mention it, I think it was a plastic wristband for a fit bit.
I don't wear it anyway.
All right.
For our files, a woman in New York got something that looked like a doorknob at her Taco Bell,
in her Taco Bell nachos turned out to be the knob from the nacho cheese pump.
Taco Bell says it was investigating and how it wound up in her food.
It really was.
I mean, she wasn't making it up.
It really was.
But now from the cheese pump.
Now, you think the person running the cheese pump at the next time he had a pump
it would have noticed, yeah, I wonder where the knob went.
It was here a moment ago because I pumped it on that lady's taco.
Hmm.
I have no idea where it could have gone.
Yeah, think you would have gone to that lady and say, excuse me.
Did you find the pump to the nacho cheese dispenser in your taco because we're missing ours.
A millennial couple in Kansas getting blasted if they posted on Reddit about how they were having
trouble making ends meet with their $500,000 year income.
I can not only make ends meet.
I can travel it around the world.
Have it come back and still meet for $500,000.
Some people don't realize how good they have it.
70% of adults do not want either of their parents moving in with them when they get older.
But if they had to pick one, two thirds of people would pick their mom to live with them.
Instead of their dad, the main reason is mom would help out with cooking,
cleaning and taking care of the kids and dad had bad hygiene and says inappropriate things.
You know what that means?
You don't want mom.
You want to mate to come in.
That's what you're looking for.
You're looking for a maid, the honest.
All right.
For today in receipt area, becoming mostly sunny a beautiful day.
A little chilly, but really December-ish with a high near 36.
Clear tonight.
Clear sky.
Loads around 29 and sunny with a high near 95.
Sunny to bark with a high near 35 degrees.
Right now it's cloudy at 25 degrees.
I'm Don Rosen.
I want to thank you for joining us here at WRG and a civic media station.
Home down radio refreshed.
Coming up on the other side of news at 706 this morning.
We'll be Dick Vercefa from DG Sports.
We'll talk about high school sports.
It's coming up at 706 this morning.
Right here at WRJN.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
Everywhere you go.
Take a look in the five and ten.
Glistening once again.
With candy canes and silver lanes are glowed.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
Ties in every storm.
But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be on your own, front door.
A pair of hop-along boots and a pistol that chooses the wish chipbarnie and bend.
Dolls on the top will go for a walk as the hope for Janice and Jen.
And mom and dad can hardly wait for school to start again.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
It is.
We've got a wreath in our lobby, huh?
Right.
It's beautiful.
And I found some figure Christmas figurines in our lower conference room I put out.
So yes, the radio station is beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
Oh, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
It is 6.52 at WRJN radio becoming mostly sunny with a hundred thirty six today,
right out Claudian twenty five.
I'm Don Rosen.
And I have news from the new center put together by Stuart J Wattles our news director this morning.
A shooting in Racine early Saturday morning left one person injured.
Racine police were called to near Lyndon and Valley around three a.m.
Where they found a 40 year old man who had been shot multiple times.
The victim was taken to the hospital as current status or condition is unknown.
Anyone that may have heard or seen something should contact the police.
A proposed shopping center would be a casino adjacent if everything moves ahead.
The city plan commission unanimously approved the Kenosha midpoint center.
A major retail development proposed at 71st Street and 120 second Avenue.
A project involves three commercial buildings on the vacant property with future phases of
a possibility. A developer is required to contribute to future infrastructure improvements
that a manamity tribe is still working to get approval for a casino complex nearby at 60th
Street and I 94. We could learn more this week about the return of the Salmita Rambo event.
Downtown Racine preparing to host a full scale Salmita Rambo event.
Once again following a recent agreement between the city of Racine and the new event management
company for festival and Memorial Hall.
The Salmita Rambo organization has partnered with 5K events to celebrate the 50th anniversary
of the 50th the fishing competition with the return to the former festival.
Once the in water component has been ongoing, the news marks the comeback of live music food trucks
and more to the event. Franklin on Wednesday will be filled with squads for a funeral for a police
officer as it takes place. Milwaukee police officer James Noah will be laid to rest with
a visitation to start at 9 AM at Southbrook Church on St. Martin's Road. A funeral starts at two,
Noah died several days after an accident involving a semi in Oak Creek.
Racine County prosecutors have filed a new charge of second-degree sexual assault
against the alleged dating app predator. The charge stems from an incident in September 2022
where a woman allegedly alleged that Olsen offered her to buy her a drink at a bar. She later
woke up with no memory of what happened. Olsen is currently serving and, excuse me, it's currently
in the Milwaukee County jail on charges of kidnapping and theft involving a 79-year-old woman from
Franklin. Olsen's also connected to two separate death investigations. The FBI searching for a man
who robbed a bank in Milwaukee again over the weekend. The incident took place on Saturday
at the Bank of America located on Southbrook Keegan Road. According to authorities, a man entered
the bank and presented a note demanding money while implying he was armed with a handgun. The man ran
off with an undisclosed sum of money. Tomorrow, that's a day when summer's officials take a look at a
proposal to redevelop Maple Crest. Milwaukee Bucks players are involved with this company. They're
looking to put in 800 housing units at the property and would use about 168 years and have single
family of duplex units. Those are the news headlines from Stuart J. Wattles this morning. Our
news director, Hill of more of these stories and more news coming up throughout the day right here.
At WRJN. He had 655. We have Dick Rasefa coming up from DJ Sports. Dick Rasefa did high school sports
on this station several years ago. And he is now still doing high school sports for DJ sports.
And we'll talk with Dick Rasefa coming up at 706. Talk about high school football. The high school
basketball season four games in this season so far. We'll get the lowdown on who's going where
with the standing zone. That's all with Dick Rasefa coming up at 706 this morning. He had 655
right now. And you know, there's a trick that supposedly makes you fall asleep in under a minute.
You have trouble falling asleep. Sometimes I do. I won't tell you how I sleep. I sleep with a
fan blowing on my face. And I have a DVD player next to me. That's into DVD TV shows like the odd
couple and the honeymooners and two and a half men and I fall asleep to that. However, there's
another trick you can use. It's called the 478 rule. You breathe in slowly through your nose for four
seconds. Hold your breath for seven seconds. Breathe out through your mouth for eight seconds. Repeat
that three more times and you should go to sleep. Maybe I'll try that. So you want warm weather.
Well, people who are most likely to commit a crime when it's 64 degrees outside and much less
likely when it's really cold or hot, really hot. It's not just because people want good weather
for their crime spree. When it's nice outside, more people are around. So that means more targets.
So they stick to the really cold weather. Okay.
A single man in Texas sent photos to his daughter last week for advice on what shirt to wear for a date.
The date stood him up, but his daughter tweeted the photos out and they're going viral. And now
apparently he's getting a ton of offers for dates based on the shirt that is daughter.
Big that that's terrible to stand somebody up on the date. I don't know why people do that.
Hot new trend at weddings to hire a tattoo artist. So gaskin the ink at your reception.
They weren't free. He had to pay a set price of 60 bucks, but they weren't offering full
slaves a simple outline tattoos. Some people think it's a cute idea. Others think it's weird.
Maybe unsanitary, but it would be awkward if none of your guests wanted one. Either way,
most seem to agree doing it early and the reception is the way to go. Don't have tattoos
available once everybody's drunk, though, because you know what they'll get tattooed on there.
And once they're tattooed on, it's very painful to get them off. Fun fact, there's a town in Texas
named Canadian. It's citizens are called Canadians. They're about 2,500 people there.
And the closing scene from the Tom Hanks movie cast away was filmed in Canadian.
All right. Never knew there was a city named Canadian and those people are Canadians.
A list of the worst TV decisions in the history got this from Rolling Stone. NBC's canceling
a freaks and geeks. That thing didn't have a cold following. Fox turning down the sopranos
and Fox giving Chevy Chase his own late night show. I saw Chevy Chase on that opening night show.
It was live. And he was so nervous. He was shaking. His voice was quivering. He was not ready
to go live on that show. It didn't last long because it was so bad. But yeah, it was sad to see
because he was so scared and nervous. He was very cringewatchy. He was cringeworthy.
All right. It's 6.58 at WRJN. Dick Krasepa coming up after the new 706. I'm Don Rosen at WRJN
becoming mostly sunny with a high-deer 36 degrees today right now. It's 25 clouds in
received. They're at where you are. No move. On town radio refreshed WRJN.
