Here's the best. You ever ask someone if they know someone and then they tell you a different name?
How's that possible? That happens to me all the time. I go, hey, I go, you know Mike Anderson? He goes,
I don't know, uh, Flip Gunnerson.
Did you hear me say, Flip Gunnerson? Sometimes they don't even have the right sex.
I go, you don't Mike Smith, he goes, uh, I know what Denise Smith. I go, yeah, that's the guy.
What do you got to play in your head? What the hell is the matter with you?
Mary and Bride, so hang yours diamonds and say your birthday Santa Claus comes tonight.
Merry Christmas, happy holidays. Merry Christmas, happy holidays.
Merry Christmas, happy holidays. Merry Christmas, happy holidays.
It comes tonight. It's 607 at WRJ and I'm Don Rosen. Thanks for joining me here on this wet.
Wet Tuesday morning. Rain and snow showers. Highs near 41 today. Clotty with lows around 30.
Party sunny. Nice tomorrow. Highs near 39 and like that. Right now 35 degrees for the wet snow drizzle combo out there.
Merry Christmas, happy holidays. Merry Christmas, happy holidays. Merry Christmas, happy holidays. Merry Christmas, happy holidays.
Coming up at 7 o'clock this morning and welcome a good friend to the community of Racine.
Nick Ramsey is going to be here and Nick is involved in so many cultural events going on in Racine.
We're going to talk about those coming up at 7 o'clock this morning when Nick joins us right here in the studio.
Don't you hate when DJs talk over the music? Let's just hate that.
Come Santa Claus playing down Santa Claus Lane.
Exhibition and all his read here pulling all the rage.
As I ring and jump and sing in halls, maybe I'm right. So hang your strings and say your past.
Come tonight. There you go, pentatownics.
No talking over the music here at all. Yeah, we won't do that kind of thing.
Coming up tomorrow's our big anniversary show got some in studio guests for you.
We have some recorded studio guest voices from the past that you may have woken up with here on WRJ and past morning people.
We will have one, two, three, three, four, four, four past people who used to wake you up in the morning here for them will be on the air tomorrow.
Yeah, in studio will be Janet off Tom Carco, Kurt Vollman will be here as well.
And we've recorded some past owners of this radio station. We've recorded past disc jockeys.
We've recorded so many people for you to say hello to you on our anniversary show tomorrow Wednesday.
December 6th. There was 19, 26. We went on the air. We'll talk about that tomorrow.
Okay, it's December here. A few things to look forward to this month college football's ballgame start December 16th in movies.
Wonka another remake. This is the third remake of Willie. Actually, it's the second remake.
The third version of Willie Wonka and the chocolate factory opens on the 15th.
The Aquaman of the lost kingdom arrives on the 22nd along the new animated film Migration.
So the preview for it. Let's kind of nice. I like it.
Two big ones opened Christmas day for Rory starring Adam driver and the new musical adaptation of the color purple on television.
The last six episodes of the crown hit Netflix December 14th.
And finally, we've got the holidays. Of course, the big ones are Christmas.
Onika from the seventh to the 15th and quanza starting on December 26th.
There's also national cookie day next Monday couldn't come at a better time.
Nationalized cream day on the 13th. I plan on celebrating that big time ugly sweater day on the 15th.
The official first day of winters December 21st and believe it or not on that day.
The days will start getting longer.
We're almost at the bottom of that and you'll see the sun will start coming up sooner and sooner every day.
Doesn't happen on the 22nd, but it does happen soon.
And of course, Festivus, the holiday for the rest of us is on the 23rd and on the 31st New Year's Eve.
We finally get to say so long to 2023. I don't think 2023 was that bad.
Usually a lot of people say, oh, I'm so happy to get this year out of here and get out of here.
I'm not that happy. It was a pretty good year.
According to your survey, 82% of people are open to receiving second hand holiday gifts, which is up from 11% last year.
Now, we've talked about this before.
Second hand gifts aren't always bad.
So what items are people gifting second hand electronics, the most common followed by sporting goods, open proven items.
People also giving second hand books media like blue rays and vinyl records, toys and games jewelry, ceramics and ornaments, video games, arts and crafts, bags and purses.
You want a second hand Gucci purse? I'm sure you'll take it, right?
Also, you know, a lot of blue rays or DVDs are out of print. You can't get them anymore except if it's used.
Same thing with books. Books go out of print too.
How do you eat a candy cane? I've never finished a candy cane in my life.
You start them and then you throw them out. They get sticky and you throw them out.
Do you start with the curved end or the straight end first to pull found 55% of us start with the straight end?
28% start with the curved end. I don't know how you eat that.
And 17% do what I usually do breaking into pieces.
But I never finished a candy cane in my life. I don't think a lot of people do.
Triple A released a new study, which found there are six times of drivers out there.
Safe drivers, which is the largest group.
Speeding drivers, distracted drivers, distracted aggressive drivers, most dangerous drivers and impaired drivers.
I'm telling you this morning, every morning there's somebody on my tail coming down 16th street.
They're right on my tail. And I'm going to speed limit even in the rain and snowy mixture out there.
And they get around you and they cut right in front of you just to show you that they're angry at you for going the speed limit and following the law.
They don't like that.
What else do I have? A new poll found a good date going to date lately.
I'm so glad I'm out of the dating scene.
Good dates cost about $196. Those are good dates.
Not everyone needs to be wind and dined.
50% of people say they wouldn't judge someone for taking them someplace cheap.
Like Arby's, I guess, right?
The same. Arby's isn't that cheap.
The same percentage wouldn't even mind a free date where you didn't spend any money on them.
What do you do on a free date? Watch television.
I was just going to the movies for that cost money.
Go for a walk.
No, no.
I think people expect to go out to dinner or go to a movie on a date.
Let's see what else we got here.
You know, watching Kelly Clarkson posting the Rockefeller set her Christmas tree lighting extravaganza.
I'm still watching it.
I taped it and I watch it in dribs and drabs.
And she does a very good job. She's excellent on it.
But she's going through a lot of tumult right now in her life.
A lot of semis, a lot of troubles.
One of them is Kelly Clarkson's ex-husband.
I didn't know she was divorced.
Has to pay her over $2.6 million because she took commissions for different deals.
He made as her manager that shouldn't have been handled.
That should have been handled by her talent agent.
I mean, she's going through these court cases.
And then she gets up on NBC and looks like she doesn't have a care in the world and just loves life, which she probably does.
But still going through all that.
I'd be curled up like a cocktail shrimp and bed if I was going through all those court cases.
But good for her. She didn't do it.
A woman offered her Idaho wedding venue for free.
It exchanged for Taylor Swift tickets.
Someone took her up on it.
The bride said each ticket cost $300. Really?
So it got you to see Taylor.
So she said we spent $900 on a $4,500 wedding venue essentially.
Boy, and the Taylor Swift phenomenon continues.
See all the pictures and videos online of Taylor walking into Lambo field.
I didn't realize how tall she was.
I maybe it was the heels, but she pretty tall lady.
I thought you were smaller than that.
But they show her walking through the hallways.
Not the tunnels, but we're all the offices out at Lambo field trying to get to her box up there in the sky box.
But she has all these people surrounding her.
Even when they showed a video of her getting out of a concert off stage.
And she's got like 12 guys.
They're always looking at the crowd for nuts that might attack her.
Imagine going through life where you can't go anywhere without security guards all over you.
I mean, Taylor Swift is so recognizable.
It's very hard for her to melt into the crowd.
I mean, guys could put a fake mustache on and, you know, girl beard and you wouldn't even notice them.
But women are different. You're going to notice them when they go out there.
And Taylor is very noticeable, very beautiful girl, very beautiful woman.
She, uh, anyway, so she's got all these guys surrounding her and their eyes are darting all over the crowd.
Their heads are going back and forth while she walks and waves to the crowd.
I don't know.
That's got to be a tricky life to navigate being so famous where you're so afraid someone's going to attack you in a moment's notice.
32% of Americans said they were confident they can land a plane into the emergency experts say they're not so sure.
Are we talking about a jetliner because those can fly themselves to some degree.
I've seen that happen.
Do you ever see one of those airplane movies where Karen Black the actress had a land of planes?
She was a flight attendant on the plane.
I guess something happened to the pilots and she had a fly the plane.
She did it.
Of course, in the movie, but I thought they have some kind of automation where they can fly themselves.
That's why I heard.
I don't want to try it.
I don't like flying anymore.
Too many nuts as passengers on those flights.
The planes don't bother me. They're safe.
It's the people on board that bother me.
Opening up emergency doors when they shouldn't, fighting and punching the flight attendants, screaming at other passengers, punching them.
Who wants to get on a flight with those crazies?
Our professional cleaner says, all right.
Now this is for you to decide too.
She would prefer to clean a dirty toilet than a dishwasher any day.
Now when I tell you, I can't untail you.
Okay. So if you have a dishwasher, what you hear this, you're committed.
She recently saw a nasty dishwasher filter that looked like it had mushrooms and oysters growing on it.
She said, at least the toilet. You know what's there? You can see it.
You know what? I think she's right.
I don't know if I'd want to...
I don't want to clean anything.
But if I had to, I used to clean toilets.
So I got into radio. I was a station janitor at a radio station at Long Island.
I used to clean them all the time. I could tell you stories that would make you nauseous.
I had to clean up at that radio station.
But I did it for several years. Even though I was on the air.
I would keep the cleaning job all for $1.85 an hour.
And years and years later, when I moved on with life, they told me they never hired a better janitor than I was.
I made sure that place was sparkling clean.
Alright, coming up. We've got some more cha-chat with you.
We've got Denik Ramsey coming up at 706 this morning.
Alright, here at WRJN, we've got Wetsnow and Drizzle Foley in 35 degrees.
I'm Don Rose in 1400A of 99.9 in 98.1 FM.
Civic Media, hometown radio refreshed.
Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go.
Where are you, Christmas?
And why can't I find you?
And why have you gone away?
Where is the laughter you used to bring me?
Why can't I hear music play?
My world is changing, I'm rearing, I'm rearing.
And does that mean Christmas changes?
621, a WRJ, and I'm Don Rosen.
Thanks for joining us here at Wetsnow.
We're falling right now and we're seeing it's 35 degrees.
I mentioned earlier why I don't like to fly on planes
to many nuts.
Case in point.
You ready for this?
This guy was watching the movie Deadpool 2 on his cell phone
on a plane while wearing headphones couldn't hear it.
A little kid behind him was watching from between the seats
and got upset at a violent scene.
The mother on the plane started yelling at the guy
calling him a jerk.
He had no idea the kid was even watching.
He wants to know why he is the jerk
and the butter didn't stop the kid from watching the movie
through the seat.
This is it.
There's a woman yelling at this guy on a plane
for mining his own business watching something
out of cell phone.
And her kid, which is under her supervision,
sneaks a peek at it between the seats
and he's the jerk.
So this is why I don't fly.
I'm not that I'm going to watch Deadpool on my phone
but I don't want to deal with the nuts on the plane.
There's enough nuts right here on the planet
without going up in the air to see more of them.
Most people probably wouldn't have a problem
keeping an abandoned $20 bill they found in a parking lot.
They're probably not going to put a lot of effort
into finding the right feloners $20.
Big deal, right?
But what if it was $1,000?
A poll asked thousands of people what they would do
if they found $1,000 on the ground.
This would give you a faith in the human race.
47% of the people said they'd keep it
if no one else was around watching them.
Doesn't that give you confidence in your fellow human beings?
This is a strange story.
This guy is collecting VHS tapes of the movie Titanic.
Now if you collected VHS tapes years ago,
chances are you might have a copy of Titanic.
It was one of the top selling tapes of its day
more than 25 million in circulation.
So this guy in Florida is trying to amass
one million copies of Titanic on VHS.
Now do you remember Titanic was a double cassette movie?
So it's extra wide.
This guy is going to have a million of them.
That's what he wants anyway.
He only has about 2500 so far as asking people to send them
their spare copies in the mail.
First of all, what's he going to do with them?
Why is he doing it?
And he's obviously not married because I don't know
a wife on this planet would put up with someone putting
one million copies of Titanic on VHS in the house.
I don't think my wife would put up with it.
I mean, I'm lucky I got into the house.
A guy in a small town in Washington state
lost his city council election by one vote because
he didn't vote for himself.
He said it felt too narcissistic to vote for himself.
So he didn't do it.
An official recount found his opponent won 247 to 246.
To Puglay, releasing a napkin holder for car visors
so you can store all the napkins you steal from them.
And VZ access to them while driving.
Sadly, they immediately sold out over the weekend,
but you can get the same thing on Amazon for about a third
of the price.
We were talking about the Taylor Swift phenomenon.
Taylor generated 26.1 billion streams on Spotify.
A translates to $100 million in royalties from them this year.
It's got $100 million from Spotify.
She also just became the first artist to have five
top 10 albums all at the same time.
As I said, the Taylor Swift phenomenon marches on.
And there's no end in sight.
She's very talented.
She writes her own music, performs her own music,
publishes her own music, has concerts all over the world.
Whoo.
She is a threat.
What an artist.
If you need a very last minute gift for the holiday,
if you don't want to give a gift guard,
here are some options for you.
You can buy someone a digital product,
like a video game or streaming service subscription,
buy tickets to a concert or sporting event,
or send Bitcoin or other cryptocurrency.
I don't know about their last one there.
I want to buy somebody Bitcoin.
All right.
Or I'm going to save the story,
because I've got something you got to hear.
When I do that story, that's going to be an audio daily
double tummy gum.
What's a simple everyday pleasure in life
that's super rich people.
Don't get to experience.
I hear some good answers that were online.
The excitement that comes from finding a $10 bill
in an old coat you and I,
whoa, we're rich.
That's a, that's not even a tip for super rich people.
The thrill of finding a favorite product on sale,
the intense family bonds had come with not having money.
It's that you and me against the world thing.
The good aspects of public transportation,
like reading on the subway or having a weird
but interesting conversation on the bus,
and when you finally saved up enough money,
they get a car.
Say, we're super rich people.
They don't do that kind of thing.
They don't care about that.
I don't know what they care about,
but now I don't think they have to save up to get a car.
In science news, a team at Princeton University
created the world's smallest camera.
It's as big as a grain of salt.
The technology could eventually be used in cell phones
and medical instruments.
How do you take a selfie with that?
It looks like it's grain of salt.
How do you know where the lens is?
Here's a strategy to avoid overeating
at holiday dinners when you have a host who won't take
I am full for an answer.
The best thing you can do is say how good the food is
and ask for seconds,
but when you do take seconds,
take smaller portions.
That way the host is happy.
You want it more.
Got a birthday or holiday party coming up.
A survey found a list of the most
regrettable things people do when they're drunk.
And people do get drunk at holiday parties.
I don't know why, but they do.
Here are the top five things they do.
They get sick.
They argue with friends.
They pass out of the public place.
They start hooking up with a stranger at the party
and revealing a secret that should have been kept a secret.
And people do nasty things when they get drunk.
That's not the drink.
All right.
I have one of these songs here.
And I might play it for you later on.
All right.
We'll play it later on.
But here's every artist releases their own Christmas songs.
Some don't hold up over the years.
Some do.
These are the forgotten Christmas songs by major artists.
Christmas tree by Lady Gaga.
We don't even have that.
Ho ho ho.
Who'd be a turkey at Christmas by Elton John?
Kenny Chesney.
All I went for Christmas is a real good tan.
Cindy Lauper early morning Christmas.
And here's one I just found this morning.
We actually have it.
Kenny Rogers, Kentucky homemade Christmas.
Never heard of it.
And they also have on the list here.
Christmas time is here again by the Beatles.
Now in all fairness, that song was released only to Beatles club fan members.
That was back in the 1960s.
They released that song.
But they had to be a member of the Beatles fan club to get it.
So it was never available to the public.
And that's probably why you don't hear it.
Because radio stations didn't get it unless they were members of the Beatles fan club.
Then they got the song.
So it is.
What is it?
It's 628 already.
628.
Nick Ramsey coming up a little after seven o'clock, talking about all the cultural activities
he's involved in in recene.
We have rain and snow showers.
This high is near 41 today.
Cloudy tonight lows around 30.
Partly sunny tomorrow with a high year 39 right now.
Wet drizzle and wet snow and 35 degrees.
I like the way it says wet drizzle.
Is there any is there a dry drizzle?
You can be with.
I don't think so.
Wet snow and drizzle.
We'll just see that.
35 degrees now in recene.
I'm Don Rose at a WRTN Civic Media.
That's hometown radio.
Refreshed.
This street at the Christmas party hall.
Missed all the hallways you can't see.
Every couple try.
Let's just stop.
Rock it around.
The Christmas tree.
Let the Christmas be every break.
Later we'll have some fucking fire.
And we'll do some gathering.
You will get us a little feeling.
That is the number one song of the Billboard charts right now.
It's a 65 years for it to hit number one.
13 year old Brenda Lee.
Rock it around the Christmas tree.
Brenda Lee just made a new video.
As she set you, she's 78 years old now.
It's just made a new video doing this song.
Her voice sounds the same.
I don't know if she's lip-syncing, but when she spoke, her voice sounded exactly the same.
So this is the number one song of the Billboard charts now.
65 years to hit number one.
Most Christmas songs and popular ones were number one, one time or another.
But this one took a long time to get there.
But this week, it's number one.
You will get us a little feeling when you hate.
For us to sing it, let's be garlic dead.
Number two this week.
Ah, she's just out of reach of number one.
Mariah Carey, all I want for Christmas is you.
That's number one every year at this time.
That's not even her original song.
I think Vince fans and the Values had the original song of that.
But Mariah had the head with it.
You got to give it to her.
She's the self-proclaimed clean of Christmas.
Mariah Carey.
And she does a good job.
You know why?
Because she takes care of her fans.
That's why she does a good job.
All right.
Now this is interesting here.
I'm going to give you a list of Christmas carols that you don't hear often if ever.
And I'm going to play one of them today because I found it.
You got tiny Tim's white Christmas.
I've never heard that.
William Hung.
The little drummer boy.
Wasn't William Hung from American Idol or something like that?
I think it was one of those shows.
Out of course, of course, Jingle Bells by William Shatton.
Now William Shatton, he put out a couple of albums.
He doesn't sing.
That's the problem with William Shatton.
So he kind of talks his way through it.
As you'll hear, with a song which you probably never heard before and probably never hear again,
Jingle Bells by William Shatton.
Now she threw the snow on the one-horse open sleigh.
Or the fields we go laughing all the way.
Bells unbopped, they'll ring.
Making spirits bright.
What fun it is to laugh at sing a sleigh just tonight.
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells.
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells.
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells.
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells.
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells.
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells.
I said, I know where that song is, I know it because I have heard it before and I found it.
A survey asked people to name the Strangers gift they've ever gotten from my co-worker.
All right, here are the best answers.
A chest piece, just one piece, not a set, just one chest piece.
A fire- stars extinguisher.
Now that's not a bad gift.
A ziplock bag with coffee enough to make one pot.
So if they bought one canister of coffee at the supermarket and they put one ziplock
bag full of coffee for one brewing, we get a lot of gifts out of that one thing, don't
think?
A Christmas sort of it with photos of the co-worker and his wife on it.
You really want to hang that on your tree?
All right, what's the first thing that pops into your head when you hear the word Christmas?
33% of people said Christmas songs and carols.
22% said Santa in presence.
21% said parties and gatherings.
With me, it's Christmas decorations.
I think it Christmas trees and the lights when you say the word Christmas, that's the
first thing that pops into my head.
All right, it's time for odd but true.
The first book ever sold on Amazon because Amazon when it started just sold books, by
the way.
It was just a bookseller.
First book ever sold about artificial intelligence was called fluid concepts and creative
analogies.
Someone bought it in July of 1985, all right, it's old books, it's got to be a first book
for everything, right?
First sale.
A study found your cat will probably eat you if you die.
Most late start with the arms first, I don't have a cat, but I guess if you're hungry enough,
they start with the arms.
I think they start with the face.
35 people are planning to give a passive aggressive, take the hint gift this year according
to the survey.
Those include things like perfume, I guess you smell.
So they want to give you perfume, a cookbook, you don't add a cook, a self-help book, you're
a clutz and an exercise equipment or gym membership because you're a little overweight or
at a shape.
What would you do if you got an entire extra paycheck as a holiday bonus?
28% of us would use it to pay bills, 26% would buy more presents for their family, 23%
would save it, 7% would spend it on everyday expenses, only 5% would buy something for
themselves.
Well, that gives you hope, right?
Non-selfish people, 95% are in selfish anyway.
That's kind of nice.
Now, the survey has people for their favorite animated TV special, the number what is, right,
a Charlie Brown Christmas, the top movie is a Christmas story, there are some other
Christmas specials, people like that Rudolph the Red Nose reindeer, Frosty the snowman,
the Jack Frost one, those are the Rankin Bass animated films, you can always tell those
Rankin Bass ones, they have a puppetry about them.
But yeah, a Charlie Brown Christmas, it's really a nothing show, but I think it just gives
us a good feeling when we watch it.
52% of us have gotten a negative reaction from their significant other over a Christmas
gift.
Those common negative reactions are the silent treatment, complaining to family and friends
about what you gave them and bringing it up in conversation of the party later.
I'm lucky.
I think I give good gifts.
I think my wife will agree, I give good gifts.
I can't think of one bad gift I've ever given her.
She uses all my gifts too, they're very usable.
All right.
People melt down over the holidays, you know, we once had somebody here, a news, a news
person here who told me, Carol Briggs was her name, she was in our news department back
in the 90s.
And she said, this is why people melt down or have a miserable Christmas because they
said such a high expectation for what the holiday season is going to bring them and when
it doesn't meet that expectation, they feel bad and they have a melt down over it.
And people set the expectation so high, you really can't meet them because life isn't
like that.
That thing still happened during the Christmas season to people, you know, anxiety still
happened during the Christmas season.
So she was so right and I think about that when they hear people depressed or whatever
during the holiday season because their expectations are so high for a perfect Christmas season
and things don't always work out like that.
So the question was six tips to avoid a meltdown over the holidays, stick to your budget.
Don't worry too much about traditions.
Don't try to buy the perfect gift.
Don't eat too much.
Well, that's going to be tough.
Don't commit to too many events and don't expect yourself to be in the Christmas spirit
all the time.
And I think that's the biggest one.
People want to be happy.
If it's like living in a movie and movies aren't real, TV shows aren't real.
So it's tough to meet those expectations.
Carol Briggs told me that and never forget that.
Is it cheating to passionately kiss someone other than your significant other under the
mistletoe?
So you wind up under the mistletoe, peck on the cheek, a passionate kiss.
I don't think so.
37% of people say it is cheating.
38% said it's not the rest that's up the grabs are not sure.
You would passionately kiss somebody, a friend, even though you're married under the
mistletoe.
If I was your spouse, I wouldn't be happy about that.
34% of us do the bulk of our Christmas shopping in late November or early December, 19%
wait until two to three weeks before Christmas.
That's probably me.
1% wait until Christmas Eve, another 1% until after Christmas because I want to get
the deals.
Yeah, I was wait until a few weeks before.
That's when I seriously start thinking, now this year, well, I've told me what she wants.
Yeah, like I'm going to get anything on her list.
My son, our son told us what he wants, yeah, like I can get that.
Well, I guess I have to get that.
She did put out a list and you know what, if somebody put it on the list, they probably
really, really want it.
So I might stick to the list this year.
What's something everybody does, society, society accepts as normal.
But yet drives you crazy or a few of our favorite answers we found online immediately commenting
on a short or tall person's height when you meet them.
I used to have that all the time.
I was very lanky when I was a teenager and I was, you know, six foot, three, six foot
four.
I was very tall.
And every time I met somebody, they said, oh, you play basketball?
Oh, excuse me.
I didn't know every tall person in the world had to play basketball.
But they always said, oh, my relatives said that too.
Hey, you're playing basketball in high school.
No, although I did, but no, I wasn't on the team.
We had like an after school team.
How about this asking married couples when they're going to have kids?
That's embarrassing.
Maybe they can't have kids.
Maybe there's something medically wrong.
They can't have it.
You're pressing them texting when you with other people.
That is just rude.
You ever talk to somebody in the middle of the conversation, they pull out their phone
and they're texting, I don't think they can pay attention to you in text at the same
time.
And how about this one, touching a pregnant woman's belly without asking, people do that.
I've seen that.
I would never do it.
They see that she's pregnant.
And you find a way.
You better hope that she really is pregnant before you start doing that.
But they touch your belly and you're touching somebody.
You can't do that without asking.
People were asked the name of the strangers, gifts they've gotten from a coworker.
We've got some more of them here, a box of hot pockets, a coupon for a free, long game,
the coworker invented, by the way, Christmas ornament with photos of a coworker and his wife,
honey.
We mentioned that one earlier.
All right, holiday world record fun facts.
Let's get these in real quickly here.
A bunch of kids in England built an 18 foot manoeuvre for Christmas using 80,000 Legos.
Probably said a world record, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, the tallest
Christmas tree ever cut was a 221 foot Douglas fur displayed in Seattle, Washington in 1950.
221 feet is more than 20 stories tall.
So when you see that picture of the giant Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center, it's just a couple
of stories.
This was 20 stories tall.
How do they transport it?
Survey found that almost everyone who decorates their home for the holidays does so with at
least one fire hazard, 47% use candles, yikes, I would never sleep at night, 31% admit
to using two or more extension cords plugged together, 28% use tinsel, which can be very
flammable, and less than 17% of people who put up a real tree, water it daily, which means
it probably dries out and as a fire hazard, yeah, I would be nervous.
Obviously some of those extension cords people use, they're all afraid and the wires
are bare and why would you do this, especially if they have a pet, I wouldn't want to do
that.
All right, looking for Santa, there were two towns in the US named Santa.
There's the unincorporated town of Santa Idaho, which has embraced its connection to Santa
clause in the past, but was actually named after it nearby Santa Anna Creek, but who knows,
and there's Santa Claus Indiana, which is home to 2500 people, the origin to the name
or vague, but it's been Santa Claus for over 125 years now.
So who cares?
They're just going to keep it Santa Claus.
Our forecast to WRJN for everyone in the Racine area, rain and snow showers this morning
with a high-deer 41 for tonight, cloudy with a low around 30 partly sunny, a beautiful
day tomorrow with a high-deer 39, 35 degrees with wet
snow and drizzle falling right now, just drive carefully, the roads are wet, could be a
little slick and careful walking on the sidewalks, too, as long as you do a man.
I'm Don Rose and you're at WRJN, 1400 AM, 99.9 FM and 98.1 FM in Kenosha, hometown radio
refreshed, a civic media station, thanks for joining us this morning, we're going to talk
about cultural activities going on in Racine with Nick Ramsey at 706.
Children's theme, snow is softly falling, dreams are calling, like bells in the distance,
we were dreamers, not so long ago, but one by one we all had to grow when it seems
the magic slipped as John Scrobin's skipping there from the movie The Polar Express.
What a great movie, I'll play that again later for you, we'll fix that skipping there.
It's a really good movie, it's on TV a lot, but I have a 3D version on DVD.
I was in the store once and I saw it and it said 3D.
So I got it, it's got the blue and the red glasses to watch it.
And yeah, if you concentrate and you get the glasses on just right, you can see it looks
in depth, you can see the depth doesn't come out at you per se out of the screen, but it's looks
like you can reach into the screen and it works.
It's kind of annoying to wear those cardboard glasses, but I got it, it was like five bucks
so I bought it.
And so yeah, I have it, it also comes to the regular version where you don't need the glasses as well.
That's kind of nice.
Hey, Nick Ramsey's coming up right after seven o'clock, he's involved in a lot of cultural events going on
in the Racine area and we're going to talk about that straight ahead.
Tomorrow's our big anniversary show.
Yeah, we turn, it begins our 98th year on this planet.
A lot of AM radio stations are turning 100 now, a lot of the older ones.
And we're one of them.
My first station turns 100 next year.
We turn 102 years.
So that's happening because a lot of these radio stations came out of the 1920s, mid 20s.
And WRJN is one of them, one of the oldest stations in the state there is.
There are one or two older ones.
I think K F I Z and Fonda Lack may be older and W H A in Delafield.
I think that might be older too.
I got to check on that.
But I think we're up there on the top few that are the oldest stations in Wisconsin.
So we're going to be here tomorrow celebrating the beginning of year number 98.
We've got a lot of past people.
They're going to join us on the air.
They recorded some announcements and we'll play those.
We've got Tom Carco, Channel Hofkart, Volman, Evolman will be in the studio with us.
And it should be a nice discussion for a couple of hours about the radio stations history.
Tom and Jan know so much about the history more than I do.
And we'll talk about the origins of WRJN, how it got started and where it is today.
All 98 years later, 98 years.
That's a long time.
Anyway, so we'll talk about that.
That's our anniversary show tomorrow.
If you miss it tomorrow, there's two other ways to listen to it.
It'll be podcast later on tomorrow.
And we'll re-broadcast it on Christmas morning.
So you have a chance to hear it tomorrow podcast or Christmas morning at 6.53 at WRJN radio.
35 degrees of wet snow drizzle mixture out there now.
Rain and snow showers most of the day.
Today with a high near 41 cloudy with the low around 30 tonight and partly sunny with a high near 39 degrees tomorrow.
Got some Christmas on but true stories here.
The X in Xmas people write Xmas is not a modern abbreviation.
It dates back to the 16th century.
It's based on the Greek letter Chi C H I which looks like the letter X.
The first letter in the translations of Christ into English.
Rudolph the Red Nose reindeer created in 1939 by the Montgomery Ward department store.
It's a way to save money.
They'd buy coloring books to pass out at Christmas time and figured it would be cheaper to print their own books with an original character than keeping buying them.
And of course the original character was Rudolph.
And the first song ever played on the radio in the history of broadcasting was in 1906.
And that song on Christmas Eve was a holy night.
There you go. Christmas odd with trues.
There were some tips to keep you safe during the holidays.
Coordinate with your neighbors if you're having packages delivered.
So they're not sitting out for hours.
You know, used to be had a sign for a package.
They don't do that anymore.
Remember that used to sign if you weren't home.
They brought it back.
You had to pick it up or have another delivery man.
Now they just throw it on your porch.
Let's see.
If your Christmas tree is on display next to an open window.
Don't put presents under it until Christmas day.
And make an emergency plan what to do.
Fire breaks out anywhere in your home.
First of all, get a fire extinguisher.
You should have one in your house.
We have a couple of them.
Odd but true, you promised that you wouldn't use Apple Music's app to make nuclear or chemical weapons.
And you never realized it.
There's actually a line in the terms and conditions when you agree to Apple's music app.
And it says you agree you will not post plans for nuclear or chemical weapons.
I wasn't going to do it anyway.
A survey asked people to name the most annoying phone and social media things we deal with around the holidays.
You're the top 10.
They include people showing off their gifts on Facebook.
Friends and family who start huge group texts.
People taking too long to open presents because they won't stop snapping photos.
We take a long time because we argue who's going to be next?
Who's going to open theirs next?
I don't like the open presents.
So I'm always saying you open one that.
No, you open one now.
No, you open one now.
That goes on for a while.
Let's see.
Someone created a limited edition serial called Big Fruit Loop.
Hey, that's a great Christmas gift.
It's one giant 930 calorie fruit loop inside the boxes are sold online for 1999 if you can still get them.
One fruit loop in one box.
Okay.
Husband wrote love notes inside his wife shoes for six years before she finally noticed them.
She said she called to thank him.
That's when he told her he's been writing notes inside her shoes since the day they got married six years ago.
And the video she pulled out another pair and this one said, if your feet get tired, I will carry you.
Oh, that's nice.
Didn't you get, you know, a little bit, you know, thinking about it when.
You know, he didn't get any response from putting those notes in for six years.
A figure, you know, he would think about that, but I guess he didn't.
All right, let's see what we're doing here.
It's a 657 at WRJN radio at 706, just a few minutes from now.
We have got Nick Ramsey coming in and talking about some cultural events going on in Racine.
Not only during the holiday season, but all year long, we'll talk about that.
That's all straight ahead at WRJN hometown radio refreshed.
We've got rain.
It's no shower is with a high-tier 41 today.
Tonight lows around 30 partly sunny with a high-tier 39 degrees for tomorrow.
Right now, we've got 35 degrees with a wet snowy drizzle.
We'll have some local news coming up as compiled by Stuart J. Wattles in our news center.
That's coming up to in the next hour right here at WRJN.
Thank you.
