The Don Rosen Show (Hour 1)

The Don Rosen Show · Tue Nov 28, 2023

Hey, usually start happening when you start doing the holidays at your house, instead of your parents' house.

My parents, they downsize into a two-bedroom town owned.

They still want to do Thanksgiving in their house, but they don't have the room for us.

There's 20 of us. It's like a college kid being like, you don't do Christmas in my dorm room?

There's a table for four, and then they have to put a train of TV trays and nightstands that just weaves down this hallway.

I'm just sitting on stairs. We made the kids go eat in the car.

We just go back in the car. You can't even eat inside.

My mom didn't have ketchup. I was like, everybody just has ketchup. It just comes in houses.

If I wanted some alcoholics house, you would have ketchup. It's no family would be gone.

But I would say, do you have ketchup? I'm not that gone, man.

Come on, it's lovely when the first lady ran together with you.

Outside this show is falling in fence upon you.

Come on, it's lovely when the first lady ran together with you.

Giddy up, giddy up, giddy up, let's go. Let's look at the show.

We'll live in the wonderland of the show.

Giddy up, giddy up, giddy up, it's right. Just told you your hand.

We'll glide along with the sound of a word.

Family, lunch, you turn nice and rosy and cup because you're new.

First I go up together like the birds of a feather with me.

Let's take that road before as I sing a chorus or two.

Come on, it's lovely when the first lady ran together with you.

There's a birthday party at the home of fire with me.

It'll be the perfect ending of the perfect day.

We'll listen to the songs we love to sing without a single stop.

At the fire wish while we watch the chance dance by.

There's a happy feeling, nothing in the world can fly.

When the bass around the coffee and the bomb can fly.

It'll nearly be like a picture book by career and I.

These wonderful games are the nature.

Remember all day, why not come to those?

Ain't nothing at all.

We can dig, dig, dig.

Come on, it's lovely when the first lady ran together with you.

Outside the snow is falling in front of all you.

Come on, it's lovely when the first lady ran together with you.

I can't beat Andy Williams to Christmas time, can you?

He is, Mr. Christmas.

Yeah.

Andy Williams kick off the show this morning in a good mood.

It's Christmas time.

Everybody's got their Christmas lights out and some people really do it well.

I don't do it well because I didn't grow up with Christmas lights.

So I've never hung them on the house.

I tried once and I didn't want to kill myself on a ladder so I didn't do it again.

But we kind of decorate the inside of my house.

My wife just decorated beautifully.

What she did was she put up these Christmas village homes, you know,

the ceramic Christmas village homes and when you plug them in,

they light up and things move on the inside of them.

She put down this giant white cotton pad that looks like snow.

And she did a great job on it.

She really did.

She always makes our house look very Christmassy.

Cool.

Kudos there.

She did it while I was sleeping.

So when I woke up, I woke up in Santa's village.

When the sun came up.

Yeah.

She did a great job on that.

Love Christmas time.

I'm Don Rosen.

Good morning.

It's 610 at WRJN.

We have a clear sky now in 14 degrees.

Pretty cold out.

But things will get a little better.

Increasing cloudy.

This with a hundred twenty six today.

Becoming mostly clear tonight.

It was 21 in sunshine tomorrow.

With a high near.

Hold on.

Don't get panicky.

Forty degrees.

Hey, coming up at seven o'clock this morning.

Got a very special show for you.

We have got Jim Bersier and Carol G and forte Kimmingham.

And for people that have gone through their shows

at the Golden Rendell Theater.

They know who they are.

They present the series of popular nostalgic programs

over the past 10 years growing up in Racine as baby boomers

in the 50s and the 60s.

These shows have held mainly at the Golden Rendell every few years.

But they're also held at Roma Lodge.

They received public library over 7,000 people have attended.

At no charge.

They never charged to go to the shows.

And they'll tell us all about the topics they did.

A little bit about themselves.

And they'll be back here on a regular basis.

So we'll cover as much as we can in one hour today.

But they'll be back.

Jim Bersier and Carol G and forte.

That's at seven o'clock this morning.

Here at WRJN.

All right.

Denying Thanksgiving leftovers.

Well, seven percent of people are still eating them.

But food scientists now say we should wrap it up.

You're never ending Thanksgiving leftovers.

You should probably end today.

There is some flexibility on this,

depending on the type of food.

But be careful.

That smell test is not 100 percent reliable.

And you shouldn't push anything with meat and dairy.

Also, thank you.

Thanksgiving dishes may spoil faster than others,

because you probably left them out of the table

longer than typical dishes.

So wrap it up with that Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is, I've got a poll here.

You go to a lot of weddings.

All right.

And you know the rude people are weddings, right?

You know who they are.

You know the brother-in-law that never follows the rules.

Okay.

Here are some wedding etiquette rules of the rudest people out there.

These are the rudest people.

Not RSVP, yes or no.

I mean, they have to pay for your place.

And sometimes it's expensive.

So you've got to tell them so they pay for it.

The dress code is formal, but you show up wearing jeans.

79 percent of people say that's inappropriate.

Wearing something fancier or more extravagant than the bridal couple.

Getting too drunk.

74 percent say that's rude.

Seven percent of neutral.

Nineteen percent think it's okay.

So one in five of us think you should expect drunk people

at your weddings.

That's sad.

Giving a speech without permission.

74 percent of people think that's rude.

In other words, the microphone's being tossed to people.

Who were supposed to give speeches to the bride in the groom.

You grab the microphone.

You're drunken, drunken rage and start bemoaning the wedding

and be raiding people.

And that's not good.

You'll never get invited back to another wedding.

Now this has never happened to me.

Maybe it's happened to you before.

A cashier in Michigan accidentally sold a guy ten sets of lottery numbers

instead of one.

The guy said no problem.

I'll keep him.

He paid for him.

Happens that the ninth set of numbers on the ticket paid him $25,000 for life.

He opted for the lump sum of $390,000.

Again, has that ever happened to you?

Only once did they actually run two sets of numbers for me.

And you don't want to say no because what if?

Like this guy.

What if?

So you always take that extra set.

This is sort of a feel good story.

Not a sort of.

It is a feel good story.

A new station in Cincinnati did a big story on a girl named Raven Whitaker Smith.

She got sent to the principal's office back in the sixth grade in a change to her life.

Seems she was throwing yogurt at people at lunch.

So her principal asked how she'd behave at a restaurant.

Her answer was she didn't know.

She had never ever been to a restaurant before.

Up to that point, she'd spent most of her childhood in foster care.

But everything changed when the principal decided to adopt her.

They adopted her in 2017.

She's now studying social work at the University of Kentucky.

Isn't it great?

A one person can change your life forever.

And this case for the good.

Hey, how come this piano never went up for auction?

This is odd, but true.

The piano, the Federer Freddie Mercury played when he was a member of Queen.

And recording Bohemian Rhapsody is the same piano.

Palmer Cardi played when the Beatles recorded Hey Jude.

That piano's got to have some value.

This is not a bad idea.

I'm going to tell you about it.

First, you're going to say, oh, that's a dumb idea.

But when you think about it, it's not a bad idea.

This mom went viral for planning her third annual gift wrapping getaway at a hotel.

She books two nights and wraps gifts while she watches television,

orders take out drink spear and gets a break from the kids.

So when are you going to order your hotel stay for wrapping gifts?

That's not a bad idea when you think about it.

You got to get away from it occasionally.

And she loves wrapping gifts.

And she does it over two days at a hotel.

Not the dumbest idea I ever heard.

I got another poll here.

They found people use baby talk.

When they talk to their pets more than they talk to actual babies.

The top term we use for pets is whittle.

Like you're so whittling cute.

Then the words potty booboo night night.

And whoopsie.

I used to use potty.

You know, we had to get chester our dog out.

It's like, come on time to go potty.

Let's go go potty.

Like he knew what we were talking about.

Some idiot in California, Northern California,

got caught with a fake license plate on his car.

Now it was obviously fake.

And the dumbest part was he added the fake expiration sticker to with a date

that was actually expired, which caught the.

I didn't know the cops as well.

Shope his news.

Bradley Cooper says he would do another hangover movie,

but he doesn't think it will happen.

He said in the movie about Linda Bernstein called My Stro.

And I didn't see the reviews, but I heard the reviews are just wonderful for this film.

So and Bradley Cooper happens to be a really good actor.

Did you hear the time he saved the.

He saved the life.

Oh, what's your name?

Oh, I can't think of her name.

Maybe I think of the name later.

It was she was a young actress.

Now she's mature actress.

Oh, I just thought of her name.

It just went that out of my head.

She was in the blue lagoon.

I can't think of her name.

Pretty baby.

And he said, anyway, he saved your life.

She was happy.

She lived a few houses down from him.

And she passed out and they called him.

He brought her back to life.

They were Bradley Cooper.

I'll think of him just as such with a bee.

And I can't think of the name over.

Ozzy Osborne says he's got about 10 more years left at best.

He wants to do one more concert for his fans.

Now, we heard that Hall and Oates.

One of them got a restraining order against the other recently.

And now Darryl Hall is suing John Oates.

And the attempt to prevent him prevent him from selling his share of whole Oates Enterprises.

And remember, I told you the other day they're looking for the next karate kid.

You don't have to have acting experience, but you have to know something about martial arts.

The open casting call for karate kid sequel has already received over 10,000 entries.

Now, I assume they have to go through all 10,000.

I mean, they don't have to bring the people in, but they've, you know, got to at least talk to them.

We'll go over their resumes at least, right?

And the 97th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has its largest TV audience ever

with 28.5 million viewers.

I love it.

Now, since I'm here on the air, I tape it.

And I watch it back when I get home.

I DVR it didn't tape anything now it is.

I DVR it.

And I got to tell you something.

I love that show.

That's such a great show.

And this year, the floats were beyond fantastic.

I don't know how they do it, but they, they, they see, they make it better every year.

This year's share was part of the show.

And normally they don't let these people sing a full song.

They give them a little like 30 seconds.

They moved their float along.

Share got to sing the whole song.

They had this fake.

It looked like an ice skating rink she was standing up.

But it wasn't ice ice.

And she sang her whole song.

Now, I can't tell if she did it live or not.

I'm not sure.

But it was great.

She looked great.

She sounded great.

And it was fantastic.

They got a great time watching that parade.

It's, let's say 618 at WRJN increasing cloniness today with a high air 26 becoming mostly

clear tonight.

Lowes around 21 sunny.

40 the high tomorrow.

It sounds a lot warmer than 14, which we have now under a clear sky.

Got a full moon out there this morning too.

It's really shining bright.

I'm Don Rosen.

You're at WRJN radio.

Keep it here.

Here are some more of those chestnuts.

I'll be home for this year.

You can plan for me.

Please have snow and mistletoe and presents on the tree.

Christmas Eve will finally.

We're the love I believe.

I'll be home for Christmas if only in my dream.

Please have snow and mistletoe and presents on the tree.

It's 622 at WRJN.

I'm Don Rosen.

Thanks for joining us here at home town radio.

We're a fresh civic radio.

We're at 1400 am 99.49 FM and 98.1 FM.

Open the phone lines.

I will.

And our phone number is 262634 WRJN 262634 9756.

What's the worst Christmas present you ever got?

Some of the best ones we heard about.

An unemployed guy got a sack of job application from his parents.

That's not a bad idea.

A seven year old who got a dust buster who couldn't vacuum the stairs easily.

A great ad who gave out a VHS tape of her caretakers funeral.

Those are some good presents.

What's the worst Christmas present you ever got?

Give us a call.

262634 9756 262634 WRJN.

If you can think of one, I don't think I ever got a bad Christmas present.

I mean, I got presents that I really couldn't put to use, but they weren't bad.

I didn't get a job application from my parents.

I thought that was good.

And by the way, when you do get a bad Christmas present, how do you react?

40% of people in a new survey said they fake it.

They pretend they like it.

The survey also found the average bad gift cost about $68.

That's not cheap.

25% of people have bought someone a gift they knew the person probably wouldn't like.

That's kind of mean.

Yeah, I kind of fake.

I think everybody does.

If you're smart, you'll fake it.

You'll say, oh, that's really nice.

Very thoughtful of you.

Thank you very much.

I needed that back brace.

Thank you.

Actually, it wouldn't be a bad idea.

Okay, 262, 634, 975, 626, 262, 634, WRJN.

What's the worst Christmas present you ever got?

And how did you react when you got it?

Did you do the old Fickaroo?

Give us a call.

These are the top three things that cause arguments at the office.

Are you ready?

The temperature.

People can never, it's too hot.

It's too cold.

I've been in those offices.

So many stinky food.

If this radio station years ago, our receptionist went to Wendy's

and got this sandwich with tons of onions on it.

And it just ripped through the office.

It was terrible.

And being too loud on phone calls.

Yeah, that happens.

Nowadays, with cell phones, you get to hear the whole conversation.

They put you on speakerphone.

I hear people walking down the street in front of my house

with their phone down with the speakerphone.

I can hear the whole conversation.

Everything that's going on.

A survey asked 2,000 people why they regifted something in the past.

Have you ever done that regift something?

I don't think I've ever done that.

I'm trying to think.

The top answers were, I just didn't like the gift.

I couldn't use it.

I already owned one.

And I thought someone else would like it more.

Well, that's a good, that's good.

If someone would appreciate the gift more, maybe that's a good idea to regift.

Yeah.

Have you ever regifted something?

I had that to the conversation this morning.

2, 6, 2, 6, 3, 4, 9, 7, 5, 6, 2, 6, 2, 6, 3, 4, WRJN.

A nine-year-old, when viral after her older brother tweeted the photo of her letter to Santa,

where she had met she had been naughty and deserves that lump of coal,

but asked for a ton of expensive gifts anyway.

Her list included AirPods, a PlayStation 5,

and a panda and a penguin, not dead.

She said she wants them alive.

All right.

That'll do.

Okay.

New year's coming up too.

It's time to believe we only have a little over a month before we start 2024.

That ought to be some year.

43% of us planned to make a New Year's resolution.

That's up from 35% last year.

The most common ones exercise eating less and saving money.

Yeah, yeah, blah, blah, blah.

84% of people who make a resolution last year claim

that they've at least somewhat stuck to it.

You can't somewhat stick to it.

You do what you don't.

All right.

Two, six, two, six, three, four, nine, seven, five, six,

two, six, two, six, three, four, WRJN.

If you've got a story you want to tell about any of those things we've been talking about.

Okay.

How many employees would Santa need on Christmas Eve to deliver presents

to every Christian kid worldwide, you know,

without the magic of Christmas?

Representative some FedEx and UPS actually got together and crunched the numbers.

Santa would need 12 million employees to pull it off.

12 million.

It's 627 at WRJN.

I've got a whole bunch.

You know, I found this list here.

I made this list about 10 years ago.

And it was in a drawer here at the radio station.

And nobody ever threw it out.

Let me get me ever open that drawer since I left nine years ago.

But here it is.

In Frosty the snowman, who brought Frosty back to life?

Now a lot of people watch the show.

You know, the Frosty the snowman show on TV.

And but you know the answer to that.

Who brought Frosty back to life?

And I have to look up the answer because I don't know.

Santa Claus.

Santa Claus brought Frosty back to life.

Oh, here it is.

These are the answers here.

Okay.

In the movie, it's a wonderful life.

We've all seen it, right?

A million times.

Who lost $8,000 in the movie?

It's a wonderful life.

Remember you lost it?

That was Uncle Billy.

Remember?

All right.

And how the Grinch stole Christmas?

What biological shortcoming made the Grinch so mean?

His heart.

There's two sizes.

Too small.

Did I didn't know that?

Who tells you she's in town by tap, tap, tap.

And by tap, tap, tap and at your window pane.

The answer to that?

Suzy snowflake.

I didn't know that one.

What's the biggest selling Christmas single of all time?

This I knew.

The biggest selling Christmas single of all time.

You know what it is?

It's white Christmas.

Yeah.

And if I was smart, I'd be playing white Christmas right now.

What is Scrooge's first name?

Everybody knows that.

Ebenezer.

Where was I when I saw Mama kissing Santa Claus?

That's interesting.

On the staircase.

Whoever goes on the stairs.

Up, up on top.

Somebody says something.

That's like that.

All right.

Look at this more of those later on.

Some of them are pretty good.

I tried to look at them because I didn't know

some of these answers.

I'm Don Rose and you're at WRJN Radio.

It's 6.29.

Good morning.

Christmas.

Tories in every store.

But the pretty estate to see,

Is the honey that will be on your own front door.

A pair of hopper and boots in a pencil that

changes the least shit funny and then.

Does it look like talking more

Gopher walk as a hope of genocide and

Mama knock in hardly wait for school to start again.

It's beginning to look like Christmas.

Tories in every store.

But the pretty estate to see,

Is the honey that will be on your own front door.

A pair of hopper and boots in a pencil that

changes the least shit funny and then.

Does it look like Christmas.

Tories in every store.

But the pretty estate to see,

Is the honey that will be on your own front door.

A pair of hopper and boots in a pencil that

changes the least shit funny and then.

Good morning, kids.

636 at WRGN.

I'm Don Rosen.

Looking for increasing cloniness today.

Highest near 26, becoming mostly clear tonight.

Lows around 21 sunshine with high near 40 tomorrow.

Right now a clear sky and 14 degrees.

It was cold when.

That's morning.

It really got me by surprise.

Coming up at 7 o'clock this morning,

Jim Vasear and Carol G.

and Forte are going to be here.

They presented a series of popular

nostalgic programs over the past 10 years

about growing up in Racine as baby boomers,

baby boomers in the 1950s and 1960s.

He's held mainly at the Golden Rondale Theatre

every few years.

But they've been at Roma Lodge and the

live public library.

They did one outside the public library,

which I went to.

7,000 people have attended their shows

for absolutely no charge.

Free.

Let's tell us all about that.

Coming up at 7 o'clock this morning.

Here at WRGN Radio.

Thank you for joining us here.

If you want to call in this morning

and talk about how your Thanksgiving went

or maybe you want to talk about that Christmas present

that you didn't like, how you reacted to it.

And did you ever re-gift a gift for somebody?

Remember that famous Seinfeld episode?

The re-gifting?

Did you ever re-gift?

Give us a call 262-634-975-6262-634-WRGN.

That's our phone number to call.

We've got some Christmas songs,

odd but true.

This is interesting.

Now, we mentioned Bing Crossby's White Christmas

is the biggest selling song of all time.

However, did you know it was used

as a coded message during the Vietnam War?

It was played over American radio signals

in April of 1975 to let US troops know

the city of Saigon had been lost.

You know the song Dominic the Donkey?

Well, it has possible times to the mob

in the Mafia.

Rumor has it.

The original studio recording was financed

by the Gambino crime family.

Carlo Gambino lived in my hometown growing up,

lived on the other side of town,

but he was there.

It's where he passed away in my hometown too.

He's watching New York Yankees game when he just

killed over.

I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

originally marketing as a,

marketed as a ploy.

Sax 5th Avenue commissioned it back in 1952

for an ad campaign to sell greeting cards.

And they must have sold a lot

that December hit number one of the billboard charts.

I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.

It was originally done by a kid named Jimmy Boyd,

a little Jimmy Boyd to sit on the label.

He went on to become a mature actor

as an adult.

He started a co-starred with Spencer Tracy

and Frederick March in the Oscar winning

in Herethal Wind.

So he went on to bigger and better things.

I don't know if he's still alive or not.

Jimmy Boyd.

He might be.

Okay, scientists in Europe actually

bothered to do a scientific study on why

Rudolph's nose is red.

They found that the average reindeer has

a higher concentration of red blood cells

and their nose is more than humans.

And Rudolph's must have been even higher than that.

Those extra cells help prevent freezing

and regulate the brain temperature,

which makes him the ideal candidate to pull the sled.

You're telling me that's what scientists in Europe had to do?

There's spare time.

I guess we solved and discovered all the cures for diseases.

Now they're working on Rudolph's nose.

The average family will spend more than seven

and a half hours in the car together

traveling during this holiday season.

And most of them, yes, they will fight.

The most common road trip fight is over backsy driving

and the driver's driving style.

Number two, a kid's arguing.

Number three is over what to listen to on the radio.

Well, that's easy.

If you're a listening range, us, if you're not,

go Bluetooth your phone.

And put us on the radio.

Stream us.

We can do that.

Harris Interactive conducted a huge holiday poll.

They wanted to find out what the favorite Christmas movie was out there.

And believe it or not, number one was a Christmas story.

But not by much.

20% of people chose that one.

19% went with.

It's a wonderful life.

We had, and I have a picture of it.

We had one of the co-stars of that movie

in the studio here with us.

We took some pictures out in the lobby.

It was the kid who played Ralphie's brother in the film.

I can't remember his name, but he played Ralphie's brother

in the Christmas story.

And he was in town.

I guess there was showing it.

Excuse me at Memorial Hall.

And he was a special introductory guest star.

Yeah.

So he was actually here in this building.

I hate to call him, you know, the brother of Ralphie in the movie

because I can't remember his name.

I don't think he went on to act in anything else.

I'll look him up on IMDB during the break and tell you.

Yeah, can you imagine driving with all those kids

for seven and a half hours in the car?

I took my parents once on a road trip.

This was in the year 2000.

My dad always gave money to the Crazy Horse Monument

in South Dakota.

He got involved in the building of that thing.

And he donated a lot of money.

And I arranged for the woman, the daughter of a guy

who started building the Crazy Horse Monument out there,

the largest 3D monument in the world.

It's a carving.

And I drove them out to South Dakota.

If I got to tell you, that was probably not one of my best ideas

I ever had.

I'm dealing with two people who are about, you know,

they're 80 years old.

We're driving in a car.

Now, I did arrange that stops along the way

and do different things.

We stopped in the badlands.

We stopped at different places along the way.

But my mother was cooped in in the back of the car.

And my father decided, I want the radio off.

So now there was dead quiet in the car.

And you're driving on these prairie roads.

They really have nothing to look at for, you know, 60 or 70 miles.

I also drove them to Florida.

When they moved down to Florida, I drove from New York to Florida.

And I got to tell you, it's a trip.

But I'm glad I did it.

Remember when you were kids, you'd go crazy over Christmas presents.

But now as adults, here's what we look forward to at Christmas time.

Spending time with family and friends.

58% of people said that.

All any dinners and parties, finding and giving presents,

putting up decorations and watching TV specials and hearing holiday songs on the radio.

What's your favorite TV special?

Now, when it comes to TV specials, these are not movies on TV.

These are shows that were actually designed for television.

I think most people would say a Charlie Brown Christmas.

I like a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, too, by the way.

Now, you can't watch them anymore unless you pay for it,

because Apple TV bought them.

Or unless you're like, I am.

And I have them on DVD.

And also, I think I have VHS copies of them.

So I can watch them whenever I feel like it.

But that's the problem.

When you don't have your own copies on DVD or Blu-ray,

you know, you're at the mercy of these streaming services,

charging you to watch them.

That's why people say, you still have DVDs?

Yeah, how much are you paying to watch Charlie Brown this year?

I'm paying nothing.

I just pop in my DVD and I watch a Charlie Brown Christmas.

So I love doing that.

I have the Charlie Brown Halloween one that's a great pumpkin Charlie Brown.

I got the Thanksgiving one and I've got the Christmas one.

And I love them.

They're pretty good specials.

I know there's somebody in this company who's a vice president of this company.

And I think he said Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer is his favorite one.

I think that's what he said.

And he put it up on Facebook and he said, you know, I'm not a nerd.

They'll make fun of me.

But I think I think it was Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.

He's a vice president of this company.

That's what you put on Facebook, which is fine.

It brings back memories and so forth.

I didn't like those rank and bass cartoons.

I was in a big fan of those.

The Santa Claus one of Rudolph and Frosty the snowman.

But I did like the Charlie Brown ones.

And then there's the Grinch that stole Christmas, the animated one, not the Jim Carrey movie,

but the animated one.

And they're out there.

You know, they bring back memories.

You know, when I'm getting out of the library, I put my reservation in for it.

The Andy Williams Christmas TV specials.

So I grew up watching all those specials on TV.

They do some of them now, but they don't do a lot like they used to.

Remember the Bing Crosby had a Christmas special.

Then you had Andy Williams with his Christmas special.

The osmonds had their Christmas special, although they were part of the Andy Williams one.

But the later on they went to have their own Frank Sinatra even had Christmas specials.

They were great.

They don't have many more.

They have some of them, but they don't do them like they used to.

They do have one coming up that I watch every year.

It is the NBC.

It's at Rockefeller Center, Rockefeller Plaza.

Where they light the big Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center.

And they turned that into a big TV spectacular with a lot of artists and so forth.

And some of it's done live.

Most of it's done live.

Some they have to pre record, but they do it live.

And then they like to treat when I was a kid growing up in New York.

We used to go in a Christmas time to look at that tree.

And you can see it on TV, but you can't.

It's huge.

And then when you go down there,

they have the ice skating rink with the big statue of Prometheus in Rockefeller Center.

But I think the most fun part was to watch the living windows at Lord and tailors.

This is on Fifth Avenue.

What you do is you walk down the street and it takes them all year to do it.

And they have these giant windows.

Most of the years, just different items in there if they sell on the store, Lord and Taylor.

But at Christmas time, they turned them into living windows with animated characters, you know, robotic characters.

Now this is back in the 60s.

They've kind of, they made them better over the years, but there was a line of people going down Fifth Avenue

and used to walk down the street and look at these living windows in the freezing cold I might add.

Then you got online to go to Radio City Music Hall to watch a movie.

And they had family-friendly movies.

They were in all holiday movies at Radio City, but you got to go.

You saw the movie.

You saw the Rockets on stage.

You saw a circus act.

You heard the organ play.

It was all for like a buck and a half, even into the 70s, when they were still showing movies at Radio City Music Hall.

Mostly every charge was like two bucks to get in during the before 12 noon.

But this was our regular Christmas going into the city and watching all these things go around.

And you know, now you can go down to Monument Square.

You're in Racine.

And they got the Christmas tree down there.

This tree is not a real tree this year.

I'm going to tell you something.

Looks pretty good.

I like it.

Yeah, it's a nice Christmas tree they have.

And I think Kelly Cruz from the DRC, Downtown Racine Corporation is going to be in tomorrow.

We'll talk more about that.

And they had that nice Christmas ceremony going on there at downtown when they lit the tree.

That's very nice.

They have good Christmas.

And you go down downtown.

They have all the lights on the post.

They have the wreaths on the trees and everything.

It's really nice.

And no matter what town you go in, every town's got their own Christmas traditions.

And they do a good job of it.

It's 7.40s, 6.57.

And when I talk to them, 6.47 at WRJ.

Increasing cloudy this today.

Highs reaching near 26.

Becoming clear tonight.

Close around 21 tomorrow.

Sunning with a 100 or 40 right now.

A clear sky.

Bundle up today.

Coming up, we've got a jimmer searing carolgy and forte.

We're going to talk about growing up in Racine.

We're in the 50s and the 60s.

A lot of people can relate to that.

They'll be here in just a few moments.
