The Don Rosen Show · Mon Nov 27, 2023

You ever run a movie that was released a while ago

and you enjoy it, but there's kind of that awkwardness

because you can't talk about it with anyone?

Hey, I just saw a heat.

A heat I saw that 12 years ago.

Yeah, I wanna talk about it now.

Oh, loser?

Hey.

My wife and I, we go to a lot of movies.

Movies are great for dates, right?

Unless it's a movie about a serial killer.

Because then there's never an appropriate time

to make a move.

Ah, he just drank about a little girl.

Hello.

It's comfy.

We do take our movie so personally.

You like that movie?

Yeah, it's because you're stupid.

You'd be dumb to get it.

You ever talk about a movie with someone that read the book?

They're all so condescending.

Ah, the book was much better than the movie.

Oh, really?

Would I enjoy it about the movie?

No reading.

I'm gonna take two hours.

I'm gonna take a nap.

Do like, do like, do like, do like, do like.

He's so fun.

Do like, do like, do like, do like, do like.

She were mine.

Do like, do like, do like, do like.

I had some boy with me.

I had to lie with the way he did.

I don't know how I'm gonna do it.

But I'll let him make a mind.

And then later, maybe a ball

and then give him a shot.

But then I make a shot.

And then I make a shot with rubber.

And I'll let him make a mind.

And then maybe a ball.

And then later, maybe a ball.

What's the song that George Harrison got sued over

from my suite, Lord?

It wasn't this song, was it?

It was one of the songs by the chiffons.

He got sued over because it sounded like my suite, Lord.

And he had to pay out a ton of money, George Harrison.

I mean, one of the songs by the chiffons.

I can't think of the song right now.

Hey, good morning.

I'm Don Rosen.

Thank you for joining us here at 708 at WRJ and Radio.

Today, party sunny.

He said it's no flas, no flories this morning.

With a high-neared 27, party cloudy tonight,

lows around 15, increasing cloudy this tomorrow, highs near 27.

When it came in, the skies were perfectly clear

and now they're perfectly cloudy.

It's a cloudy and 21 degrees around receipt right now.

And I want to mention tomorrow coming in.

You're going to love this.

You've got to be here tomorrow at seven o'clock.

Well, you should be here all the time.

Tomorrow at seven o'clock, Jim Mercer and Carol,

Gene Fortay are going to be here.

They presented a series of popular nostalgic shows

over the last 10 years about growing up in Racine

as baby boomers in the 1950s and the 1960s held mainly

at the Golden Rondell Theater every few years.

They've also been at Roma Lodge, the library outside the library.

I have a photo with that because I attended that.

Over 7,000 people have attended free to all their shows.

They never charge.

And tomorrow they're going to tell us all about the topics

of these programs.

I've been to, I think every one of them.

Pretty sure every one of those shows and they are amazing.

Now I didn't grow up in Racine, but I still find them amazing.

It's fun to see the city you live in and what it was like back

in the 50s, the 60s and they themed them out.

Like they'll do downtown stores.

They'll do scooping the loop, which was something specific

for the downtown area for Racine.

They will do the drive-ins and theaters,

which I really found interesting.

They'll do the stores all around the,

they have a different theme every time.

They did the fourth and the last one they did was the

4th of July parade over the years.

And I find them fascinating.

And you're going to love hearing from Jim Messier and Carol

Gianforte.

And they'll be in here tomorrow morning in the studio at seven

o'clock and we'll be on a regular basis coming in to talk

about Racine's history.

And if you grew up in Racine, you're going to love hearing

about it.

And like me, if you didn't grow up in Racine, you're still

going to enjoy it.

It's that good.

And I enjoy going to these shows.

I just take my mother to the shows at the Golden Rondale.

She loved them and she didn't grow up here either.

But she loved them.

It's just fun seeing the way things were back in the 50s.

The 60s.

They had these pictures.

They have great pictures.

And they have guests in the presentations.

People who either were part of the history or whose parents

or relatives were part of the history.

For example, they had won about Kittyland, which was down

by the unwrites on Rapids Drive by the dam over there.

And they used to be Kittyland.

And they had pictures of it.

They actually had the woman who actually ran the Ferris Wheel

when she was 10 years old.

Can you imagine running a Ferris Wheel when you're 10 years old?

And she came up to speak about Kittyland.

Her parents owned it.

And you see the pictures of how vibrant it was.

People on the rides and just having a great time at Kittyland.

Then they show you the picture of the way it is today.

Just grass.

And there is a sign there.

And my wife and I went down to look for the sign.

And we found it eventually.

And it says this was the original site of Kittyland.

And it mentions all about Kittyland on the sign.

And it's kind of sad you look around.

And you say this used to be where people brought their families.

The children used to go on all the rides.

They used to love it.

They used to wait for Kittyland to open up.

All gone.

But Jim and Carol bring back the memories of Kittyland.

See how that works?

And they bring it back to the days of when it was there.

And with so many different things,

you can't believe how many giant neon lights were downtown at one time.

I mean, you got to see what this place looked like.

I mean, it was like,

it was like living in a vibrant, exciting big city.

And of course, times change in all cities.

The big bright lights are gone and all major cities now.

They went to something a little more, you know, quite a down.

But it is so wonderful to go to their shows and you wait for them.

And it's free, but you have to make reservations because they do sell out.

When you go to the shows, just about every seat is taken.

And the nice people who come in,

who want to give you their little bit of the history of themselves.

And we'll talk about this all tomorrow.

At least they were coming in for two hours tomorrow.

But they're going to be in here like every month or so.

And we'll chat with Jim and Carol,

who do just a wonderful job.

I said, how long does it take you to put a show together?

Is it about two years?

It's not a quick thing.

I thought, well, you get together on a Saturday afternoon.

You put some together and say, nah, I think it's about two years.

First of all, they have to get the topic.

And then they've got to find the photographs.

And they always try to bring in something from that era that you can touch.

You can hold in your hand, something like that.

And the Golden Rendell Theater is just the perfect place for it.

So anyway, we'll talk to Jim and Carol tomorrow.

Hey, if you're, if you were flying for the holidays,

and if you plan to fly for Christmas and you get stuck on a layover,

it might not be the worst thing.

Listen to this story.

It's about a couple from Canada named Chris and Jen,

who met in the airport when their flights got canceled.

There was so much chemistry.

A random person asked how long they've been together.

Chris jokingly said about 48 minutes.

This all happened back in 2003.

There's a long story on how he gave up his own seat to give her the seat

so she can get through her best friends wedding on time.

But here's how the story ended.

They've been married for 17 years and have two kids together.

And they met in the airport when their flights got canceled on a layover.

It does happen.

Isn't that something?

I love that story.

Yeah.

I generally when I'm on a layover, I sit in the seat and keep my mouth shut.

I don't talk to anybody.

I hear a five presence.

You should never give a coworker.

Now a lot of times, I don't know if they do it anymore.

They used to have like a secret Santa at work.

This will do secret Santa's.

Well, if they do, here are some things you shouldn't give

a fellow coworker, a self-help book.

Perfumer Cologne.

I mentioned earlier in the last hour when I was a kid.

And Christmas time the last day before Christmas, you gave the teacher a gift.

You got like 50 bottles, 20 bottles of Cologne.

Anything that involves religion, lingerie, even if it's just a gift card

for a lingerie store like Victoria's Secret or anything used.

You probably don't want to do that for a for a secret Santa at work.

A new poll estimates that the average American does eight good deeds a month

or 94 per year.

It includes everything from being nice to strangers to donating food, clothing, and blood.

You know, people say, well, I don't do those things.

You probably do more than you think.

There are probably more good deeds because you don't think about doing them.

It's just natural for you to do these things.

Like if somebody drops something and they can't pick it up and they're, you know,

they're in a cane or a walker and you pick it up for them.

That's a good deed.

So you probably do more good deeds than you could imagine.

And bless you for doing that.

An informal study in the UK found that people who drive BMW's electric cars

and cars with vanity plates are more likely to be psychopaths.

Did you imagine somebody with a BMW that's electric and has a vanity plate?

You call security right away.

I don't know if that's true or not, but they say it is.

You want people to respect you on Facebook?

Do this one simple thing that no one has ever done before.

If someone proves you wrong or makes a salad point, admit it.

A study found that intellectually humble behavior like admitting you're wrong

tends to make people on social media like and respect you more.

Again, I don't think anybody's ever done that before.

I don't discuss politics.

I very rarely post on Facebook.

I mean, I'm in a movie Facebook page and a radio station's Facebook page.

Other than that, I don't post anything because people are going to argue with you.

And I don't want to be argued with on Facebook because you can't slap them in the face on Facebook.

I know.

I just don't want to argue.

When I first got on Facebook, I used to argue politics and stuff.

And you know what?

You can't win.

So don't even bother wasting your time.

This is odd, but true.

Who buys the most explosives in the country?

The US military, right?

That's obvious.

Who's number two on the list?

It's Walt Disney because of all the fireworks they need for all their parks.

They are the number two purchaser of explosives in America.

Again, who would have fun?

Here's another reason I don't want to move to Florida.

An alligator broke into a couple's garage in Florida last week and drank their diet coke.

It tore open a case and started ripping through the cans in their garage.

What do you leave your garage open?

I mean, what did you do there?

Why would you leave your garage open where there's alligators?

I remember when my parents lived in Florida.

I went out to the garage to get some water.

They had the bottled water out there and their slithering on the floor was a snake.

And just like Raiders of the Lost Ark, like Indiana Jones, I hate snakes.

My father came out, just picked it up and threw it out.

I said, what's going to come back?

He said, whatever he does, he does.

Yeah, the snake was slithering all over the floor.

And he had the garage door closed.

So I don't know how the snake even got in there, but he got in there.

All right, for today, partly sunny.

We got scattered flurries.

Highs near 27.

Part of cloudy tonight, lows 15.

Increasing clouds tomorrow with a high near 27.

But no snow or rain, except for those little bit of flurries today.

It's cloudy now and 21 degrees in receipt.

Eight?

I don't know what it's not eight.

It's 7-18.

I've got to learn how to read a clock.

It's 7-18 at WRJN Radio.

More coming up.

Stay right with you.

Good morning.

I'm Don Ross in 7-21 at WRJN this morning.

Don't be frightened if you see it snowing.

Just a few snow flurries today.

Later on, partly sunny after the snow flurries end with a high near 27 degrees.

And right now, we got some clouds out there and 21 degrees.

Got a cold.

Got to wear that winter coat this morning.

It's 7-21 at WRJN 1400 AM, 99 and 98.1 FM.

Home town radio refreshed.

What's the most frustrating thing you had to deal with it work on a daily basis?

If you work on a computer, it's roughly a 50-50 chance.

This is your answer.

Someone pulled 2,000 office workers almost have said it's dealing with too many emails.

48% said it's the most irritating thing they deal with on any given day.

The other top answers include too many meetings dealing with co-workers or managers

and helping customers.

You have those pasty customers who spend money who wants to deal with them.

You know, I used to get a ton of spam on my email.

And then it stopped.

And for like six months, I got one or two and now it's back to 50 a day again.

And my daughter said, you probably gave your email to somebody.

And that's, I would got out there again.

I wouldn't know how it gets unout there again because I enjoyed not having to clean out that spam thing.

If you could be your pet for one day, what's the first thing you would do?

Someone asked a bunch of pet owners and the number one answer was, play all day

and run around until you're exhausted.

Sleeping all day was the next.

And rounding out the top three was getting cozy and relaxing in your pet's favorite spot.

The third of pet owners said they wouldn't want to be their pet for a day ever.

You know, we always think our pets have it nice, but they have their worries.

And you know, when you leave the house, I'll bet your pet is worried that you won't come back.

You ever walk into a house after being gone all day and see their reaction?

They're so happy you're home.

Who knows if they thought you would never come back again and leave them?

We don't know.

So maybe being a pet's not all that good.

If you had a billion, if I gave you $1 billion,

and I told you you have to spend $1,000 a day,

how long do you think it would take you to run out of money?

This is really interesting.

Okay, if you had a billion and you spend $1,000 a day,

it would take you about 2,740 years to run out of money.

I'd like to try it.

Give me a billion.

I'll spend $1,000 a day.

I'll give it a test run and see how it works.

What else do we have for you?

Ah, good news and bad news time.

A new study found that a chemical in black licorice could help fight pancreatic cancer.

I hate black licorice.

But the research is still early and eating too much of it could be bad for your heart.

So, do you want to prevent the cancer?

Or do you want to die of a heart attack from eating it?

What's your call?

A video in viral last year when a Bergen King worker got a lame bag,

a gift bag after working 27 years without missing a day.

A story blew up after somebody launched a GoFundMe campaign to start a retirement fund for them.

A person was back in the news not too long ago.

The New York Post did an update.

The fundraisers are still going recently across $400,000.

They don't tell you what the lame gift was.

Probably a bag of fries or something, onion rings.

Everybody knows you can visit the Abbey Road in England

and recreate the album that the Beatles had on their album cover.

The Abbey Road album.

I see a lot of the people who create that all the time.

Ultimateclassicrock.com

but together a list of other rock album locations to add to your bucket list.

For example, you remember the surf and safari album with the Beach Boys?

That was filmed at Paradise Gov in California.

The Hotel California Eagles album was filmed at the Beverly Hills Hotel in California.

The Wish You Were Here Pink Floyd album was filmed at the Warner Brothers Studios.

The picture for the Joshua Tree YouTube album,

now you probably thought it was taking a Joshua Tree National Park.

It's actually taking not too far away, close to the Death Valley National Park.

And Rocky Mountain High, the John Denver album,

slaughterhouse falls in the Rio Grande Trail in Aspen, Colorado.

That's where that was filmed.

Nothing filmed closer to Wisconsin, huh?

Like in Illinois or somewhere.

I can recreate the picture.

Hey, you want to find happiness?

All right.

There's a new wellness practice called Death Meditation,

which involves wrapping yourself in sheets like a mummy

and imagining yourself dead.

Supposedly it helps with anxiety and boost happiness.

I can't imagine how, but they claim it works.

Tropicana created the first breakfast cereal

you're supposed to pour orange juice on instead of milk.

It's called Tropicana Crunch.

Unfortunately, you can't buy it.

They gave away boxes once, but they didn't go over well.

Ugh, I can pour orange juice on your cereal.

Let's see where we are here real quick.

See if I got the more time.

I got another minute or so.

From the way from with this can happen to me department,

why can't this happen to me?

A 58 year old construction worker in Maryland

was on his way to work.

He found out he wasn't really needed that day.

So I always decided to take the day off.

Went to a liquor store, bought a lottery ticket,

and won $100,000.

Now does anybody in their audience ever have that happen to them?

No, of course not.

Never happens to people I know.

What makes extra money?

Standing in line for rich people is actually a career now.

Someone did a big profile, a guy in New York

who runs a company that does it for everything

from theater tickets to the newest iPhone release.

Rich people don't want to stand in line.

So you stand in line for them and make their purchases for them.

Wow, I can do that.

I can stand in line.

That's a nice job for me when they're for pay as well.

Here's an excuse for not be eating lima beans.

They can be deadly.

Raw lima beans have lethal amounts of cyanide in them.

Who knew that?

But if you cook them thoroughly, it'll be just fine.

See, there's a reason I don't like lima beans.

It was that cyanide thing.

I didn't know about it, but I had a feeling.

A TikTok is going viral, where a supermarket chopper asked

whose job has it to place the divider on the conveyor belt

at checkout.

The comment section is filled with responses natural

and the only can agree is that the person who's already

in the checkout stuff done, do they put the divider there?

Or does the next person in line reach out and put the divider there?

I personally think if you're going through the checkout line

and your stuff is being checked out and you see the belt move

into some space, you reach works, you're closer to it,

you reach for the divider and you put it there.

Nine out of 10 times the person behind you will say thank you.

Yeah, I think that's obvious.

I think that person's got to put the divider there.

From how stupid can you be?

That a relationship arrested a drug dealer in Detroit

who installed a weed vending machine on the side of his house.

And you know when Facebook goes down, some people flip out

like it's the end of the world.

New study found those people might be a little too obsessed

with social media.

This happened I think last year, was it the last year

that they went down?

Something went down on Facebook.

Yeah, and people got all bent out of shape

and all upset, all nervous about it.

I don't know.

Wouldn't bother me if it went down.

It's 728 at WRJN.

For today, partly sunny.

After we have some scattered flurries and high new 27,

part of cloudy tonight,

lows around 15, increasing clouds highest near 27 tomorrow.

Cloudy at 21 degrees now.

728.

I'm Don Rosen at WRJN,

and some news headlines coming up next.

I'm Don Rosen at WRJN.

Thank you for joining me here this morning.

It's 735.

It says flurries.

I just put my beak out the door here

in front of the radio station.

I didn't see any flurries out there.

So it might be in parts of Racine right now.

Otherwise, this cloudy,

and we have a current temperature here at the radio station

at 22 degrees right now.

Hey, before you start swearing by AI,

artificial intelligence,

a supermarket chain is experimenting with AI

to create meal plans.

And the app they came up with

has some unusual dishes like chlorine gas,

poison bread sandwiches,

and mosquito repellent roast potatoes.

The supermarket wasn't amused.

A spokesperson said the recipes are not reviewed by a human being

if we don't guarantee that any recipe

will be a complete or balanced meal

or suitable for consumption.

Use your own judgment before making any recipes

produced by savvy mealbot.

When I start seeing stuff like chlorine gas,

points and bread sandwiches,

and mosquito repellent roast potatoes,

why would you want any AI

feature to do your dinner for you?

I mean, everybody's going in this

artificial intelligence stuff crazy,

but, you know,

I think it easy, folks.

Author J, oh, this is interesting.

What do you hear this story?

This is one of those odd but true stories.

Author J M Barry lost his 13 year old brother

in an accident as a kid.

To comfort his mother,

he started speaking and acting just like his brother

and actually wearing his brother's clothing.

His mother treated him as if he was his dead brother.

He later wrote a novel about a kid

stuck in an internal childhood.

That novel, Peter Pan.

You know, the name Wendy comes from Peter Pan.

Before Peter Pan, there was no name Wendy.

So everybody today named Wendy,

including the hamburger chain,

owes it to J M Barry,

who authored Peter Pan.

Now, I believe, if I remember correctly,

he willed all the royalties to this,

either philanthropic or church organization for children.

So when anybody does anything with Peter Pan

and they pay the royalties,

it goes right to that organization to do with children.

I'm pretty sure, I have to look that up,

but I'm pretty sure I heard that.

Even if you're a big traveler,

this guy's got to beat.

This guy is 84 years old.

His name is Nat Reed.

He recently completed his goal of writing

all 21,000 miles of Amtrak's rail network.

He's been all over America.

He didn't set out to do it,

but four years ago, he realized

he'd already covered most of it by traveling around.

So he set a goal to finish the rest.

He's also been to all seven continents,

but says some of the best memories

are traveling around the United States.

He finishes last leg of from Massachusetts to Maine.

And then took trains all the way back to Los Angeles

just because he said,

I took, excuse me,

I traveled Amtrak to from Milwaukee

or Racine to Chicago.

But I also traveled Amtrak once.

My cousin was getting married to Washington DC

and I was going to go there by myself.

I said, let me take a train ride.

So I took a train ride.

It took 24 hours to get from Racine,

or I think I was Racine or Milwaukee.

Anyway, from Racine to Washington DC.

And I was bored to tears on the train.

I didn't bring much stuff to do.

Yeah, I brought some stuff to read.

But you're sitting in that seat for 24 hours.

Now you can walk around the train.

They had an observation car.

And they do stops.

People would come on.

But I had a little kid sitting next to me.

He wasn't noisy,

but he slept a lot.

And when he slept, he rolled over.

And he was like leaning on me.

And they said, all right, let him sleep.

But it was the most boring ride.

Then I had to go back on the train for 24 hours.

But you know, I wouldn't do it again for 24 hours

unless I was traveling with somebody.

My problem was I was traveling alone.

So I would probably skip giving it alone.

But it's nice to know it's there.

Some people would ask their age might fib a little bit

or knock a year off or five.

You know, you could do that and get away with it.

But it's hard to do with something more obvious.

And a new poll, people are asked if they ever lied about their height.

79% of people have not.

Well, because what's the point unless you're not in person,

like you're on a dating app,

and you're overly self conscious.

But even on a dating app, eventually,

if you say you're six foot three and you're five foot seven,

it's going to be obvious when you go on that date.

11% of people, excuse me,

will exaggerate by at least an inch.

6% say they usually claim they're an inch taller than they are.

Another 13% two inches they add.

And another 2% try to pull off adding three inches.

I'm one of those people they don't want to add.

I'm six foot three.

I think I used to be six foot five at one time.

But I don't have six foot three.

I don't want to add any more height.

I mean, in my basement,

it's very hard to walk without banging my head on stuff.

Who wants to be any taller?

Plus when you buy stuff at a store,

taller stuff always cost more if they even have it.

So I never add height.

Try to subtract from it.

A study found that the average man

is mood plummets in the average man.

Now this is not women.

This is not women.

The average mood plummets around two o'clock every afternoon.

They say men are at their best between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

But it plummets around 12 o'clock in the afternoon.

Doesn't say why.

Doesn't say why women are at a due doesn't plummet.

Do you ever save any of your wedding cake?

A married couple in Pennsylvania has been eating a little bit

of their wedding cake on every anniversary for 50 years.

Doesn't that cake go bad?

Remember the Seinfeld episode where Elaine was eating that cake

from Prince Edward?

King Edward.

Remember he abdicated the throne and Mr. Peter

and bought a piece of the wedding cake for like $25,000

and Elaine ate it all.

It was buttercream.

Could you imagine what that was like?

They like coffee?

I mean, really like coffee.

According to a study out of the Mayo Clinic,

drinking more than four cups of coffee a day increases your risk

of dying by 50%.

Now I've never tasted coffee in my life.

I've got other things that are going to kill me other than coffee.

But if you drink, did people drink that much?

Four cups of coffee a day?

I beg that people do.

The more people use Facebook, the worse they felt.

As people used Facebook, they found themselves less happy

and less satisfied with life over time.

Researchers aren't sure why this happens.

They just say more studies need to figure it out.

I don't think it's that hard to figure out.

First of all, you see people on Facebook having a great vacation

and you're sitting home, but nothing to do.

You see people out of the restaurant and you're not.

You see people with family and friends and you're not.

That's why you don't feel good looking at Facebook.

Hiring managers asked a name the weirdest stunts people

have ever pulled the landed job.

And the answers include showing up in a white limo

for a mid-level job, offering to share an ice cream cone

with the person interviewing them,

and of course, mailing them cash.

Does cash really work?

Huh.

I never thought about mailing cash to somebody.

Maybe it would work.

The age when people are most likely to start hating their job

35 years old.

A new study found that one in six people over the age of 35 say

they are unhappy at work.

The only thing I could say is find a job you're happy at.

You know, you have to spend one third your life at work.

You might as well be happy doing your job.

I mean, one third your life.

I'm very fortunate.

And I explained this in the last hour when I got my

Remko Caravill radio when I was a little kid.

I found what I wanted to do in life.

I'm very fortunate.

And there have been radio stations I've been unhappy at.

Don't get me wrong.

There's only one station I ever quit in anger.

I won't tell you who it is.

But there's only one station I ever left in anger.

All the rest, and I've worked at a lot of radio stations.

It's just nature of the business.

You just, you know, think it's time to move on to another

radio station and move on and do things.

It's not that I was unhappy.

It's just it was time to move on.

Sometimes you do that.

And the one I quit in anger.

I really, in the last month or two, two months,

I just did not like working there.

So I left.

And you move on and you find something else.

All right.

I'm so glad I'm not dating in this world today.

Here's a term called stashing.

It's a dating term.

It's when someone keeps you, keeps you hidden

from their family and friends.

They stash you away.

They don't want to be seen or heard from.

What's the story with that?

Here's something I really didn't know.

The part of the watermelon we eat is called the placenta.

I may never eat watermelon again after finding that out.

Here's something your teenager really doesn't want to hear.

The legal definition of an infant isn't a baby.

The legal definition of an infant is someone under the age of 18.

So when you say you're 17 year old attacking like an infant.

Well, they're acting like an infant because they're infants.

Most porch pirates will lurk around, run up to your porch, steal a package,

and run off.

This guy had a totally different idea.

Guy in Georgia arrested for stealing a neighbor's entire porch

from the front yard.

The whole porch, the house had been removed from the lot.

But the property owner said the porch was not up for grabs.

But he's still lit anyway.

How do you move a porch?

47% of us have faked an excuse to get out of plants with someone,

especially during the holiday season, right?

When we do skip out on plants, we're most likely to do it over a text message.

76% of people who have faked an excuse said they just wanted to stay home

and binge watch something on TV.

27% of fakers said they avoided social media so they wouldn't get caught in a lie.

There was a comedian.

I think it was Jim Gaffigan, as a matter of fact.

He said, there are times when you have to fib in life.

One of them is when you don't want to go over a friend's house for dinner

or something, you have to fib because if he told him the truth,

they'd probably never speak to you again.

Like, you know, I don't want to go over your house.

I don't like your food.

I don't like your company.

I just don't want to go over.

I don't feel like it.

They'd probably never talked to you again.

The other time people fib is when they commit a murder.

Murderers never tell the truth.

They fib about it.

He said those are the two times that it's probably okay to fib.

He's a very funny guy, Jim Gaffigan.

There's a 71-year-old guy in Scotland who has dementia

and forgot his whole history with his wife.

Now listen to this story.

It's still going to be a theory to your eye.

He fell in love with her all over again and proposed without realizing

they were already married.

So they had a second wedding.

Even dance to the same song.

They danced to the first time.

You know, I think I'm going to cry a little bit there.

His wife did it.

All the family and friends came to their new wedding

and he had no idea.

He was already married to the woman of his dreams.

Wow.

Here's some reasons you don't like vestibles

and what you can do about it.

Hating vestibles can be genetic.

You can have a subconscious aversion to them

like you were forced to eat broccoli as a kid.

Or you can train yourself to eat more vegetables.

True story time.

My mother knew I didn't like vestibles

and so she never put them on my plate at the table.

Except this one time where she just wasn't thinking.

And she put a plate of peas on my plate.

And I ate my dinner and left them over.

My father said, well, you're going to finish your peas.

And I said, but I don't like them.

He said, oh, you're going to finish them.

And my mother said, well, I put them there by accident.

And my father said, no, he's going to finish them.

He's not leaving this table till he finishes them.

And I knew I couldn't finish them because if I did,

I would get sick.

And I believe that.

So I didn't.

I wouldn't eat them.

So my father, my mother, my brother

went down to the rec room in the basement

and they watched TV for two hours.

And I didn't eat my peas.

I was sitting there.

And I wasn't going to eat them.

It's not that I was being, you know, mean or just

wanted to be nasty about it.

I was really believing if I ate them, I would get sick.

I think I'll throw up or something so I didn't eat them.

So I sat there for two hours at the dinner table.

My father, my brother and mother came up after watching TV

and said, all right, go to bed.

My mother never put vegetables on my plate again.

Now, I do eat vegetables.

Not a lot of green vegetables.

I don't eat salads.

I carry it.

I say corn and stuff like that.

Broccoli and the cauliflower.

Not so much.

We're looking for partly sunny weather after we have some scattered

flores and cloudiness this morning with a hundred twenty-seven

today.

Part of cloudy lows 15 tonight.

Increasing cloudiness with a hundred twenty-seven

degrees tomorrow.

Right now it's cloudy.

And around parts of receiving some flores and twenty-two

degrees.

749.

At W.R.J. and I'm Don Rosen.

Keep it right in.

I met my whole lover in the grocery store.

The snow was falling, Christmas Eve.

I stole behind her in the frozen foods.

And I touched her on the sleeve.

She didn't recognize the vase at first.

But then her eyes blew open wide.

She went to hug me and she spilled her purse.

And we laughed until we cried.

I took her close to the jack out of steel.

Food was stolen up in bed.

We stood there, lost in our embarrassment.

And we laughed.

We laughed.

We laughed.

We laughed.

We laughed.

We laughed.

We laughed.

We laughed.

We laughed.

We laughed.

We laughed.

We laughed.

We laughed.

We laughed.

But then her eyes blew open wide.

We laughed.

The snow was falling in bed.

And in the cold.

We laughed.

We laughed.

We laughed.

Wsaid, learned minds of friends and friends that she was a

mother.

That something went up in the sealed bag.

Gradually cried.

Shout out to everyone.

Fuck you.

legenstead.

This is not the trick i always get how to ride in,

Mix

and right now we're at 22.

Flurry's around parts of Racine.

Cloudy, the rest of Racine.

Tomorrow, I don't want you to miss this program.

Jim Messier and Carol G. and Forthey are going to be here.

They presented a series of popular nostalgic programs over the past 10 years

about growing up in Racine and as baby boomers in the 1950s and 60s.

They hold them mainly at the Golden Rendell Theatre every few years.

And they've been at Roma Lodge, the library.

About 7,000 people.

7,000 have attended for free, including me.

My wife.

My son.

And my mother.

They'll tell us all about the topics of the programs coming up tomorrow.

And you're going to want to not miss this program because you're going to find a whole new

way of celebrating Racine after hearing Jim Messier and Carol G. and Forthey.

Tell us about their programs.

They do such a great job.

I mentioned this earlier in case you're misted.

Not only do they bring photographs blown up to show on the big screen at the Golden Rendell,

but they also bring in people associated with that era that either worked in that era

at something to do with that era or their family did because a lot of times the parents have passed on since.

But the kids are there and they'll talk about it.

And you know, this is something that we have to preserve.

You have to preserve history.

And I think Jim and Carol are doing such a great job of it.

754 at WRJN on your Monday morning, the holiday season.

I guess in full swing now, huh?

Yep.

We got rid of Thanksgiving.

We kicked that off to the side.

Now let's move on.

This is interesting.

Mick Jagger is back on tour again.

I think in April of next year, the Rolling Stones kick off their Hackney Diamonds tour sponsored by AARP, by the way.

And Mick Jagger is what?

80 years old now.

At one time, he put money into a pension account because he was in his 20s.

And he said it's ridiculous to think he could ever be a rock star when he was 60 years old.

Look at him now.

And he's 80 going on another tour of the United States and Canada at age 80.

And the rest of the guys in the band, except for two Charlie Watts and Brian Jones, people forget about him.

He was one of the original Rolling Stones.

He had drowned at a pool and Charlie Watts passed away last year.

I think Charlie Watts died, right?

Yeah.

And so they have, but they have some original members still going strong with the Rolling Stones.

God bless them.

Here are the biggest red flags in dating.

Are you dating?

Well, here's a red flag drinking too much.

Bad matters living in dirty space, credit card debt, and always using their phone during a date.

Now, the date stuff, you know, always using their phone, you can tell that out if they have bad manners.

But how do you do a credit card search on somebody before you date them?

And check out their living space where they're living at home.

See if it's dirty, filthy, whatever.

So that's tough.

Study found the 10 products that caused the most traumatic brain injuries as kids.

You wouldn't believe what number one is.

It's not a toy.

It's not a car.

It's the floor.

That's right.

I guess we got to get rid of floors now.

Yeah.

The floor kids tripping and falling and hitting themselves and hurting themselves on the floor at number one.

Have you ever heard the term screen apnea?

It's like sleep apnea where you stop breathing, except it happens when you're checking email or get too focused on screens.

And you don't, you don't stop breathing altogether, but you might have sometimes be holding your breath without realizing it or taking shallower breaths.

So Microsoft executive realized that she was doing this back in 2007 and coined the term email apnea.

Now, it doesn't just apply to email.

So screen apnea is the new term they're using.

I do get that.

If I see something in one of my accounts that looks screwy, I will go, you know, get that, you know, palpitation, all of a sudden.

I don't know why because it really doesn't matter.

Odd, but true.

The tradition of presidents wearing an American pin started not because of a US president wearing one, but because of an actor playing a candidate wearing one Robert Redford wore a presidential American flag on his lapel in the movie.

The candidate from 1972.

We wore one in the movie and Nixon's chief of staff sought and had a real president start wearing one in every president and every politician wears one sense.

Because Robert Redford wore one in the movie of the candidate.

According to a study of experts, they've named Colonel Sanders from Kentucky fried chicken, the best food mascot runner up Ronald McDonald.

There are some others out there.

The Burger King King, which was always freaky to me.

He always had a freaky look on his face like it was plastic or something.

He freaked me out.

I don't see who else was out there.

The Wendy's Wendy's and the Wendy person.

I don't think Taco Bell ever had a mascot, but yeah, Colonel Sanders.

I saw Colonel Sanders once.

I'll tell you told the story before I'll tell it real quickly one more time.

I was working in Atlanta.

And right across from our radio station was a hamburger spot, hamburger stand called Zestos.

And I'm in there one day eating it's about seven o'clock at night.

I took a break on my shift and in walks Colonel Sanders, the real Colonel San Harlan Sanders from Kentucky fried chicken.

And I ran across the street because we had radio and TV in our building.

We had a TV station and I ran across the street got the people from channel two over there and they interviewed him.

And they said, why you in a hamburger stand Zestos of all hamburger stands.

And they said you only eat so much chicken.

He was with a bunch of people.

They were on a promotional tour promoting something.

And I sit in there and it walks Colonel Sanders.

And about three years ago, I visited his grave in Louisville when I was there.

He has a nice, you know, nice gravesite, nice markers and a human is wife of Barry there, Colonel Harlan Sanders.

Then he started Kentucky fried chicken when he was 65 years old.

And it was the Bluebird Cafe.

And at 65, the chicken was so popular to the side of the market it across the country.

And at 865, he started KFC.

Never too late.

I'm Don Rosen.

Look at you tomorrow.

Once again, a great show here.

758.

Right now, some Floreys around the area.

22 degrees.

Have yourself a great day with WRJN.

Home town radio refreshed.
