Jim Santelle, host of Amicus: A Law Review guest hosts for the day.

What is the United States Agency for International Development, USAID? And how does USAID further America's goals and standing worldwide? Jim has personal experience with USAID, having served with the agency during 2006-2008 in Iraq. Today, Jim brings history and service together to share the mission and practice of USAID to us all. In 1961, Congress passed the Foreign Assistance Act, providing legislative scaffolding for President John F. Kennedy to use his executive power to establish USAID. Now, President Trump seeks to shutter the agency entirely. Despite Secretary of State Rubio's assertion that all lifesaving work will continue through the application of waivers, that's a moot point with no one to process them. So what does this critical agency do and how does it contribute to America's power and influence worldwide?
