And a disgraced Wisconsin former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice, Michael Gabelman, apparently not doesn't want to sit for a deposition.

Isn't that like what you're supposed to do?

And then Charles Franklin put out a new poll today from the Market University Law School polling.

Of course, we're going to have to get to the crap show that was the address to Congress last night from the orange Mussolini.

Let me throw this one out there because I got a chuckle of it whenever you see drunken Derek van Orden in the news.

So here's what Mary writes at the General Sentinel
that U S when Republican rep Derek Van Orden, huh, what a disgrace threatened a former veterans affairs employee over the weekend saying he would be referring him to the department of government efficiency after he questioned the mass firings of federal workers.
I mean, how dare you?
The man, a disabled veteran named Jesus Tony Rez had already lost his job at the LA VA in early February.
I'm not laughing at Jesus's loss of job.
I'm laughing at the
Dumbass, that is Derek Van Orden.
Way to go, Western Wisconsin.
Now, Ruez is one of the thousands of probationary employees at federal agencies, including the Department of Veterans Affairs, who had been fired in recent weeks as Trump and his billionaire buddy, slashed the size of the federal workforce and are losing some court cases left and right, but we'll get to that later.
Now, Ruez said he sent Van Orden a LinkedIn message on Monday, February 10th.
a week after he was laid off, urging him to stop the firings.
A LinkedIn message.
Those are like private messages, right?
Those go like directly to the person.
Now Van Orden replied, Saturday morning, well, cause you know, Friday, uh, I was on Monday.
Okay.
So the message went out Monday.
Van Orden replied on Saturday.
Seemingly, quote unquote, unaware that he was no longer working at the VA.
Here's what, here's what drunken Derek said.
I will be referring you to Doge as it seems that at 1346 on a Monday, use of military time, cause you know he's a military guy.
At 1346 on Monday, you should have been working for veterans, not posting trash about your boss, President Trump.
Van Orden wrote in his LinkedIn message, which was shared with the journal Sentinel.
There needs to be accountability now.

He's a veteran, reaching out to another veteran.
And this is the response the drunken Derek, Derek gives after he put down the bottle.
You know, that's my, my assumption.
I mean, otherwise you could certainly respond within a week, but, you know, those benders can last a long time.
So, um, Western Wisconsin, you gotta do better.
And what, what a shame.
This is, and it just goes to the, my point.
I'm, I'm ashamed, man.
This, what Trump was doing yesterday, the way this whole thing is going down the way that the, the, the billionaires are just straight up taking over.
It is shameful.
It is shameful.

The saddest thing about this Van Orden story is that Jesus Tony Ruiz was just one week before his one year probationary period was up.
He was about to, you know, keep this job at the VA with a decent salary.
He'd been a great worker.
He'd gotten an award earlier in the year and a thousand dollar prize.
He got a bonus,

As the reporting goes at the journal, Sentinel fired on February 3rd, as mentioned, within a week of his year long probationary period ending.
He said he often handled up to 60 claims a day, 60.
So someone else who got to pick up the slack, you know, those other great workers that, you know, that.
Trump and Derek Van Orden respect and admire so much fellow veterans.
You know, don't give me that Van Orden.
Come on.
Let's see.
Here's, here's, he said he was, when he was fired, he was told it was for performance.
Again, after receiving a performance bonus and a great evaluation, here was the quote that he remembered, your failure to the, your failure to the veterans administration, you're not a good fit for the U S government to the veterans.
We're letting you go today.
No, he's paraphrasing, but that's, that's what they told him.

Um, yeah.
So there's that.
There's Derek Van Orton,
but look at that callousness that these people, federal, good federal employees are getting just these impersonal, uh, you're not a good fit for the US government.

I mean, it's just, it's a hideous way to treat people.
I mean, no decent boss would do that.
Elon Musk isn't a decent boss.
Donald Trump isn't a decent boss.
Although apparently Trump said during his speech yesterday that he did head Doge.
So, you know, there's going to be, that's going to end up in court.
Earlier this week, according to the Milwaukee General Sutton, the rest traveled to Washington, DC, spent much of the time a day, Tuesday meeting with lawmakers, including Pelosi and Schiff.
On Tuesday night, he joined other federal workers fired from the VA to attend Trump's speech.
Said he was trying to meet with Van Orden before leaving DC.

And it is disgraceful, as you said, at the top that he is representing Western Wisconsin.
You know, he's barely one.
He's a disgrace to the region and the state.
And we got to get better people in there.

Man, I mean, this just keeps getting better.
Elon Musk and his pals found a new way to try to influence the state Supreme Court.
Only this time they're operating through a bogus front group.
In recent days, the group calling itself progress 2028.
Ooh, that sounds great.
We love progress has begun running ads on the upcoming Supreme Court race on Facebook and other media platforms.
Quote, judge Susan Crawford, where we would reform cash bail and supports second chances, not incarceration.
Say thank you.
That's one text message.
One digital ad encourages viewers quote, drop a comment below encouraging her to stand along for, stand strong for compassionate criminal justice reform exclamation point.
Now progress 2028 almost sounds like it might be a liberal answer to project 2025, which of course Donald Trump knew nothing about, man.
The detailed conservative blueprint from the heritage foundation for Trump's second term.
In fact, the group bills itself as a quote progressive voice for Wisconsin.
What?
It's not, says Daniel Bicep in the journal Sentinel.
Rather, Progress 2028 is a front group that is underwriting fake digital ads and text messages that are supposedly promoting liberal Supreme Court candidate Susan Crawford by tying her to unpopular or controversial political positions or groups such as Planned Parenthood.
The goal is to chip away support from Crawford in a race against Brad Schimel in the April 1st.
election.
I'll buy this goes into some more details on it, but I'd like to get down to the bottom the spokesperson.
Oh, here we go.
The numbers overall progress 2028 has spent nearly $35,000 running.
The fake pearl Crawford ads on Facebook and Instagram since February 24, garnering more than 1.5 million impressions.

Incidentally, building America's future is the same group that accidentally ran a picture of the wrong Susan Crawford.
Not only are they deceitful, Matt, they also not very good at their job.
The spokesman Derek Honeyman said this, it's not surprising that he's running fake and deceptive ads and lying to voters, Musk charged into this race, not knowing anything about it and even used a picture of completely different Susan Crawford in one ad.
Wisconsinites shouldn't trust a single thing from corrupt billionaires like Elon Musk and his lackey, Brad Schimmel.
Well, that I absolutely agree with Matt.
And the question is, you know, how much is Musk going to spend here?
I mean, he's already spent upwards of two and a half million dollars on this race.
He could spend 25 million.
He could spend 250 million, which is still couch change for him.
And that's
essentially the problem we have with our campaign finance system right here.
But yeah, Elon Musk is trying to interfere with our state Supreme Court race and decide who's going to be the justice, the new justice elected on April 1st, which is a crucial election.
And so if you're listening, make sure you vote on April 1st and get your family members and friends out to vote April 1st.
It's a really vital election will determine the ideological balance of the Wisconsin Supreme Court and
All in the balance then is abortion rights, labor rights, environmental protections, consumer products, all sorts of things here that we've got to defend.
And the Wisconsin Supreme Court is one of the few places that can help us out right now.
Now, we talked last week, a couple of weeks ago.
who ran against the former Senator, what's his name?
The Hovey was very upset that, that some Dems were supporting this America first candidate, like our ultra right candidate.
And Hovey said, all these, you know, him running and being supported by those folks is deceptive.
And he pulled, you know, votes away that Derek van Orden thinks that would have gone to him.
And if they had a hundred percent gone to him, I don't think it would have went anyway, but it would have, he would have been a whole lot closer.
This kind of seems like a little bit of the same kind of thing, Matt.
What are your thoughts?
Well, and this thing, I mean, he's pretending to be a progressive voice.
I mean, I was with Wisconsin democracy campaign and Wisconsin voting rights coalition where we had progressive voices for Wisconsin.
And for this guy to try to, you know, appear as one of us and imitate us and then pretend everybody who's not.
paying that much attention to this article that they're actually a progressive voice.
I mean, that's just a fraud.
And so, but yeah, I'm the legality of it to your question.
I mean, pretty much.
You can say whatever you want in a political campaign.
Candidates certainly can.
Candidates can't be, it's okay for a candidate to lie, the U.S.
Supreme Court has said previously.
Now, the outside groups, maybe they have some liability, but this one is a disgusting ad by Musk.
I'm not sure it's gonna work anyway.
I think it's a stupid ad because he will, you know, he's trying to get people out there who don't like criminal justice reform.
He may be getting out there, people who do like criminal justice reform.
only gets money well spent.
Well, if you were a billionaire, you'd be a lot smarter man.
I mean, that's just how it goes these days.

That guy shouldn't be playing around with our VA people.
Let them clean up their own system.
You know, the reason for veterans' organizations is to keep that bureaucracy in Washington away from the veteran.
He served his time.
He did his thing.
He doesn't have to call town to nobody.
Being able to talk to a veteran amongst veterans is words.
I mean, you know, I don't want to see that guy telling
Veterans Service Officers and anybody else in Veterans Administration to do anything because it doesn't seem he doesn't even have a handle on what he's doing, sending out his little, many people to go into files.
That's okay.
I'm not knocking it.
He came up with a lot of money.
That's cool.
Leave the government something like the Veterans Administration, which it's got its own navigation problems.
We don't need him mucking around with that.
I don't know what else to say about it, but man.
I don't like when people are trying to tell veterans what to do.

Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gabelman.
We're talking about this Elon Musk and the money going into Wisconsin Supreme Court's race.
And this of course has been going on for a few years now.
And my understanding based on your op-ed from yesterday in the recombobulation area, Matt Rothschild, there is a reason why this is allowed.
And I don't like it, Matt.
What's going on here?
How can these folks, these billionaires come in and seemingly just
by our elections or spend gobs and gobs of money drowning out everybody else happening on the right and on the left.
How do we get into this circumstance, Matt?
Well, I mean, you shouldn't like it at all.
I don't like it.
And most Wisconsinites don't like it.
The problem is, well, one of the
odd things that, you know, a lot of people outside of Wisconsin, you know, if they have a memory of Wisconsin politics might think, well, what's going on there?
I thought you guys had clean politics in Wisconsin, because we used to have clean politics here.
You know, prior to the rewrite of our campaign finance law by Scott Walker and the Republican gerrymandered legislature in 2015, the most that the richest person in the world or the richest person in Wisconsin could give to any candidate was 10,000
So if that law was still on the books, Elon Musk could only give $10,000 to Schimel or to the Republican Party of Wisconsin.
He couldn't give a dime to anybody else or any political party or any outside group like that fake outside group he's funneling money to right now.
$10,000 was it and you were
was an aggregate limit,
So you could
more than 10.
Right, 5,000 to Schimel, 5,000 to the Republican Party, and he's done.
or whatever combination.
Sure, sure.
But because of some US Supreme Court decisions, including the McCutcheon decision in 2014 that said, you can't have aggregate limits on federal donations, they violate the rich person's First Amendment rights, because some rich Republican was spending 560,000 or some ungodly amount on candidates and wanted to spend 561,000 or something.
Anyway, they said, poor, poor little rich kid, we don't have any limits on you.
So that was a problem.
The bigger problem was though that the Wisconsin legislature in late one night in November 2015 and I was in the gallery at the state capitol when they were rewriting our campaign finance law.
They totally threw out the limits on donations to political parties because there was a $10,000 limit on donations to political parties.
Now the sky's the limit on donations to political parties, to outside groups, and to candidate committees, there's a $20,000 limit.
But why should Elon Musk give Brad Schimmel $20,000 when he can give outside groups $200,000, $2 million, $20 million, or $200 million?
And then the groups can shuffle the money among themselves.
He could give 20 million to the Republican Party of Wisconsin that could then give 20 million to Brad Jimmel.
I mean, it's all a shell game now.
And there's no limit as to what the richest person or the richest people in the country can do.
And this is a bipartisan problem.
Let me make it clear.
Democrats, Ben Wickler's getting money from, you know, liberal billionaires.
But I don't think our democracy should be a tug of war, but you're in a handful of billionaires on the left
and a handful of
billionaires on the right.
We all should have an equal tug on that rope.
We just don't and everybody knows it.
Everyone knows that these rich super billionaires have an inordinate amount of influence here on our campaigns.
And this campaign finance law needs to be rewritten if Democrats ever get control of the state legislature, which they may in 2026.
Top priority should be.
rewriting our campaign finance law and re-instituting some sensible limits.
They even took out the nice rhetoric about why we need campaign finance reform in our decent law in Wisconsin.
That was one of the most appalling things.
They said they took out the language that said we need to have some integrity in our elections and undue amounts of spending really calling to question the integrity
of our
elections.
And the Democrats at the time were screaming, at least keep that language.
They didn't want to keep that language or language about transparency.
or anything good about democracy and money.
They went it all out the window and so went out the window.
Just PS is on the board 8 5 5 7 5 2 4 8 4 2 8 5 5 7 5 civic Matt to me this seems like this this kind of just undue influence drowning out Everybody else because I can't spend 20 million dollars on anything.
I mean I got checks, but unless I post datum, you know, you're probably not gonna be able to cash him
I see this akin to, you know, yelling fire in a crowded theater.
That's where we're at right now.
And you got freedom of speech, but you can't yell fire in a crowded theater.
You know what I'm saying?
And if money is speech, you still can't yell fire in a crowded theater.
And we're at the point now where they're yelling fire in a crowded theater.
That is the ultimate result of these rulings and these laws.
And is it okay for one person's speech to drown out other people's speech?
Because that's what's going on right now.
And so they're interfering with our First Amendment rights to speak and to listen.
And that was part of the dissent in the 2010 Citizens United decision by the U.S.
Supreme Court.
The dissent there by Justice John Paul Stevens said other people's First Amendment rights are being trounced down by the big money voices.
And I think we got to remember there.
There are a lot of ways to look at the First Amendment, not just, you know, the crude way that the U.S.
Supreme Court has looked at it and given, you know, the super rich all this power over the years through Citizens United and a whole bunch of decisions that date back to the late 19th century.
I mean, those things have to be overturned.
There's a group in Wisconsin that's working to overturn them called Wisconsin United to amend.
Actually, the Depeer Common Council became just a couple of weeks ago, the 179th community in Wisconsin to say that its people want to see
Citizens United overturned and give people back their voices in our elections and have sensible campaign finance reform again.
So there is this mass movement here in Wisconsin and nationally to try to solve this problem.
And then they're good legislators like Senator...
Chris Larson here, who's introduced a bill in session after session to give us meaningful campaign finance reform here in Wisconsin.
It hasn't passed because Republicans still have the power in the state Senate and the state assembly.
But if that changes, we could try to get at this problem.
Fundamentally, you got to amend the U.S.
Constitution or get a better U.S.
Supreme Court, which isn't going to happen anytime soon, to overturn some of their precedents that have been so bad.
This money equals speech, corporations equals people.
I mean, those are two fallacies that are just ruining our ability to have equality in our elections.

Not talking about the actual electeds, Matt, is it your impression that the concern over money and politics is truly bipartisan?
everyday republicans, everyday democrats, everyday independence, even those that don't engage in the political process, that this is something that people want to see action on.
It definitely is.
I mean, when I was executive director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, I travel all over Wisconsin and talk about two issues.
One was gerrymandering, and we got a little victory on that, which was nice.
The other was money and politics.
And in community after community, you know, of these 179 communities, it's not just Madison and Milwaukee.
You know, we've got communities up and down the state who are pretty in pretty red areas, but people understand that they don't have an equal voice and that big money, whether it's from
you know, Pritzker and Soros on the Democratic side, or whether it's from Elon and Diane Hendricks and Elon Musk on the Republican side, you know, no one wants to see all the mud on our screens constantly.
We're just sick and tired of it.
It's disgusting.
Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Molly Beck reporting that Michael Gableman is refusing to testify before a lawyer disciplinary board over issues tied to his election review.
Just a few paragraphs.
Then your consideration, Matt, he cost Gableman cost.
taxpayers millions of dollars.
Let's not forget that millions of dollars while conducting a fruitless review of the 2020 presidential election is refusing to testify before a state disciplinary board.
In a case of legend, he violated rules governing attorney's behavior.
Yes, he did.
Uh, the state office of loyal regulation, the OLR filed a motion on Friday to compel, you got to compel a former Supreme court justice.
to sit for a deposition two weeks after Gabelman canceled with short notice on a previously agreed-upon meeting in February.
Instead of seeking an order to limit or stop the deposition, Gabelman, quote, simply had his attorney send an email saying he would not attend the deposition because of Fifth Amendment concerns violating state discovery laws according to the motion.
Ah, sorry, okay, I'm not gonna do that Fifth Amendment.
Sorry, can't make it.
Sorry, can't make it.
He instead sought to privately meet with the board attorney to quote unquote resolve the matter.
Uh, Donald shot and attorney for the board argued in the motion that Gabelman could invoke his fifth amendment privileges when facing criminal charges based on the allegations against them, but
cannot use the fifth amendment to avoid sitting or deposition before the state board.
There's more to this.
Molly Beck of the journal Sentinel, but you get the gist.
This guy keeps getting, I don't think it was possible, but he keeps getting worse, man.
Well, this is the one time I agree with Robin Voss.
I want to see Gableman disbarred.
And if you look what he was charged with, according to the Office of Lawyer Regulation, he violated the open records law.
These are the allegations.
He made false statements about a judge.
He made false statements about the mayors of Green Bay and Madison in their response to some outrageous subpoenas he was sending to them.
He submitted and checked his one.
submitted a false avid David to the office of lawyer regulation
that's
investigating him.
And this guy's been a huge embarrassment, not only to the state, but to Robin Vos too.
And the fact that he was paid by our tax dollars is really galling.
And yes, it's it's accountability time for Michael Gabelman.
Matt, I mean, what would Doge think about that?

What are your thoughts?
Hey guys, you know, Friday when the Zelensky ambush happened in the open office.
I was, I just happened to be driving about 170 mile trip and I picked up my phone and I just called every Republican in it and I was pissed.
And I call, I left messages here and there and Saturday morning I get a phone call from somebody from the Winnebago County Republican Party.
And he said, Oh, did you leave a message on a voicemail on our machine?
I said, yeah.
He said, well, I just wanted to call you and commiserate.
Commiserate, all right.
And we spent 20, 30 minutes talking about how just off the wall, crazy, MAGA has become, Trumpism has become, it's an older guy.
And I'm thinking, you know, we have a lot more people out there that we're not just not hearing from.
And a lot of regretted vote, but it was the first time it just came out of nowhere.
So maybe those phone calls, you know, are pretty valuable.
We'll see.
But I would recommend everybody call every day, especially given what's going on today.
It's insane.

Again, I was, I was on a beat.
So I only saw a little bit of it.
I look pretty embarrassing to me.
Oh, it was terribly embarrassing.

He wanted Zalinsky to bow and scrape and kiss the ring, and he didn't do it enough for Trump.
And of course, J.D.
Vance sandbagged him there, too, in a ridiculous performance in and of itself.
So it was a disgraceful moment for US foreign policy and for the US government and for America.

So, I mean, I question Matt.
If if and we'll get to Donald Trump and perhaps this is a good segue into it.

What would Trump do differently if he were trying to actively support the Kremlin than what he is doing right now?
Right.
No, he's doing everything Putin wants.
And, you know, Mark is right about Lindsey Graham.
You know, Lindsey Graham used to be John McCain's buddy and right hand man.
And and then he just, you know, he flipped for Trump.
Uh, and then after the second, after January 6th, he said, I'm getting off the Trump train and they got right back on the Trump train.
You know, uh, I just don't understand how someone like him, uh, sleeps at night.
I really don't.
If your morals are, or don't have any, just don't worry about it.
I mean, you got, because of it, if nothing.
You can go, if you can change your mind so quickly, so easily, and all the things that the Republicans over the course of my young life, Matt, that they said they stood for, family values, right?
Patriotism and, you know, fiscal responsibility, all those kinds of things that we've heard Republicans talk about, strong foreign policy, right?
Supporting and spreading, helping spread democracy around the world.
Where what happened to that?
What was it?
Was that all just BS back then?
Because that's what people were talking about and saying and now that you know There's there's a new guy in town and there's a new conversation to be had and and now it's all about you know make America great again And I don't feel like it's it's really great in fact I think the way that this administration is jumping from one foot to the other you know putting on terrorists and I'll put pulling back terrorists and I mean that's not I mean
The only way it makes sense to me, Matt, is if they're playing the market on it, man.
I mean, because the president has the ability to drive the market.
And if you sell short, you know, then you can, knowing that he's going to pull it back and go back up, people can make money on what he's doing.
And I don't put it past these people, this administration, the billionaire class, who play those kinds of macro huge games.
And knowing that we couldn't play, you know, it's like insider trading to some degree.
And I have no zero proof of that other than the fact that
Otherwise, it's just, it's just bunk a policy coming out of the White House.
Yeah.
And it changes day to day.
And, you know, our enemy yesterday is our friend today.
And, you know, I'm going to put tariffs on today, know I'm going to take them off this afternoon.
I mean, maybe they're day traders.
I mean, I don't know what I, I mean, if I had, if I had the ability to do that.
to get in front of the bully pulpit and say, I'm putting tariffs on and I'm going to drive this market to the ground.
And boom, it drops 2%.
And then you have to load up on the shorts or whatever.
And then, and then, and then, and then you say, all right, and then you buy in because now you know it's going to come back up.
I mean, that kind of, that kind of mentality is certainly held by some of those billionaire folks because they think they're above it all, man.
I mean, we're not.
