We are one week out from Trump's second inauguration and chaos already abounds. Fires continue blazing in California, with death tolls continuing to rise and tens of thousands of acres consumed by fire. As national elected figures struggle to put together an aid package, many Republicans seek to impose conditions. From policy changes in California to appeasing Trump with a debt ceiling increase, these strings are literally withholding lifesaving aid at a moment of extreme crisis. And it's a dark portent of what's to come in the next Trump administration.

Turning to Wisconsin matters, the new Legislative session announces the policies they'll pursue. Republican Senate leader Devin LeMahieu affirms that Republicans are anti-abortion and anti-marijuana, no changes there. They'll seek to restrict Wisconsinites access to abortion to 14 weeks and maintain our presence in the shrinking minority of non-legal weed states. Not surprising, but deeply disappointing and deeply misaligned with the will of Wisconsin citizens.
