How Baseball, Theology, and History Intersect in Today's Conversations

Community Voice · Wed Oct 14, 2026

Good morning. Welcome to Community Voice. I'm your host Keith Pearce. I want to thank everybody for joining us this morning. Good morning, Clark Kent. Hey, man, it's you, man. Let me couple of things real quick observations. I don't know if that was a good game last night between the Guardian and the Rays. But do you know the Rays didn't sell out? Playoffs? They did not sell out.

They were saying because the Dodgers lost the first two games here, that the ticket prices have dropped in LA. That's good because they was high as a fool. Yeah, they dropped in LA. So I don't know if they throwing in the towel. I don't think they should. We got Gasser going tonight against Shale. Well, yeah. Well, the reason why I believe in that they did it is because they want to get all the fans in the building because they needed to be as loud as it could be. But I wonder if they were up 2-0.

Would it still of course because you would have a chance to close it out Yeah, you'll have a chance to close it out. So they said they dropped like 92 bucks You know, so if so people in Milwaukee want to fly out there lay for the game you can get a ticket It's gonna be outrageous. It's gonna be outrageous when they coming back Yeah, they're guaranteed coming back. So

Yeah, man. So when I saw your brewers cap, I was watching the game and you know, you just and then here's the one thing somebody I'm gonna tell you It's seven games y'all and this had nothing to do with brewers fans when somebody put on Facebook the Guardians versus the brewers is seven games Well, it's seven games. You got to win foe. I'll be honest with you. I'm kind of scared of Cleveland I'm kind of scared of Cleveland man Cleveland

Cleveland has a all-around package. Well, did you see Fast Freddy last night? No. Perolta. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Fast Freddy? He did all right, though. He did all right. But I see why the Mets let him go, and then the Mets let him go. Yeah, but he did all right last night. So that series is tied 1-1. And you know, I got to start watching now, man, because, you know, and the cool thing is,

Packers play Sunday night. I understand Michael Parsons is not gonna play. Oh, he is that's he's not Okay, good came out. He's not gonna play you know 110% I know he wanted to come back for the Dallas game No, that's Sunday wait to play dollars Sunday night in dollars over here in green at Lambo It's Lambo, right? Yeah, you gotta play the lamp. Yeah, they had a bus going up there. Yeah

A lot of people got a bus going up there. All right, let me do a quick cleanup. Yesterday, I had Trump in Nevada. He was not in Nevada. He was in Arizona. So let me apologize for that. Yeah, Arizona. Oh, by the way, what time is it in Arizona? Still ain't heard from him. Still ain't heard from him. Somehow, when his team win,

and we lose. He's the first one on the line. Yeah. But when his team lose and we win, we gotta put a message in the bottle just to even contact us. Play that sound. Right. But then call Michelle. Play that sound. So which one? The crickets. Oh.

He called Michelle. Right. And it'd be five o'clock his time. Happy Vaseline Day. Happy Vaseline Day. Yeah, we know you listen. No, he listen. No, he listen. Good morning, Zimmer. Good morning. Eval Kenya. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning.

doing brainstorm and have they ever discussed ways to raise money for the city besides raising taxes. That's the only way you're going to get money for the city. So what do they do? Or cut services? So as far as this wheel tax, where do that money go to?

It can't go to the streets because the streets ragged me as a fool. You know what? Somebody pocket it. Let me say this. That's the cost of living in the big city. If you go to any big city in this country, the major complaint people have is how ragged the streets are. But the streets are raggedy because of the volume of traffic. Well, what about the volume of money that's coming from the wheel tax? You can't keep up with it. Who can keep up with it?

The more you tear it up, the more it should be fixed. All right. Good morning, community voice. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Boy, I tell you, man, that's what we do. Just a bunch of old guys sitting around. That was new. No, but I'm gonna be honest with you, man. I was driving the other day and I didn't see the potholes. I'm listening to my music and I hit the potholes so hard. Change the station.

It went from WNOV to V100. That's a pato. Pato was like, I don't want to hear this. Chase the station.

That's a hell of a problem. You need to report it so they can fix it. That's a crater. Oh man, we changed the radio station. Next thing I know, I'm listening to Karen Hunter. That's like you're going from listen to R&B to do love. Put you on the gospel station. Look at God. Don't you supposed to be listening to the gospel station anyway?

Yeah, I love but you know what man, and I know there's some people who will Well, I'll save this because it was a question that I wanted to ask y'all Time from Wisconsin start charging the toll come in north now that makes sense Because I mean the noise charge at all and their money is going to the noise infrastructure Why can't we do the same because we take federal money? I mean, okay, but I don't they take federal money too

Not not at the same level. All our interstate is maintained by the federal government. Okay, but Kate, we changed the level of that means that you'd have to be responsible. So let's say you have let's say you have COVID before they put money out. Okay. And people are not traveling. Okay. That means that your revenues drop because they're not crossing. And then how many people are really you probably got more traffic going south than you have coming north. See, but you got a surplus already built up.

So if something happened, they know you could just go into that. No, I think they do things like the people from Illinois who have summer homes here. I think there's a tax local folks put on them. OK, but I mean, you know, it's it's it's it's it's, man. First off, you done had church folks on for two days in a row. What's wrong with having church folks on? Ain't nothing wrong with that. Did I have church folks yesterday? I did not. No, they were Monday.

Yeah. Yeah. It was it was it was money than when you had yesterday was for the culture. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, certain, you know, people get their days mixed up too, you know, with the weather and, you know, bat oatmeal in the morning. There's some bad. They say, what's that? There's some bad ass. Some bad ass.

There's a lot of bad information. Well, I think that's good, I think. Now, for me, I, and let me just kind of, I thought it was an enlightening conversation on Monday with Dr. Stanley and Dr. Garmin. There's enough ignorance that happens out here.

And it really is right now this question or this intersection with the phones up. The intersection of faith and faith communities and the beloved community. And so I think there are conversations that we should have. If I can do a public frustration.

William Augustus Jones, and what we would call in the business of mystic, talked about the difference between, and I'm talking now to the clergy, between our priestly responsibilities and our prophetic calling. Our priestly responsibilities and our prophetic calling. And then just as as the predecessor,

to Pastor Washington talked about the Mercy Ministry, right? We do Mercy Ministry, we do food pantries, and that's what Jesus instructs us to do in Matthew 25. But there still is, I think, a prophetic responsibility that we have as those who are called.

It is our responsibility to speak truth to power. It is our responsibility to speak out against injustice wherever the injustice is. Now, it would be great. I'd love to bring in Dr. Demetrius Williamson and again have Dr. Garmin on again to talk about the historic Jesus. There's a great book out there called Zealot.

And it really talks about one aspect of historic Jesus. Now, I do remember this very prominent black pastor. And he was in the city and he wanted to go to a bookstore. And so I said, OK, he said, I said, you know what, I'm reading this great book. Wow, Craig, you're my boy. You're my boy.

But who was I talking about? Is it a mess me all up? There's a real preacher in the studio. No, I mean, I think that that is, and my frustration is that there is a group of black preachers who are more concerned about preaching and the art of preaching.

as opposed to the preaching leading to societal changes. And we're talking about going against systems, right? And so that's my thing. And look, black folks love preaching. Black folks love preaching. And let me also do a cleanup here. The young lady I was thinking about, the first woman to preach.

That was recognized was a woman named Jareena Lee Jareena Lee was the American it's apsman Jones and Richard Allen her husband was a preacher something happy got up he froze she jumped right in and so even then you got to understand that the patriarchal Sense even with black men when it comes to black women they could not recognize or would not recognize her fully

Fully in terms of closing that's a whole total different discussion. We talk about the role of women and in ministry women make up 75% of the church men make up 90% of the leadership In my mind there's something wrong with that picture. Yeah, and I understand that pushes up against and look there's a lot of women who don't see women

Women as pastors of women and leadership roles and a lot of that is because of the program and a lot of remember I said this and because I do adult education adults have to I learned to learn You have to give up something that you feel very and notice I used the word feel you feel very or I believe Believe feelings. Okay, they're vapor They come and go see I could like Jermaine today. That's a feeling and not like Jermaine tomorrow

So I think being able to have that conversation and certainly that conversation even within our beloved community is a difficult conversation. There were women who did a lot of the organizing for the March on Washington, but yet only two women had speaking parts and one sang. So I think when we look at that and have these discussions, it's great.

Because I asked this question, do you preach the Bible or do you preach from the Bible? And I heard Dr. Washington say that you're supposed to have a newspaper and a Bible. And some people, I remember that was a criticism of one of my former pastor, he preached in the newspaper. Well, because you live in this world. Yeah. And they have a responsibility. That's great.

you know, but when you leave this building, you got some real life issues that have to be addressed. And on top of that, for the people that's coming to hear the word, yes, you want to get the spiritual aspect of things, but you also want to get some reality in that word. Some people do, Jermaine, and then I think some people don't. And then when we say the word. Yeah.

That that that is so here's a big it's Wednesday. I can use a big one thing It's nebulous. I don't know what you mean by the word You know it The word I think translated in Greek is logos logos Yeah, right, but I don't know and then when we say the word We need to understand during the time of Jesus The only scripture that they had was ancient Jewish

Scripture the penitok, right? You know the laws all those things and so for black people because and this is and I don't know I have to go back and look and see if this is Ralph we all were not to look when he talks about the divided mind of the black church, but We put such an emphasis on the Bible As opposed to using the Bible

as a tool to fully realize our humanity. You know, he preached the word. Well, I don't know, sometimes you call it the word, sometimes that's me. Well, Keith, I don't, well, the pushback to that, because that is true. There's a pushback. Yeah, you know, you got two sides to this thing. Now, you can, you can preach, you know, preach strictly the word.

Mm-hmm and or you can preach the reality of what you live and Include the word shouldn't the word speak to that reality and that's why I say it's too size to this spectrum because that is true The word of God should line up with the reality of your life So you can take the word or the Bible and apply it to your life. That's what you're supposed to do exactly so then

therefore taking the word and applying it to your life, you can take real life experiences and compare it to, you know, to what you just taught or just learned. And I heard this, um, and I say it all the time, you know, Jesus dies every Sunday in the Baptist church. We put so much on that salvific piece about salvation that we don't realize that we're saved for a reason beyond saving.

of cells from ourselves We're saved and called to exercise the ministry that Jesus preached and talked about and what I find amazing and This is you know at my age 50 plus years of being a minister what I find amazing is that the amount of time we actually talk about what Jesus taught and Get into our dogma and other

And I wouldn't call it theology, but just dogma, right? And so it seems to me, and you all can let me know, it should start with Jesus. What did Jesus say? Yeah. And then if there is something that then we move, but that's why I always start. What did Jesus say? What was Jesus about?

And then how do we then incorporate that because as disciples and my pastor's been talking a lot about this in terms of discipleship Then is the teachings of Christ we and look understand it was an understanding of religion as religion was given to us you heard Dr. Garmin talk a lot about our slave religion And that slave religion was given to us so we would remain slaves. It was not liberation theology

Right. It wasn't black theology. It was slave obey your master Okay, and that's why I say the symbolism I know when Pastor linear was on and he talked about why this whole symbolism has impact and has impact on the psyche of people because when we see Jesus as white

And those of us who subscribe to the Trinity will see a white Jesus. Jesus is God, then that means God is white. And so for a lot of people, oh, we don't see it that way. Oh, but your behavior might say something very different than your reaction to me saying that, you know, if God is a spirit, then obviously God does not have a complexion.

Not a human complexion. Now that's hard for people because what we do is we fit God into what we want God to be. That's how, that's how we, it is, it is how, that's that myology.

You know when I'm looking at God and this is the image of God in my mind And then if I can put it in this little box, then I can understand God Let me let me help you with some frustration here. So you don't have to be frustrated. You will never understand God The divine is too vast for human understanding So we can nibble around the edges we do theology to kind of give us a better idea or our thoughts on it, but when you think about

the universe and the vastness of universe and the vastness of creation, you will never, because no one can explain what precipitated stars in the sky. Now, we can scientifically tell you a lot of people push back on that. Oh, no. So if you don't accept the science, now you're going on your belief. So let me ask you, so.

with the stars in the sky and all of those stuff. The science says whatever that had happened with the big boom, right? Yeah, actually, and this really blew my mind when I saw this. I was at the Museum of Natural History in New York. They did a movie called When Solar Systems Collide. That's part of that. They said this big explosion, but it was like...

These systems came together and boom so form masses and Stars and man space so if you If you hang on to that and believe that which some people do Then you got to ask yourself Who created the system who created the so I'm not and that's that I am I mean I'm acknowledging That there had to be a beginning

Somewhere but what I'm saying is The vastness of the universe shows you just how and I'm stuck on this word how vast God is that's all I'm saying so when people You know we minimize it we do anthropomorphism all that is is taking human characteristics and put it on the divine or an abstract

We do that so we can understand it so we can relate to it. So it makes sense that if God is a spirit, but in language it automatically defaults to male because that's language that ain't God. Now I want to ask you something because I know that you are a Bible scholar. No, I'm not. What? I mean, I did some people out there who are who are true biblical scholars where they can go in

And that is I am not and I will never claim to be I don't want to ever insult anyone like Pastor Julius Malone. Who is a biblical scholar? Dr Williams from that cat can actually dig into the world. That's Harvard. Yeah, so my question to you is back in the day When they you know did all you know the slavery and brought these people before

the committee, when they sold black slaves back, they sold them for 30 pieces of silver. So, and that was the value for the black slave. My question to you is,

If Jesus was in black, why would they sell Jesus for 30 pieces of silver? He was still part of an oppressed group of people in an occupied territory. Some people went for more than 30 pieces. Slavery was universal. Most societies had some form of enslavement. Because when you conquered the people, you would make those people your slaves, your slaves, your servants, right? You had, and you got to remember, Palestine was occupied.

by the Romans. But didn't they have different value on different slaves? Oh yeah, based on your abilities. Based on your skills. The Babylonian captivity, when they went in and Babylon had conquered Israel, it took the best and brightest. So when you look at Daniel, the three Hebrew boys, right, they were the best and brightest. That's what the Babylonians did. They absorbed those folks who would

enhanced Babylonian society. Sounds familiar? Black folks coming to America. You take the best and the brightest and you put them to work. And so, you know, when if we understand how history works, if we understand that conquered people and slave people, I don't think it's right. I just think that that was the reality. And again, during the time of Jesus, again, when

Jesus was not crucified because he claimed to be the savior of the world. Jesus was crucified by Rome because Rome perceived him as a threat to Roman order and Roman power. Kind of like how they saw Dr. King and Malcolm X and all of those. The book of Clarence is great when he talks about that scene where he said, I was just scamming and the dude was like, yeah, you might be

But if you're pulling people together, you can basically have a change of mind and lead them in terms of insurrection. And that was going on during that time. Remember Barabbas? They had an insurgency going on during that time. The zealots. So I think if people understand the history a lot of times, and what this pastor was saying was, no, I'm not going to read that book because it demystifies Jesus. And I'm saying, no, I think you need to have an understanding.

of this and we put some the mystical Jesus and then we're not talking about the Jesus that really liberates. Let me do call. Call a welcome to the program. Good morning. Good morning brother Keith. Bro Rick. Please forgive the baritone in my voice. I'm struggling with the flu. I'm not trying to disguise myself for anything like that but

Just want to add to your conversation That there's very few pastors who are teaching the book of Revelation and the apocalypse What I disagree with that there are a whole lot of end-time preaching going on a Lot of end-time preaching going on. Yeah, yeah, I Heard it man, and this ain't new because when I was a kid

I heard a lot of end time preaching, right? And people trying to argue, is this the period of tribulation? And also, yeah, there is end time preaching going on. Well, it's not about suffering and the people of today, it's not aimed at us today. It's like, it's always put as something to come. We're in it now.

Yeah. I'm done. I'm mad. All right, man. So, call him up to the program. So, good morning. Good morning to you. How are you? All right. So, if you're in the last week, we were talking about, we were talking about God.

And I was talking, you were talking about Moses. And I was reading last night, I was talking about the Ethiopian woman. So last night, we talked about Moses and something like that. I happened to run across the book of Numbers last night, chapter 12.

And I started reading it. And I said, okay, God, let me read this. So that was that at the end, and then because they were talking about me picking out a DPO, but it was ruined. And I said, okay, God, talk to me, because I mean, I've never read that, that, that scripture before. And that's what you guys were talking about the last week. Is that, am I correct?

No, actually, we were talking yesterday about that. OK, so he did select an African-American woman. He appeared before Aaron and Marion in regards to that situation and said, you don't get to choose what kind of woman that I have for Moses. So that was to a sister. Well, go ahead, God. I'm just saying that didn't make.

That did my heart. And my understanding is, and I got a little confused, but my understanding is that Hagar was also of African descent. Okay. Okay. Well, thank you so much for bringing that out because I was going to go to another scripture, but when I ran across it, I just could not put that scripture down and I kept reading and kept reading. So you get into the other, you know, the suns and all of that. And I started reading some of those, but

I had to read that whole scripture and I really, it really gave my heart joy to read. It made sense though when you think about the amount of time that the Hebrew people spent in Egypt and there was probably some intermarrying going on. But again, Hagar is identified in the Bible in religious traditions as the Egyptian African woman who was enslaved and acted as a maid servant to Sarah. And so actually, you know, if we did it

the way things are supposed to be done. But I guess that's how they even looked at inter-ethnic relationships was that under Semitic law, no matter who your mama was, it was your daddy. And so Ishmael would have gotten the birthright. He was the oldest. You know, now I don't know how much they had to do with Hagar being Egyptian. I think with some other things going on with Hagar and Sarah and how they fell out and what that looked like. But

It ended up that then Sarah's offspring Isaac ended up getting the inheritance not Ishmael Okay, so there's some and I don't know and I should have asked yesterday when I was speaking with the sister that the so-called Arabs are supposed to be descendants of Ishmael Ishmael, okay, okay, you know that is like a rich

And that's why I say, read. Even though I'm not a preacher or an evangelist, if you just get into your Bible and just really just read, just read it and it'll get into your spirit. And you're like, wow, this is, as a black woman myself, I really take away a lot of that and I just kind of meditate on it. And I really appreciate the conversation that you all had yesterday. And I want to thank you for that.

Yeah, you know it is and there was a book that someone had given me many years ago taught my black Bible and really talk about the African presence in the Bible and as a matter of fact, isn't it supposed to be either Sudan Where the Ark of the Covenant is? You know, so yeah, and then the sister pointed out the impact

of Egyptians and Northern Africans on ancient philosophy, Plato, Aristotle, that there was something there. So yeah. Queen of Sheba. Queen of Sheba. Right. Right. I mean, you go in, but that whole piece that you talked about in numbers when I was going and doing research, I was, this is actually doing Black History Month, doing the children's fellowship. We were going through

pointing out the African presence, you know, in Jewish history and talked about that. But we started with Hagar. And then I think, isn't Merriam? Merriam. Yeah. I mean, there was so. And look, I understand, you know, Moses was Egyptian, right? Well, raised Egyptian.

It was raised in Egyptian. So I could see that, you know, your culture, your environment creates your sense of beauty when it comes to attraction. I ain't talking about no jungle fever.

I appreciate you. Appreciate you. Thank you. All right. I'm going to go to break and then get the call. Okay. Hey, call. I want you to be patient 41444452504144445250. Call. I'm going to grab you right after the break. We'll be right back.

for allowing us that funeral moment. Carla, welcome to the program. Good morning. This is Rick once more. A simple question. What was the inheritance of Sarah's children? Was it the land of Israel, as we understand it today? Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. Ultimately, that's what it became, yes.

And they're still fighting for that land to keep it. And the crazy thing is that Abraham came from Mesopotamia, right? So where Iraq and Iran is that's the area because remember they were nomadic people and they had they had did that but yeah originally so that makes them asian The Arabs and the Hebrews no the

Abraham is my understanding came from Mesopotamia had made his way They they went through and let me do this Rick I'm gonna look it up because I want to be more particular on this in terms of how they got to where they got to because they got to Egypt Because of Joseph, right? That's how they ended up in Egypt, but I think originally they're from Mesopotamia That's that is not what is Palestine today, but over what is Iraq or parts of Iran?

In response to that, let me say that the Babylonian captivity was a misery for the common Hebrew who was illiterate. But for the intelligentsia among the Hebrews, they came out with quite a bit of academic knowledge from those people. Most people don't know that Babylon was ancient Sumer, and it collapsed.

and became Babylon. And the thing about the Babylonians were they were meticulous record keepers. And there are some biblical scholars that said that what it became the codified, the pentateuch, all those things was probably done during the Babylonian captivity. Now that's one biblical view, I mean one scholarly view on it. But it's like...

It seems to be this dilemma that we as descendants of enslaved Africans have experience, right? The brutality of chattel slavery cannot be underestimated. But then when you look at some of the things that we as descendants of enslaved Africans have been exposed to is very different than maybe some other Africans throughout the world.

We hear now if there wasn't for enslavement would we be here? So those are kind of questions that you ask and then And I don't know if this is a question I should ask but then you know the only stupid questions one not asked is is it a benefit for us as Descendants of African folks for us to be here in America

That's that's a compelling question because I'm sitting here going back and forth with it You know we I said like I said yesterday and the fact that both of these sisters were descendants of East African lineage Which is different part because like I said in the 60s Swahili was if he was about being Afrocentric well Swahili is actually an Eastern African tongue

And so later on in life, but I understood where people were going. They were just trying to embrace as much of Africa as possible. So, all right, you're listening to Community Voice. Hey, when I come back, I'm gonna really change gears here. A little thing came across my feet this morning. The things that people put on hamburgers,

in different states. Some of these things will surprise you. All right, you listen to Community Voice, we'll be right back. With your host, Keith Parris. Two things I can't really do, whistle and really do my fingers. I can't, I can't. Oh, you can't stop your finger? Yeah, I can't do that.

I can do both, baby. All right. I'm like this. Hey, but you know that with spoken word that that's really disrespectful when snapping yet. Yeah, they find it disrespectful. I think that's supposed to be like an affirmation. That's what I mean. Sending in New York and in the Bronx. That's what I thought back in the day. OK. But sending here whatever it is like, no, don't do that. That's like disrespectful to the poet. All right. I don't know.

the strangest things people in each state put on their hamburgers and would you eat them now because this this is originated alright in michigan they put green olives green nah nah and wisconsin butter

The butter burger yeah, yeah, Sally's culvers. Yeah, the butter burger Not that you say it like that Colorado a whole helping of green chili No, I'm cool with that Florida shoe string potatoes. North Carolina coleslaw. Yeah, coleslaw, burgers, yeah.

That's the thing. Ooh, Missouri. Warm peanut butter. Oh. Warm peanut butter. Hey, just like Elvis. Didn't Elvis like the peanut butter and banana sandwich? No, no, no. We used to eat that in school.

for like a little snack, you know, they give you peanut butter and, you know, bananas, which I don't know why, because I used to tear everybody's stomach up in the class. Like everybody was in the corner of the restaurant. That's like an X-Lact. Well, I don't eat peanut butter. Somebody asked, on Facebook yesterday, is there a meat that you won't eat? Yes, liver.

I'm sorry and pork steaks liver liver and liver and thank you. Thank you, Julia and Brenda for saying we should not be eating organs, okay? Oklahoma shredded cheese and hickory sauce. Yes, sir. I ain't too bad hickory barbecue sauce. Yeah. Yes. Ah, yeah. That's a man. Oh, so that's a man. Oh, so that's a great South Carolina Pimento cheese. Nah, I don't like cheese like that.

It's like a tangy taste. Yeah. New Jersey pork roll. Nah, doc. Well, that would be like the equivalent of bacon. A pork roll. That's a see, but that ain't but that ain't bacon. Yeah, I don't even know what a pork roll is. Yeah, that's that's that's like that's not. Oh, this one is really awful. Oh, Montana, peanuts and Miracle Whip.

Peanut yeah, amen everybody in line for the bathroom again X-Wax on the sales Right Texas Frioles and Fritos beans and Fritos Wait, no wait you said Fritos

Yep, black homemade black beans, cheddar onions, pecante sauce and then those chips add crunch while the beans make the whole thing more substantial. So Fritos. Nah, man. I can see with chili and Fritos. This makes sense. Alaska, reindeer sausage. Why they got to be reindeer? Because reindeer is a lot of reindeer up in Alaska. Is that is that where the sausage come from?

Yeah, we kill reindeer and then make sausage. Like they do deer sauce. Sorry, Rudolph. New Mexico, green chili. Oh, Illinois. Jeer, I can never pronounce this. Jeer De Nira, that it's like that hot Italian relish. No. I call it something else, but I ain't gonna say it, I'm gonna mess it up.

Ohio. Goeta. Cincinnati's goeta mixes meat, oats, and seasoning into a breakfast staple also works on burgers. Meat, wait, meat, oats, and what? And seasonings. I mean, that might be good. That might be good. Somebody just texted me, be shocked or surprised, peanut butter on a burger is great. Man, that's boo boo fast. Oh, I don't even know what this is. We might try it. Connecticut.

Steamed cheddar Connecticut steamed cheeseburger does things differently right from the start. That's how at Ted's and meridian the beef and cheddar are steamed separately before meeting on the bun the Resulting blanket of melted cheese looks nothing like a tidy American cheeseburger. No one seems to especially be bothered. Wow. Oh, I just had these if you go to malarix Louisiana fried booting booting

Falls boating boating. Thank you. As in Jeff from Louisiana boating brings season meek and rice into the burger business. That wouldn't be too bad on the burger. Oh, anybody ever had scrapple? No, no, what's grapple? You go out east. Scrapple. Scrapple is food.

It's hard to describe what scrapple is. It's kind of like a meat, but it's not as like you... Wait, kind of like a meat, so it ain't meat? The first time I ever had scrapple was when I was at Mount St. Mary's. Pennsylvania's scrapple tradition gives burgers a breakfast topping with some regional history behind it. Octaro tavern and Oxford lists a farmer's burger with American cheese and crispy scrapple. The fries slice as another...

Texture to the beef all those grapple skeptics may still need some convincing in Ohio. I mean, I'm sorry in Idaho Huckaberry Jam. Oh Huckaberry. This is good in Kansas burnt ends. Oh, yeah Yeah, burnt ends. Yeah Rhode Island hot wiener toppings. I'll win a tradition that's crossed over to hamburgers

Let's wiener hamburger with mustard onion celery salt notice what I didn't include in this was that catch up Yeah, notice. Yeah, I don't go out east. Yeah, you order hot dog You don't put ketchup on a hot dog. Yeah, it's only mustard mustard relish onions, okay? Tradition when I was in North Carolina, I that's what Polish is

You know to put ketchup or barbecues, man, you know put that you put mustard and relish. Yeah, I had classmates from Philadelphia and they saw me eat a hot dog and I'm putting the cat You don't put ketchup on a hot dog So is so is a hot dog. Well, no never mind. We do this here, California's avocado A lot of people do avocado. I love avocado toast man. I tried to do avocado. It don't taste like nothing man

Alright, I have a seafood allergy. So I'll never have this in Maryland crab dip. Yeah, I don't eat seafood like that Now since I've never won until Ron and I visited Annapolis I Was out there for four years. I never Never had had a crab cake We have something at the Mount called a surf cake and what they

People would jokely call it fish bits. Fish bits. All the pieces of the fish you put in and you make this little surf cake. Indiana, peanut butter. West Virginia ramps. What are ramps? What is a ramp? Who would look up? I'll come back. Hawaii, not surprising. Pineapple and teriyaki sauce.

Uh, New York, ro, Rochester meat hot sauce. Rochester sauce? Rochester sauce? North Dakota, sauerkraut. Now you do Rubens? Who? Rubens. I think to have a good Ruben, you do need to have some crowd on it for a good Ruben. Delaware Scrapple, again, that's one of those East Coast things. Georgia.

fried green tomatoes. Now, I would do season them joints. I'll do that all day, even though I don't eat the red tomatoes on the regular burger. But if you fry the gringles and season them, it just adds a certain taste to it. I can't explain it, but yeah, it's excellent. And Nevada, the chorizo patty. What's that? Chorizo is like this pork. Like, actually it's pretty good. Massachusetts cranberry sauce.

Not surprised in Iowa Maytag blue cheese. I don't know if you've ever had Maytag blue cheese Yeah, it's the same company same city that they do the washing machines. It's famous for their blue cheese Let's see Virginia country ham Is the fry that Virginia baked him Arizona roasted green chilies Vermont maple syrup on a burger on a burger

Now that, what else is added to the burger that you put maple syrup on? Okay. Try to add, I just can't, I'm not a sweet eater. So I just don't see putting like syrup on a. Well, maybe, you know, it would. And of course, back in my poverty days, I did have syrup sandwiches. And those was some good, no, I don't know if it was good because it was in our mind.

Because I would not do a serp sandwich today, but when I was a kid, serp sandwich, ketchup sandwich, mayo sandwich. Oh, he did it. I gotta put some meat. It gotta be some cheese or meat if I'm using sandwich bread.

Bryson, one of my little nephews, when Bryson's not a little anymore, when he was real little, I'd make a sandwich, a ham sandwich with some cheese, and some light bread, and some salmon spread, and I'd cut it up and give him a piece. Man, he loved it. I'll tell you, as a matter of fact, I think he ate, I used to do that on spam. Sometimes that can get problematic, but. All right, so when we get back, we'll be talking about Maine, and then I have a question for all you music.

Folks out there. Let's let's see what that engenders. All right, you listen to community voice gonna take a quick break. We'll be right back

A you are in news. I am so honored to work for President Trump and the American people. That was new White House Press Secretary Katie Zachariah at holding her first briefing today. It lasted about 14 minutes and more than eight were her opening statements. She called on just three reporters, Breitbart Fox News and the Daily Mail. Fox's Peter Ducey did ask her a policy. All right, as we put the crazy things or things that people put on burgers in different states,

The great state of Mississippi. Comeback sauce. Anybody know what a comeback sauce is? Sauce to make you come back. Sauce to make you come back, huh? I got that comeback sauce. Pulling power. Main. Not surprising. Lobster, that's it. Lobster, surf and turf. Surf and turf? Yeah, that's main.

Kentucky beer cheese. I taste the beer cheese in North Carolina and boy, it's nasty to me. This might not be bad. South Dakota cream cheese and jalapenos. Creams. Alabama white barbecue, of course, is gonna be white barbecue sauce in Alabama. White barbecue sauce is good. Come on, brother.

I mean, come on brother get with the people brother cream Those are the mix one who you know black and white people with a cream

No, brother give me some white barbecue sauce. You know this white piece of paper Black keys all right call them to the program Good morning. Hey, good morning. How you doing? I'm good brother. What's happening?

and I also want to ask you who would be in the Final Four in the WNBA? Yeah. You got the Valkyrie? Well, I had fears that they would make it into the Final Four, but I really thought Minnesota would. I did, too. But you know what? They're two big women being hurt when they matched up because they got New York, right? And so New York was just so much bigger.

Right. I think the Valkyrie going to win it. I agree. I agree. The Valkyrie is going to win it. I think that one, even though it's an expansion team, they were in the playoffs last year. I don't know if the Fever made the playoffs last year. I just think they have more experience in the way that they play. I think it's going to be a tough match up for the Fever. Will, do you think that Indiana resigned Kelsey Mitchell? They should. I know they should, but you know. They should. Yeah. They should.

I know, uh, thank God that Sophie Cunningham is a free agent. Yeah. Boy, you know what? But let me say this about Sophie Cunningham. When she was at Missouri, the same thing was happening. Hey, man, you need to be over here working. What else you got, man? Well, it is a little bit, but I'm going back to the Bible. What is your perspective on the Ethiopian Bible and especially the book of God? I'm going to get the Ethiopian Bible.

I have not read it, but the sister also suggested yesterday, and she's an archaeologist that I get. So I am going to get the Ethiopian Bible. I had just ordered it and I was really interested in the book of Enoch. Right, right. I know Craig talks a lot about the book of Enoch.

That was one of the books that they removed from the King James. Didn't make the canon. Well, you know, the western, you know, the western, they, they, they changed a lot into, into their King James or different from the. Well, no, you got to remember. And that's the piece. When you look at, at the original canon, I, and I'm, oh man, I'm going to pull this up. When you look at the original canon, the Catholics have more books in their Bible than the Protestants do.

I think those books that's included in the Catholic Bible is the Apocrypha books. So it was just a matter of what canon, canon being the collection of scriptures that was going to be recognized and used. Speaking of that, I want to know what's the difference between them and the Catholics? They pretty much the same. What do you mean? One can marry women and the other one don't. I mean...

Well, that was the whole thing about what what that was one of the issues about this this because a lot of people don't realize early on Priest could be married Right, but as the Catholic Church began to accumulate properties Now you have an inheritance piece going on, right? And so then that's when it got because as I understand that who was the people the Borges When a couple of them popes, I know at least one was a pope

Mary so I think that that whole celibacy thing came but there was some property things going on and probably why the Catholic Church made that decision Because early on even when you talk about I don't know if it's infusions with Paul talks about the qualifications of a Bishop was that he had to be a Man of one wife Now that was because polygamy was still being practiced during that time. So you did have men who out of

out of law would have to say marry their widowed sister-in-law. It's right out there. It's right up. Can you hear me? Yes, sir. Hey man, I was listening to you and we were, I was thinking the same thing in game two when, what's his name again? It's Kev Prawn. Yeah.

But what he was trying to do make contact is keep it on the ground opposed to him knocking out. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He was he was pitching low because with those low pitch you either get them to to ground into a double play. Right. Right. Or you know something something like that. But if you notice even going back to when the pitcher that his pitch counter was high and they ended up taking them out so he ended up pitching what three four innings. Yeah. But I know he was a closer.

He was a close. He closed it out. Not Trevor. Not Trevor. I'm not talking about Trevor. McGill's or McGill's or something. No, no, no, no, no. I'm not Trevor because, you know, Trevor only pitched one and a half innings, I think. No, he just did the ninth. He just did the ninth. Okay. He did the ninth. Yeah. So even, so even though with that, because he kept throwing the ball, but when he would throw the ball, he would miss though, even though he was throwing low, but it would, it would throw

down into the dirt, so he was trying to throw the low slider. He wasn't going to throw a fastball down the middle, because that's what they're looking for. So it was down in the way. That's why I appreciate John Smote so much. Because he does the pitchers mind, and he gets into the head. He said, because look, I didn't throw you these two 98 mile an hour fastballs up high. And then I throw you a change up at 78.

But you've been sped up because of the fastball. Exactly, so you don't know what's happening. Yeah, I was, I love, I mean, he gave me insight, but I think what he was trying to do was make sure he didn't give up home runs. Of course, yeah. And I think he ended up with about 10 pitches, 11 pitches. Yeah, but, but Ashley, I don't know if you saw that pitch, but I think it was an inside change up when the ball went up and it just dropped. Yeah.

it dropped right on him. So he didn't, when he was swinging, it looked so cold watching it on TV and it happened so fast because it came in, then it just changed direction. And you expected it to be here and it dropped somewhere else. But I was like you, it was frustrating to see those balls low hitting the dirt because you was thinking that he was going to walk another back and load the bases and then they're going to score, right?

Yeah, I was with you with that, but I understood what he was doing. And see, that's the piece of Mizorowski, right? Once they figured out, even though he's throwing 105, they still can time it up. And then if you keep following them off, it's going to drive up his pitch count, which is going to take him out again. And that's what happened to Yamamoto. Bower is what, 11 pitches. Yeah, drove him out again. And he was tired, man, because you know, you trying to figure out he's throwing hard.

It is, and it says so about Murph. I love Murph, man. Murph is one of those old school managers. You know, he's a baseball manager. When I look at Roberts, he's one of those guys, look, I got all this talent.

But Murph is out there, man. He's doing strategy. But I'm going to tell you something. He's playing chess. He's playing chess. You know, it's good to see that because I agree with you. He understands the game of baseball. He's playing small ball even when he took yellows out the lineup. That was a good move. It really was in game one. Are they going to win game three? The guy that they have on the mound tonight, Gasser has been too inconsistent. Robert?

I think it's going to be a bullpen. But if you start off, if you start off and giving up hits and runs and that momentum goes to LA, being in LA to bottom fans going crazy, it's going to spark the team. And then the playoff,

situation like this, you can't far behind early, especially on the road. And I think that the Dodgers are filling a certain level of desperation. Of course. Of course they are. They've been on three years in the road. I would say this. I would say this. I kind of feel that they will win game three because they back against the wall.

But if they will, it's a good possibility they get momentum and they could come back in 3-2. Yeah, because you got the next three in LA. In LA, exactly. Now, the Brewers have proven, unlike in San Diego, they proved until the playoffs that they can win in LA. Wait, now, you do know the whole stat was until they won in San Diego, that the Brewers

Couldn't win on the road in the playoffs. There was only 11 on the road. Yeah. What about the American League? I hate to hold the phone. I hate to hold up the call. What about the American League? Who do you think is coming out of there? Cleveland. I think it's going seven. Cleveland. From what I saw last night, it possibly could be Cleveland. Cleveland, Jack. It's going to be Cleveland.

and I have to see what the pitching is looking like. Like you know, Peralta pitched last night for Tampa. Yeah, Cleveland man. Cleveland got some hit. Cleveland got some pitches, man. They got some fans. They couldn't do anything last night. If those things advance to the World Series, Cleveland and and Boers and I'm gone. Who, who do you call? I know your hometown favorite, but I'm looking for that. Now, Cleveland did win a World Series in 1948. Bob Feller. Yeah, 48. Who's alive? Hey, Boers are like never.

82. No, they went to the World Series. They didn't win it. I got a question for you, though, both of y'all, whoever can answer it. You remember the National League used to didn't have a designated hitter. Sure it did. The pitcher had to hit. Yeah. Yeah, the pitcher used to have to hit, but now they're doing the designated hitter in the National League. Yeah, I mean, I think, you know, a lot of people didn't like the DH. That's why there was more home runs in the American League than the National League.

But I do. Now, the thing that I always liked about the National League because it wasn't a DH, you have to really play baseball, you know, where in the American League, it's the long ball, right? When did they change that, though? That's my question. When did they change that? And let me say this real quickly as I looked that up. There's 73 books in the Catholic Bible. Oh, 66 in the Protestant, 73 in the Catholic. Yeah. And 88 in Ethiopia. OK. Yeah.

All right, Joe, I'm going. All right. Nice talking to you guys. Yes, sir. All right. It used to be that they would alternate when they did the World Series. Yeah. Yeah. But you know, with all of these pictures and the tummy judge surgeries and everything like that, they wanted to look out for the pictures. But you know, they could still picture you. You know how rare it is for just three years ago? Yeah. Yeah, it was part of the, yeah.

The league briefly returned to their traditional split with pictures hidden in National League 22 the DH became a permanent cross both leagues Because I know it used to be I don't know if you were in the American League City You could do the DH and if you're in the National League City you couldn't All right. Hey, you listen to community voice. We're gonna take a break. We'll be right back Welcome back welcome back and we talked about a little bit of

Everything and nothing but let me Let's see Zebra says Statistically Milwaukee Brewers protected the win if they're able to beat the Dodgers on the World Series. Okay No, no jinx intended Man, I think bless you. I think the national media

Don't want to see the brewers. I think they do I think that there are a lot of people like if you're a baseball purist They like the brewers. They feel like the brewers other than hitting home runs as far as the marketing aspect I think they'll be able to sell it. I think they'll be able to sell it. Of course, you'd love the Dodgers You would love the Dodgers and the Yankees. It was too big as Marcus, but I think that the way the brewers are winning

They're getting people's attention and so people kind of that that that what's happening Let me do this y'all. I was watching if anybody knows anybody been listening this program any number of years Know that one of my favorite programs of all time back in the day was soul Produced by Alex Hazel as a matter of fact Hazel it his niece did the movie mr. There's some great songs on Saturday Night Fever, man. It just seemed like before that song, can't get to heaven. It seemed like at the end of that song that they started shaking them.

Oh, yeah. Because Jimmy Fallon has them like sounding like goats. Hey, man, stop shaking his dude, man. I never liked Luke the Vandross. How did Luke get into this? You know what, Keith? It's almost time to go. And I'm going to go get me a camel burger. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know if he was falsetto. Who? But Johnny Mathis.
