Good morning. Welcome to Community Voice. I'm going to be looking for a new job because I'm tired of being around all these angry Negroes. You know, y'all don't know how good you have it in America today.
They go here murder right? Oh, yeah, he's like how those mystery things
Have you heard it? He said, heard it. We wrote it. So I love the brothers brothers. Good morning. Good morning, Clark. Who you with? Hey, hey, hey. Apostle. Hey, man, thank you for the appeals, man. They're starting to clear up. Hey, man, don't make me sound like a pusher. Hey. I can see clean. You have to read up. That's exactly what happened. Thank you for the appeal. That's exactly what happened. You know, I want to.
I want to, and I'll work on it start today, starting today. I really, I'm trying to figure out what is there a balance between civic engagement and partisan activism as it relates to, I don't want to just be specific, specific, the black church.
You mentioned something. There have been several pastors who had relationships with Republican leadership and invited that leadership to their church where the congregation was almost 90% against, but they brought the person in. And so that's why I always caution faith groups to be careful about
How you do civic engagement, I mean that and I know it's pretty wide range certainly we start talking about issues of justice and social justice when I had Eric Wallace on One of the terms because you know, he's a black conservative one of the terms that he pushed back on with this whole thing about because I said, well, let's talk about justice because that's a buzzword when people hear social justice, right? But no justice period
Um, justice and society. Well, I think you have to be careful about what you call civic engagement because many of the black pastors that trotted out Republican leadership, it was not about civic engagement. It wasn't. It was about partisan politics. It was about helping to push a narrative in an agenda. In some of those cases, they did not offer an opportunity for the Democrat
that was running against some of those candidates to have that same, you know, ability to come into the church. So I think, you know, the first thing service we can do is to call some of it what it is. It wasn't all civic engagement. It was people who were cultivating relationships. In some cases who were getting financial assistance, whether it was through grants, funding, dollars that were coming in to build certain entities. All of this was not civic engagement. So let me let me be agnostic here for a moment.
so does it make as opposed to any other day but go ahead does it make a difference whether and I'm just because you did mention the whole partisan piece of this does it make a difference if I'm trying to get a grant from a democratic administration as opposed to trying to get a grant from a republican administration so what what for me is the problem is that I am not inviting either party either person either candidate to the church
for the purposes of what you're going to do for my church. I'm inviting you because I understand that my congregants are getting ready to go and make a decision and I need them to be informed about the policies and platforms. Are you doing that from the ideal? I'm doing that from as far as I'm concerned the literal because see the one thing that a lot of the churches have to realize is that what's happening at the election I mean on election day is bigger than the church.
Because also how people get health care how people get food access how people get development in their communities So I'm I can't as the faith leader bring people in With only the benefit of the church on my mind and we gonna get a new rec center Or we gonna get you know our streets paved in front of us or it's gonna be some
you know uh bush them came up with all their fake faith money you know to kind of coerce people over to the republican side if you are doing what you're supposed to do then i'm looking at the totality of my parishioners so i gotta i gotta bring people up here so you understand where they are on education where they are on health care all of the topics that influence your life housing affordability
All of that has to be a priority. And I'm just thinking too many people bring you in based on what you can do for the church. But don't I vote for what you can do for me as an individual? So I mean, that's a collective, but as an individual, isn't that how I'm voting? Wait, say that again? I'm voting as an individual for what you can do for me. I mean, yes and no, because I vote as an individual that's concerned about the broader community. You're an outlier.
because you know but no because like I said some of my friends will say if I was voting my interest I probably will vote Republican okay you know but I'm voting community interest I'm voting black but even then they see something where there's a still in I don't I think that politics is quit pro quo
I think it's with the voters. That's why you will have Trump going in to announce all these different initiatives, like the whole submarine base that they're building in Maryland. Well, you know, Maryland is a blue, blue state. So, but I'm just, I'm just saying, and again, I'm just having a general conversation. Westmore helped negotiate most of that. Right. And then chose not to give him any credit for it, but anyway. So I just wonder, I think it's,
It's a conversation of when You know because well, I can't get them anymore But man, I used to watch and there was a whole lot of black people's members of his church Jimmy Swagger Whole lot of black people and and I'm not even gonna get into him going after Obama. I'm gonna get into him supporting right wing groups in Mozambique Right, you know people believe that Jimmy Swagger
ended up leaving the assembly of God because of that scandal. He worked that out. No, the assembly of God kicked him out because he was providing support for South African-backed rebels in Mozambique. And even after he left, he's still, and I think the church still does. So I don't know. I mean, I don't, does it matter what your church politics are? I mean, is that what we're there for?
Yeah, I mean, because first of all, though, when you say your church politics and people who have framed and, you know, politics can be a dirty word and people want to run from it. Let's just be clear. Politics drives what we do. Everything we do is political. Everything is political. It drives what we do. You know, I think where the issue for me is is that people who abuse some of these roles and because of either personal relationships that they have, things that they are financially doing for their their church, you know,
and by way of, like I said, development, whatever it is, that you are ignoring members that's sitting in front of you who looking at you like, I don't care how much money somebody is willing to throw our way. When you look at the totalities, policies, again,
just at the very core, the efforts to deny black representation in Congress, to deny black seats in the legislature, to figure out ways to draw folks out of their district. You can be 30% of a state's population, but be given one seat when you are entitled to two or three. All of that stuff is by design. And there are so many people selling us down the river for that. Do you think that the people in Wisconsin care overall, black people overall?
and Wisconsin cares about redistricting in Missouri? No, but they could care about it in Wisconsin because you have a, you just said, we have 5050 state. So how do Republicans keep coming up with the majority control of the city? And so it's the same thing.
So whether or not I'm paying attention to the big things that's going down in other states, although I realize at the federal level, when you start talking about federal financial aid, closing the Department of Education, Medicare, health care subsidies for ACA, then yep, I need to care about what's going on down in Tennessee and Mississippi, because if you can't send fair-minded people and people of color to DC at the end of the day, all of that impacts us.
So whether it's redistricting here and that Republicans have managed the main control of the Senate and the the assembly in Wisconsin because they keep cheating on the way they drew those lines. Redistricting matters here in the state. And then on a broader scale, we're not sending Democrats, you know, we're not sending progressive minds to DC. Then it changes federal policy, which has the ability to do even more harm in some cases.
Who would have thought these people would be trying to dismantle the Department of Education? Well, no, that's not new. It may not be new, but what have we seen it done at this level? Who would have thought 300,000 black women would have lost a job with this doge now? No, you did remember that the Department of Education used to be under health and human services. I appreciate it. And they pulled it out. And this goes back to Ronald Reagan trying to kill the Department of Education. So that's all. Excuse me.
It's always been a pillar of federal governance when it came, but but a pillar of Republican federal government. Yes. No, it's always not tried to kill the depot. No, no, if anything, they've tried to increase it and make sure the funding is there. Caller, welcome to the program. Good morning. Hello. Yeah. Okay, listen, it's a big discussion. Man, you didn't chase Michelle out here.
bringing people in let's be realistic man everybody has interests you know everybody has some sort of interest in um in trying to gain something but when you look at what's going on right now in our in our country especially if you look at the the the the socialist the democrat socialist party that is being created here it's a scary thing it plays into the hand and i've been saying this for years man this is not new this agenda 2030
You gotta realize something. You need to talk about, you need to talk about 2025. You talk about Agenda 2030. We're seeing the impacts of the 2025 project. These people ain't looking at it right now, brother. There is what's happening right now. It is happening right now. They're looking into the future, man. They were looking into the future when they first wrote the manifesto.
They are now implementing the manifesto. It's interesting that one of the authors of the 2025 project is currently over the Office of Management and Budget. So what I'm saying is that people, I was taking a generic position.
right? I'm just asking, is there a difference between when black pastors are courting or or or democratic folks are courting black pastors and or if Republican candidates are courting black pastors, right? So I'm just asking, is there a difference? That's a good question, man. For a host, you know, it's a non partisan. It's a non partisan question. I mean, this is open to discussion, but either party
But when you say gender, when you say 2025, 2025, brother, is like a little carnival on the side. That was a 900 page document. Okay. And many of those things, many of those things in 2025, the Trump administration is putting into effect.
Brother, this is bigger than Trump. No, we can say it's bigger than Trump, but I'm just saying what's the impact. So let me ask you a question. Does it make a difference? No, I'm not abating. I'm asking you a question. So is there a difference? We haven't got a conclusion on my question, but you want to ask a question. Your question is, what's your question again? No, no, go ahead. No, you said you had a question. What's your question? My question was, brother, have you viewed 20
the, uh, the, uh, not project, but the 2030 agenda. That's what you mean. I have not. So you tell me what are, what are some, take some of the things out of the 2030 agenda that concerns you. The whole deal is happening, right? Give me, give me, give me some specifics. What is it about the 20?
If you want to stop the man and top me off, that's fine. You know more than me, okay? Now can a dumb man say something? You know more than me. Can you answer my question? I believe that. Please answer my question. I'm still trying to get you asked me a question. I'm trying to get to my point. You keep coming. No, you're trying to get to a point. Okay, but you're getting to a talking point. I think you have a responsibility to educate the listeners.
on what's in the 2030, no, no, because I didn't bring up 2030. You have a responsibility because you brought it up. So tell me what is concerning to you in the 2030 agenda? The whole idea of population control, of population movement control, okay? It's a serious.
issue man the government you say it's a whole issue of population control what does it say specifically no no no you said population control i'm trying to get an understanding mech so you're saying population control what does that mean population movement control brother okay movement control what does that mean that means brother everything that you do is documented and controlled
and it's coming faster than you think. It's even taking place with these little... So what is segregation? What is segregation? What's segregation? Hey, Keith, hey, play it. I'm gonna get on off the phone, man, because you can do it. All right, please. All right, peace. So I'm like... So population could... Well, population control and movement was segregation, right?
It didn't allow us to move into certain neighborhoods, right? Where we could take advantages of the resources in those neighborhoods. That seemed to be, so what's new about that? Carl, welcome to the program. Good morning. Hello. Hello. Oh, I had to turn my radio off. I just called to say good morning. Hey, Solis. And I want to do a shout out to Leach. He always called me in with his bullcrap interrupting him.
Oh, man, people used to call in. They had to literally stop taking phone calls. So at least I used to listen regularly and people be so angry at me. I mean, I'm cussing. I appreciate you. He had people cussing and I that's when I used to pick up the twins, right? And they were in
Great school then and I'd have to man turn the radio down because man, I'm telling you man He he elicited a response and I remember a few years ago. We were having a all-staff meeting over at The what is that the Claiborne Bitsons place and they were talking about program and I said well y'all can see what you want people listen You know you could he had people actively listening so
No, I just think that my buddy used to say, you take my money, you wear my brand. And I think it's very difficult. Organize is like the NAACP, which is an advocacy group and the story. And I'm a member of the NAACP, but there is the situation. I want to say,
It was Bloomberg who was the mayor of New York City and he went in and he wanted to limit the size of a soft drink you could get from the fountain He wanted to limit the size of that because of the sugar and all the health negative outcomes you have from over-consuming soda and Then this woman thinking name was Hazel Duke she was president of New York
NAACP because they had received money from These soda companies She had to come out against it even though people would argue that Well, you know, there's a health benefit from limiting the amount of soda that you drink, right? So I think that you know when that's that's the thing and I don't know if black people Can sell finance
a lot of the advocacy. But again, if you take my money, you wear my brand. And so it's very difficult for people who, and even in the Democratic Party, there are factions there, like the environmental folks. The environmental folks have a whole lot of money, right? They have a whole lot of money. Folks who are part of that whole green agenda. There's a whole lot of money, more money than people sometimes realize.
And so the question then becomes, and maybe it just doesn't happen that way. Another, what is the group, the APAC, which is an APAC, I'm trying to think, but it's a Jewish lobbying group who spends a lot of money in democratic politics. And a lot of times it's in support of Israel. And this becomes complicated, especially
if you are and uh biden found this out in michigan harris found it out in michigan was this whole thing in today's october 7th so you know everything that happened after october 7th well there were many people from the middle east who weren't jewish who had a problem with how israel conducted that war and it put kamala harris in a very difficult situation
Because there are some people no matter what Israel never does any wrong And there's a lot of money that's being spent to support you know or have American support for the Israeli government You know, but then we cannot lose sight that maybe 14 people 1400 people lost their lives on October 7th who were Jewish But 75,000 Palestinians have lost their life since October 7th. So how can I ignore right?
the 75,000 that have lost their lives. I remember the sister that came in, she worked at Ascension. I cannot think of what the doctor's name, Dr. Ali. And we were talking and she said, you know what, Palestinian children don't even have time to grieve. And she was talking about the human impact of that war. So, I mean, it is money over everything, was it cash over everything?
And that's the reality. So you're listening to Community Voice. I'm your host Keith Parris. This is still you. This is Julius. Hey, Julius. I'm going to get over here where I can check the comments. You're listening to Community Voice. We're going to take a quick break. We'll be right back. Welcome back to Community Voice. Yesterday, I was picking up some food.
Actually, food was really, really good. My lard's never been out in Bayshore. And they do like a Southern cuisine. But, you know, they have a music playing overhead. And let me do, so I'm listening, I was listening to Midnight Train to Georgia. And Midnight Train, here we go. Train to Georgia.
Who wrote it? Okay And I was you know because I always want to know who wrote the song And this is what's really surprising I tell people all the time that you know we Americans are more connected ethnically or where there's always this kind of overflowing things that happen
Let's carve it out to speak to somebody. Okay. Now we, um, in 1973, um, Jack, um, can't talk not glass 90 pips did midnight train to Georgia. It was a big hit, real big hit. Um, but.
What most people, and I didn't know until yesterday, was that this actually was a country song. Really? It's a country song. The inspiration was songwriter Jim Weatherly called the friend in 1970 in Fair Fawcett. He was good friend with Lee Majors. Remember when he the six million six million dollar man who was dating Lee Majors at the time and she answered the phone.
Fawcett mentioned that she was packing to take a midnight plane to Houston to visit her parents. So in the original song, he fell in love, weatherly fell in love with the phrase and wrote a country tune in 45 minutes called Midnight Plane to Houston about a man leaving Los Angeles after failing to find stardom. Sissy Houston, soul singer Sissy Houston, Whitney's mom.
recorded the song next. The name change, her producer suggested changing it to Midnight Train to Georgia because having Houston in the title of the song sung by a singer named Houston by confused listeners. And the train fit her Southern roots better. Weatherly agreed and as long as the core of the story stayed intact. Gladys Knight makes it a legend. The success, Gladys Knight loved the soulful narrative
about a devoted partner following a dreamer back home. And her emotional delivery turned it into a massive number one hit and her signature song. So it was a country song. And I was thinking of some other songs that didn't Lionel Richie write Lady? Either he wrote it or Kenny Rogers wrote it.
Pull it up now, Kenny Rogers. No, Lionel Richie wrote Lady, and he wrote it for Kenny Rogers. Oh, did he? Yeah. Yep. Okay. Under pressure to finish the song for Kenny Rogers, Lionel Richie wrote the second verse of Lady while on the toilet. Yeah.
Richie wrote ladies specifically for Rogers Rogers admiration for his then wife Mary Ann Gordon whom he called a real lady inspired the title change from the original in the original title song was baby Richie credits Rogers with launching his solo career after Rogers thanked him on stage at the American Music Awards for Lady Call the one to the program Turn your radio down there

Going to Kansas City by Luther Harrison. Wilbur, Wilbur Harrison. Wilbur Harrison, okay. And uh, welcome to, welcome to New Orleans by Fast Dominoes. Say it again. Welcome to New Orleans by Fast Dominoes. Okay. Welcome, oh, Fat Dominoes, oh.
Was it a rapper or something like that? No, Fat Dominos was rock and roll back in the day. It was 50s. So who was that rapper named Domino? It was a rapper named Domino. Oh, he's talking about Domino. It was a rapper named Domino. Yeah, but it was Fat's Domino. Oh, he made... Yeah, it's like an old school kid, man. Y'all ready? Got another call? Yeah, call him up to the program. Wow, so we had 27.
My projects wouldn't be a state or city. No, man. That's a neighborhood. Now, this now this one I was kind of I've been rolling around in my little brain. Rocky Mountain High. That's not a state. But I mean, unless you're talking about Colorado, talking about Colorado. No. Yeah, that's pushing it. That's pushing it. So they said California my way by the Dramatics California sunshine, which is they did two different songs.
I thought it was kind of hard. All right, call the one to the program. Hey, good morning, fellas. Good morning. I put my radio off for a minute, but did you say out of the way, Milwaukee? Yeah, Milwaukee, Milwaukee. I never heard that song. They played it, you know, in the 80s. I mean, so it must have been due too well on the chart. No, I think it was one of those little regional songs.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, he but he it was a some odd to his hometown Did you uh? I'm officially done with basketball man. That's it. I'm gonna do one more year, but that party over with okay, all right But who I play this week The Bears, oh man, that's about to go down. They don't
Obviously, the network didn't think that it was going to be a game of itty-worth, because they moved from the three o'clock window to the 12 o'clock window. How would they figure that? And that game is a rivalry game, but yeah, they went from three, and then they changed the time. Somebody had no idea what was going on for the game.
And originally they thought it was going to be at 325, but now it's been moved to new. So. Oh, thank you. Thank you. Viva Las Vegas. Viva Las Vegas. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I guess that person ain't going to church, huh? Depends on the church. Depends on the church. No. No, they just be going. Yeah, they on their way up. All right. All right. Y'all got the 49ers. So call them up to the program. That's a doozy. Yeah.
Viva Las Vegas, I love man when they used to do that when UNL Viva was playing Viva Las Vegas Call her up to the program. All right, how you doing? Good. Good. Good. All right. I got one from way back in the day. You guys might not know. It's called the group. It's called the last for it and they did a song called New York, New York, the Big Apple. Okay. Okay. California Dreaming, Bobby Woodman.
Oh, yeah. All right. Wait, wasn't there something made about Harlem? Uh, it is, uh... Well, I know it ain't cut across a hundred and ten street. Which is in Harlem, by the way. Which is in Harlem. Which is in Harlem.
Someone just put in Robert Johnson, Sweet Home Chicago. Oh, yeah, yeah, Sweet Home Chicago. All right. Hey, you're listening to Community Voice. We're up to 30. We're up to 30? Yeah. You sure?
Well, Clark, Clark, you want to check the math? Yeah, man, you might want to fact check that. They told me there would be no math. You're listening to Community Boys. We're going to take a quick break. We'll be right back. Hi, good morning. I had a couple that came through me. Some people text me. Not I lost my heart in San Francisco. I left my heart in San Francisco. The great Tony Bennett.
That's right. You said going back to Indiana, right? They said by the Jackson fire, but yeah. Someone said, um, not Bush City, not Bush City limits by Tina Turner. Oh, I've never heard that one. Um, there was another one here. Um, this is a burp backrack song. Do you know the way to San Jose done by, um, beyond war?
Now, you know what just surprised me is the information that you just pulled up about Virginia. Yeah. And all of those songs about Virginia. Virginia. Yeah, the food fighters. Wow. Yeah. I mean, you know, people people write about write about their experiences. And yeah, by the time I got the fingers, that was a Campbell song. I forgot Galveston or Galveston. All right.
Okay, I think we wore it out. Yeah Yeah, listen somebody else can can think of Let's see, I can't think of none. What about oh man, let me do this. I'll pull it up As you can see I'm wearing my brewers hat. Let's go brewers. Let's go Yeah, no, I think we gonna do it tonight man. I think
Yellow Rose of Texas. Yellow. So that's a country song, ain't it? Yeah, it is also, let's see. Yellow Rose of Texas. So that's the girl that was on the map. No, this is like one of, it's almost like their state song. It says Yellow Rose of Texas is a traditional American folk song dating back to the 1850s. Wow.
T-Race a rain famous as a marching tune in 1955 Mitch Miller the late great Mitch Miller did yellow rolls of Texas I call one to the program Good morning. Good morning too short Oakland. Yeah Yeah, I forgot about okay 31 31 Yes, sir, all right, call one to the program
I'm not trying to be facetious or anything. Isn't that a Michigan hat? Not a brewer's hat? No, this is the original brewer's hat. It's the original. The original. Yep. Yep. Yeah, you can actually, you can actually get that one. Yeah, you can actually get that one. That's a throwback. If I learn something every day, I do not recall that particular local if you will. I think that's from the 60s, ain't it? When they first got here. Like the 60s and so, yeah. Because it's like part of the throwback.
after the Braves and that whole piece, then they became Milwaukee Brewers. That's the logo. Yeah. Well, you know, the Seattle pilots, they moved that franchise from Seattle to Milwaukee. Yes. The Braves have been gone for about five, six years. That's correct. Yep. Okay. All right. Well, and you really want to grab a hold of the Braves originally started in Boston. Really? They were the Boston Braves and they moved to Milwaukee. And then they moved to Milwaukee. Yep. Carla, welcome to the program.
We're one of them I suppose, but right out. You guys don't like naming songs. They didn't have to be like hip hop related. No, to any songs, they got city names. Welcome to Atlanta, Ludacris. Yeah, welcome to Atlanta where the play is played. Yeah. Yeah. Wait, that's still been playing this big. Outcast baby. Right. You know, we ain't the same time frame right now. Okay.
Alright Wow, so we up to 35. Yeah. Well, I'm sure there's many many. Oh, yeah. We just talk about the ones that we know. We'll just talk about those that we know Miami. That's what I'm going back to. Yeah. Okay. Well, anyway, I am wearing my brewer's cap.
That's all I do to give them call later where my brewer's got Call one to the program Good morning What about San Francisco by the village people San Francisco by the village people That's 36 San Francisco I know YMCA
in the Navy. Well, we know what. Yeah. All right. Right. Frisco, right? Ain't he gonna open up that kid? All right. Got another one? I can't think of another one. Hmm. San Francisco. No, but yeah, like
I don't think there's a song out about Washington. Wait, Florida. No. Miami. Miami is. Yeah, I think that's it. Denver? Well, we did a couple by Detroit. I know we did. Hill Scott Herons. We almost lost Detroit. Yeah.
Um, Denver don't have anything. Oh, thank you. There's another one nights over Egypt. The Jones over each. Uh, Jones. Boom. Boom. Boom. I don't know how. I don't know how I could forget this one. Mississippi boy, Mississippi. God damn Mississippi boy, but Nina Simone. Yeah. Call her up to the program. Good morning, California.
California girl. Okay. Okay. All right. Wait a minute. So what nights over Egypt qualified man? Because Egypt is a country. It's a nation. It's a state nation state. One night in Tunisia. Okay. Okay. I think that's a that's a that's a jazz standard. Yeah. Nice over Egypt.
Didn't then Prince do Gotham City for Batman got them. Yeah
Oh I don't forget about this little disco song. I'm a native New Yorker. Oh Yeah, thank you. Thank you for the boy Boy, I don't think he he's a music officiato. He always tell me Oh, man, you know these songs man. He must have an extensive album collection Man anyway
I told y'all, that game too was so crucial because the Brewers have a difficult time winning in San Diego. They went in the LA and went in LA, beat up on LA only to go down to literally be swept, you know, by San Diego. So there is a real possibility that we're looking at a game five on Friday.
Man, I hope not, man. Well, yeah, but I mean, I'm just saying, first of all, San Diego is a very good team. And the weather too, you have to pay attention to the weather because the weather plays a part with how far the ball goes and how it moves in the air. So when they hit the ball, like for base hits and home runs and everything like that, it's really based on the quality of the air.
Last night. Well, not yeah last night. It's human. The box the ball travels further right human. Yeah, I Just kept thinking like let's say Chicago ends up coming out the socks end up coming out The American League and the Brewers come out of national. Oh, that'll be so dope man But you know, you know, you gonna be you gonna be in weather in Chicago Both whether's now we got a roof here. That's right
And I think of all the teams remaining, Milwaukee's the only one with a roof, right? Right, right. Hey, that's because how many worlds sit between American League and National League? Who won the most? American League? Yankees. Yeah, because the Yankees were so dominant. Yeah, I mean, consistently dominant. Yeah, for years. Which league? I can tell you which league wins the most All-Star games.
American America because it's just like in basketball when you have the West in the East and the West always seems to get the best. Well that that is something that's happened. I think you began to see that movement in the 90s. Yeah. I mean you had like in 70s and 80s you had 80s too because you had you had LA magic. Yeah. You had but you just had LA but now when you look at it, you know, you have Phoenix with Tom Chambers and Kevin Johnson and they were they were.
No, but they was giving people hell. But that was the 90s, when Charles Barkley was there. But I'm saying, but in the 70s and the 80s, it was either the Lakers or Boston. Right. And then even Boston, out East, you had Boston, you had Philly. Yeah, but in the West, you had Denver, you had, you had La Fonso, Ellis, and all of them cats over in Denver. Yeah, well, they. And then you had Seattle, Sean Kemp, and Dele Shrek.
They never won the championship. Yeah, because they couldn't get past. Right. L.A., right? Well, L.A. Phoenix, when they had Charles Barkley and all of them. Houston, Clark. All right, here comes your answer, Clark. The American League, the American League, 68 championships led heavily by the New York Yankees with 27. Yeah.
championships. Well, I didn't realize this in the National League is 53 championships. St. Louis Cardinals have 11 titles. Well, yeah, that goes back to Dizzy Dean. No, no, but even before that. Really? Yeah. Yeah. Because I know that with pool house, man, they was wrecking shot when they had dude. Call it one to the program. Good morning. Hello. Coming about the boys. Yep. Hey, the boys problem is
I think it was like 13. Yeah, like Dodgers though. Yeah, I know the Dodgers until that dude hit that to run home or they had stranded some like 14 folks. Yeah, you know what's you know, what's the other PC? Well, timely hit. I mean, come on. That was a timely hit, right?
But you get those guys in scoring position. You got to move them around. Yeah, right. And that game depends on that. They're not a home run. And it does. It's like, that's what I'm saying. The fifth through the eighth inning yesterday, they constantly had men on base. Yeah, couldn't get them in. And a couple days, Terrain came on with the bases loaded. And Terrain is an excellent ball player, man, but he's having a terrible series. But you know what, you also have to, and they said that,
playoff baseball comes down to pitching and defense. And when you see like the one run that was scored because of an error, you know, and San Diego has good pitching. They have real good pitching. Well, Manny got that hit. So when Manny got that hit to bring the guy in. Right. So that's what I'm saying. Like they feared Manny because they know he's a power hitter. So don't let him hit a home run, but we never thought he hit it, you know, like a single.
But that's what I'm saying. Like, we don't even have players like that in the lineup. All our hitters are contact hitters. Right. But I agree with that. Because we don't have a guy when you step up to the plate, we don't feel him knocking it out. Exactly. And Bowers is about the closest that we got to that. Yeah, but he's a liability on defense, dude. You know, Bowers is having a...
He had a great season, but he's having a kind of tour off season now. You know, he's not really doing nothing. He came up a couple times last night where guys were on base, man. He didn't come through. Exactly. Exactly. And we need that. You know, they talk about we got excellent defense now, but we committed to our hitters. Yeah, man, because we made some errors, though. They make some uncharacteristic of the Brewers, man. Yes, entirely. They play good defense.
Yeah, some of those errors though. I think like Cooper Pratt, he's a good shortstop, but I think the moment is too big for him, man. He's making stupid errors. You can't have that in the shortstop as a key position on anybody's team. He solidifies the defense up the middle and he's making poor mistakes, man. And then we got Joey Ortiz.
in at third base, we kept him in because of his defense, but on the flip side, he's not giving us none on the offensive end. So you play. Correct. Correct. But like you said, his his defense is second to none. Joy Artees is one of the better defensive defensive players in baseball. Right. So he got it. So he got I know I know he got he got a gun. Yeah, but we need him to hit though. Everybody to hit.
right everybody and we need to hit with it you know when it counts again you know bases long and I'm just saying man if I'm not appreciate I love the John Smokes is calling our games man I'm learning so much about pitching suppose was a hell of a pitcher yeah I mean I'm learning a lot about
and now with high def you can actually see the spin on the ball you can see the yeah and how you and how and and then with the umpire cam yeah when the ball is coming in and then it just like drops it's like man those dudes know what they're doing man unbelievable man unbelievable man it's it's like whoa i guess that's why they get paid the money they get paid hey and another thing man being able to bring in the
Being able to be able to challenge a pitch is great. Yeah, man. I like that. That is one of the best invention they've made for baseball, man. I like it. Because umpires are human. They make mistakes. Oh, but the one, was that game too? Yeah, the one that was close. This dude, no, no. This dude had like seven. He had seven overturned calls. Oh, the, oh, the umpire. Yeah, he had seven overturned calls. Yeah.
You know, I don't know if he's going to be done. He's not going to be behind the plate. Oh, man. I like it too, except when Gary Sanchez is catching. Because the ball could be over in the dugout and he's going to challenge it. This dude, man. Just a little outside. You know, like, come on, man. Gary Sanchez. And then, uh, Contreras, he.
But he's about 50 a little over 50%. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, he did challenge some It was close, but no, we could have saved that one because we need I don't know was it was that the boys the dude in the first inning you Yeah, I think that was the boys that we need that was good chairs. He challenged it and they lost the first inning like Yeah, baby Gary Sanchez if he got two left. He's gonna use him
He uses a man, I mean, and then, oh boy, Luther, I guess he got up and thought he was like a vet. And what was that? Gay one was a gay. No, no, no, it was here in the regular season. And he challenged. And man, the manager was looking at him like a Murphy life. You cannot challenge. You know, you have no way to use your talent. Yeah, you just say. Especially now, man, by.
You know, everything being on the line, like your season, it's on the line. So you have to know where. Well, if you're in the ninth inning, you know, I challenge it. Well, yeah, because you can't take them with you. Right. But you don't want to then lose them. And then in the ninth inning, you don't have them. And it's a ball. Right. And now it should have been a strike, but you can't challenge it. I like it too. I think.
I think video assists really like what the NFL is kind of adopting what you have in soccer. And NBA. You know, where they immediately will go down like, uh-uh, uh-uh, overturn it. So coaches don't have to use a challenge. I mean, and that's the whole piece. We were dependent on referees and the human error. So it's like now, I don't know if you notice with major tennis championships, there's no linemen. Yeah.
That's all computer. Straight to the computer. It's all computer. Hey, one more point. Yes, sir. And why does why does most, uh, insist on using Drake May or Dennis, whatever. What's his name? Uh, May. May. They pitched last night. Dustin May. Dustin May. Because I'll tell you why. Because he, he pitched for the, for the Dodgers. And when he pitched for the Dodgers, he had San Diego's number. So they figured.
that he can do the same thing with the Brewers, but last night. But I thought last night was supposed to be a bullpen game anyway. Well, they was trying to avoid from using the bullpen like that because they knew that if it come down to that, you know, they're going to need them. So they needed Dustin May to at least go six or seven. And man, they started going six or seven since he'd been in Milwaukee. Who has gone six or seven in Milwaukee?
Well, when did they take, when did they take Yamamoto out last night? Was he fifth inning, sixth inning? Six inning. Six inning. No, they don't go, I mean, Mizorovsky, man, he goes three innings. Well, that's because his pitch count. No, no. No, no. Yeah, he did three innings in the last game because the pitch count was too high. They expect him to pitch game five.
Well, no, no, no. His pitch count was in the 20s in the top of the first, right? So when they saw that, they knew that it was going to burn out his arm if it gets to the 70 and 80 type pitches. So he only pitched three innings. So they wanted him to go four, five, six at the most because he's he's he's a strong. You know, some you don't see in baseball. You don't see him. You don't see.
look at it. He I beg the differ on that one because they're planning on maybe having to use wins in that fifth game. Yes. That's why he only pitched three innings. That's not a whole week. It's a whole week between game one and game five. Exactly. So, the reason why they pulled him early is because if you look at it, this pitch count was high. They was following them off. He was in the 20s, the high 20s at the top of the first inning. Yeah. He was in the high 20s and your pitch
It's only three batters that you're really supposed to face. Why nowadays in today's baseball, why is pitch count so relevant? Back in the days, pitch count is nothing. Because of Tommy John. No, I can tell you why, because you begin to lose velocity. And then, though, you can... He's a fastball pitcher. And notice, man, as he gets on, he's throwing 105 at the beginning of the game. Every time. But then, it's coming down. Hey, man, you got guys, you got guys like Burlander who just retired.
Because he wasn't a fastball pitcher. Exactly. No, sir. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Listen, he, he, he had a fastball. Hey, I do too, Jack. He had a fastball in his package.
He had a force thing, fastball, but he had more than a force frame. He got the curve ball. He had to sinker. He had to change up so when you can go to all these other different pitches and use those outside of the fastball all of the time, it's not going to burn you out. Yeah, because he pitches between 93 and 94. Exactly. So he has the force team. I think it's either the force team or the two everybody got forcing or not everybody.
Well, you had to do it. You just throw it out. Right, right. Right up. Yo, what is a sweeper? A sweeper is when the ball goes straight and then it goes out. And then it goes out. Yeah. Now, I don't know if you watch, do you watch women's, you watch women's softball? No. Because in women's softball, they use that pitch a lot.
Yeah, they use a sweeper a lot. But in women's softball, the equivalent of that is the rise. Yeah, it'll go up and drop. No, it goes up and it keeps going up. So which one is that that it goes up and it drops real fast? That'd be a breaking ball, wouldn't it? No, no, no, not the breaking ball. It's called something. Yeah, the sweep is what we would call almost like a curve. It comes in and then it drops and sweeps out. It's like a slider.
Yeah, and then you watch people and you can see because when the ball is coming in and then all of a sudden it just but by that time because didn't a tiny they got him on a sweep. Man, he was that ball was so out out the strike zone. All right, man, appreciate you.
Hey, thank you for the time. Hey, man. Thank you, man. That's the thing I like about sports and baseball in particular, man. Yeah, but Verlander had several pitches. He wasn't like he didn't really depend on the fastball. Right. Right. So he he would or you get someone like John Smokes. Right. Who didn't throw for speed. None of him or Maddox. I got a chance to see Craig Maddox pitching person. That dude was an artist. Velocity was amazing. When he first started.
But then at the end man his control how he that that man and here's the thing you throw strikes, right? You throw strikes where you hope that they can't hit your strike color welcome to the program Thank you, thank you
You know, and Billy Jean King had a had a friendship with Elton John. And so, yeah, he wrote that for 1976, but he also wrote that for that. Remember that they started team tennis and the Philadelphia team was Philadelphia Freedom. All right, you're listening to Community Voice. We're going to take a quick break and we'll be right back. Keith Parris. All right, welcome back to Community Voice.
Well, we got a couple of things here, but let me we have the WNBA they're back on tonight Atlanta is in a difficult situation I think it's Alicia gray. I don't know if she broke her finger or what on the shooting Yeah, so she's out tonight. So the Liberty are probably They're probably even up that series don't sleep on the Valkyrie
So what is it best of five best of five and then finals is best of seven so Man, I just read an article this morning though America and racism They was talking about oh man when the fever was in the first round, you know attendance was up in the whole piece and and now Caitlyn Clark is gone and I'm thinking Yeah, but if you out in San Francisco the Valkyrie is selling out
that arena. I don't know why they, I don't know. Carla, welcome to the program. Good morning. I had to call back, because I didn't have time to do anything. Because you all were talking about sports. And I didn't want to get all, you know, religious, religiousized and then like that. But I was wondering, all right, do you watch women's tennis, like over the TV? Yeah. Oh, okay.
Because I can't watch it because, you know, they're making them sounds. And they're getting them balls. And that started with Monica Sellas. Y'all remember back in the day, Monica Sellas? No, he didn't. No, he didn't.
You're watching for the wrong reason, bro. Hey, the sound is bad. Sports poor. Sports poor. We can't be sitting across eating grapes like, yes. No, they be making them sound again like, what's going on?
No, he didn't. No, he didn't. No, no, no. I've never seen someone on TV. Oh, man. I just can't do it. I was like, oh, Lord. I think they both. But yeah, it used to really be bad. At one point, they were going to outlaw because of Monica Sellis. And she would be making these noises. And you'd be going, ooh.
Let me close my eyes. A whole new genre to pour. Women's tennis.
She be kissed me in the womb. Hey. You got your tinners rocking in your hand. Right, like, oh. Yes. Yes. OK, I see why you don't watch it, bro. 15 love. 15 love. What a cigarette afterwards. I tell you. Boom.
45 love. I never thought about it. I always thought it was distracting, but hey, you never know. Yeah, I was going to say, now it's going to be over every time I hear it. Right. You're going to turn the volume down. Well, you know what? Everybody got to finish. So if you see me here now with a tennis ball and a racket, just know.
I'm committing debauchery. Just women's tennis. You're right. Not the news. You're right. You're right. I'm straight. Not the news. Women's tennis. Man, I never thought about it that way. But see, you don't know how people react.
to what they see, right? What they hear. I never thought that it never, you know, now look, I know Serena Williams had a whole lot of brothers started watching tennis, didn't know nothing about tennis. Hey man, they was watching her. Oh my god. Oh man, listen, I would never. She came out in that catsuit. Oh my god. Oh my god. No. I'm gonna tell you who I fell in love with, Angel Reese. When I saw her,
Outside of her hoop and clothes. Yeah, she oh my god. I love her. Oh, I tell you just just I love her complexion man, but The girl that played at Johnson that played the South Carolina She's playing for the fever now. Oh my god, because he started seeing it in women's basketball where they
Started wearing the short shorts. Oh, especially if they had nice legs. Yeah. Yeah. So whatever happened to the chick. I think she told her ACL. She was playing for USC. Did she ever get drafted? No, Cheryl Miller. No, no, no, Juju. Oh, no, she's back in school. She's back in college. Yeah, this would be like what her sophomore year, or junior year. Yeah, Juju Watkins. Yeah, Juju. But the other girl that came out of there, Kiki.
Tiki, do you love me? But there was a squad. Oh, man, this is Texas A&M. They won a NCAA championship. Yeah. Man, they put glam in. It was them and UCLA. Like those women at UCLA, they bring glam to the game, man. Yeah. They bring serious glam to the game. See, but I don't see how they can whom.
with all that hair on them like that, man. Because when I'm playing ball, I got to either have it braided or tied up or something that, you know, keep it from, because it's just a distraction. But women have to figure out, like, dude, you know, you go get a haircut. Yeah. Women have to figure out how do I do this? How do I not sweat it out? Yeah. You know, so you, you, you know, you see a lot of braids. Yeah. You know, but wow. OK. Well, thank you, Christopher. Man. OK.
Somebody said, thanks a lot, Christopher. Call a road to the program. Good morning. Hey, what's up, brothers? What's happening? Hey, you know, Muhammad Ali, daughter, she heard a little fine stuff when she was boxing. She looked good. Did you see her this weekend? No. Yeah, she got an award this weekend. Layla? Really? Yeah, she was fine. She was gorgeous, man. Oh my god. And then you go in the box.
Another thing to them volleyball girls, they be wearing some skin tights too. Yeah, yeah, yeah, man, but Layla Ali Not on you know, we were talking about cuz you know Meach came in and he was talking about when I was talking about the brother pretty Puerto Rican But Layla's daddy used to say I'm so pretty. I'm so pretty now. Now. How come Ali could get away with being I'm so pretty
Because Pretty Ricky is what they really called her. And Layla's mama, because I think Veronica Porsche is her mom. Ooh, the girl could box too. She's a big woman. I wonder who was running the relationship. Is she Mary? Is she Mary?
We'd be like, come home at 9 o'clock. No, you come home at 6 o'clock. Yeah, I wish I would. My wife's not even professional boxing. I can't talk to her like that. Who are you talking to? Yeah, man. Where's Keith? Oh, man, Keith had an unfortunate accident. No, I'd be like, the Egyptians you see today. You will see about that.
I wish I would be talking crazy to that water man. The next thing you know is like not only she run him over once. She ran him over twice. No, she ran him over three times. Hey Clark, what's going to happen is she going to come in here.
at 8.59 with a box and put it right there and then just walk out.
She's going to bring that box and put a suit right next to it. I just fixed the bike like this. Now tell them what you did. Tell them what you did.
I ain't scared. I ain't scared. Tell them what you did. All these thoughts. All these brothers talking about how hard you be talking. Yeah, that's with us. Yeah, she ain't nowhere in the room. You know, like, why are you over here whispering, dog? She might hear me. You know, when you go in, when you go in.
For your Medicare wellness test, they ask you, are you in danger at home? And you whispered, she's in the car. She's in the car. She's in the car. She's in the car. She's in the car. Look at that. Look at that. She's like this. Dude, that's so funny. That reminds me of. Yeah, coming in and looking like Martin when he got in with Tommy Hearns.
Like Cole I thought you said he got on the play. I mean he was coming off the plane. That's one thing though man.
Man, he got hit so hard by Marvin Hagler. I thought, he dead. Marvin Hagler hit him that hard. I was like, he dead. He so left his body and then picked his body up was like, nigga. When Mike Spinks was fighting Larry Holmes.
And Larry Holmes hit Michael Spinks so hard. I mean, I mean, I know he saw his ancestors. He kind of buckled. He buckled. He turned his back and he walked away. That guy was like, Edelman? I had never seen that in a fight. He turned his back and he walked away. He got over in the corner and kind of regrouped itself.
So at the end of the fight, the guy was talking to him. He said, when he hit you and you turned your back and walked away, what were you thinking? He said, I'm thinking I've been here too long. That guy walked away and was like, man, wow. Oh, yeah. I've been here too long. You're like, oh, dude. So yeah, because you see some dudes. Who was it? Michael Moore still did not believe he got knocked out by George Foreman.
knocked him into a hole. I mean, he knocked him in, talked about a whole new world. He, I mean, he was a lucky punch. Uh, night night. He was out for more than 10. Yeah. What they were talking about with Buster Douglas had knocked out Mike Tyson and he was saying it was a quick count. They said you could have counted to a hundred. Tyson wasn't getting up. He wasn't getting up because what happened with that fight.
Tyson came in at the fight and he wasn't even prepared because he thought it was going to be easy. Oh, wrong. And boy, when he got hit, he was like, hold on, time out. This guy hit me hard. We didn't practice that. Well, let's do a little background of what was going on in the Buster Douglas' life. His mama died. Oh, yeah. And his wife left him all around the same time. At the same time. He ain't got nothing to lose.
Yeah. He ain't got nothing to lose, you know. You're right. Because when they say when you're hungry, you run harder. And that cat was hangry. Man, he was. And I tell people, again, if you watch that fight, Buster Douglas fought a textbook fight. He did. When you saw how he was throwing his punches, his combinations, I mean, it was just perfect, you know.
Like, what's that old thing on any given Sunday? You know, any given fight. But man, the way he worked like Tyson and Tyson could have been in shape. He still wasn't going to win that fight. Yeah, because he was going to win it. His mind frame was it was by any means necessary. Yeah. And he said, you up here messing around with Robin Givens. See, that's what you get. Yeah. By any means. Boy, he loved him some Robin Givens. I mean, but she was fine back in the day.
She's still you know, I'm sorry. What's that? What was the Chris Rock movie? DJ always refers to us. See before? No, no. No. When he's running for president. Oh, she was like his secretary or something. His girlfriend. His girlfriend. He had a state. He had a state. And she talked about, because he wasn't done, she tore up all his bills. She didn't pay the card, no. They repossessing the card the whole thing. And she talking strong.
And he swung and he stopped right here. And she said, I wish you would. This was like right here. She said, yeah, I wish you would. Robin Gibbons, you know? Yeah, she's straight. And I'm like Robin Gibbons. So what was her name? Tyra Banks. Tyra Banks was fired back in the day. I think the older she got.
Well, she did what when she had higher education What ice cube and she was they ran track Yeah, yeah, well, she's quite a model Yeah, all right y'all. Well, here's another program about everything and nothing But I do have to say you know for it to be a program about everything
