Welcome to community voice. I'm looking at my placard and So it's black and gold. So we got the Parkman thing going on But it is a little busy Good morning, what's happening Clark Kent? What's you bro? What's you bro? So you got your brewers gear? I don't care if they lose tonight They're coming home either way
You don't want them to come back here, Todd, because then the pressure is going to switch and it's going to be on us. I would rather us to go off. Finish it up, come home, and have that time to rest because we still got the Dodgers and Braves as planned. I think the Braves got the chance to actually beat the Dodgers. If that happened, if the Braves beat the Dodgers, I'm saying this live right now and today on your show, the Brewers are going to win the World Series.
If the Braves beat the Dodgers, I got a hundred dollars. And I don't even bet, but I got a hundred dollars for that, the Brewers. Let's go win the World Series. If Atlanta beat the Dodgers. Because I would love to see the Brewers and the White Sox match up. I would love to see that series.
That would be a 94 series. And it's been a while since we've had white socks fans here. And then just two years removed, they lost 120 games. Two years removed from them. Now I'm being in the playoffs and what a chance to. So I don't, did they win last, did they be Cleveland? I think Cleveland was winning last. I think Chicago.
I think they was up to when our last scene, I think it was like five to three or something that they was up when our last looked at it. But yeah, I would love to see the boys in White Sox. No, the White Sox beat the Guardians. They have two zero. They have two zeros. The raise up to zero on the Yankees. And that's what's crazy now because you have these teams now, the White Sox now going back to Chicago to close it out. They can close it out.
in Chicago and you got Tampa Bay that can close it out in New York. So, yeah, man. Yes, yes, yes. Well, I know Major League Baseball would not want to see a Braves Tampa Bay World Series because so you still get, yeah, you still got the big markets, the Yankees, White Sox, Dodgers. Braves is a pretty big market, too.
But what they really want, they want the Yankees and Dodgers. Oh, yeah. As a baseball fan, I mean, you know, those are the two, well, now the two premier franchises. All right. Let me send my condolences out to the family of Ms. Gail Hicks. She made her transition yesterday. Very difficult situation, so I just want the family to know.
was out of the hospital with him yesterday and certainly bearing our thoughts and our prayers. We pray, we pray for the families, very difficult, especially what is unexpected. That's always Pastor John McVicker and Marcie Patterson's funeral. He said, you know, and I don't know where he found this proverb. He said, but when the sun sets in the middle of the day, and he talks about how normally we expect the sun to
To set in the evening, you know, but not in the middle of the day And that's what happens a lot of times when we deal with people with sudden death You know like you ain't prepared for yeah, and I was even sitting talking to some of the folks I still haven't gotten over Marcy. Yeah, you know, I mean just wasn't prepared. No, I mean I feel you because Like me and Marcy very tight, but we'll see each other shit
back in the day. So we all hung together. Like we was all hanging out that we went out, you know, club together. You know, did a lot of things together. So when I first heard about that and got word of that, I was saddened and I was very shocked because I'm like, man, like Marcy, like, well, it was it was the dude who died during the marathon Sunday. Yeah. And he was, you know, in shape.
And I think about Ronda's done a half marathon, half walk, half run. But you know, you don't, because things can happen. I know that they people, they had an Ironman event up in Madison, someone passed. And these people are usually in pretty good shape. But you know, that's the randomness of life. And I know that a lot of times people, and I really appreciated the honesty.
Pastor McVicker when he says that, you know, he's pushing back on this idea that, you know, God, you know, and you're not feeling that in the moment. But so anyway, they're definitely in our thoughts and prayers. And I was out as we were, we're in the family room, the young man who listens to the program. He said, yeah.
Keith Paris. He comes on after Michelle Bryant. That's right. You got to say he comes on after Michelle Bryant. That's right. You know, there's no other way when they say Michelle or Keith because Keith comes on after Michelle Bryant. So, wow. Hey, you know, somebody asked the brother called in talking about that, that woman who was it?
being an um an imposter school teacher that's kind of like school of rock yeah you know like but he want to know well does she get paid for the three hours she taught yeah like so you went to school for free stay there all day for free yeah does she get a check I mean or does she get a chance to go to the cafeteria and eat lunch like did you get something out of it like now
I do have to say this. When I graduated from high school, I didn't think about that kid. Yeah, I think she did do three hours. I mean, give me freedom or give me death. Give me liberty. At least when I get out and then give my three hours. Yeah, get my check right out. Now, I do have to say this though. When I graduated from high school, that following year, we did go up to some of these schools that we went to Marshall.
Madison, Washington, and Vincent. So we just picked days to go up to the school. But we wouldn't, you know, doing anything to the teachers. We was actually going in there to holler at the girls. And we knew them that they couldn't do none, you know, to us. So, you know, the, well, I mean, our boss, because we was just a year out of school. You were 18. No, we were 17.
Yeah, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
August came around, I turned 17, so we went up to the school. So we was hanging out, we was hanging out at the school, trying to holler at the girls, going to everybody class. And they finally figured it out because what we would do is that we would wait for a name to be called. We would look around the room and see who didn't raise their hand and whoever didn't raise their hand. Yeah, anything else to do? No, man, we were 17 years old. How did that girl? So if.
If Paul didn't show up, I was Paul. Happiness notice that we can't take nothing serious. I was Paul. No, I mean, I mean.
A.K. No matter if he was 18, it was T. Yeah, yeah. M.P.S. don't get mad at me because we can make jokes. I mean, hey, you created, you created the situation. Right, you did it. Right. A.K. was still out of 18, he was still in school. Man, who sent out some 19-year-olds in school, man? Well, you know, statutorily, M.P.S. is required to educate you up to 21. Huh? Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, but no, man, I mean, I would have...
They're all kind of questions, security. You don't check IDs. You don't run them against. They don't send you a list from the substitute agency saying here are the teachers that we send to you. But that's what I was saying. Like, how is it that a random person can walk in and say, I'm here to teach? And well, first of all, that you would have to be dressed some type of waiter for you to even be looked at as a teacher. Not necessarily.
That's the complaint that I'm hearing from former teachers that they're saying that the dress code for teachers today is a little bit more lax than it was when they were, because look man, I can remember all my male teachers had on those short sleeve shirts in a tie.
Oh my God, they sure did. Had them on the jail markets. They had on. You know, every now and then we had some dudes like certainly a parking man who just dressed to kill Mr. Marginal. He was a white dude. He's such a good looking dude, though, man. He had this wavy hair. Those girls love Mr. Marginal. Mr. Donaldson was a great teacher. Mr. Thomas was a great dresser. Mr. Armour was a great tacky. Remember all the male teachers in terms of the ones who just really dressed?
Just to kill yeah, so okay get mad at me. I didn't let her in Like you got you guys because you know, it's hard getting in school. That's that's what I'm saying So how are you able to get past security into a classroom full of students for three hours?
for three periods. How? Uh, he really does know everyone. I said no after the situation yesterday. Call the one to the program. Good morning. Good morning. Keep Mr. Marginal should have been down to the hot about a year after I graduated from apartment. He did what? Mr. Marginal was on the news. Yeah.
Mess with the students? Nope. Selome. She is a big baller. That's really a teacher. Yeah. We had an aide. And I didn't realize that. Okay. Okay. And I'm finest chiba.
He was good-looking, but he was good-looking dude, wasn't he, man? I mean, he had the hair. Those girls love Mr. Marginal, man. I don't even know what's such a Mr. Marginal talk. Sheep? You can get in with his titties. The finest sheep. What is it, botany? I know we had a botany class in Parliament.
It's a whole lot of stories about those teachers in the eights. You know what? And I have to admire high school teachers. I'm gonna talk about male high school teachers because when you look at some of those students, it's hard to believe that they're not adults. You know what I'm saying? It's got full beards and all types of stuff. Yeah, I mean, it's hard to believe that.
Oh, you be going like, ooh, I had a buddy who, somebody said, oh, economics. But he worked for NPS as a para, and he had all these pictures of these young ladies. And I'm like, dude, this could be a problem. Yeah.
You know, I mean I told I was telling I'm telling right out and and Clark but when I was a college recruiter and I would go into these high schools man And these little girls would go crazy right especially when I went to the all-girls school
Because you and they weren't bored in school. So you act like they hadn't seen a man and so I mean my table be lined up with people interested in going to Mount St. Mary's College. Like are you really you like a sophomore, right? Yeah, all right. I didn't know that man. Okay. We.
All right, all right, we'll keep it moving. I appreciate you. Welcome to the program. Good morning, Keith. Good morning. This is Annette. Annette, how are you? I'm fine. I don't want to tell you about something that happened. I'm going to Denver, you know that, right? Mm-hmm. Okay, so I'm in my shorthand class one day, you know, and some black students asking Americans,
came into the class and start beating up a lot of white students. And I had to miss class and I'm like, what is going on? And after the situation subsided, it was because some white students jumped on a black ROTC student because he let the flag touch the ground. And he said, so all of this
jumped off because it was at East High School in Denver. And I always jumped off because of the situation between ROTC White, ROTC members, and ROTC Black. And they just, it went through a whole school. I'm talking about the principal didn't stop. I mean, they couldn't control the situation. The police were called.
crazy and me I was so scared key because I was you know I was like 11th grade I just ran and so you know kids don't get traumatized we don't see that coming so I was just gonna share that with you because you never know what's gonna happen day to day and I understand what Jermaine was saying with his grandchild you know
because they're in class and they're just studying. And then all of a sudden, and the teacher, she was an older woman, you know, and she didn't know what to do, and it was being up on her too. So I just wanted to, you know, tell you that because you never know if a student was gonna happen. That was back in the day, you know. So, yeah. We had a situation where I don't know how they even got in the building.
He's called greasers back in the day. Yeah, that was when that movie came out. No grease us. What was it called? Grease? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So they came up and I don't know how they got into school and you know, because they figured it's a Catholic school and there's a guy. I don't know if he's still alive named Jim Pomolo. His dad used to own a Ford dealership here. Jim was like, I
It's only two people in my life have ever seen who were like granite when they were born. I'm talking about muscles everywhere. Jim was one of those dudes because Jim was the reason why I quit football. You know where we had to do? Yeah, we did nutcrackers. Oh, yeah. He gave me a concussion. I was done. So he was on. He came out of nowhere, man. Wow. And he looked like the way Johnson, man, he was wearing these dudes out. I mean, it was him, nobody else.
It was a gym for Molo. Just he's wearing these dudes out. So yeah, I can. And that was, you know, that was one of the benefits of going to Dominican was we never saw fights. You know, I mean, you didn't see fights in school. Now, when we go down and play St. Joseph's in Kenosha, which Kenosha is a really Italian town. And so they would fight. It seemed like every time we played St. Joseph's, there was a fight. It wasn't the brothers.
Yeah, brothers, we, you know, look, this ain't my thing. But yeah, man, my sophomore year, my junior year, and there's a guy, he got in fights two years in a row. He's in my same class, Larry Pichetti. Larry Pichetti. I remember the name because, you know, and he was a pretty decent ball player, but he got in a fight, I got another name, I'll drop Mike Patucci.
And then Mike Patucci squared off to Italian. And then he, yeah, man, that dude. But that was rare. You know, that was rare. I mean, the worst we would get was when we would play at the old St. John's Cathedral downtown. They would yell rich boys. Rich boys, rich boys. How do you get, how do you get your age? And I know how old you are. How do you look at each other going like, who they talking about, huh?
See how you remember those names? It was, well man, I'm a reporter, I'm a journalist. Okay, because I can't even remember. I haven't seen anything. I went to school with her. No, happiness donuts. No, no, it's not. No, I'm just a respond. I just, but I couldn't remember what I ate yesterday. You too. No, yeah. Uh, yeah. So what's going on with Shorewood not wanting to play Dominican high investment? No.
They were all, they were combined. They were co-op because at first it was it was Shorewood and Mesmer and then I guess Dominican because you know Dominican doesn't have a lot of male students. We didn't have a lot of male students when I was a student there which made until they went to all these different divisions in basketball, sports.
Well, you know that was yeah, we had a reputation of being a deputant school and Again and then in 1974 we won a state championship and then after that Dominican was no longer considered. It was a basketball destination, right? People wanted to come there and play and I just it was funny. I just read
I just read they did the top 20 private high schools in the state. And Dominican is number 11 behind Marquette, which is number 10. So academically, it was always competitive school. We weren't university school. We went Brookfield Academy. And I wasn't surprised that Prairie School down in Racine is the best private school.
But I think it's Prairie School, University School, Brookfield Academy. Those are the top three. But the tuition, the tuition is an indicator of the level of education that you get. So if you drop in 24 grand, that's almost college tuition, depending on where you go. And I understand that, and Brookfield Academy is looking at a, they're getting ready to do a fundraiser to expand.
Can I ask you a question, Keith? I mean, just to pick your mind, do you do you think that college is really the real Jew thieves of America? And I mean, just to be honest, that's a good question. You know, there's this thing with Pete Hesse right now.
And I'm doing I'm roll this into what you're asking me and right now There's a question within the military and there's this thing about Athens and Sparta Sparta if you remember the Spartans, yeah Where all they did they were just military. Yeah Athens were intellectuals is Aristotle. Yeah, it's Plato, right? And so that that whole balance between the intellect
and the physical right that you know the whole so-called warrior ethics so the question that I was asking and it kind of hit me two weeks ago when I was at brainstorming there's having this discussion around education is that a young lady I dated in college went to a college named Dickerson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and it was considered a little ivy very competitive school right very difficult curriculums and their whole model was education for its own sake
where the question becomes, is your education for vocation, i.e. so you can get a job when you get out? Or are you there because you just love learning? And you know, it's just like, take me here. Look, I'll take a class in Baroque art and I'll take this. I mean, so there's always been this question out here about like when, for example, when Trump says,
We should take the money that we give to Harvard for research and give it to community colleges. Now, if if you're at a certain level, you go, oh, yeah, that makes sense. No, it doesn't make sense because. And I've used this term.
intellectually what you have at Harvard is different, I'm talking about the instruction, than you have at a community college. Community colleges are more concerned with like MATC. You get a trade that you can do is different. You become a barber, you become a beautician, a carpenter. That's different, but when you're sitting in other situations where, and for me, learning, I was never accused of being a good student.
That accusation was never leveled at me, right? But I have, and I still do, I had this intellectual curiosity, right? I mean, it was like, ooh, ooh, bubbles, ooh. I just want to know. Yeah, you know, and so that becomes, that becomes, that's still a debate that we have. It's like when we teach kids, are we, you know, they're teaching them to pass the test as opposed to how do I
Apply this right or how do I? It listed out of them this whole intellectual curiosity and in certain neighborhoods So-called being smart is looked down upon Yeah, you know like like if you if you go and get you know the joke we always say about Kennedy Isn't that is she gonna get beat up? It's how badly she's gonna get beat up, right? Cuz Kenny'll let you know I'm smart
You know we put more premiums sometimes on athleticism. We put more premium on being pretty You know and and it was like there was a reason why I hung out because at Parkman doing homeroom You could go to the library. There was two reasons why I hung out at the library and books And girls
Girls and books. Girls and books. Girls with glasses. You wouldn't dare hit a person with glasses. So it's always been, man. And so when people, people, um, uh, my wife calls me a Savant, you know, she goes like, man, you can be all up here and then you can't tie your shoe. You know, it was like.
But I've always, man, I've always had this curiosity. I always, I want to, you know, I want to learn. I go, you go places and you go like, who, we, when we travel now, we always have a geek part of the trip, you know, where you go in and you, you see certain things. We, uh, with Caitlyn, you know, Caitlyn travels a little bit and, uh, I remember she went the, uh, what was it? Young leaders, whatever this group.
when she was in high school, they went out to DC. Their school was selected to be part of this government thing. And they were still building the King Memorial. So I asked her, I said, Caitlin, did you see the King Memorial? She said, I think I did. But now, you know, because that is, and then exposing her daughter, because I'm gonna tell you, education is more than books. Education is exposure. And what we expose our kids to,
And and been able to say that, you know, I am so much more right than my environment. OK, and I would sit right over here, that little bridge between is it 8th and 7th Street on Akerson? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. And they were and I can remember as a kid just going standing on that little bridge looking north. Wow, because it was beyond my neighborhood. Wow. And all I know is I and not a great neighborhood, but I wanted to go beyond my neighborhood.
Yep, that's correct. They didn't have enough students to fill the team call call it walk to the program Good morning. Good morning Hey, did you get chance to hear Michelle show this morning? Who? Michelle Brian Yeah, I heard a little bit And let's see Donald Trump of what he said in Nebraska yesterday. Yes, sir. Yeah, I saw it
And when she said that, I was saying to myself, man, we still call in today. I was just praying we didn't call in. He did call in. Yeah, he called in. I'm like, oh my god, why? But you know what? And this is going to impact on me. But should there be an age limitation?
On the president there is a there is a floor right there's a member. I think you have be 35 and a US citizen natural US citizen But I'm Your your capacity as we get older begins to diminish And that's hard and then when you add into all of the psychological malice ease that this dude has It puts us in a real tough situation
You know where you gonna come out and he makes it sound like when Natalie Hart brought out the thing so he could sign the executive order like I could just sign this and boom as it happens. No, it doesn't. You know, they're talking about building a steel plant in Iowa. I guess that's great. The problem is it's going to take three to four years just to build the plant. What do people deal with last?
right now I was having a conversation yesterday with a brother and I was telling them about you know the little polly stuff I do and how you have to you can and cannot trust polls depending on the polls but I was saying it doesn't matter what the polls say when I have to drive past a gas station and I see the gas is 469 a gallon right or when I go into a grocery store and I can't afford to buy ground beef.
Okay, people people begin now some people are not gonna vote their pocketbook, you know, they they down for the cause their true believers Maybe they're not impacted the same way that most Americans are being impacted and when you have almost 65% of the people believe that this dude is The dude I mean, yeah, but I That's a good question
That's a good question Well, you know You could and I kept thinking about how you could be in an abusive relationship Knowing that that girl ain't no good for you that girl is poison Yes, I mean he comes out and he still thinks he has the magic
And I'm gonna be going like No, no, I saw it I and I have a professional responsibility have to watch this dude so I can Okay Yeah, and you know and I always have to come in here and put out the fires
You heard the promos. They're back. So we get back from break. We'll be inside. Be healthy. Be you. Miss Julie means was Brenda Buchanan. Man, did we miss him, bro? We missed him. Yeah, we missed him. We're gonna take a quick break. We'll be right back.
Hi, welcome back and welcome back. Thank you. Very good to be back. Every Tuesday.
You got the nurses today? Well, we have the nurses today. I'm so glad that y'all are here because I wanted to ask you guys, I know this is going to sound crazy, but I found a little home remedy for knee pain. And I didn't believe me that it worked, but I tried it and it works.
So, you take vapor rub and rub it on the back of your neck. For your knee. For your knee. Okay. And it actually worked. He has never heard. You see what I'm talking about, Tyler? Medical college. I'm trying to tell you. Don't listen to him. He's going to kill you. I did it. I did it the other day. He's going to kill you. My knee's swollen up.
and I took some vapor. Uh huh. Put it on your neck and I put it on the back of my neck and it healed your knee. It's right hand to God. I woke up. The swelling was gone. I'm god can't be left handed because why why were your knees swollen? Um because I have prayer, prayer. He was on his knees too long praying. No, but uh from uh running and working out, you know, I started to swell up on me and
I heard this from somebody down south but I didn't believe it. All right, let's get into it. I tried it. I tried it. I'm serious. This is Ryan and I tried it and it worked. And the swelling was gone. It was a miracle. Don't enable.
Well, what works for one person may not work for another. If it works for you, don't see your primary air position. Someone who's licensed to practice medicine in the state of Wisconsin. We had to do whole remedies because we could afford doctors. We could afford doctors now.
I remember I had my little job I must have been about four maybe. My little job was to go and because in the south my uncle and aunt didn't have indoor plumbing so you know they heat the water and you wash up right that's what you do and then you know Saturday you do the tub right so
It snowed. It was one of the few times I never remember it snowing when I was down in Tennessee. Not a lot of snow, but, and I slept on the stairs. It was only one, two stairs. And the water was calling me. My aunt took some baking soda, put the baking soda on, she heated the needle, and she just took off all that skin that had bubbled up. Okay.
Nothing like exposing all that skin to infection. Yeah. Yeah. Thank you for that. I could have died from an infection. Yeah. Yeah. You know, never pop blisters or anything like that. They're there for a purpose. You let them reabsorb. If they break on your own, that's then you you want to keep them clean and dry. Maybe use some antibiotic. But once that top layer of skin's gone, you're at risk for infection.
You can do though, but you can use silver nitrate right for burn like that You can silver nitrate is a medicine that the burn unit will use because that's what you should get a script for it. No, I did I I had
Round it through some hot grease on me. No We were both in the kitchen and I had on my
and there was some like grease from whether it must have been a roast and in some kind of way.
It felt anyway, put a burn right down the top of my foot. Oh, man. And that that skin on top of you. When I see people with like tattoos on the top of their feet or like here or a neck or a blade. Yeah, that's that's. So I ended up going to the podiatrist and he gave me silver nitrate. And but I was in so much pain. Yeah, I was at the fatherhood summit. I literally had to take my shoe off. I was in that much pain, right? But my boss, I don't know. She wouldn't her purse.
She said, I got something for it. She had some blessed oil. Thank you, Sandy. I think that pay was gone. It was gone. All right, so let's start off with, I do have an appointment, so I'll do the, but normally I get my flu shot here, and so I'll get my flu shot again on the air here to do that, to encourage people to get their flu shot. I'll get my COVID shot, and I don't know whatever when I see my doctor.
But so because, you know, we don't think about flu, but you're reaching the 30,000 people. You're not going to get one. Yeah, they die. Well, you know, I believe Keith and if and if Keith gets the shot and says he's all right, I believe that one time I got sciatica from it. So.
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, because we used a needle that was so long it went through your arm curved around went down and hit that sciatic. That's the needle that they use when I got the got the steroids shot. Oh, yeah. Those are long needles. Yeah, and and they purposely did not let me see that needle. Yeah. Yeah, I will. So, you're all better. I'm a lot better. Okay. I'm a lot better. Yeah, man. I'm I'm that was something.
And I learned learned a lot learned every I love the physical therapists because they tell you so much about how your body works the orthopedic guy Get me in get me out and then what was so crazy about this and I was listening to a guy talking about It took me three weeks to get in the city orthopedic and then it took almost a month to get the MRI
then he sees the MRI. Obviously, the way I'm walking, I mean, or not walking. Oh, I need to get you right away and get these shots. Oh, it's a month and a half later, dude. So, yeah, a lot, a lot better, a lot better. Exercise, the medicine, all those things. But people, man, because, you know, I wasn't on in studio for about, what, two weeks? Oh, it was longer than that, I think. Yeah.
I had fallen out in front of the studio. And he couldn't get up. He'd rather help me than drive him by. And they're looking out at the window looking at me going like he fell. A life alert. You know, I thought he had the life alert. Look it out the window. Never came.
Feel like is anybody coming out here? Well, I was I was I was over here praying because you couldn't pray out there with Actually got trained in ball prevention and and they have a physical therapist that comes we have physical therapists we have vision we have
pharmacy, we have a lot of people come in and talk to our seniors about it. But there is a special way you should get up. You should not let everybody help you up. They can cause more damage than good. Well, and the one thing I did when I first went to physical therapy, you know, they have to do an evaluation. So they tried to see how far I could walk. And they said that, you know, you have to be over this number of steps in order not to be a fall risk. And I was having issues with balance because, you know,
you're compensating for trying to avoid pain. Therefore, you know, it's like when he was talking about a blister, pitchers, when they get a blister on their pitching hand, they don't let them pitch because it throws off everything that you're trying to do. So, you know, I learned about pain avoidance, how the brain goes in and does this memory piece. You don't even have to think about it. Your body's going to do it. Your brain's already figured it out. Trying to avoid the pain. So I feel on both sides, I thought,
At one point, I just left the funeral. I'm out of George Webb, missed the step, and my knee twisted. I'm thinking, oh, on top of this. And then going to my sister's house, same thing. Balance is all off. So it was just learning how to walk again. And people don't think about that with back injuries, right?
Uh, that you really have to learn how to walk cause you've been walking bad. And then when the chiropractor straightened out my pelvis, that put me in more pain because now I'm walking the way out. Yeah. Your, your body is uncomfortable being, being where it should be. So now you're in right alignment, but your body's like that hurts. And then you get frustrated cause as we always say, you want to go back to the day before, right? And then you realize this incremental, you know, um, my God son can remember when,
He had to I was literally crawling up the stairs literally crawling up the stairs and then little by little exercise I'm able to do this. I'm able to do that went from a walker to a cane Unassisted walking I told the story on the air and told it from a sermon to that I just said to my physical therapist and and shout out To Mary. She was so good. She made me work and I said, you know
I just want to get my Denzel Washington walk. He's a white woman. She said, no, you wouldn't walk like Barack Obama. And she had his walk down because therapists know your gate. Yeah, you can walk in and they just see it how you walk and they can go like they know what's not right. Right. So that was that that was an adventure. Second time I've dealt with it. But I'm.
you know, physical therapists are very, very special people. And they can, I had an incident too and I was walking and she said, no, no, no, no, no, heel toe, heel toe, heel toe. And you forget, so whenever I find myself walking funny, I go, heel toe, heel toe. And she talked about her,
her back, Jane, she talked about her, her situation because she dealt with a lot of human beings deal with sciatica, right? Yes. And she was saying that as a therapist, you know, I need to do my exercises, I need to walk. Walking is like one of the best things you can do, you know, like just be able to get it back. Yeah, you use all of those muscles. And she was telling like, you know, when you walk upstairs, you put so much pressure on your back.
You know so stairs are very very and then as we get older and thing Brenda told us this and we have X number of people with certain age group listening to the program We tend to shuffle. Mm-hmm. We don't pick up our feet like we did Well, my grandmother said I never picked up my feet because I'm always messing up a rug But being able to says all these little things that people don't think about as we get older You know, there's adjustments that you have to you have to make
I was talking to someone just yesterday who fell and she's younger. She's in her 30s. And banged herself up pretty good, but her new job requires her wear steel toe boots. And so you have to lift higher. So you got to get used to that and build up those muscles. So where she's walking like she normally does, it's just she needs to work harder. And so she kind of tripped and fell and injured herself. And that's right. Those people who play football.
You know, do you see this little drill where they're running through the ropes? Because they're telling you, pick up your feet. That's what it's all about. Pick up your feet. You know, you got to get used, because we'll get lazy. And so for what I would tell people, certainly people dealing with back situations, get in, get with physical therapy. Yes. Because you'd be surprised. And you know, the whole thing is build up your core. Build up your core. Now, one thing happened. I ended up losing weight.
Because I couldn't get downstairs to snack at 10 30 Julia's got a story about that I'm not sure she remembers but her and I used to go to this trainer And we would work out we'd be holding on to the rails just trying to get out of the building, right? And she lost she was losing a lot of weight mostly because we were working out really hard But I said it was because every time she got her hand close to her mouth her hand was
She couldn't get any food in her mouth. She'd be like this. He said, oh, let us do this. Back off, back off. So I felt like, I felt like I was in prison once that glass mill came up. That was it for the night. Oh man, cause I got downstairs. I wouldn't get back upstairs. But you know what happened though? It really helped me because I changed my eating habits.
I stopped doing sodas and stopped doing you know So because eating at night generally is by habit not necessarily because you're hungry It's a habit and so if you can break that then it's not part of your nighttime routine to have something to eat before bed I just I got I got to say this because I've heard too many people at
seniors in our community complain about this um when they're in the hospital and you have physical therapy come in and occupational therapy and they say I don't know why they're trying to get me an occupation. I'm really tired. Somebody is sitting in this occupational person. I'm not trying to work their preparedness.
And people don't even think about it, you know, it was like with my mom said you saw her cuz you're not moving and that's what the therapist helps you do Well, they're back Yay, Miss Julie means miss Brenda Buchanan be healthy be you We will take a quick break. I don't know when she gonna give me my food shop, but we'll take a quick break
Welcome back to be healthy be you and Keith is on the surgery table right now The two won't yeah, so uh those of you that have YouTube you are able to actually watch Keith Get his shot He's getting his flu shot. He's getting his flu shot. I can't look so I'm gonna look away
You're such a win. Yeah, I am. Look at that. All done. No screaming. Yeah, but you should have saw his eyebrows was like, ouch, ouch. Yeah, that one looked like the commercial. Like the Indian, the American clean commercial, that one looked here. Keith is brave. He's going to be sore in the morning.
That is correct. Somebody got to live until the testimony. I don't have my glasses. You say, what if you miss? What if you miss? That would be a botched flu. So I always do it every year. I always do the flu shot. Encouraging people to get out and get the flu. About 15,000 to 30,000 people die.
a year from flu and uh and flu is not this whole stomach virus thing you're getting no that's a whole different virus that is not flu right so that's not really the flu that's not the flu at all so what is the technical name for that because we've been calling that the flu for years and that's really not it's just uh enter a virus it's a yeah it's just a virus that
causes cramping, diarrhea, that sort of thing. It's not flu. People call it the stomach flu because you see it a lot during the fall and winter, but it's just another virus. But it has absolutely nothing to do with the flu shot.
to the people that don't understand, can you explain what the flu really is? Sure. Flu is a respiratory virus. It really attacks the respiratory system. And it's systemic. So if you have the flu, it's not like a cough, cough, go to bed. You're running a high fever. You are very congestive, might have difficulty breathing, might have aches and pains in your body. People with the flu,
Not getting out of bed and going to work right because they're too sick if you have another disease Compounded on with the flu. It could put you in the hospital Sure Any kind of well, yeah any kind of Yeah, any of them like that your can certainly put you on the hospital. Yep, so we encourage people to
Now, they're doing something different with influenza shot this year, am I correct? Well, they do have a variation that is similar to how the COVID vaccine was developed. Right. Like that, so. But we don't have that. No, that's not what we're using. So what I've actually gotten is. Is the one that we've been normally, that you've gotten before. Would normally be part of the use of the flu is dead. So after your shot, are you normally sore?
Yeah, your arm is gonna be a little sore in the area that you took the shot. Well, you gotta poke that. Mm-hmm. Because I remember back in the day, and this is what, you know, made me really stop getting the shots because I got it shot. You know, I was younger then, but then...
when I woke up that next day, I was so sore, I couldn't move my arm. It was, you know. And there are some shots that are more likely to cause a lot of discomfort in the arm. But nowadays, I mean, I was a little sore last week when I got mine, but certainly nothing compared to even a day of having the flu. But it's, you know, you're penetrating that muscle. So you might get a little bit of soreness from that. But, you know, you just keep moving it.
can use a warm compress, anything like that. But that's very temporary, short lived. So we encourage folks to get your flu shot. You don't, as Brenda was saying, you don't think about how severe can be until you get it. Most people that have had the flu
get the flu shot because they know what real flu feels like. A lot of people have a really bad head cold. They're sick enough that they can't go to work and they're like, I got the flu. That is not the flu. A head cold, all this congestion in the flu, most of your congestion is going to be in your lungs. That's what's being affected. And so just a really bad head cold can take you out for a day or two, but that's not flu. That's just a cold.
Yeah. Oh, and they came up with the vaccine because so many people were dying from the flu. Back in the day, they used to have bring the cart and just bring out the bodies. You were our first big pandemic. 1918, right? And that was millions of people that died. So questions. Well, they had a couple.
Outbreaks I thought something late 60s they had right they did and we've even had a outbreak. Oh was that 90s or we've had a couple different outbreaks, but nothing to the extent of what that that pandemic was in 1918 and I think the are they similar in terms of the type of virus when we talk about
the COVID, that's SARS, right? So is pneumonia, not pneumonia, is influenza part of SARS? No. There's a whole totally difference, right? Okay. So question, so when we had the pandemic and people was passing away from the flu, was it the flu that they was passing away from or was it underlying issues? Well, I mean,
That's a difficult question to answer in general because when you have an underlying issue that's serious, your body may not have the ability to fight off that flu. So yes, you may have died from the flu that your body may not have been able to handle it because of those underlying conditions. So wouldn't it be better to say because of the flu? Right. Right. You know, it was like COVID. A lot of people said, well, no. Or even HIV.
Right. You know, all it's saying is that your body cannot fight the infection. Right. I'm sorry. Yeah, I was just saying for not that flu coming along, it wouldn't have killed that person at that time. Right. Their current health condition. Right. So then adjust that. Is it a cold morbidity? Mm hmm. Look at you. And diabetes was a huge one in COVID for obesity, diabetes. Those were really big ones. And my buddy, he had
He real bad diabetic he got cold it But then he got an infection in his lung But he had nothing left to fight the infection because all of it had been depleted by trying to fight the cold it virus Call it up to the program Yes, good morning, good morning, Mr. T. Ferris are you doing sir?
It's doing all right for a black man living in America. What's happening? No, I know you're just going to say that. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it.
what to know about Blue RSV and COVID-19 vaccines this fall. Well, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health and Services on September 30th, they said in across Wisconsin about 11,000 people were hospitalized because they decided not to get the flu shot or anything like that.
any kind of bad things based on what Donald Trump and the person, what's his name? Kim D. Jr.? John Kim D. Jr.? Robert. Robert, I'm sorry, Robert Kim D. Jr. Son. That's not even a doctor or anything. That said, nobody take no shots. Well, what they were saying is 1,000 people.
This is September 30th now, this year. They said 11,000 people in the state of Wisconsin got sick by not taking the shots. And they said, because COVID-19 or the flu shot sometimes, especially COVID-19, it changed. And so what they decided to do, to do research and stuff like that,
to try to keep up with the changes and stuff, the blue shots and stuff like that. Like you just got today, Mr. Keith Perr. Because I'd be getting it at the B.A. If I'm at the B.A., I'm gonna just say we're better than so, excuse me for saying that. But I guess, make a long story short, we need to get our shots. You have to be, you need to get our shots, the RSV and
Ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen gentlemen
before October 31st? Well, October, whenever. But go and get your shots to make sure you be safe about that, because it does change. And when they try to keep up with it, even though they took away funding from research and stuff like that, but they're still trying to keep up with the shots when it comes to COVID-19 or flu shots. People, go get your shots, because I have a lot of people personally.
Keith you said you're awesome people Okay, that's for Leo y'all and Jermaine. Did you get your shot yet? No, I actually saw it on TV man
You know, you know, you know, you know, you being honest, man, because, uh, cause I, I share, I had experiences with, uh,
You can do some parts of the body and stuff and take care of that. So if you're a man, you ain't lying. I'm selling it. You ain't lying because hey, it works. It works. It works. Not for everybody, not for everybody, but it does work. But my point is when it comes to getting your COVID-19 shot because it does change, a blue shot, it does change depending on your age and if you poke it and stuff like that, but the ladies in the house.
that's professionalism more about this than i do could you please um a span on what i'm trying to say to go get you over shops 19 shops blue shops because it does change and they're trying to best to keep up when it does change you you're absolutely correct i appreciate you jt thank you and
Bernadette and I saw more flu shots. We gave out more flu shots. This COVID. Yes. Oh my gosh. People were lined up. We never had that. Oh yeah. During COVID, people got their flu shots. But now they're not as readily coming as they were then. And this year, like he said, we're with both COVID and the flu. And this is usually the case with the flu also. Every once in a while, they don't tweak it. But it is a different component in the virus. I mean, in the vaccine each year to fight
the predominant virus that's in circulation. So, like last year's flu shot, if this is a new variant, it's not necessarily protective of that. The COVID-19 vaccine this year is a totally different variation. As long as people continue to get COVID, it's going to change. Any time it's able to replicate, it's able to make itself stronger or different to avoid
the vaccination and you know, yeah, so I would say this year that is the case and I just want to add COVID has been very active in this community already this year and our friend group One of our friends his wife and him both got COVID this was about a month ago and she had some other medical issues, but she didn't she died And so it is very active. It's in our
water. I mean, you know, the out stream, they've been testing that. And I know personally, um, from people at the hospital, there's been a lot of people out on and off already in the last month with COVID. So is it is it possible that we all could be walking around with COVID and not know it because it's not, um,
You know affecting us like sure, but that doesn't mean you're not still shedding the virus and put other people in us Sometimes we get exposed to things coals and that and we don't get sick for whatever our reason our body recognize it's able to handle it But sometimes it doesn't
you know um but you even if you're not sick that doesn't mean you can't pass it on to somebody else. I think that that's the other thing that even if I take the shot I still can get flu. Right. I just won't have a severe case of it. Correct. Now I know when that they were spending it one time with the COVID and things like that because I've I heard
When it first came out, and once you take this out, you won't be able to get COVID again. And there was that myth. That's that whole myth that was out today. Yes, because that was never from a health perspective or an infectious disease perspective. There is no such thing. There is no vaccine that's 100% none. The goal is to get as many people vaccinated as possible so that
We don't get it. There's nobody to get it from and that's why we're seeing all these this uptick and uptick in measles cases because there's so many people even in western wisconsin we're up to like what 300 cases something like that because people are not getting it measles was not eradicated
Yes, it's among the Amish because not vaccinated. And so we are not. We didn't have we had a rare occasion to have that in this country because we've all been vaccinated since we were kids. So we don't have measles. But now that you have all these unvaccinated people, people are getting that. And if you're older,
Immunocompromised to have cancer even if you've had the vaccine you're old you could still get it. It's not a hundred percent. You know it was when we had the crypto outbreak and it was the people and then we were talking about people who were HIV and others who were actually dying because of the dehydration that accompanied that and
And dehydration can have a real effect. Yeah on you medically, right? Oh, yeah, lots of issues caused by D Our body is mostly water. Our brain is mostly water Call a welcome to the program Good morning Hello. Good morning, Chief. Hey, George. Good morning, Chief. Hey, I was gonna Say how important it is
It is to have your flu shot. And I was just calling Jermaine. Come on, man. Jermaine, Jermaine, man up. I did. I just watched Keith take a needle in his arm and it was, uh, I mean, listen, man, you get it for yourself. I got mine already. Good. Can I, can I get it for myself?
Right. That's what I was going to say. You guys travel in spaces with a lot of people, which means you're exposed. I want a zoo zoo. No, but what I'm saying, you're exposed because you're traveling in those spaces. And you put other people at risk. And I just want to and I just want to thank Julia. I think it's Julia. Yeah. She gave me and bring the art shop last year at Casper's Finschurch at a pension last year. Yes. I think that was. Yep. It was.
You don't want to get the flu, brother. I'm going to tell you something. It's going to be one of the worst experiences you ever going to have in your life if you get the flu. That's true. Have you had the flu before? Yes. And ever since Jermaine, I'm going to tell you something. I thought I was dying. So Jermaine, you don't want to go through that. Yeah. Listen here, man.
People were hypertension. They had me on a low dose of five. Now I'm on a chance. And that's about developing a car. Right now I'm about to walk into the doctor's office and they put me on this other medicine to go along with it. And I'm about to walk into the doctor's office right now because they're going to do some type of scan or something on my heart.
because they can't figure out why they can't get my blood pressure to go down. That's very serious, but you're doing the right thing by walking into the office with prayer and continue. Was the medication listenable? Why do you think it's making me cough? And Michelle talked about that before too.
Yeah, some of those, that particular class of drugs can cause you to get like a little bit of a buildup in your lungs that causes you to cough. It doesn't happen with everybody, but it does with some people. Usually after they take you off of it within a couple of weeks, that cough starts to go away. But it takes a little bit. But that's not an uncommon side effect of Lycinoprol.
And there are lots of low pressure medications. So if that one, that's the first line of drug they usually go with, diuretic, then lecinopril. And if that doesn't work for you, they have another one to take care of that. All right, Jermaine, take your shot, brother. No. Yeah, and I'm going to say, again, for those of us who are traveling, I have become more paranoid.
about being in spaces with a lot of people now since COVID. I'm just more mindful that there are all kinds of infections in those environments. And so if you're out, that's why they require nurses and doctors and other people who are dealing with folks to get shots because you're exposed to it and you don't think about it. And look, that little prick.
Didn't it didn't even I mean I didn't think basically felt I was but when I was thinking about Julie is my mom now is on insulin shots and My mama wanted to live
My mama would have lived so she has the monitor and everything. She's half a sugar over there. Never have a problem when you say, mom, you need to get a shot, right? But she doesn't like me giving shots because she said, your hands are so cold. Yeah. Because I go wash my hands and she said, your hands are so cold. But no, I think you do. Someone just asked in the chat, do we need the RSV?
RSV shot, I would think the answer. That would be something you would discuss with your doctor. Shingles. Usually the RSV is in younger people or older people with certain medical conditions. So it's kind of a case by case basis. So that would be one you would talk to your doctor about because we never had issues with RSV in older adults until a few years ago. And that's why the vaccine was developed. But there's certain criteria for that. So let's do this. Let's take a quick break.
that we gotta blow up the phone lines, which is good. But yeah, let's have this conversation because I think it's important and certainly as much as we understand the science around it and how that science can be beneficial to your health. You're listening to Be Healthy Be You, Ms. Julia Means, Ms. Brenda Buchanan. We're gonna take a quick break. We'll be right back. Yeah. All right, welcome back. We have Caller. Caller, welcome to the program. Good morning. Good morning.
Okay, thanks for confirming that walking is the best exercise. I wrote that down and I will be doing more of it. I was just in a mirror doing some other old school exercises and wonder if it was really having an impact. So to hear you all say walking is the best. Thank you. My question for the nurses about supplements. There's so many commercials on TV now about this, this is called Force Factor.
And I went out and got this big old jar of total beets. They had one for total liver and something else. Then you got your bottle of collagen, vitamin C, magnesium, vitamin E, all these different bottles in your linen closet. How important are supplements on a regular basis? And then with all the green grass that's still in the community, is it necessary to take the flu shot now?
This is the time to get the flu shot so that is we get close I mean we already have flu circulating in Milwaukee So this is the time to get it and getting the flu shot now gives you the benefit throughout the winter into the early spring So this is the ideal time to get your flu shot the later you wait into the season The more likely are you to be exposed and get the flu. So that's the one thing everybody knows I have a thing with supplements so
If you need a particular supplement, then you should take it. But there's a lot of stuff out there. The marketing is to get us to buy things. It doesn't mean that our body really needs that. So if you have concerns about depletions of magnesium or vitamin D, a lot of us need vitamin D. I always tell people, talk to your doctor. Make sure they can do tests. Do you need vitamin B? Do you need vitamin D? Do you need these extra things?
These fat soluble vitamins like a vitamin D, B, A, those things kind of sit in your fat cells. And over time, you can get too many and they can cause damage to your body. Your liver has to filter those. You can have all kinds of issues if you're overdoing it. Now, if you need it, that's a whole different thing. And then with these water soluble vitamins, you just PM out at the end of the day.
You've got expensive urine. Yes, you just have very expensive urine because you're peeing them out every day.
Yeah, I was gonna say most of these supplements if we're eating a Fairly healthy balanced meal most of us don't need those there are people with health conditions that do need them because maybe they don't absorb things right But overall I tell people to keep from providing creating more harm to yourself because people get hospitalized for overdoing it on those their liver starts to There can be things don't take anything if you don't need it
I guess that's kind of how I feel. And your doctor knows your health history. I always talk to them. They may say, yeah, I don't think it would hurt. That's a good idea for you to take that. Or they may say, well, let's test for that to see if you have a deficiency. And if you don't, you may not need it. No, I don't know if I need it or not. Again, I'm just, it's a fad out there. You look on social media and you got black girl vitamins. You look on TV after watching sports. You got all these different infomercials, ludicrous.
It's the important one a day vitamins, you know, so I just ran out and got some food. You know, one a day vitamins are not going to hurt anybody for the most part. We can all, you know, use just a one a day vitamin that gives us a little extra boost where we might have a little bit of a deficiency. But all those other things, of course, they're going to get these stars to market these because then you're going to want to buy it.
And when I talk to my doctor, he's just saying, no, you don't need to just be a Mediterranean diet.
And then you talk to my manager, she's like, well, I'm on a carnivore diet. I put butter in my coffee and I keep a piece of meat. I would never recommend that for anybody. I would not recommend that for anybody. The carnivore or the Mediterranean? The carnivore Mediterranean diet is probably the best diet out there. It focuses in for a diabetic anybody. It focuses on whole grains, fruits, veggies, lean, healthy meats like fish, chicken, you know, beans.
It's an incredibly great diet. So I hate to label it as a diet. It's just a it's just a good eating plan is what it is You get your nutrients through that You know more walking talk to my doctor about any deficiency test. Otherwise the one of those great. Yeah, and then Mediterranean diet. How much do I owe you guys? Let's see. We'll send you the
That be on the morning America. He is so nice. He said, shoe the flu before boo. So you should get your flu shot before Halloween because it takes two weeks for your body to build up immune, you know, to build it up and to be able to fight the flu. So the flu season starts. And so you want to get you want to shoe the flu before boo. So let me ask you this. So what do you say to those people?
that say, hey, I've been doing swell all of this time. I haven't caught the flu, measles or any other other stuff. I don't need this stuff or you get it. Or I don't need you to put it in me. If I'm already fighting it off, I don't need to get what I'm trying to avoid. So what do you say to those people? Well, one, you can't fight off something. Your body's never been exposed to it because it has no knowledge of it. No, no, antibodies to fight it off.
That's one thing. But if you haven't had the flu, I say you're blessed and fortunate. That doesn't mean you won't ever have it. Yeah, we buy auto insurance for accidents. And people say, I ain't been in an accident until you end one, right? And again, and I'll say this for the people who travel in spaces with a lot of different people, you need to just need to be mindful. If COVID didn't make me aware of anything, it made me aware.
That's why that whole referendum question is such a dangerous question because the reality is for black folks. Let's just talk about black folks. It was in religious institutions that COVID killed a whole lot of people before they knew, right? I mean, they're walking around just thinking, I'm sick. And it just so I think.
We lost a lot of good people. Right, you know, and so I know people get mad at me about your beliefs and your feelings, but I'm gonna tell you something. Facts sometimes are stronger than your, I'm just talking about the impact of facts. And then the impact, and you know, Julia was talking to me off here about something. There is, and I paraphrase this scripture, what you don't know will kill you. Ignorance, you can get up and get in your beliefs and ignorance. Now, if you're ready to go home and see Jesus,
ain't no problem. Buy and buy. I'm going home. Might not be an easy transition. Yeah, but a whole lot of us ain't really that excited about going to see Jesus. You know, even doing COVID, you had people, and it's interesting. Again, we're talking about outbreaks in rural areas, right? Where you had people who were in the hospital saying, can I get the shot now? Yeah. And people going like, it's too late. It's okay.
Medicine does not negate God. Let me say it one more time. Medicine does not negate God. Can I say this though? This intelligence. But she did. There you go. I ain't even gonna go there. I told you, that's a concussion. Yeah, that's a concussion from football. But I think the pushback, and this is what I was hearing. Now, I couldn't explain it, so I'm gonna say it, and then maybe you guys can explain it to people that's listening.
It was said that if you got the shot, you won't get COVID. But it was proven that that wasn't true because people that got the shot, some people died after they got the shot. So, no, no, I get it. No, no, no, no. It never said you wouldn't get COVID. No, no, no, no. No, it wasn't said. No, it wasn't said by, by, by, by, by medical professionals. It was people on the streets who were saying that.
And I just said it, and Julia, thank me for doing this little disclaimer. You will still, you still can get the flu. You just will not necessarily die from the flu or have a severe case of the flu. After the vaccination, when I got COVID, I didn't even know I had COVID until I got tested. I know, but for some of those people that got the shot, because you got people that are pushing back, because they don't know, because there's so much misinformation,
that's out here. So by you guys being in the field, can you tell people that just because you, I mean, because, well, okay, let me reframe this. People are saying that even if I get the shot, I can still die from COVID. So why would I get the shot? Well, there's two things. And then I'll let Julia go to one, we already said no vaccine is 100%. That that's just
case, no vaccine. The other we talked about, they change the COVID that the COVID that's going around now is not the COVID that was going around when we forgot. Yes, it has mutated. It has changed in order to survive. Just like we change to survive, insects change to survive. It has learned how to survive. So it changes. It's a whole different vaccine that we have now than we did then.
So, it changes. So, how do you explain that to the average person? Let me tell you how I explain it. Okay. How Julie's got that faith. How you explain it. Let me tell you how I explain it. Explain it, Julie. Explain it, Julie. Got some explaining to do. Before the vaccine, we were locked down.
People were dying like flies. We didn't have enough burial places to poll people that way. We got the vaccine. People got vaccinated. The cities opened up. People stopped dying. So how can you not believe in the vaccine? And then Trump, who was talking crazy, when he got COVID and looked like he was going to die, and he was one of the people who got some of the experimental stuff. Yes, us, we could not get. We could not get. You know, so people, you.
You know what? And after a while, I'll just leave you up to your reprobated mind. And nothing we can do or say is going to move you off your square. So just go on. Before the vaccine, after the vaccine. Right on the scene with the end going to be her. You ain't going to be running. We're going to roll you in. We're going to see what the end going to call a welcome to the program. Good morning. Good morning.
Yeah, you were talking about supplements and I was wondering what your panel thought about CMOS, some of the bidders they have, Soursop bidders, CMOS bidders. You know, whatever you take, you need to talk to your primary care physician because some of these supplements and different things that people are taking do not
go well with the medicine that you're taking. I know there are some women who had breast cancer and they were taking some supplement and they didn't tell their doctor and they bled severely after they went home from the surgery. So there are some things that contraindicate or mess up the medication that you are taking for your
the diseases that you already do have. So please, please talk to your doctor, talk to your pharmacist, and let them come into an agreement of what is good for you because everybody is dealing with different things. But would they have any information behind the fact that CMOS and these bidders haven't been FDA approved?
That's a problem right there. Yeah, anything that's FDA approved, you don't know how much you're getting and what you're getting. No matter what they put on the label, there's no way to prove or disprove what's in that.
But the other thing, even though they may not know about each and every one of them, they do know what the components are of these different supplements. And they know whether or not, especially the pharmacists, they have this vast database that can tell you, you're on this medication, this is how that might interact with the particular medication you're on. And you get frustrated because we have listened or we want to hear what we want to hear.
I have talked to women who said, I was taking my birth control pill and I still got pregnant. And then you asked them, did you take an antibiotic? And didn't the doctor say to you when they ask you if you need to understand this is going to counter, as you just said, is going to counteract what you're taking? You know, it's like, I don't think with the blood pressure medication, I can do like grapefruit.
Right. There's certain things. Right. Right. Right. Right. That I can't. With blood thinners, there are certain things that you just can't do. Right. But you gotta hear, you gotta hear the science and, and, and Julie and I was talking off air. When you need a miracle, that means that the science has not worked. But in most cases, the science works. And if we just look up stuff. You can have faith and follow your doctor's orders at the same time. Yeah.
Alright, let me do this. Shout out to George. Blessings to him. Alright, let me talk about the thing you all doing with community outreach and the mobile.
Yeah, so Right now we're working with outreach community health center. So They have a mobile unit a mobile bus basically a clinic on wheels and Myself and Nancy who's been on this show before We are in that bus two days a week providing health care in certain communities right now on Tuesdays. We're at Calvary Baptist Church, which is chambers and
And then that's on Tuesdays from 10 to 4. And on Thursdays, we're at Ebenezer, which is 3132 North MLK Drive. So we provide basic services, primary care, any kind of basic urgent care needs you may have.
And we would just like for you to come on over and see us. But we are there on those two days. And we're there to hopefully make it a little bit easier for people who don't have transportation or those urgent needs that pop up. And maybe you can't get a doctor's appointment right away. That would be a place that you could come and see us. And we are also doing flu shots. I'm going to be at Christ the King this Saturday.
actually this Wednesday I'll be at St. Joe's between 10 and 2 doing flu shots and then Saturday I'll be at Christ the King and then on Sunday I'll be at New Covenant and then I'll go to Community Baptist but there are gonna be they're gonna be at St. Francis doing flu shots and Ascension is trying to reach you where you are trying to
have people get their vaccinations and be able to go in and get treated wherever you are so that we're coming to your community. Because it may be hard to get to the doctor's office or to Walgreens to get a flu shot. And we want to make that easier for you. Carla, welcome to the program. Good morning. Good morning. This is the Reverend Dr. Andrew Wolfe.
I want to help Reverend Dr. Parish out a little bit. He had these extra religious people talking about they weren't on the Lord. And I am a vicar and so is this staff lady and Reverend Dr. Parish. God works through people. Who sent the doctors and the scientists? And y'all have a good one.
Thank you. Thank you. Yeah, he had a doctor. Jesus had a doctor with him. He had Dr. Luke, didn't he? Yeah. So, you know, he believed in doctors. I don't know where we got and maybe it has everything to do with
coming out of enslavement and the systemic things that happened in America, a lack of access. Most Americans had a lack of access to adequate health care.
Right? You know, health care was really for the rich, not necessarily people. And so as we have expanded this level of socialism where, you know, we started in 1935, we did Medicare, which would be there for the elderly, like a health insurance for the elderly. We fast forward to 65 when we did Medicaid 2009 when we did the Affordable Care Act.
What these things expanded people's access to health care You know, there's some people, you know, you just extremely lucky if you walk around and never had to see a doctor Right, but most of us are dealing with things and sometimes it's little things that then can aggregate into something really big right and be able to go in so I I agree with this this idea Because some some things and I hate to put it this way for some people basically
Their their batch of honor was their faith and many people feel like going to doctors is
saying they don't have faith and That is that certainly not the case, but that's how they feel that if oh if I'm just not I'm not trusting God then to heal me or help me I'm going to these doctors and so they feel like they're you know treating God wrongly by doing that and so To get people to understand they go together. You know God gave us all this knowledge these skills to be able to help people if they don't
They're not they don't negate each other and I thought it was I'm glad because we've talked about this for six years viruses are like human beings we are We're trying to survive So when we talk because we we talked about that first year COVID how it was mutating, right? It was changing because it was because it was responding to the treatment and that's what happens. That's why
the flu shot that I got last year will not be effective this year because the flu, like every other, what do you call, creature, is... Organism. Right, organism is trying to survive. You know, and so that, so people need to understand that I know we, religion in some ways have hurt us. You know, when they were dealing with the scopes trial, right?
And that whole thing, that's the famous monkey trial that happened down in Tennessee. This whole thing about evolution and whether or not we should be teaching evolution. And they said, no, you should teach the Bible. The Bible, and I'll say it, it is not a book of science. I'll say it one more time. It was not designed to be a book of science. And so when we need to understand that, and I know there's a listener, she from time to time will reach out to me.
as religion has its own lane, right? Religion is important in a holistic approach because they talk about people who have some form of religious faith, how it's beneficial in their healing. Yes. Study is overwhelming. Right. It's benefits, but that's not necessarily what's causing the healing as much as it is the medicine, the therapy, all those different things. And so you're right. It doesn't make. And then for black people, a lot of times it's all we have.
That's for poor whites. That's all we had our religion and we could we could walk around and people died but when when COVID hit churches and Again people didn't even know and it hit like boom or when we first started when people fell the church was a safe place to go Even with all the other restrictions. They felt church was safe to go to yeah, well, and I think it's interesting that there's some people who
Now when they do what they have, they do communion. They bake a loaf of bread. You tear off the bread. You dip it. So there's possibility of cross contamination and we can spread disease, right? So we understand these things, but I religions created by man and it's created for our good.
That doesn't mean that it doesn't need to calibrate. It doesn't need to be modified in terms of being able to, you know, people talk about a first century message with 21st century methods, right? That and then our understanding is greater. You know, we've been exposed to more. So now, you know, I had people and I'm sorry on this little rant, but I had people who I know when I came back from Bible College.
a young lady would get up and she said, oh, he went to the cemetery. I guess this will be seminary. She was playing or was she real? Because there was this whole thing about education and either the lack of access to it. We were having a conversation before you guys came on, learning for its own sake. So is it sparta or is it Athens?
You know, is it vocational or is it thing? I just love learning, you know, so Oh man, so I wish we could do this more because it's just it is great in engender so much conversation you all have done so so much good in terms of being able to get it out in such a way that people understand it and Whoever came up this idea to have it. What a great idea. I wasn't on board
Yeah, like what I'm gonna who's gonna be here and They're gonna be here all the time Julia because Julia had come on my mom's program and and my mom always talked about Julia because It was around the time you were dealing with your first bout of breast cancer and And it was pretty bad as I remember it and my mother was just talking about
how much she appreciated she coming on the information. And so even if I modeled my program, I modeled it after my mother, who said it's important to get the information out. Yeah. You know, that that is. She was way before her time. Yeah, she really to the point where, and it was funny because even then, Pastor Ken Love, he kind of saw it, you know, because there were some people who didn't have formal education, very bright people and understood.
and this whole thing and then that whole heart for the community. But part of our rising folks is knowledge. There's a reason why they didn't want enslaved people to learn how to read because knowledge is power. So always good. Clark Kent, let me thank you, sir. Thank you. Who's playing tonight? San Diego.
That last game was, wow. Was that something, man? I mean, it's when you, and it sounds like a lot of people were watching. Oh yeah. It sounds like a lot of people were watching. And I always love watching the Brewers games on TV because nobody ever sits down. It's like those fans are not going to sit down. Especially like when you get towards like the 7th inning, 7th, 8th, and 9th they only beat.
But you know what? I didn't realize how nerve-wracking it was. It really was. What, to watch the game? Yeah, it really was. Yeah, Sunday's game was. Man, I was just like, Saturday night. Yeah, that. You know, that one was like, you just. Yeah, that one too. Yeah, so go Sunday. Sunday. Sunday. We was on stage, and I actually stopped the show. I stopped the show right when he actually hit it.
And he had brought the runs in that we was playing and I stopped the show. Yeah, that was just crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy
So now, you know, the pressure is not there. Right. And there's a hitter's part because by it being warm, it's going to carry the ball carries. Yeah, right now we're going to heat wave out there. Yeah, it's hot. It's going to be 96 again. So it's going to be home run galore tonight. Yeah, it'll be exciting. And then I just have to add last week that Badger game.
Oh, yeah. That was crazy. You know, and I was like, what happened? And I'm part of the Grateful Red. Yeah. And they're winning because I started off the season. I was wearing them out, right? Yeah. I mean, I was, because I was telling Frankie, I went down to Northwestern when they played Northwestern. Crazy thing was half the stand was red. And it was, it was their homecoming. Yeah. Well, Northwestern built a new stadium. It was all purple. Yeah. It was all purple against Penn State.
Well, thank you for that. Julia. Thank you. Oh, I'm sorry. Apostle. Get your flu shot. No. If you change your mind, just let us know. We'll bring it. Listen.
Don't worry. We'll find you. Thank you to get more willing. Creek. Don't rise. Hope to talk to everybody tomorrow. As always, go for this place. Peace.
