Wisconsin’s Political Crossroads: A Deep Dive into Elections and Community Challenges

Here at the studio is we broadcast live from outreach community health centers there. Their festival was like the resource fair. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So we got a chance to do that Saturday. It was some of the things like, I don't know why you think you can still second from first when you're going against a left-handed pitcher. That one was, and the guy who started the game was from Wisconsin. He's from Tomah. Yeah. Yeah. He pitched really well. And I thought about you right out. I'm telling you, when Ms. Rosely gets up a hit, it's a home run. Yeah.

He gave us two yesterday. Yeah, because he throws so hard and fast. And when he hit the bat, it's gone. Oh, yeah. Because, you know, now, you know, when he's like 103, 104, there ain't nothing to do. But man, he threw one that was 99 right over the middle. And dude was just, bye. Out of there. Bye. Bye. Yeah, but he gives up. And that's always been the thing, man, with hard throwers that they give up a lot of home runs. And his own runs yesterday were

was two home runs. So he gave up three runs total, right? Yeah. Yeah. He had a no decision yesterday. And nobody was talking about he had a no decision. But yeah, it came down to and it gets tough for the Brewers because they're Padres, three games and then four games with the Dodgers. So I ain't quite off the bandwagon yet. to be governing the state for obvious reasons, it's sad because that won't change my vote, but it may change some. Let's see, George said, what are we doing? This may be the most important vote for Wisconsin and the United States ever, every year, every year, whatever I bring in, whatever I bring in, whenever national people are brought in, you know, it's always says, this is the most existential election of all time they all do.

They all matter. Those off-year school board elections matter. Those judgeships matter. So every election matters. And though we might say it might not be as important. And here's my observation from 35,000 feet. I think that regardless of who the Democratic nominee will be, this is going to be a turnout election, right?

Again regardless of who the dem nominee is if those folks who are apt to vote Democrat will show up to vote She still or he they still have a good chance of winning And I think that that's what it is and with all the background noise that's going on because I asked this question a month ago I was wondering where the Dems in terms of running ads against Tom Tiffany

And there was a group out supporting Tom Tiffany. They went after Francesca Hahn. Man, they went after her. And I think so. I know where people are at this point. You know, it is when you put these labels on politicians and where they are, because you're going to find out in my mind anyway, that there's probably not a lot of difference between David Crowley,

or Francesca Hahn in terms of the important issues, right? And I always think that, you know, primaries, you know, you play, you play to the base and then you hope.

through hard work and other things that you'll be able to expand in the general election where you can appeal. Now Wisconsin's a unique state because Wisconsin does not have a lot of independent voters. Wisconsin is a purple state that means it's equally divided and that's a little sliver of independent voters. So what you hope is that you're able to like do a little bit of damage in the wild, which is

Was it Washington, Ozaki, and Walkershaw County, where you can get, so I'll do my trips as we get more and more into going towards the general. Why just go out to see what the lawn signs look like? Because the lawn signs, it's, you know, it's an anecdotal indicator of what level support is. I was telling folks on Friday when I drove down to Racine, I did see a Will Martin sign next to a Tom Tiffany sign in Racine County, not in the city of Racine, in Racine County.

So we'll see. You know, Trump is definitely on the ballot, whether his name appears or not. The economy is on the ballot.

And so with people and think what the Republicans are trying to do is turn this thing into like there's a communist takeover, which means that that will divert attention away from the damage that Republicans have done in terms of the economic conditions and, you know, the tariffs, the big, beautiful bill, all these things. And so when people are talking about, for example, where the Democratic Socialists would say that, you know, Medicare for all, you know, everyone would have access to public health care.

Um, there are people who pushed back on that. Well, who's pushing back on that? And what the big beautiful bill did and what they did not do, they did not extend the subsidies for people who were trying to get health insurance. So they're going to do about 28 million people are going to lose access to health insurance. So people are trying to get around because it's amazing.

certain parties will have you talk about emotional issues and not talk about real issues. And right now the real issue is the cost of gas, the cost of food, the cost of living. A job report just came out on Friday. The Academy lost 29,000 jobs and they said that even though the unemployment rate ticked down to tick down because people stopped looking for work.

And so, you know Donald Trump will get on television and say we have the hottest economy going anywhere No, we don't but I tell you who is making money oil companies oil companies are making money hand over fist, right? So when people and again, that's that becomes a little bit of a two-edged sword because if you have investments, you know oil company utilities are usually where a lot of these pension funds are invested their money so

But I do know that Tom Tiffany is interested in saving the family's farm because of the simple fact. How many people you don't own a farm meet? Well, we ain't talking about the farm, brother. I'm talking about the house. I'm using him. I'm just because where he come from. I'm talking about us down here in Milwaukee, brother. The house is the building that you own a commercial with.

Some people may have my own 10 hours. Do you understand what the increase or when I think then I think that what should happen is that a that the Legislature should come up with a more equitable school funding So then the burden is not borne by local property taxpayers. That's kind of where we are right now So what he was put in the place was something that says this is the minimum, right?

just to make sure that the because there there are school systems and we're not just talking about Milwaukee outstate where they're passing referendums to keep the lights on and that has everything to do with how we fund education in the state of Wisconsin right now we're talking about nine dollars per hundred okay man you can you can do all that and try to get and then this is what we do we pick the older

Property taxpayer they get ready to go up on your property tax Some of these older people some of these older people are the same people who benefited when their kids went through public education and Somebody else picked up the calls. You're saying hold on one. So let's have a conversation I don't want to fight with you. So so you're saying

that I'm supposed to give up my house, my wealth, whatever you guys. Again, most people are not going to be giving up their houses, man, but that ain't true. You putting something out there that's just not true. Okay, well, hold on one. Hold on one, brother. If it's $9 per hundred, right? It's $1,000 per hundred. So if you've got a house that's worth $100,000, that's going to be $900 additional, 2026, 2027 coming out. That'll be additional.

But if you want to reduce those taxes, then they need to increase the amount of money that comes from the state to support public education. And that's something Republicans are refusing to do right now, Meach. Okay, but we're not refusing, but we're not refusing is to raise the tax. So you're talking about a thing that we should do or we could do. I'm talking about something that will affect

No, I'm responding to the fact that you're talking about and you're trying to scare people and saying what I'm saying is that yeah, it could be perpetuity. But if Republicans are so concerned about that 400 year tax, then what Republicans should do is change the funding formula that makes it more equitable. Same thing with why we have to do all the fees in the city is because we don't get our fair share revenue sharing.

So if Republicans are so concerned about what people are paying in their property tax, we're sitting up on a surplus, then they need to change the formula and not put the burden on local school systems to figure out how to make sure that the lights stay on in their building. Right. You right. But at the same time, we should be wondering how to do that.

But right now was in place. We don't have to wonder how to do it. They know how to do it. They refuse to do it. Okay. So what's in place right now going forward? What do we do if you got your property that you let me say something that 400 year tax that you're talking about that that that that amount of the levy was passed by the Republican

assembly but they only did it for twenty six twenty seven no no no let's get back to the history of this what happened was that when they went into buying you a budget they put it in that that to whatever that twenty eight hundred dollars right whatever that that floor is was only going to go from twenty six to twenty seven because of the pocket beat not the pocket veto the line item veto

then Evers was able to go in and take out that exception and say, no, and is putting pressure on the Republicans, you need to change. It is not just coming from Dems in Milwaukee. It's coming from all these outstate school systems. And now they've expanded choice.

Throughout throughout the state, which means that more money because every time that child goes someplace that money goes with them allegedly The money is a strike. It's a distracted right. Okay. Listen, it's it's it's handled out. Let me but what I'm saying to you is Let's quit thinking about that you you you do know we have to think about it because when you call in and start talking about people losing their houses You're not you're not given the complete picture. Hold on for people losing the house right now

Do you know that you're going to be a victim? Do you know, do you own your own house or you probably got a bank loan? So you're paying through the bank, but if you do want it right out, do you know you'll be a victim? Do you know that key? I'm not going to be a victim. If I am a victim, it's because of the school funding formula. That's what that's victimizing me.

Okay, well what we're talking about is the taxes man and nine dollars a thousand Okay, so again, I the question I always ask you is do you support public education? Brother, I support public education as long as this is Ram I'm not willing to sacrifice my children's future for some other bad

someone's going to need that. I don't know about we giving them. It's going to be surplus anyway. Listen, the feds won't take care of the babies, man. But what's happening here is that if you if you guess what they're going by, they're going by the city assessment, they're going to raise your taxes up. So why are they raising your taxes? Why are they raising like the bottom school board or city or county? Well, I'm asking you you just said they're raising your taxes. Why are your taxes being raised? Because of the school board issue and what is the school board issue? What's the school board issue? $320 per kid would come down. What is the school board issue? I'm trying. Hey, why are you this? Because I just know that there's misinformation that's going on and I think that information that I'm talking about right now I'm talking about something that's in place. It's going to hit us all 2026 text. It was going to hit us. It was going to hit us in 2627 based on what Republicans passed, right? Okay. Am I correct? You correct. Okay, but now hold on. Okay, but listen to this. If your house is $200,000.

You send up and give me this formula and I appreciate that but that's not going to be the reality for most people. Why you won't give it to the grandmothers and the people that know if your tax is raised up on a city assessment $1,800 question still got to pay your city taxes. You might have been paying $2,300. So then what do we do? Do we close NPS? Do we close NPS?

Listen, brother, this is what this is the this is the now that's fear-mongering because we know MP I'm just asking what's the alternative? And it's not gonna get close and unless we're playing games like it's gonna come we gonna get close key What if a dude on 10 hours? Well, that's a business person. That's the cost of doing business Okay, but what I'm saying is the schools the schools still need to be funded

Okay, what if you own one house and they and they're going by the city assessment and we know the city assessment is in place right most of the time they don't get a real Okay, so then let's do this then you know, there's one thing to identify the problem. What is the solution? The solution is that if you don't do not I don't care who you are

You don't know these people, and it's not worth you giving away your house. Now if this boy say he gonna go and stop it on day one fine, let him stop it then if you wanna go back to voting Democrat or whatever, go back to voting that way. But right now, let's make sure that man stops the situation so you can say what you got. What man, what man, give me a name.

First of all, anybody can look at the condition of our country right now and know who's in control, the Republican Party. Black unemployment is at its highest. Why? Because you are afraid to do anything else. I don't know. And black people that are in high positions ask them how stressed out some of them are because things are happening around them.

and their friends. But when you look at this tax situation, if you put this man in office simply because of taxes, he'll promise you anything. Trump promised us that the war would be over in what, 30 days? And now he's gonna say the first thing he's gonna do, he ain't gonna do a first thing, nothing until he talks to Trump. And I'm glad that Wisconsin is a purple state.

Because that means we have critical thinkers here. And we're not easy gone, easy going. And we give things a lot of thought. And I hope we keep that tradition of being purple. Because number one, like you told the person that you were speaking to before, if we were to get our through share of money, we would be able to manage a whole heck of a lot better than what we're doing.

but we can't because they keep shorting us. So the best thing we can do, this is the only time people that we are critically important and we have power. And that's at the time of voting. And if you think that's not real, look at what they're going through to keep us from voting, the complaint. So everybody, get up off that couch.

Stop drinking and getting high. It's serious now. And it's no time to play games. And young people, this is another important thing. You don't know who you might want to grow up to be one day. And when you mess things up by getting on these different creative podcasts or whatever it is, saying a whole bunch of dumb things, it might come back to bite.

because we do grow up, but people still hold you accountable. So, every day is an important day. And it's important that we make wise decisions. And I'm telling you, Keith, I've been around talking things, I mentioned that to Michelle. And you have people that are saying, it's been locked and loaded against us, it's nothing we can do. I'm not voting.

I said, as long as you have a defeated attitude, you'll get nothing. So every little inch makes a difference. It's not going to happen overnight. It's going to take time. And we have to be patient and take care of the business at hand. Get out and vote. Help the Republican Party out. There's some sorry men that don't have the balls to stand up and do what they need to do. Get them out of office.

My colleague Jermaine Rideout just went across the street to check on his sister across the street at the gas station directly across from us. This Clark station right here on 20th and Capital because Clark noticed that this sister. I think occasionally may sleep outside was out here and.

It looks like she has been in the exact same position and has not moved. And so, you know, we're watching for movement. Like all of this is going on in the background on my show that we're watching for movement and looking, you know, people are going in and out the door, getting their gas. She's right by the door laying on her side. And so finally, you know, we're like, look, we got to get a wellness check done. So before we call the police.

Jermaine is going across the street literally right now. He is walking across the street to check on this woman. And it is just so crazy how we see this stuff happening in our community. You don't know whether to get involved, not involved.

But to see all these people just walking past this sister. So that's what we're trying to figure out now. So we got that going on in the background as well here at the station. So we will keep you all posted if he in fact is able to see if she's OK. Looks like he's leaning over her right now. Stuff happens so much in the studio. We actually got binoculars. Clark is looking through the binoculars right now at this situation.

Did she like when he touched her? So we're checking. We're checking. So I will just mention that the other thing since we're talking about the sister during my show this morning, I didn't talk about anything other than the election, but it is not lost on me that there is a lot of conversation going on right now.

about a young sister who went to a family reunion and has ended up deceased down in Mississippi. And she was hanging from a tree. The thing that is crazy, this sister, her name is Tasia Fortune.

29 years old, a mother of four. They said on August 3rd, she was found hanging from a tree behind an abandoned home in Jackson, Mississippi. And folks can't figure out what's going on. So the Jackson police said they were responding to a call found the body, which had been reportedly there for three to four days.

three to four days. So authorities are waiting for an autopsy result to come through. But they're saying they're trying to figure out if it was foul play or not. Her family has come forward and said no, she would not have committed suicide. She was in town for a family reunion. But the thing that's really crazy about this is that we have seen now three at least three

deaths of black people via lynching or hanging from a tree in the last year coming out of Mississippi and So a number of folks are involved being crump them have been contacted by the family from what I had last heard but

These other cases have been ruled a suicide the families have disagreed with those findings Everybody does not have the money to do an independent autopsy like we have seen done in the case of Nolan Wells and There is just a lot of concern about what we see happening with our people as they are moving around particularly in the south so

The idea that this woman was hanging in a tree for days behind an abandoned home and she's in town for a vacation. So I mean for a family reunion. So how does all of this unfold? So just so you know, people will continue to keep.

I on these cases continue to talk to people that are moving around particularly if they traveling alone or just in maybe you know groups of two or less that hey you want to check in when you get there you want to you know make sure people are keeping in constant contact because this is it unnerving is an understatement yeah unsettling all of that's an understatement

folks have no idea what's happening. But again, we have seen other scenarios in which black people are, and that this would be the method of suicide. Because there's so many other ways to do this. So to do this very public, you know, time consuming, you got to go find rope, you got to find the right spot, you got to

All of the stuff that it takes to do this it does not add up and So we just want to make sure that you know, we are flagging that we don't want this sister's name not to be mentioned here in Milwaukee on our airwaves That people have got to keep an eye out for what's going on in our communities Do we know if the lady is okay? We're on the air but I told

I'll tell people you want to check on her. So she's urinated on herself and everything. Okay. So but so she need help. So can we call um uh I'm trying to figure out whatever would be the mental health provider because clearly it's a mental health situation and

Um, but we like I said, I know we can call some Yeah She was trying to talk and so everybody just passing by this woman so Yeah, because if she and you can tell she visibly has wet herself. It's on the you can see it Okay, um y'all we're gonna do this we're gonna take a break real quick

and do what we need to do to call 2-1-1. I'm sorry, not 2-1-1. To call 9-1-1 to get some services for the sister to get her. Yeah, I mean, I don't know if they're going somewhere. Yeah, they don't see it. So let's make an official call because that way she's in the system and hopefully we can get her some services. So I'm going to take a quick break. So this is Michelle Bryant sitting in for my colleague Keith Paris Just for a brief amount of time today while he takes care of something So welcome to community voice and for those folks that were listening before the commercial break You may be aware that we have a situation that was happening outside of the radio station I want to thank my my team my folks as usual for you know

care enough to see what's happening. We had noticed before my show began, Clark had noticed that a woman was laying motionless across the street from us at the gas station. As my show progresses and goes through the day, he still notices no movement. She's motionless. Finally, Jermaine goes across the street to do a wellness check and realizes that there's certainly something going on. The woman is

laying in her own urine. She wasn't able to talk to Jermaine when he was trying to, you know, arouse her to ask her some questions or see what she needed. So at this point, we have called for police and emergency medical care to come over to the station to see about her. But I think the thing that gets me is the number of people we've seen go in and out of that door that have walked past that lady. And I know on one hand, you know,

We see it so much. You see people in crisis. You see people that are homeless. You see people that they just got a lot going on. And you don't know when to get involved with not to get involved. But in this case, Jermaine said, you know, the urine was visible from where she was laying that, you know, that this accident had occurred.

So just to remind people, you know, if you don't do nothing, we'll pick up the phone and call 911 and report it. You don't have to be engaged. You don't have to stay. I went through the whole thing with the. Oh, you talk about the store operator that they know that this woman is laying out there and have done nothing either. Yeah. And I would think as a business owner, like.

You know, which says a lot about not just caring for the person on the street, but what you care about what your customers got to see. You know, so to that point that we always talk about people in our community and it's just about making a dollar. It's just about, you know, doing business. And so anyway, you know, just that plea, if we if you see something, just call 911. You don't have to get engaged, but just call 911. I also was talking before I went to the break about

And thank you for folks. I see some folks that put some stuff in the chat. George said, we're to help for the homeless and mentally ill. Yet the president is allowed to steal millions for himself and his family, spend on a pool, airplane. Please vote cannot let Tiffany win. I think that sentiment has really gotten the best of a lot of people.

We saw the jobs report come out to say that this month or the month of July, 23,000 jobs were lost. Okay. We know that African American women have lost more than 300,000 jobs under the Trump administration. And yet you have to sit and listen to his people talk about how great the economy is and how well we're doing. When you got people who are saying, I no longer have healthcare now.

because they couldn't figure out what to do about these subsidies. So they did nothing. And now I can no longer afford to even, you know, see a doctor yet alone pay for a prescription. So these are things that when George talks about, you know, we got to vote, we got to show up. It's the every day. It's not always even the big picture stuff. It's the ability to make sure that there are some services out here. The other thing that's scary as I'm talking about these.

this number of black people that have been found mysteriously hanging in trees and someone in the chat. And thank you for doing that. They talked about the brother that was found hanging in the tree here in Wisconsin in Brookfield on the golf course. And, you know, people tried to quickly write it off as a suicide. But again, in the history of black folks in this country, that's never been the way black people, if they were going to take their own lives, you know, like

with the frequency that we are seeing that they're trying to tell us that all of these people are taking their own lives and doing it in this very public labor intensive manner. Because again, you got to go buy the supplies.

Then you got to find the spot. Then you got to figure out how you're going to get it up, you know, there. And then, you know, to get yourself situated and then have something to brace yourself on while you're getting situated. And then I mean, like it's a lot involved in that whole thing.

It's a lot easier ways to do this. And this is why a lot of people are questioning what they see. So let's just say we believe that there is something crazy going on that potentially Black people are being targeted and being lynched as they were in the old Jim Crow South, as it was, you know, recent as the 80s, when we remember that there was the mother of African-American young men who ultimately ended up suing the KKK and

She was awarded their headquarters as a part of the settlement We've seen lynchings, you know In our lifetime honestly if we tell the truth about it and we've had to rely on the Department of Justice in a lot of cases to be able to either advocate investigate and figure out

You know if our rights have been violated so it is with that backdrop that so many people Are looking at the recent process to get Todd Blanche Donald Trump's former personal attorney across the finish line to be the United States Attorney General it is so crazy It is so crazy and so scary. This is a man who is an election denier. This is someone

who has demonstrated even in the current role and as backup when he was backing up Pam Bondi that he was willing to do whatever Donald Trump asked him to do and Yes, people talk about that Attorney generals and presidents have relationships all the time they do but

That does not mean that they run them that they tell them what to do that you are not thinking for yourself You are simply executing what it is the president is telling you to do and so whether we talk about civil rights claims election fraud election protections We are now having to To trust Basically Donald Trump's personal lawyer to be the advocate for the American people

Those two things don't work together. They don't go hand-in-hand. Debo, you dropped your mic. Did you want to get in? I was waiting for you to shift. There was a story I sent you on yesterday. It may have even been this morning out of Chicago. Okay. If you're in the home. The bodies. Yeah. What did they say? It was like 50. Because I think they said four dozen. Yeah.

So one of the things I was because I saw that pop up briefly And I was trying to figure out like who owned it first. I was my notes on the south side of Chicago Who owned it but and then I even thought for those first responders That had to go in and see that because they said that the bodies were in different phases of decomposition So for folks that are not familiar with this story

uh it aired a couple of days ago but more than 50 cremated remains um were found at a funeral home alongside 56 decomposing bodies so you got cremated remains of 50 people and another 56

were in a state of decomposition, different states of decomposition. Dozens of improperly stored bodies were removed from the southeast side, funeral home, and that's, I guess that's the name of it. Oh, no, that's not the name of it. From something. Yeah.

Chicago, right? Yeah, in Chicago. So this was all done, removed on Friday morning, and Keith is back to hear his voice. The Cook County medical examiner is trying to identify the remains of all these people. They're not even sure who everybody is. There was a lady, she said that they had her sister, and they told her it would be about three months or something like that before she would get her remains back, but they called her within a week and told her that she had

that they had her remains. So she is like at this point, I don't even know if that's my sister. My sister could be still a part of what they found because they told us initially three to six months before you would get her remains back. So, so those bodies were on top of each other means that DNA can because they're decomposing. So yeah. Yeah. And the way that even said that they found them, um,

multiple decedents. Reckers said that they allow multiple decedents to be kept in an unrefrigerated area with deplorable conditions, including rodent infestation, causing decomposition and maggot infestation of the bodies. After learning about all of it, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional

You know, they're basically their department of regs and safety said it was working with investigators to ensure that, you know, all public and regulatory records were taken. They said that this this these same operators had another facility that they closed down. So this isn't their first infraction to this magnitude, maybe not, but certainly. Wow.

Yeah, this is this is disgusting what I find amazing is though a lot of times people still do business with these folks even though they have a reputation I mean we saw that locally here because a lot of times you You can't afford to do business elsewhere. Yeah, you know Whether it's the state has a contract with some of these people to take these bodies of indigent people Or they let you do a payment plan. You believe you're doing a payment plan a lot of times. I mean like

While we keep going to a gas station, they'll just let a body lay outside. Yeah. You know, we go to places all the time that mistreat us. Sometimes it's folks that look like us. Well, just as an update, the paramedics have arrived at the scene. So hopefully this system will get the help that she needs. But man, when I say we got so many people in crisis, it's crazy. You could do this all day.

You literally could do it all day. So I'm going to get out your way. DJ. Carla, welcome to the program. Yeah, well, thank you. That sounds almost as bad as Jeffrey Dahmer, man, other than the fact Jeffrey Dahmer ate his people that he had. But this is bad, man. I mean, it gives the business a bad slap on the face. You've got people like Michelle Piston do a wonderful job and others that do a good job. And people like this, not only should they be put out of business, but they should do jail time and get sued, too.

It's bad. It's bad. It's bad all the way around. It's just as bad as Jeffery Dunn rather than... But you know what, Tyrone? One of the more powerful lobbying groups in this country are undertakers. When you look at that dude that was down in Georgia, he was supposed to be running that crematorium. And remember, what they charged him with, I mean, it was like misdemeanors. You know, I mean, it is... No, they're...

They're very powerful lobbying group. This has got to change, though. I don't know how much lobbying you can do when I got 100 and some odd families I have just totally messed over. No, what I'm saying is in terms of how tough the regulations are, what the punishment is for this dude down there, he caught 250 misdemeanors. It wasn't even any jail time. That's bad. That's bad. That's why people go postlin' and start, you know,

putting the rifle in the ammunition to people's behind. I almost said another word, but. Yeah, and you know, it says something. I don't want to advocate that, but you know, that's what makes people, because I mean, keep letting keep happening. Don't don't let it come this way. Yeah, but it also says something about how we feel about the remains of our loved ones. I mean, yeah, yeah.

Obviously, the soul is not there. It's a different piece. I know when we were interviewing Michelle Pitts, and she was talking about how there's a movement out there called Natural Burials, where they just, you don't get embalmed. Yeah, they do that with the Muslims. Right. You don't get embalmed. And there's only one cemetery that you can do that here in the city is Forsong.

But I'll listen to you, but that's bad that they're doing that way. Somebody should be brought in front of the district attorney. Thank you. Yeah, I just think that the laws on the books is not going to it. That's what's unfortunate. But I mean, like this is even my frustration and this is completely it's gonna sound like Michelle, you know, this is frivolous compared to what we're talking about right now. But

You know we go to the trouble put these laws on the books like the tire dumping And then we see the scenario in which that guy who dumped thousands and thousands of tires was basically getting ready to get away with a slap on his wrist Yeah, and it's just like well why you made all this big drama to do and everybody hold a press conference and we got something passed only not to even apply it in the full application of the law or Because the other part that I thought about if they get this brother

for dumping all these tires, then they got to get the white boys that own the tire companies. Because you know, you contracting with somebody that's undercutting the market rate to give you them tires. Them tires all got serial number, got markings on them. So you know where the tires came from. So the first thing I thought, like, well, why is this brother being treated so lightly? It ain't helping him. You helping these tire companies.

that do business well if you've ever had your tires replaced you know that there's a charge yeah the disposal charge right and that's what it's supposed to be used to help get rid of them and so let's just say that fee is three dollars this brother telling you i pick up the tires for a dollar right and they know when they're giving them to them that this is the most likely shady yeah i ain't looking yeah so to keep from going after some of them companies

This brother could, you know, could have potentially just get a slap on the wrist. And I'm just saying, so to your point about who legislators listen to, who has influence, who spends money, who writes checks to candidates. Yeah, it's kind of creepy. Because there's always been things around, you know, the mortuary business. And then you go and you find out they do heavy lobbying. They do heavy lobbying.

And it's and now you see more and more national change. Did you see the Jamie Foxx movie where he played Willie Gary? I didn't see it in its entirety. I saw bits and pieces. It's fascinating because and and what it was was there was this this funeral director in Mississippi, white funeral director. And there was a Canadian company that's buying up all of these funeral homes in America.

And it was something with the deal. They was trying to put him out of business. Long story short, they do some real investigating, bringing Willie Gary. They do great investigative work with this dude is going through. And then the National Baptist Convention comes up. And I remember that's how the guy who was president that ended up losing, he went to jail because of the deal that he cut with this funeral director, right? This in Canada.

And they were selling these burial trust that weren't really burial trust So yeah, because it was a young lady says based on a true story. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah She was part of it. I can't think of her name now. She's passed a few years ago We passed a part of the scam part of it. Yeah, what was she was hooked up with the National Baptist Convention? I want to say was it Jimison was president of National Baptist Convention Really? Yeah

And the guys going through one of the, you know, cause when they put the law clerks on the guys going through and he goes, Baptist convention and talked about how they had cut this deal and then they could show how they charge. It wasn't just poor black folks or poor white folks in Mississippi charged them more than they should have been charging them for the funerals. Cause these folks were poor. Yeah. Okay. Now that you have completely.

Oh, somebody said, Michelle, can I update them on the young lady? I'm helping. Let me just say this. I just got back. And literally, because we were waiting on her driver's license, because she was from out of the area, out of the state, her driver's license literally came while I was out of town, got that.

I will just simply say this. She has gotten a better job paying a lot more money. So that's been one update. Just, you know, got started, had to have steel toe boots. So I bought those while I was gone and had them sent to where she's staying. We have got to get her out of where she is right now because it was temporary. She is still not in housing. She needed her.

was constant state ID to be able to facilitate some services. So we were waiting on the ID. And then in other cases, we keep getting, I'm calling you back, I'm calling you back, missed phone calls, I'm calling you back. And so I just cannot say enough how frustrating the whole thing has been. And that a lot of personal money,

And obviously, you know, people that in the beginning, you know, said, hey, give this to this young lady, help her, you know, paying for hotels. But if this is not worked out by today, I'm going to be paying for additional days in a hotel. Like when I tell you this is crazy, it's crazy. Yeah, because on one hand, because she didn't have a state ID, we had to get the state ID.

So we went through all of that back and forth. They did, they get you to her piece of paper, but we were waiting because they said, oh, it was a problem, but then now they got straightened out. So her ID, I literally put our ID in my hand yesterday. And then we have the places, we've lost two places waiting on people to follow up. And I'm just going to tell you, it's, it's, it's raggedy. The, some of the system stuff is raggedy. And, you know, while we can talk about, we've helped the chronically homeless.

The people that are the typical homeless. I'm homeless for a month. I'm homeless for 60 days. Those people, those people in trouble. You know, the chronically homeless, you've been homeless, I think, for at least a year. And we can figure out a way to get you off the street. But if you in trouble for you in between jobs, you got evicted, 60, 90 days, man, you out, you behind out. So, yes, that's what I'm doing, literally, today.

is getting this whole piece worked out. But the likelihood, if these people cannot get her into the place in the next day, then I am back on the hook for a hotel bill again. All right. Yeah, the only reason why they found it, because they put up that little blue light in the kitchen, I guess. They can tell he could try to clean up. And he had like a month. What is it called? I call it the blue light. Well, they dropped, is it aluminum? You know, around them, because she watches those NCIs. Oh, yeah.

But there's something they can put down and then the infrared picks it up. Yeah. Yeah. So he taught about those blue lights. Remember, you score in the club and the blue lights beyond all your clothes. Yeah. Yeah. You know, what I've heard too many times.

I know I wish I could buy one for my hotel rooms. I do, I would love to. I don't think you would want to because once you see his earring, you're probably sleeping in your car. Exactly. And you're kind of going that, well, society has created a lot of anger, created a whole lot of anger. You know, money when you broke, when you broke, you get mad. It was like, I don't know if y'all remember, it seemed like it was like,

Yeah, I remember that remember that when they yeah and people going like you wonder why it doesn't happen more often You know where people get to the get to that breaking point. Oh, oh, oh, speaking of referee, that blind umpire who worked home plate yesterday, I know you see the boys game there. That dude missed so many calls. They could have, every other pitch could have been challenged. Who said it wasn't on purpose?

Man, it wasn't paying attention. It was getting to the point and thank God the Brewers didn't live because there was that one play where he where He called the ball with the dude did he did swing and what the check swing? All right, bro. Yeah, man that dude and here's the thing now they can go and he's being graded but this strike zone was just like I Don't know what he was looking at everybody to the point where the commentators are going like

What's up with this? And the fact that Brewer's won that game, you know, was, you know. But you know that what I hate is after when the referees mess up and then the league come out that following day or a couple of days later with a report and say, well, the referee missed his call. We're sorry. It's not going to take away from the loss. It's not going to take away. Right. But it's going to cost them. It's going to cost the ref. It's going to cost the ref. Yeah. But the team, it's going to hurt the team. Because they evaluate you after every game, after every game.

But they ain't gonna do that dude and that strike zone yesterday and at first you kind of going he's dude is pretty generous and Then there was one they challenged it was almost like what six inches outside the strike zone like come on man I'm not one of these people talk about referee cheating. I think that regardless of who the Democratic nominee will be, this is going to be a turnout election, right?

Again regardless of who the dem nominee is if those folks who are apt to vote Democrat will show up to vote She still or he they still have a good chance of winning And I think that that's what it is and with all the background noise that's going on because I asked this question a month ago I was wondering where the Dems in terms of running ads against Tom Tiffany

And there was a group out supporting Tom Tiffany.

They went after Francesca Hahn.

Man, they went after her.

And I think so.

I know where people are at this point.

You know, it is when you put these labels on politicians and where they are, because you're going to find out in my mind anyway, that there's probably not a lot of difference between David Crowley,

or Francesca Hahn in terms of the important issues, right?

And I always think that, you know, primaries, you know, you play, you play to the base and then you hope.

through hard work and other things that you'll be able to expand in the general election where you can appeal.

Now Wisconsin's a unique state because Wisconsin does not have a lot of independent voters.

Wisconsin is a purple state that means it's equally divided and that's a little sliver of independent voters.

So what you hope is that you're able to like do a little bit of damage in the wild, which is

was at Washington, Ozaki, and Walkershaw County, where you can get, so I'll do my trips as we get more and more into going towards the general.

Why just go out to see what the lawn signs look like?

Because the lawn signs, it's, you know, it's an anecdotal indicator of what level support is.

I was telling folks on Friday when I drove down to Racine, I did see a Will Martin sign next to a Tom Tiffany sign in Racine County, not in the city of Racine, in Racine County.

So we'll see.

You know, Trump is definitely on the ballot, whether his name appears or not.

The economy is on the ballot.

And so with people and think what the Republicans are trying to do is turn this thing into like there's a communist takeover, which means that that will divert attention away from the damage that Republicans have done in terms of the economic conditions and, you know, the tariffs, the big, beautiful bill, all these things.

And so when people are talking about, for example, where the Democratic Socialists would say that, you know, Medicare for all, you know, everyone would have access to public health care.

Um, there are people who push back on that.

Well, who's pushing back on that?

And what the big beautiful bill did and what they did not do, they did not extend the subsidies for people who were trying to get health insurance.

So they're going to do about 28 million people are going to lose access to health insurance.

So people are trying to get around because it's amazing.

certain parties will have you talk about emotional issues and not talk about real issues and right now the real issue is the cost of gas, the cost of food, the cost of living.

A job report just came out on Friday.

The Academy lost 29,000 jobs and they said that even though the unemployment rate ticked down to tick down because people stopped looking for work.

And so, you know Donald Trump will get on television and say we have the hottest economy going anywhere No, we don't but I tell you who is making money oil companies oil companies are making money hand over fist, right?

So when people and again, that's that becomes a little bit of a two-edged sword because if you have investments, you know oil company utilities are usually where a lot of these pension funds are invested their money so

The house is the building that you own a commercial with.

Some people may have my own 10 hours.

Do you understand what the increase or

when I think then I think that what should happen is that a that the Legislature should come up with a more equitable school funding So then the burden is not borne by local property taxpayers.

That's kind of where we are right now So what he was put in the place was something that says this is the minimum, right?

just to make sure that the because there there are school systems and we're not just talking about Milwaukee outstate where they're passing referendums to keep the lights on and that has everything to do with how we fund education in the state of

Wisconsin right now we're talking about nine dollars per hundred

okay man you can you can do all that and try to get and then this is what we do we pick the older

Property taxpayer they get ready to go up on your property tax Some of these older people some of these older people are the same people who benefited when their kids went through public education and Somebody else picked up the calls.

You're

saying hold on one.

So let's have a conversation I don't want to fight with you.

So so you're saying

that I'm supposed to give up my house, my wealth, whatever you guys.

Again, most people are not going to be giving up their

houses, man, but

that ain't true.

You putting something out there that's just not

true.

If it's $9 per hundred, right?

It's $1,000 per hundred.

So if you've got a house that's worth $100,000, that's going to be $900 additional, 2026, 2027 coming out.

want to reduce those taxes, then they need to increase the amount of money that comes from the state to support public education.

And that's something Republicans are refusing to do right

Okay, but we're not refusing, but we're not refusing is to raise the tax.

So you're talking about a thing that we should do or we could do.

I'm talking about something that will affect

I'm responding to the fact that you're talking about, and you're trying to scare people and saying that they're doing what you are.

They're trying to do this 400 year tax.

What I'm saying is that, yeah, it could be perpetuity, but if Republicans are so concerned about that 400 year tax, then what Republicans should do is change the funding formula that makes it more equitable.

Same thing with why we have to do all the fees in the city is because we don't get our fair share revenue sharing.

So if Republicans are so concerned about what people are paying in their property tax, we're sitting up on a surplus, then they need to change the formula and not put the burden on local school systems to figure out how to make sure that the lights stay on in their building.

But at the same time, we should be wondering how to do that.

But right now was in place.

We don't have to wonder how to do it.

They know how to do it.

They refuse to do it.

So what's in place right now going forward?

It is not just coming from Dems in Milwaukee.

It's coming from all these outstate school systems.

And now they've expanded choice.

Throughout throughout the state, which means that more money because every time that child goes someplace that money goes with

First of all, anybody can look at the condition of our country right now and know who's in control, the Republican Party.

Black unemployment is at its highest.

Why?

Because you are afraid to do anything else.

I don't know.

And black people that are in high positions ask them how stressed out some of them are because things are happening around them.

and their friends.

But when you look at this tax situation, if you put this man in office simply because of taxes, he'll promise you anything.

Trump promised us that the war would be over in what, 30 days?

And now he's gonna say the first thing he's gonna do, he ain't gonna do a first thing, nothing until he talks to Trump.

And I'm glad that Wisconsin is a purple state.

Because that means we have critical thinkers here.

And we're not easy gone, easy going.

And we give things a lot of thought.

And I hope we keep that tradition of being purple.

Because number one, like you told the person that you were speaking to before, if we were to get our through share of money, we would be able to manage a whole heck of a lot better than what we're doing.

but we can't because they keep shorting us.

So the best thing we can do, this is the only time people that we are critically important and we have power.

And that's at the time of voting.

And if you think that's not real, look at what they're going through to keep us from voting, the complaint.

So everybody, get up off that couch.

Stop drinking and getting high.

It's serious now.

And it's no time to play games.

And young people, this is another important thing.

You don't know who you might want to grow up to be one day.

And when you mess things up by getting on these different creative podcasts or whatever it is, saying a whole bunch of dumb things, it might come back to bite.

because we do grow up, but people still hold you accountable.

So, every day is an important day.

And it's important that we make wise decisions.

And you have people that are saying, it's been locked and loaded against us, it's nothing we can do.

I said, as long as you have a defeated attitude, you'll get nothing.
