To start off this hour, Up North News Radio talks about Donald Trump’s new running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, and how he likes to talk about his upbringing in Appalachia, but Pat Kreitlow explains the many ways Vance seems to have forgotten his roots or is using them as a political prop rather than looking for ways to help people break generational cycles of poverty.
Then on Maino & the Mayor, the guys get schooled by Kaelynn Hauser who was just named NWTC's Outstanding Student for the year. We celebrate her hard work and learn more about her journey and why she chose NWTC. She's working full time with Nicolet National Bank in project management but also works at Pedal Pushers Floral Shop. She's a complete delight, and she and Maino have similar fashion sense...they both have Chuck All-Stars. Congrats Kaelynn!!
Next up, Mike McCabe joins the John & Gordy Show to talk about "vertical thinking" and how conservatives and liberals live very similar lives, and there isn't that much that differentiates us. McCabe also talks about Wisconsin's history of being a nation leader in progressive policy.
Wrapping up the week, BustED Pencils is joined by guest Randi Weingarten (president of AFT, called "the most dangerous person in the world" by Mike Pompeo) to talk how public education in America is experiencing a unique "Dickens moment" of the best and worst of times. She describes the struggle between kids learning as they interact in a pluralistic environment, that hey- they actually like each other, and the real struggles with covid, teacher shortages, and attacks on public education in the following way that was really powerful to me: "it's this fight between fear and hope, it's this fight between anger and aspiration".
