Songs About Jane (Hour 2)

As Goes Wisconsin · Wed Jan 3, 2024

Welcome to January 3rd, 2024 and Mattnair on the air.

On the civic media radio network.

Yes, we have some changes we want to share with you as evidenced by Calvin's bump in music

thereby.

Mr David Bowie.

David Bowie is our new co-host.

Yes, our third co-host.

Our beloved colleague and friend, Kristen Brie, has taken a new opportunity which she is going

to be able to tell you about in the coming weeks.

So keep following Kristen and as goes Wisconsin on all your social media platforms, she is

still there and it's not our place to share the details of her next adventure.

So but she will be updating you as, as she can.

So again, continue to follow Kristen Brie as goes Wisconsin on all your social medias.

And otherwise it's like springing someone else's surprise and we don't want to do that.

Yeah.

I was going to treat like a wrestling thing where I was like, oh, listen to your brother

but I got shut down because I wanted some pomp and dramatics, but they're like, no, let's

speak it out.

Because we were friends.

I know.

I know.

We're all really good friends.

And I mean that most sincerely, we just had lunch on Friday and I didn't have lunch

on Friday.

I, Kristen and I had lunch on Friday and I got to hold baby Frankie.

And by the way, she did tell me because I read baby bubbles that I'm her favorite person

at civic media.

So the competition is over.

I never entered this competition to begin with this was a weird competition between

you and program director Catherine that there's this unspoken, yeah, rivalry.

I got a dog.

I don't care about anyone else right now.

I mean, I care about Frankie Lou and I care about Kristen.

I care about Mike, but I want to cuddle my dog right now.

Okay.

So that's fine.

But yeah, so that's, there's the news.

Well, that is, that is the news.

And we wish her well.

This is a very, very happy parting.

Yes.

There is no animosity.

There is no bed.

There are no bed feelings.

I have always only wanted what is best for her and now with the baby and other changes

in her life.

She has just found an opportunity that is going to be a little bit of a better fit for

her.

Exactly.

So we're very excited for her.

I'm going to miss her.

I love her and wish you're all the best.

So welcome to Matt and they're on air.

Oh, okay.

This was an emergency branding meeting yesterday because this kind of happened quickly in

the background.

I always like to talk about live radio.

If you ever worked in community theater, which I did for many, many, many years, and I love

community theater, but it's all volunteer for the most part.

And it's always like there's a fire going on behind the scenes.

And yet you're still putting on a good show in the front of the house.

Yeah.

And this is kind of what like live radio was like.

Yeah.

Yeah.

And there were some title choices.

Yes.

I came up with a couple insane in the Mem Jane.

That was one of mine.

That did not, that did not make the, didn't even make the whiteboard.

No, didn't even make the whiteboard.

No.

I was told to get coffee.

If you have suggestions, oh man, because this is kind of a working title, Matt and air,

if you have suggestions, let us know eight, four, four, nine, six, seven, two, seven,

eight, nine, eight, four, four, nine, six party.

Thank you.

Keep them clean.

Let's say we're still, even though it's a new, a new name, we're still beholden to FCC.

We are rules and regulations.

Very much so.

Text us.

Yeah.

Please.

Text us, give us a call.

Again, eight, four, four, nine, six, seven, two, seven, eight, nine.

And just because, just because it's a new name, doesn't mean you can't download that civic

media app.

You can take it everywhere you go.

Everywhere.

It is the happiest of apps.

It's like an happy meal.

It is.

Happy meal of information.

You can listen to all the shows across the entire civic media network.

It has that instantaneous text and call.

So handy.

Genius.

It is so genius.

And by the way, if you normally like to watch us on the live stream, that has changed

a little bit too.

Yeah.

Yeah.

So if you're, if you're, if you're looking for us, you will find us at the civic media's

Facebook, YouTube and Twitter feeds.

Yes.

And if you don't know it, look for Matt and air on air.

If you don't know what Twitter is, it's now called X because a guy who made some cars

was like, I want to spend some money.

Point is, you can still find us.

And I still, I see people watching us on the live stream right now.

Hello, hello, live stream people.

Oh, no.

Say hello to us in the comments.

What do you give them the people?

Thank you so much for joining us.

We really appreciate it.

And again, just so there's no confusion about anything that we love, Kristen.

We're very happy for her.

We're very excited for her.

And it's going to be great.

Yeah.

It's going to be great.

It's going to be great for everybody.

So we're not going to change this too considerably here.

We send kisses.

We do send kisses.

Absolutely.

Kristen, to Mike and to baby Frankie always, always, always, always.

We send kisses to you too.

Not sure about that.

Well, it depends.

Eight, four, four, nine, six, seven, 27, 89, eight, four, four, nine, six, party if you

would like to have a suggestion for the show title because again, it's just came up kind

of quickly, kind of a quick branding meeting yesterday throwing things at the wall.

Let's see what happens.

Let's see.

What can stick?

We call pasta on the wall.

Jane that.

Right.

Professor Brian Kelly and I were texting last night because I brought up.

He has a list of 30 songs about Jane.

Yeah.

There's an album called Songs about Jane.

I did not know.

The Room 5's first album is called Songs about Jane.

I knew Jane from Starship.

I knew Sweet Jane from Lou Reed.

Yeah.

Lady Jane from the Rolling Stones.

That was about it.

And I started looking through this list of Jane songs and reading the lyrics and it's

like, geez, are they all drug dealers and prostitutes?

Okay.

It's like, wow, where's the happy Jane songs?

There's a band of rappers.

They're Irish ladies, they're called House of Jane.

I like that.

Who grew up in the 90s to get that reference?

You didn't.

I didn't.

Never mind.

Was it important?

No, no, no, no.

I'm just trying to uphold the title I was given last week of being the funny one on

the show.

What I know, seriously, you have the charm and the brains and the face, everything I

lack.

I make up for in humor.

It's like when you're like, like, oh, what does he look like?

He's got a nice personality.

He's a wonderful personality.

Okay.

I love Greg.

Great.

He's checking in on the stream.

Brady Kultard says, I love the title, Matt Nair on air.

Thank you, Brady.

We appreciate that.

If you want to check in with your suggestions, if you have some rhymy words, Brian and I spent

20 minutes last night just sharing different words that rhyme with Jane dorks.

I know.

We have no lives.

I'm really upset that I wasn't included in this.

It's just kind of popped out of nowhere.

Okay.

Steven from Green Bay is on the line who I believe is the one who dubbed you the funny

one.

Good morning, Steven.

Thank you so much for joining us.

What do you want to say?

Is that my new name when I call the one that dubbed Greg back to the funny one?

You are the one.

Yes.

Yes.

Okay.

I have a name and let me just tell you, I recently haven't been trying to do the same

thing because I'm starting my own podcast.

That's one of the things I'm doing in 2024 is that it's kind of my activism.

Part of me is I'm going to be starting my own podcast.

This is for you.

So I was doing the same thing.

I'm like, what am I going to call myself that people haven't already done.

I don't want to take someone else's name.

But for you, because of the platform you kind of talk about, I think progress or dream

might met in there would be cool.

I don't hate that.

That's not bad.

Progress with Jane met in there.

You think it would look good on a t-shirt?

About.

Yeah.

I mean, you could put that on t-shirt.

You can make a can of soup.

You can make it a can of soup.

We got to, we got to have merch, Steven, we're, we're always looking for an on merch idea.

The right is always calling themselves patriots.

So I mean, if they can call themselves patriots, I don't think August is a bad thing.

All right.

I appreciate that.

There you go.

Thank you so much, Steven.

Have a wonderful day.

And thank you so much for listening.

Good luck with your podcast, by the way.

Yeah.

Yeah.

That is a, that is the thing.

We have some texts here.

A bunch of them actually.

920.

Listen to WGBW.

I love Matt Nair on the air.

Another one from the 515.

Listen to right here, W-A-U-K, new name, Faces of the news.

I don't, that sounds, that sounds like a heady 70s, like, like you should be sitting on

chairs on, on, on TV, smoking or welcome to Faces of the news tonight.

We have the undersecretary of agriculture.

Yes.

Maybe a two hour conversation.

Right.

Right.

Just about, yes, just about that.

I think I lack the gravitas for Faces of the news.

I think you get angry at them after a while.

I think you would just be like, say something that matters.

541 Andrew from Maine, listening to W-A-U-K, will Kristen be dropping by still?

We don't know.

We don't know.

We'll see.

I mean, this is all, all new stuff for it.

So we won't say yes.

We won't say no.

We'll say she's always certainly welcome to the future is unknown.

Pants Party with insane Jane.

Thank you very much.

414.

I'm sorry.

What was it?

Pants Party with insane Jane.

If I had a, if I had a, if I had a music show from seven to midnight is when I started

in radio, I wanted to be the cool rock chick.

Unfortunately, I was neither cool nor a rock chick, which is how I ended up doing mornings

because I just wasn't cool.

If I had a cool seven to midnight music show, I, I would do Pants Party with insane Jane.

I think the fact that you wanted to call it Pants Party was insane Jane is why you went

to mornings.

Sane on the air rhymes with your name.

That's from the seven one five, Pat.

And then finally, 608, let's listen to W F H at W F H R is coming from Laura in Rapids

complain with Jane.

Oh, oh, Laura, oh, that could be the whole second hour.

What you do.

What you do, Laura, we have somebody else checking in on the live stream.

And by the way, the show is streaming live just on different platforms.

You want to find civic media.us on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.

We have another comment.

Mark Kuchler says to paraphrase the barred a show by any other name would be as sweet.

Wow.

See, you're the sweet one.

Oh, yeah.

Have the funny one.

Only until you get to know us a little bit.

Yeah, then you're like, Oh, Greg, he's the loud one.

No, you are the, you're the funny.

That's fun.

If you have any other suggestions, please text him in column in eight, four, four, nine,

six, seven, two, seven, eight, nine, coming up, Dan Schaeffer is going to be here from

the wonderful recombobulation area.

We're going to be talking about a number of things, including the new sales taxes have

begun in Milwaukee County in the city of Milwaukee, which was part of the budget deal

and the shared revenue deal.

So we're going to talk a little bit about that.

And also the redistricting cases, very, very important.

We'll see how much of that can move along.

Well, it's hopefully a moves along at a nice pace, at a nice pace, at a wonderful pace.

When we return, Aaron Rogers, you're such a, you're something, you are, but yes, you

are and we'll have all the details pile of something when we return, stay with us.

This is Matt Nair on Air on the Civic Media Radio Network.

I said that time may change me, but I can't trace down.

Good morning, and welcome, welcome, welcome to Matt Nair on Air, Jane, Matt Nair in the

big chair.

Greg Bach would be.

Matt Nair in the big chair on air.

Oh, Greg Bach with me in our studio and beautiful downtown walkershop.

We've got Calvin on the board and we'd love to hear from you.

All our texts eight, four, four, nine, six, seven, two, seven, eight, nine.

If you're watching on the live stream, you can find us on Civic Media's Facebook, YouTube

and Twitter pages.

Big announcement at the top of the show, Kristen has received another opportunity, which is

going to work out really well for her and her husband and little baby Frankie.

We're very excited for her.

Yes.

We love her.

We're going to miss her.

We're still very good friends.

I know you and you and Kristen are good friends.

I did.

Very, very good friends with Kristen.

This is not.

Does not goodbye.

This is not acrimonious in any stretch by any stretch of the imagination.

It really isn't so we're we're delighted for her.

We're delighted for for us and and are grateful to have you along.

So we were taking some of your recommendations.

We had kind of a real quickly put together meeting yesterday and what are we going to call

this?

And so Matt Nair on the on air was was the determination, but this is a working title

at this point.

We're taking your suggestions.

If you have an idea for a different name for the show, uh, Texter from the four one

forces.

Yay.

Jane finally headlines her own show.

Congratulations.

If not permanent, here's my top of the head of the suggestion, James world.

James world.

James world.

That makes me.

Garth.

Oh.

Thomas of.

Greg earth.

That's dumb.

I'm sorry.

Everybody.

That's it.

I'll be listening.

Best of luck from Eric of Tosa.

Thank you so very much.

Eric.

A couple good ones here.

Oh, good.

First one, uh, just two six, two, uh, listening on W a UK right now.

Thank you for listening.

I love Matt and air on there or forward with Jane, Matt and air.

I, that is a, I put that in forward with Jane, Matt and air.

Yeah.

Yeah.

I like that.

And here's one I'm less excited about.

Okay.

Andrew from Maine said the whisko beauty and the laughing beast.

So I don't see that as a compliment.

You don't find that even moderately amusing.

You were called beautiful.

I was called a beast and not like in beast mode.

Like I'm going to spike a football like you don't know that the kids away, that, that

hunk of hair is coming towards us.

That is, that is not Andrew's intention.

Yeah.

Okay.

I can just tell by the way he typed it out.

You can tell Andrew from Maine.

I can tell 844 967 2789 844 966 party.

If you have a suggestion for the show name, right now, Matt and air on air is what we're

going to go with.

So Dan Schaefer is coming up in a little bit at 1033.

We did want to take a moment.

Oh, man, Aaron Rogers why do you have to be such a pill?

He's a POS a piece of something.

He is just a, he's just a, he's a pill.

This is what happens when board rich guys don't have to work.

So Aaron Rogers was on what, yes, this is some ESPN show, the Pat McAfee show.

Oh, he's like the only person that he talks to is like Joe Rogans, but more sports.

Oh, even better.

Yeah.

Yeah.

So he's on the Pat McAfee show on ESPN and apparently Aaron Rogers and talk show host

Jimmy Kimmel had been having some back and forth.

So I assume about the COVID vaccine, correct, correct, and all of that stuff.

So they're not necessarily fans of one another.

And now the Jeffrey Epstein list of all of the people who flew on his private planes

to his private islands is supposed to be getting released.

I thought this week, sometime this week, we'll see.

And Aaron Rogers said that he kind of implied that Jimmy Kimmel is on this list.

He straight outside of of people who went to Jeffrey Epstein's island where there was

lots of sex traffic and going on and sex with underage girls and things like that.

So yeah, there's a lot of people, including Jimmy Kimmel said, Aaron, who are hoping that

list doesn't come out.

Yep.

I'll tell you what, if it comes out, I will definitely be popping some sort of bottle in celebration.

Mr.

Kimmel was not happy.

He he's a comedian, but he does not take well to things like this.

No, he really doesn't.

Dear A whole for the record, I have not met flown with visited or had any contact whatsoever

with Epstein nor will you find my name on any list other than the clearly phony nonsense

that's a soft brained wackos like yourself can't seem to distinguish from reality.

Your reckless words put my family in danger, keep it up and we will debate the facts further

in court.

Yeah.

You know, that's just that sort of thing, I mean, talk about classlessness.

I mean, this was a guy who a few years ago, who's just seen as the epitome of an athlete,

like not just a player, but just a cool guy who seemed to just get along with people, upright

citizen, all that kind of thing.

I mean, and he's just fallen so hard because and for just the doucheous causes, he just sounds

like just that douche bag, you know, he sounds like your sister's boyfriend, you're like,

I just don't want to talk to him.

Don't bring the Thanksgiving.

Don't yeah, don't make me sit next to him, right?

Yeah.

Because he drives me crazy.

Yeah.

It's, I mean, he's saying he's saying nothing of value, but because he is who he is, he

gets a giant platform.

And he influences people and he's like, well, they're in Rogers thing.

So like, why not a current packer player and former Rogers teammate, David Baktiari,

also fire back at Kimmel, after Kimmel, fire back at Rogers saying, tell me you're on

the Jeffrey Epstein clientless without telling me you're on the Jeffrey Epstein clientless.

First of all, too long, bro, just do.

He's also, I believe since I looked for he, I think you deleted that tweet because he

probably saw that there's actionable claims there.

Yes.

At the very least, you know, press some charges.

Yes.

It doesn't go anywhere.

But why, why are you doing that, man?

Why would you say that about a person who does, I mean, because he and Aaron and Aaron are

our best buds.

So he's got to come to Aaron's defense by new friends, David.

Well, again, Aaron Rogers just go into, go in height, go and hide in a dark place for

another three days and have another cleanse.

What?

Didn't he do that not too long?

Those cleanses, he eats mud, he, I don't know, he eats mud.

I think his ex fiancee did.

She like what eat mud is there's actually a, there is a condition for that for people

who didn't Aaron Rogers for no, that's a whole super category.

But for people who ingest dirt and mud, there is a, there is an actual term for that weird.

It's not that.

Okay.

All right.

Yeah.

Greg's medical diagnosis.

I just, I don't know, I'm, I'm, I'm ferociously disappointed at this like with, with Rogers.

Yeah.

I am too.

Because just because you disagree with a vaccination, a opinion, no need to make these

claims.

And, and that's the thing is Epstein is that divisive where people will come after you

if they even think that you are a part of it.

Not everyone.

That's why, that's why Kimmel said this is put my family in danger.

Oh, absolutely.

You know, and quite frankly, there are a whole bunch of people who should not be throwing

stones because I think the bipartisan number of men who have gone on his planes to his

island is going to be shocking on both sides, on both sides.

All right.

Stay with us.

When we return, we are going to recombobulate with the one and only Dan Schafer from the

Recombobulation area.

Stay close.

This is Matt Nair on air on the Civic Media Radio Network.

And welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome to Matt Nair on Air, Jane Matt Nair with you, Greg

Buck with me.

In the studio, Calvin is on the board and our very first guest on our inaugural program,

Dan Schafer from the Recombobulation area is joining us.

Good morning, Dan.

Thanks for coming on.

Good morning.

Happy to be here.

It's the first official guest for Matt Nair on air.

I wish I wish we had a prize or some valuable crink.

You could take away, but we don't.

I feel like if we just get like a tiny bottle of champagne ahead of computer with it, I'll

just do that on my end right here.

There you are.

That would be perfect.

Matt Nair on air with guest Dan Schafer.

All kinds of possibilities, yes, sure, whatever works.

Just trying to find my value here, Dan.

If you want to watch us on the live stream, you can find us on the Civic Media Stream on

Facebook, YouTube and or Twitter.

And you can always leave a comment there as well.

We see that.

You can call or text into at 844-967-2789.

So Mr. Schafer, where do you want to start today?

Should we talk about redistricting?

Yeah, sure.

I feel like, you know, I was, I joined you guys in studio the last time I was on the show.

And I feel like it's a different world now, almost, that I'm returning to.

Not only in the name of the show, of course, but in the state of Wisconsin, we don't have

maps right now in the state because the Wisconsin Supreme Court has struck down those

maps in a, in a Friday afternoon, December 22nd ruling that just, it was just a wonderful

Christmas gift for from the liberal majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Is that not the most Wisconsin thing to happen though that they drop it the Friday of a

hot late Friday on a holiday weekend?

It just seems like this is when everything always drops.

The Friday news dump is, of course, a staple of the Wisconsin political news cycle.

And for this to come, not only in a Friday news dump, but a Friday before a holiday

news dump.

Right.

It's like, of course, this is the way it has to be.

Of course, it is.

Well, it's interesting too because we talked about it.

I know we talked about with you and we talked about, I think, with Joe Sapecki, a couple

of other people too, everyone thought at the earliest, and that was going to be very

quick turnaround.

It was going to be January this month, we were going to hear something.

So something so quick right before Christmas, I mean, it broke, I think an hour and a half,

two hours after we got off the air and we're like, okay, well, we'll see you next week

and we'll talk about it.

Well, and isn't, isn't that one of the arguments now, Dan, that the Republicans are using

is that this, this happened too quickly.

They didn't seriously look at our arguments coming from the gavelin gavelin party, sure.

Go ahead.

I think that is the same party.

Yeah.

It's very same.

The, the, the least active full-time state legislature during the pandemic is now, once

again, it's saying that they don't have enough time to do their work.

Yeah, that was one of the things that kind of dropped in, in between Christmas and New

years, was that, you know, the Republicans filed their, their challenge to the Wisconsin

Supreme Court's redistricting ruling.

I'm going to read one passage of it because I just, I found it absolutely hilarious when

I was going through it.

So this, I think it was filed on the, December 28th, I think, became public on the 29th,

but it said, this, this is from the Republican petition.

This time around, the legislative process would require all of some of that, given the governor's

commitment to vetoing any redistricting reforms, it could require time for legislators to work

across the aisle and try to override that veto.

It is not something that can be rushed over Christmas and New Year holidays.

Um, yeah.

So there's so much there, even just in that little passage, because they, these Republicans

and so rarely ever work across the aisle, uh, rarely work with the governor, uh, and

the fact that this is happening between Christmas and New Year's, well, tough luck.

There's a lot of people in this world who have to work between Christmas and New Year's.

I'm sure the lawyers who filed this, you know, hundred, some, or 66 page brief, uh, to,

to challenge this ruling, I'm sure they were compensated adequately.

Uh, so I'm not sure, uh, that, you know, that they should really be twisting themselves

and not so over over the timing of this ruling.

It's just, uh, it is, it is very Wisconsin, as we all have mentioned, and, but it's, this,

this is the way things are.

It's not like the journalists who were covering this, you know, for the daily newspapers and

all that, we had to put push pause on their stories covering the, uh, covering the latest

from this, uh, you know, this was expected for a long time, even where the day before, I

think Robin Voss was on the record, saying that he expected this ruling.

So like, yep, this, this, you know, they have plenty of time to prepare, uh, for something

like that.

Now we're headed towards, you know, a timeline where they're going to have to, uh, submit

maps, and I think less than 10 days now, I think is the, the January 12th deadline for

the initial, uh, the initial wave of maps.

So, uh, man, there's going to be a, it's, it's a discombobulating time, Jane, uh, where

can they write about it?

And it is best we can to, you can read about it eventually.

Well, this, did I paint a picture for you there just after they throw away your full

bottle of shampoo that you knew wasn't legal to have on the plane, but you're still mad

about it.

But, you know, I agree with you, though, Dan, that the thing that really grinds me about

that is there are some in who have, you know, we're lazy.

People are lazy.

They don't want to work, uh, everybody wants a free handout.

You know, pick yourself up by your bootstraps and throw yourself into it.

And, you know, I just want to say to these guys, you're a salaried employee.

That means that we can ask you to work as much over time as we need it's a, it's a, it's

a right to work.

You're also an elected employee, which means if you're not doing it, we can replace you.

Yes.

And we should, you know, nobody wants to work anymore.

Maybe we should drug test them to see if they're, you know, to receive their, the public

salary, right?

I, I, all the different hoops that they make people jump through all the administrative

burdens and all that.

Maybe we should, maybe we should see if the legislatures really, you know, getting ready

to work here.

I could absolutely get behind drug testing, our lawmakers, sir, you have giraffe tranquilizer

in you.

How did you do that?

I volunteered to do the testing.

I will run the lab tests.

I'll dedicate my life just to check it up on them and make sure they're all on the

up and up.

Yeah.

Yeah.

But I think ultimately, you know, the big picture on these maps and we, and we have talked

about this so many different times, whether it was, you know, during the race for Wisconsin

Supreme Court, I think what this ruling signifies is hope.

I think this is hope for, for a better future for the state of Wisconsin and hope that we

have maps that will more accurately reflect the electorate in the state of Wisconsin and

not be an impenetrable 60 plus seat majority for Republicans in the assembly and it's super

majority in the state Senate.

And I hopefully this will make more seats competitive when we get to election time.

And I think that with that, you know, competitive nature of this, it's about accountability.

And I think if people want a fresh opportunity to hold their legislature, legislators accountable,

boy, would this really bring that opportunity in such a new and interesting way?

And in a way that, you know, reflects the values of Wisconsin of fairness and competitiveness

and democracy and all of those different things that are, that are so important to our

governing process in the state.

And along with other states that have had map decisions come down in the past year.

So it's going to be a template for other states who are fighting for better electoral maps

as well.

I mean, I mean, other states came down, but Wisconsin was really the most, the most

focal one, focal, focused, focal.

Thank you.

The, the main one, we were the ones everyone was looking towards.

And I feel like this will be a great way to help drive that conversation in other states

then.

I would then shape ours our guest from the recombobulation area and we're talking about

the, the Wisconsin Supreme Court's decision that Wisconsin needs new maps because the old

ones are not particularly fair.

And I just want to remind folks to den that if you look at the results of the spring election

when Janet Proto say what's was elected, she was elected by a landslide.

I mean, she smoked her challenger.

And to me, that is just more evidence that this is a very bipartisan, at least among the

voters, people from both sides of the aisle really want to see fair maps because everybody

is sick of the lack of accountability.

It's not just the Democrats.

This wouldn't have, Janet Proto say what's wouldn't have been elected by this margin without

a lot of supportive Republicans.

Yeah.

Yeah.

And, you know, Daniel Kelly losing two statewide races by, by double digit margins hats

off to him for that, but, but I think what, what it really gets back to, I think there's

so many Republicans now who are saying, oh, they just want to gerrymander this in favor

of Democrats.

You just want to do the same thing that we did in Flickritten, you know, draw these districts

where there's all spiraling out of Madison and Milwaukee and all these, that's not what,

that's not what we want.

That is absolutely 100% not the goal right now is to gerrymander this in favor of Democrats.

I think given the political geography of Wisconsin, you're going to have the majority of the

time Republicans are going to be favor to win a majority of, of districts in this assembly

and Senate, but not all of the time.

Right.

And that's the difference.

Yeah.

And I think that's the way it's been for 12 plus years now where it doesn't matter.

You know, you look at 2018 when, when Democrats in the blue wave election, you know, Tammy

Baldwin won by double digits, Governor Evers won.

They won every statewide office, but they only picked up one state assembly seat and zero

state Senate seats in that year's election.

It's just, it doesn't reflect what Wisconsinites want.

And I think that's what it ultimately comes down to.

It's not, it's not about gerrymandering things in favor of Democrats.

It's, it's having maps that better reflect the state.

Well, and if it's time Republicans will win a majority, but not all of the time.

Not all the time.

It's about setting up a fair fight, at least having a fair shot instead of having things

so leaning so heavily in one direction that there's simply no possibility.

Mark from the sack is on the line.

Good morning, Mark.

Thank you for joining us.

What did you want to say real quickly?

Yeah.

Good morning.

And then the maps certainly didn't meet the constitutional requirements of being contiguous

and compact.

And I wonder if you met the standard under the Senate Coral Districts that no assembly

seat, assembly seat, I suppose districts are supposed to be split up between Senate

districts.

I mean, because the maps clearly were not in compliance with the Constitution requirements.

Fair unfair.

I don't know if we can quantify that.

But they certainly did not meet the constitutional requirements, because of the word shall in

our Constitution.

It doesn't mean should, it means it must meet those requirements.

And I wonder if in the past, if Supreme Court justices have voted that these maps were

constitutional on the past, past, were actually in on the deal and in ignoring the Constitution

requirements we have there.

Thanks for the call, Mark.

I really appreciate it's, yeah, it's, I don't know the, I'm not, I'm not a constitutional

scholar.

I wish I was.

And I know Mark from the sack knows a whole lot more about this stuff than I do.

But yeah, there are some things that are stated in our Constitution, exactly that say they

must essentially touch.

You can't be drawing these islands of voters and, and picking out who is at Leah, Leah

Vochmier, whose email was circulating all over the place about, yeah, I want this portion

of new Berlin.

And I'd like this piece of Brookfield and I like this piece over here and this little

piece over here and won't that be nice?

They shouldn't be able to, politicians shouldn't be able to, to choose their voters.

No.

Well, and, and to that contiguity argument, you know, that, not, and not every municipality

and the state of Wisconsin has is contiguous.

There are these, these different islands.

So it's going to be interesting to see, you know, how those are drawn.

But I think we've also seen Republicans say, like, oh, you're going to break up different

communities and, and stuff like that.

Well, they already do that.

Yeah.

When it's politically advantageous for them.

Like, I wrote a lot about in this most recent gerrymandor, how they carved up the city

of Wauwatosa.

Wauwatosa, one of the most democratic shifting municipalities in the state, they carved

Wauwatosa, which is roughly, you know, 55,000, 60,000, roughly this, the population of an

assembly district, they carved it up into four different assembly districts and three

different senate districts just for that one municipality.

So they're already violating their own principles.

They're saying, oh, wait, you're going to break up municipalities?

Like, yeah, you've been doing that for a long time when it's politically advantageous

for you.

Yes.

Well, it goes back to, okay, for me, yet not for the, we will see, we will see how this

plays out.

So for a turn, Dan Schaefer will still be here.

We will be recombobulating.

Stay close.

You're listening to Matt Nair on air on the Civic Media Radio Network.

Once I get strapped in the duty, wheels up and we'll be rocking, getting out of frozen

Wisconsin.

I need you to recombobulate me, I want you to recombulate me, I need you to recombulate me,

hold somebody, recombulate me.

Good morning, welcome to Matt Nair on air across the Civic Media Radio Network, Jane

Matt Nair here with you.

Greg Bogg is with me in studio live from our beautiful studio in downtown Wakashaw.

Calvin on the board and our guests from the recombobulation area, Dan Schaefer, the

one hand only, by the way, you can subscribe to the recombobulation area.

It is such an incredible deal, Dan Schaefer.

Value.

It is a value.

I, I couldn't agree more, Jane, Greg, that's great value.

Subscribe now.

We still have our holiday deal.

I think today is the last day for our 25% off holiday sale at the recombobulation area.

And if you already subscribed, it makes a great gift.

It does.

You might have some gift cards, burn in the hole in your pocket, some extra cash, and that

Christmas card from Grandma used it to recombobulate all the way through 2024.

How many press awards do you have?

Is it 9, 10,000?

10,000?

I think it is a 10.

It's 10 for the recombobulation area.

10, so I mean, you are getting multi-award winning coverage.

I mean, this is, what are you talking about people to value?

It is a huge value.

And I think one thing that you've, you've previewed, Dan, for this year, this election

year is that you actually do look at every single race in Wisconsin and break it down.

So if people have questions and maybe not everyone is as plugged into politics as, as we

tend to be.

Yeah.

And they're living their lives.

And so it's nice to be able to have one place to go to where it's here is this person

who's running in here to hear the two people running in your district.

And here's what they believe.

And here's where they differ.

Right?

You've been mobulated for you.

That's right.

And that was one of the articles that won a Milwaukee Press Club Award for Public Service

Journalism.

So there you go.

Previewing every last race on the ballot in Wisconsin State Legislature.

We're just talking about the potential for getting new maps.

If you want to understand how those races are going to play out, what those new maps are

going to mean, what the candidates are, what the stakes are going to be.

You're going to want to, you're going to want to be recombibrating with us in 2024.

Absolutely. 하고.

It's absolutely worth it.

All right.

I'm moving along David Crowley who is Milwaukee County Executive and Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier

Johnson.

You spoke, you sat down and spoke with both of them for the last couple of weeks, correct?

Yeah.

I held an extended end of year interview with the both of them, you know, both in their,

in their first terms in office, both ending what I think is a remarkable year for the city

of Milwaukee, you know, getting their finances in order, but we're finally getting the deal

with the state to, to, you know, bring on, bring about the sales tax, bring about some

new shared revenue dollars.

And for the first time in forever, Milwaukee budgets are turning the dial from cuts to

investments.

So I think, you know, we talked a lot about that reflected on the year, some of the big

issues of the year and things like that.

But now, yesterday actually was the filing deadline for local elections, for this

bring election.

You know, I always talk, oh, 2024 is an election year.

It's a presidential election year, every year in Wisconsin is an election year.

So, so we're, you know, we're coming up to see if either of those two will, will face

a formidable challenge based on what we saw from, from what was filed yesterday before

the deadline.

I think David Crowley and Cavler Johnson are going to be heavy, heavy, heavy favorites to win

reelection in the spring election.

And you know, they're only kind of nominal opposition that I think either of them will

face, a man by the name of David King is running against Cavler Johnson.

He has run, he's one of these guys who's run for a whole bunch of different offices.

And he's one of these perennial candidates who has lost, he lost for a bid for Republican

primary for lieutenant governor.

He lost in a race for a secretary of state.

He lost the race for Milwaukee common council.

I think he lost a race for Congress once, once upon a time, he must just like running

against one more.

So he's just, again, one of these guys who runs for office all the time.

So I don't expect him to bring any significant challenge.

The other candidate who is going to be potentially on the ballot for both mayor and county executive,

depending on how the signatures play out is Aisha Griffin, who ran for mayor last time.

And she has run for a variety of offices over the years.

But she filed to run for mayor.

She filed to run for county executive.

And she filed to run in two different aldermanic districts.

So I'm not quite sure how exactly that is going to play out.

But if you remember anything of the 2022 mayor's race, she was part of the primary there.

And you know, did not, did not receive a whole lot of votes.

So I don't imagine she's going to be really pushing either of the candidates.

I just think it's very amusing that she's that she's running for all of these different offices

at once.

Absolutely.

That's when you said someone's running for both the offices.

I was like, here comes Bob Donovan, because exactly, if you know Milwaukee politics, Bob Donovan,

Bob Donovan, I'm wondering though, Dan, because the new sales techs are kicking in right

this week, the new county sales tech in the city of Milwaukee sales tax.

So do you think there's going to be any blowback from constituents about this?

Do you think it's going to be a measurable impact on people's pocketbooks?

Yeah.

I think in certain cases it will be, I think some will, of course, you know, be making

their individual decisions about how and where they're going to spend their money on certain

items.

But I think overall, you know, this is, you know, this is what the city needs and what

the legislature has allowed for to stay afloat.

I saw some, you know, other suburban county leaders watching county executive Josh Schoenman,

who was commenting on the sales tax saying, hey, get out of Milwaukee, come spend your

tax dollars here.

And you know, he's somebody that was supportive of the shared revenue deal that was negotiated

to help fund this.

And then, but now that it's in place, he's just trying to exploit the political divisions

in place.

And I think what we should hope for is some regional cooperation, some regional solidarity

and say, like, hey, you know, this is a good thing for the Milwaukee and the long term.

They're going to be able to fund public safety, fund police and fire, fund their department

of public works, buses, parks, all these different things that were, they were absolutely needed

to fund by the sales tax.

Because as, you know, I mentioned interviewing the mayor, the mayor said, without the sales

tax, the outcome was a dystopian future for the city in Milwaukee.

They were going to have to basically eliminate the whole library, all of the city libraries,

let the police department in half, close all sorts of fire stations, like that would

have been the future if we didn't have the sales tax.

So I think it is, it's really unfortunate to see Republicans like the Washington County

Executive exploit those political, it political divisions of Pitting City against Suburb.

But you just think we, we just need to get past that type of, that type of person.

Absolutely.

Absolutely.

It doesn't accomplish anything.

We're all in this together, everybody.

You know, we, we all succeed, we all succeed and, and an economic engine like Milwaukee

or Madison failing would not do the state any good overall.

All right.

Dan Schaefer from the recombobulation area.

Thank you so much for joining us on this inaugural Matt Nair on air program.

We will talk to you next Tuesday if that still works for you.

Sounds great, Jan.

Absolutely.

Thank you so much.

When we return that sexy college professor from a former chancellor from LaCross, sharing

more details, that's on the way.

This is Matt Nair on air on the civic media radio network.

Good morning and welcome. Welcome to Matt Nair on Air. Jane Matt Nair with you live from

our studio and beautiful downtown Wakashaw. Greg Bach is live with me. Calvin is on the

board and you can always join us. Call or text at 844-967-2789-844-96 party. If you're watching on the

live stream, you can catch the show now on civic media on YouTube, Facebook and or Twitter. In

a case you missed it last hour, we made the announcement. It's a new year. New changes. We are saying goodbye

to our dear, dear friend, Kristen Brie and As goes Wisconsin. She has received another opportunity

that she has accepted. We're very excited for her. And we can't share the details. That is for

her to tell you. So I highly encourage you to keep following As goes Wisconsin on all her social

media's TikTok and all the places. And I know she's going to be doing some TikToks in the next

couple of weeks to clue people in as to what's happening. So it's it's all a good thing. There's no

bad feelings. Nobody's mad. I'm mad, but not about this. Why does he want it to be Greg on air?

No, I I recently went to Burger King and the Whopper used to be really big of the name Whopper

huge. It's like basically the size of a regular burger. That's what I'm mad about.

Kristen, I wish her nothing but luck and happiness. And Franky and Frankie on all good things.

Seriously, it's so much smaller now. It's a tiny. It's not a Whopper. It's like a whimper.

You should write them. You don't think I have?

You're right. Oh, good. That's a whole another that's a whole another break.

You don't know me. There's a woman who's searing her. She's now because the Reese's peanut butter

treats for Christmas, which we're supposed to have holiday decorations on them.

weren't they were not prominent enough. So now she's suing them for false advertising.

Wait. Huh? There were special Reese's peanut butter treats that came out for Christmas.

Okay. They were supposed to have Christmas decorations on them. Yeah. And this woman says

they were not suitably decorated. She couldn't recognize what the decorations were supposed to be.

And so now she is suing them for several million dollars.

It's worth a shot, Greg. You can try it with a Whopper and we'll see where that gets you.

I just want to change the name. It's called a whimper or just like the burger not

formerly known as the Whopper. Speaking of name changes, we've been taking your calls and texts

all morning long. Matt Nair on air is kind of a work in progress. We had a real quick

meeting put together yesterday. Oh my god. What are we going to call this? As things came down

somewhat rapidly, which reminds me also huge shout out to Luke Mathers, Rebecca, Brian Kelly,

Greg Bach, all the people who helped put this together in a really, really short period of time.

Rebecca Sullivan is a champion. And if you're watching the live stream, she's responsible for

the design of these new our new panels and she does all the logos and all of that stuff.

So we are really, really grateful for all of their hard work in getting us ready to launch today.

But as far as new names for the show are concerned, we'd love to hear your suggestions at 844-967-2789

texture from the 414 says fly with Jane and expand your brain. Okay. If Jane is going to open up a

dispensary, maybe, but I mean, honestly, like, come on, people, you're not even trying to. That's

we got a side gig. I'm I'm the side hustle Andrew from Maine, the 541 listen WAUK is blowing up

our lines today. He says, first of all, he says Matt Nair Bach on the air since you have been on

air before. Okay. Okay. He also said he gave his his impression of what it would be like if I

came out the king of burgers, he's like, dear bird king, Mr. Bach is back. And you better be

you better be better better better be worthy of its name. Absolutely. Another texture from the 262

suggested social truth with Jane instead of truth social. Oh, I like fly with Jane and expand

your brain. I think that is hilarious. If you have any other suggestions, we'll take them all

morning long at 844 967 2789 or you can leave them on the stream. If you're watching us on

stream yard, watch the stream yard, civic media feed, you can find us on Facebook, YouTube and

or Twitter. Do you know where else they can listen, Jane? On the civic media app. That's right.

It is it is among the best of apps. It is the happiest. It's the happiest of apps. And as we've

said before in this program, we can't tell you the civic media app is going to change the

course of your entire life for the better, but we can say it shouldn't make it worse. You can't say.

I'm under a lot of pressure. Oh, what's the pressure? Do a lot of do do. Okay. Speaking of

pressure, different kinds of prayers. Uh-huh. I know what this is going. The Milwaukee Journal

Sentinel's wonderful reporter, Kelly Meyerhoffer sat down with former UW lacrosse chancellor Joe

to talk about his secret life with his wife and their backstory. Of course, Mr.

Gao was recently fired as chancellor after it came out that he and his wife have created sex

videos, sometimes with adult film stars and put them up on porn sites. They also self-published

two books about their experiences using pseudonyms, but he was fired as chancellor,

according to the UW Board of Regents for his quote, abhorrent and reckless behavior.

And for subjecting the school to significant reputational harm.

Well, first of all, lacrosse calm down. Um, is that significant reputational harm?

I don't think so. Was he was he recruiting students to appear in films? Now, when he wasn't

also using, I don't think he was using his title or any of that. I mean, that's that was a

completely private thing to me is doing for one thing. The word abhorrent is quite an exaggeration

as far as an adjective goes. Uh, irresponsible. You could say, uh, knuckleheaded. Like it's just

dumb to do it with such a high profile position. Yes. Yes. But choose the words better because

you're also, I mean, like to me, abhorrent is is that way over the time? Yeah, exactly.

That's way over the time. And this is the thing is I've been trying to find if there was like,

you know, sometimes when people do movies or TV shows or get high profile gigs, they sign a contract

that contract has in it a morality clause or responsibility clause. Yes. I'm not sure if

chancellor has that, um, that that in it. Yeah. In his contract has something like that. And so

if he, if it doesn't, if there's nothing saying like if you don't act, if you act unbecoming or

brings bad ju-ju to the university, then we can fire you. If that's case, of course, yeah. And

yeah, he was the dumb thing to do. But also at the other than the spectrum, he has not broken any

laws. He has not done anything morally or you could argue ethically, but he's done nothing

morally wrong because moral is all subjective anyways. He and his wife engaged in consensual acts.

And at no point has anyone come out and said they have harmed us. They have abused us.

These are two people who enjoy sex, positive life. And maybe the chancellor of UW lacrosse

isn't the job for you, buddy. In fact, if anything, they'll probably make more money this year

than they ever made on it. Well, it's interesting because Mr. Gauss says in this article, and again,

this is in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. And I highly suggest that you take a look. We will get

this in our show notes after the show is over the story from Kelly Meyerhoffer sitting down

with Mr. Gauss and his wife. And he essentially said the outlay that they paid in order to start

their little side job. They've spent like $80,000 on camera equipment and stuff like that. And

that the returns that they've had have been minuscule. And the money was never the motivating

factor for them to do this anyway. Yeah. But they're going to have to make money somehow now.

Well, yes. But you would assume, I mean, he's had a pretty good gig for a pretty long time.

Yeah. You'd like to think that they've, I don't know, saved a little. I hope so. I really do.

I mean, physical responsibility is just as important as taking care of yourself while I'm in

a open relationship like that. Speaking of UW lacrosse, the lacrosse tribune scrapped its story,

naming him the person of the year, which Gauss says he can understand. What he doesn't understand

is the UW system letter he got saying he could only be on campus if he's escorted by the police

chief. Once again, he has done nothing wrong. He's not committed a crime. He's not an, he's not

an endangerment to minors, which minors, I mean, might be on the campus, but that's not this is

a campus of college kids. Gauss says in this article, it feels, it feels mean spirited. Yeah.

That's how it feels. And I agree. Yeah. I think that's, that seems completely unnecessary

to me. I hope he takes him to court for things like that. Well, he says this is a first

amendment issue, and it's his right to free speech. And that right there is what makes me wonder,

makes me ask the question, were there existing clauses and or portions of your, of your contract,

which says if you do anything that violates ethical or moral values of the university,

can you be held responsible? He does have a right to do what he wants in his personal

pride. Yeah. And, and they were doing it for 10 years, 10 years, you're telling me that in 10

years, no one stumbled upon anything or he didn't please. This feels like this is the worst

kept secret it lacrosse. Really? Yeah. There's no way that two people are engaging on, they are

putting videos out on the internet easy to find. But from what I understand, and it even says in

this article for some of those porn sites, there are hundreds of thousands of videos.

Yeah, but in 10 years, no one stumbles upon anything. I find that. Well, it's not like they were

using their real names, but they were using their faces, weren't they? Is that what people look for

and porn? First thing I always look for is the brain. When my porn search is always say brain.

Of course. Yes. Because I respect people. Jane. Of course you do.

Great brain Jane with Jane. Matt Nair. Well, keep them coming in. We're still taking your

suggestions on what you call this new show. Don't go away. They're driving again. They're back on

the road. Thank God. That's all coming up. Stick around. This is Matt Nair on air on the civic

media radio network on Wednesday. Try to change their worlds. I'll review them to your

consultations. They're quite aware of what they're going through.

Do you change your terms? Don't face the spray. Do you change your heels? Don't tell them to go

off on the elements. Do you change your terms? Don't face the spray. Do you change your heels?

Where did you shame your blabbers up to? How lexited? Don't make change me. You can't twist

time. Strange fascination. Fascinating.

Our changes are taking the base I'm blowing slow.

To to to to to change it. Don't face the spray. Do to change your heels.

Don don't face the spray. Do to change your heels.

Don't face the spray. Do to change your heels.

I said that time may change me, but I can't trace that.

Good morning. Welcome to Matt Nair on air.

Jay Matt Nair with you along with Greg Bach live in studio from downtown

Wakashan. Good morning. What's on Calvin is on the board.

And you can always check in with us at 844-967-2789.

Or if you're watching on the live stream on Facebook, YouTube and or Twitter,

you can make a comment there as well.

First day of the new show, Matt Nair on air.

We've been taking your suggestions all morning long for names.

This is a name and progress.

Nothing is set in stone at this moment. Greg Bach.

We have a couple more comments coming in West from Middleton.

Hey, can we get some fancy Brian back on the air to I miss the big guy and his

takes. I love y'all equally. But man, I miss fancy Brian.

As a matter of fact, Greg, you're going to be gone next week.

I am going on vacation going on vacay. It's like I work a lot or something.

I well, I don't. You've been you haven't had a break in a while.

I just had some breaks for Christmas in the new years and take your vacation.

I'm going to Atlanta, baby. Nice hotlanta.

Hotlanta. So when Greg is gone next Wednesday Thursday, Friday, fancy Brian,

we'll be joining me here in studio next Wednesday.

We all love Brian really looking forward to having him.

And yeah, it's going to be great. Don't be funnier than me, dude.

We got another one. Andrew for Maine is our main fan today.

Thank you, Andrew. We appreciate it. I mean, we love in the love here.

Five, four, one that's Andrew from Maine, W a UK. So he's listening to he said,

laugh at Wisconsin with Jane and Greg, the funny guy.

Oh, he's in your corner. I, you know, I, I appreciate that one.

And then Jim from Apple 10, listening to WGBW.

I'm partial to James world with G Bach.

I don't hate that. That's one. That's that's I like James.

That's a, that's some fun stuff. Yeah, I like that. Tony Zimmerman.

Tony Zimmerman on the live stream here.

We got a bunch here. Let's say we got a Wisconsin wits with Jane.

We got a James jocular junction. Nice.

The iteration. Tony nice, nice, nice. Badger banter with Jane.

And then finally, I really like Matt and there on air, though, I think it's the best.

And that is a shout out to Rebecca Sullivan. There it is.

Once again, who came up with that when we had our meeting yesterday, one other suggestion

on the text line called Greg Dick and called the show fun with Dick and Jane.

Oh, that's probably not going to. I don't like that one.

That's, that's not going to happen. Don't call me that. No, it don't, it, it's all,

all suggestions are welcome. It was about the walker wasn't it?

Cause I made fun of the opera. It might have been that's a whole other issue.

Um, coming up at 1133, I had a wonderful, wonderful New Year's day.

Really?

Because on New Year's day, they delivered a new washer and dryer.

Wow, I can't explain to you how happy this makes me.

I think that's what Bono was talking about when he was singing that song too.

It's like it's about getting new, new basements furniture, not furniture, appliances.

There it is. I almost got there. I almost got to be funny.

I don't know what the YouTube references you've never heard the song New Year's day by you too.

Okay. So there's four guys from Ireland.

They started. Okay. All right. All right. I'm just saying now he's taking shots at me.

One more eight four four nine six seven two seven eight nine eight four four nine six party.

If you ever want to join us and again, you can leave comments on the live stream as well.

Wanted to talk about this really quickly. And I think this is a great idea.

And I think we need an adult version of this somehow this year Wisconsin teenage drivers must

complete an in person road test at the DMV in order to get their drivers license,

which they had canceled since COVID. Yes. At the height of the pandemic in 2020,

they started this pilot program that allowed 16 and 17 year olds to wave that that road test

in order to get their probationary license. Yeah.

They are DMV is authorized to introduce pilot programs,

but legislative action would be needed to make such programs permanent. So that was just

to be in the interim while no one could do anything to face and you didn't want to put people

in a small car together and things like that. But they're finally going to have to be back on

the road, which I think is critical. I think that's important. I think that the

the behind the wheel as far as a schooling is more important than the actual test itself because

the test can be so stressful. Resident young person Calvin, I have a question for you.

You've been driving for a few years now when you took your drive you took a driver's test behind

the wheel. Correct. Correct. Did you have to parallel park? No. That. Okay. It's went. So when I

took the test, it was like, uh, you see what instructor you're going to get? There's a chance you

might have to. So know how, but not everyone is required to do it. Okay. Could you do it now?

Can you pair a little park? Probably not. There's new program on civic media called Greg

teaches Calvin. How to pair a little park. It's one of the great joys in the world.

We'll pair a little part. And if you can get in on the first shot, it's a it's a it's a victory

Calvin. People will high five. Yeah. Yeah. If you can back in in one shot and not have to

and not have to remaneuver, there's always going to be a dude standing outside your car going,

like making them like, come here. I never asked. Hey, keep it. Keep it going. Keep it going.

Hey, Tim, I didn't ask for your help. Uh, but that was the big thing. When I was younger,

it was the parallel park. If you hit that curb, you failed. Oh, my. That was it. You'd and don't

count on sympathy from your robot, like human giving you the driving test. No sense of humor.

Nothing from them. They have standards. Sure. They have standards. They were made me nervous. My

my lady. The lady who's helped me out just like scared me to death. Oh, yeah. But I nailed parallel

parking. Congratulations. Thank you. Well, again, I just think this is a good thing overall.

And I wish we would have some remedial courses for adults because I cannot tell you the number of

times. People don't know how to take a corner. When you're going to take a right turn. Yeah.

This is specific to right hand turns. If you're going to take a right turn,

it is incumbent upon you to move all the way over to the right to get as close to the curve as

possible to get out of the way of the person behind you and then take your right turn as opposed

to the people who sit in the lane until they're right there. And then they take up the entire lane

because they don't know how to take a corner. You should be getting close to the corner.

So I shouldn't be turning from the left lane right. That would be no. Okay. Just don't do that.

Okay. Just trying to find out things from you, Jane gets her own show and she's all sudden like,

I know driving. This is what happens when my name is finally first. And yes, I have now become

now power mad after 43 years. I'm drunk with power. I'm drunk. I'm drunk with power. Yes. And

my list of demands will be coming soon. Can I throw my Whopper thing on there on the list of

demands? Make it bigger? Make a bigger Whopper? It'll be on the second page. Yeah. Okay. When we

return, we've talked about small kitchen appliances before. Now we're going to talk about large

household appliances. I got an update on appliances for you. All right. And what is the worst

large appliance you've ever owned? We're going to take turns inventing. Stay with us.

You're listening to Matt Nair on Air. This is the Civic Media Radio Network.

I'm on the road again. The life I love is making music with my friends.

And I can't wait to get on the road again. And I can't wait to get on the road again.

It's not always easy to get on with married life. I know that you'll agree a few

of us. But no, our wife, you need a hobby or activity that you can do together as a team.

Last year we tried philosophy, but it made us argue more. And then we both went cycling till

some bits of mine got sore. It took a while for us to both conquer. Not something that fulfills

both me and her. We buy appliances. I'm so impressed. Welcome. Welcome to Matt Nair on Air.

Jane, Matt Nair and Greg Bach with you live from our studio in downtown Walker,

shot. Calvin is on the board. You can always join us. You can call or text at 844-967-2789-844-96.

Or you can watch us on the live stream. It is a different live stream.

Yes, correct. You want to watch the show. So you need to watch us now on the civic media

streams on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter otherwise you're not going to be able to find us.

Yes, we had someone reach out to us via texting Scott from St. Louis. Thank you for reaching out.

He was lost. He was lost. We found him. We found his hand and said, here's where you

watch us and your baseball team sucks. That's your personal. I mean, last season really

isn't on personal opinions. Really just. It's okay. Fine. Statistics alive. Anyway, yes,

if you want to follow us and watch the live stream because you can leave comments there as well.

Look for the civic media feed on Facebook, YouTube and or Twitter. And I would love to hear

your responses from when we start kicking this around. So on New Year's Day,

I'm I was so excited. Okay. And this tells you, I think partially how old I am that this is

what really trips my trigger. But we had a new washer and dryer delivered on New Year's day.

Can I? I did not expect first of all. What was it a present to you? Or did you order when

you were just waiting for it? No, we had ordered it. Okay. But I ordered it the day before.

Oh, and he said, oh, we can have it there tomorrow. And I'm like on New Year's day. Oh, yeah,

they're working New Year's day. And not only do you have a new washer and dryer, but you also

got a new door. So it's like all sorts of great things happening at their own airhouse. I'm telling

you because we couldn't get a new washer and dryer because we didn't have a side door. The side

door was boarded up for two months. Yeah. We tried to replace the side door when they took the frame

out for the old door. It cracked. And then the new door was the wrong size. So they couldn't put

the old door back and they had to board it up. Yeah. In the meantime, our dryer has been broken

for two and a half months. That's right. And I would have to go and I couldn't I couldn't order

a new dryer because of the way our house is situated. It has to come in the side door.

You had to go back to the old ways of just putting it online. I did. And otherwise I went to my

sisters that one time I went to my neighbors. I was so embarrassed because I needed to get this

stuff dry. So anyway, this is a big deal for me. I am delighted beyond measure. The two

delivery guys come do an amazing job. Set it up in like 40 minutes. Bing, bang, bong if they

were done front load or top load. This is different now. So the side load. They're both

they're both top load and top load and front load. So the dryer is a is a front load. Yeah.

The door is on the front. Yeah. The washer that you open the lid. My washer and dryer both

front loads. Okay. See, I had that before. Yeah. I have never had such a violent reaction to

appliances before. Then this form my former washer and dryer. All right. And I'm not going to give

you the name of it. It starts with B and ends with ash. And it's very, they're very expensive

appliances. They were the worst washer and dryer I have ever had ever. All right.

Jane. Yes. It's your first it's your first day of your show. I know. So let's just not vent

everything. No, no, no. Let's talk about the good stuff. It was a good new years. You got a new

washer and dryer. Yes. Through your new door. It's for my new door on New Year's day. I know.

It feels good. It wasn't great. I think that's something that I don't know if that comes with

home ownership or age, but like anything just, you know, that just feels I yesterday,

you know, it made me feel really good. I ran some errands. I returned some stuff from Christmas

that, you know, you know, duplicates or whatever. And then I came home and I did some laundry.

And I had a day and it was fantastic. I hung up my dog. You can accomplish some things. Yeah,

absolutely. But to my to my larger point, yes, it was a wonderful day. And I was delighted with

the delivery guys. They did a great job. You tip them. Yes, we did. All right. Because I asked

them, they don't get paid overtime on New Year's day. I don't know if they consider New Year's

Day like and it's what's a bank holiday. I was I was very that's incredibly surprised to hear

that they don't get at least time and a half on on a holiday like that. That is interesting.

So yes, we gave them a very good tip. But I am curious, what appliance did you shell out for

that was not cheap because this washer and dryer, they were not cheap. And you ended up just

despite, I have never despised an appliance to this degree of hot hatred. I don't even know.

I don't even know how to explain it. I hated it with I hated with the heat of a of a nova of

a billion sons, eight, four, four, nine, six, seven, two, seven, eight, nine, eight, four, four,

at nine, six, hatred party. Yes, eight, four, four, nine, six, party. What was the appliance that you

and your, you know, you and your spouse or your significant other, you were, I was so excited

when we got those, the B starts with the B and ends with an ash. When we first got this,

washer and dryer because that too was a front loading washer. And we had them up on the pedestals.

Those pedestals cost a lot of bodies. So we, we, we shelled out a ton for these two.

Yeah. And it was always unbalanced. The washer would always be unbalanced.

Yeah. So every time I could hear it when I was sitting in the kitchen, no, it was

I jump. So I would have to go down there. I would go down to the basement and I would hold it

because it was jumping so far away from the wall. Couldn't you put a piece of wood on one side

to balance it out? I tried that. Yeah. And the repair man guy come and try that. Okay. That

didn't work either. Well, I only have so many options. That was the other. I have a political

science degree. I can really only give you so much advice on appliances. But that was the other

thing that was so frustrating with this particular brand is no one will fix them.

Is it like, is it like a foreign car where it's, you know, you can only take it to that place

or that certified dealership? I just think it's a, I think it's a, I'm pretty sure it's a foreign

made brand. But it's not a, you know, a whirlpool, a May tag, which, which seems to me those are

much easier to get repaired because people know how to fix that stuff. Well, that's actually,

you, you, it's bringing up, I will say here, Tony Zimmerman back at us with the livestream comments.

You got to go whirlpool for the best washer and dryer combo. I used to build them since I've left

the quality may have gone down. Also, whirlpool may take are almost exactly the same parts we'd

switch out like two parts. See, and that, that makes sense to me because again, that's why everybody

can fix those because they're pretty, they're pretty common and you can interchange those,

those parts. So it's like having a BMW for a washing machine. Nobody wants to fix it. Nobody's

got the parts for it. Yeah, I, I, I, BMW, uh, uh, nah, I got nothing there. We're, we're, we're,

expect they were, well, yeah, I see thing is I have never bought, I don't mean, nothing to that

size like, but I have something that might connect when we bought the house in August of 22,

which sounds like really old now, like back in 22 when we bought the house. All those years ago.

Hey, it was just a, we were just kids. Um, one of the big concerns is that you got to get

washer, dryer, stove, dishwasher, fridge, those are the big appliance. Oh, yeah.

When we walked in the house, we looked, they were like, we love this at our real stage and said,

oh, yes, and all the appliance come with it too. We're like, and we might have to get a new dishwasher

this year. Oh, that's not too bad. That's not bad at all. And you know, it's just, I know this,

I will feel very good when we finally get our air conditioning replaced or AC or central air.

Okay, we know we have to do that. We're kind of probably going to wait one more summer,

but I know when that happens, it's going to be amazing. But yeah, that's the closest I have is when

we walked and they said, all the appliances come with it and they were all super shiny,

silvery cool. The refrigerator has a TV on it and you can see it. You don't have to open the door.

You can just see inside your fridge. Oh, wow. This motion, the opening door motion,

that's so taxing on your wrist, that carpal tunnel just gets crazy with it. You want to hurt

yourself. Thank you. You get it. So yeah, TV on your fridge. Yeah, I can see if you're at my door.

I could also just look to my left. I can see my door.

My house isn't that big. Okay. Okay. But that's the closest I have to an appliance.

But does you ever have one that you were excited to get and then it turned out to be just an immense

disappointment? Not an appliance. No, because I rented for so long and I never

didn't have to own them. No, never had and never I don't. I think in all the time I rented,

I only had a refrigerator swapped out once and I didn't really care because it's not like they

brought in the highest end. They went to, you know, Steve's refrigeration. Steve's,

Steve's, Steve's cheap appliances for landlords and got me in a refrigerator that just was a little

less sucky than the one they replaced. Well, I'm glad Tony Zimmerman has reaffirmed my decision

to go with whirlpools. Is that what you got? Yeah, we got all right. There you go. And I ran

two loads of laundry yesterday. I was ecstatic. Did you call people? I wanted to. I'm serious. It's

listen as it's as it's spinning dry. It's not going. I believe we have Samsung. In fact,

I believe we have Samsung and Samsung refrigerator and they make a little noise. They've a little

music that plays. That song literally plays when you open up. I have a Samsung wash machine

and dryer too and it plays a song. That's a ton. It's really freaked us out the first time we heard it.

It's like, it goes on for like way longer than you think it would. It'd be like, okay, that's a nice

little chime and then it keeps going and then it's like, okay. And then it goes on for like three more

seconds after you. If you shut the door immediately, but you got to get all your stuff out, it'll be

done. But let's see here, washing. I'm going to look it up because it's an actual song that they

use. It plays a classical song written by Franz Schubert. It's a Schubert. It's called D4L,

which is German for the trout. That's the song. But it's beautiful. I tell you my drawing is done.

Good to know. Yeah, but does your mother have strong feelings about larger appliances?

Um, not really as long as they work. We've had maybe three or four dryers in my life and at least

three washing machines. So we just keep them. I think the Samsung ones are nice. So hopefully

we'll make them last, but we were on refurbished ones for a couple. Okay. Which is what, yeah,

because they should last 15 years. They should last. I mean, especially with the energy

saver ones now with their warranty. I mean, the refrigerator we have has a 10 year warranty.

Oh, that's great. Yeah. I mean, so you shouldn't have to be swapping them out on time. No,

you shouldn't. But some people, but some people are like, I have to have the newest one. No, you

don't. It's a washing machine. They don't come over and I'll show you my new world pool.

Show you all the settings. It does all these things. That's what they do is like, they like,

oh, you can do all these things. I'm like, can it normally wash my clothes? Because that's

all I need. Oh, just keep talking about joy out of laundry. No, I'm not saying enjoy your laundry,

Jane. I'm here for you and your laundry adventure. I'm just saying, I don't feel like I fully

utilize all the fun options. I'm a pretty simple person. I have jeans and t-shirts and they don't

require the delicate cycle. You don't want a special soak? No, special. No, the only the only ones

that like come like come towards me are like insulting ones like heavily soil like, hey,

I just sounds mean. Sanitize. What do you think I do during the day? What are you implying? Yeah.

The Samsung has way too many buttons on it. It's like just giving the water temperature and

the load size. That's all I need. I don't need 47 different buttons. Too many options. Too many

options. Too many options. All right. Well, I feel better having gotten that off my chest.

Tony has another live stream comment before we go, before we go, Tony's never meant my biggest

disappointment on a big purchase was a carpet cleaner. I get this. I had one too terrible.

The big fancy one cleaned no better than the cheaper one. How disappointing.

Wow, wait a minute. But it is. It is disappointing. You shell out, you shell out big money for

something like the tips for that terrible washer and dryer that starts to be with a bee and ends

with an ash. Yes. Yes. Yes. So don't fight them. Rico from Rock County says he's glad that you

finally found your wonder washer. You're wonder washer. Well, if you want to share your,

which plot, which larger appliance you despise, 844-967-2789 stay with us. You're listening to

Matt Nair on Air on the Civic Media Radio Network.

Thank you so very much for joining us this morning. If you are looking for our dear friend and colleague,

Kristen Brie, you can follow her on all her socials on as goes Wisconsin. So look for her there.

If you want to watch us and join us on our stream yard, you need to go to the Civic Media channels

on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. And that is now where we are streaming live. We were taking your

calls, all kinds of things going on this morning talking about large appliances that you don't like.

And also names suggested names for our new program, which is kind of still just a work in progress.

Texture from the 414 regarding complexity of things. I have to buy a new car and I dread it.

Too many things I don't need or use. You were talking about your Samsung washer.

There's far too many functions than you ever used. You know, I totally, you know, 414,

go. My heart goes out to you because I told myself that at the end of 2024, early 2025,

I was going to buy a new car. And because my cars paid off, my school loans are paid off.

Yeah, you made a lot of progress. I mean, a lot of progress, but you know,

it's still an expensive purchase. It's, we talked about a couple months ago. I mean, you want,

you know, at my age, I want a reliable car that's going to get me from A to B, but I need a hybrid

because I drive a lot. Yes. So that puts the price of even more. And I'm looking at like spending

at least 25 grand if not more. And it's painful. It's painful. It sucks. And it's just, I just,

you know, maybe, you know, not to not to not to sour it with some political talk, but man,

maybe awesome if the state had some more transportation options and just a car to get you from

place to place. Well, there is some work going on. There's some work going on there. But yeah,

my, my listener, watch your texture from the 414. My heart goes out for you. I hope that the

new car process is as painless as humanly possible. And I hope you get a good one. My husband bought

an EV in less fit word. Yeah. And it is so complicated. There are, there's way too many things

that that thing can do that I would ever need. Yeah. Yeah. And I, and I find some of the additional

things. The mirrors automatically adjust. They, you get warnings for any little, you know,

someone's coming up on you and that just freaks you out. It freaks me out. And it really diverts

my attention to what I should be looking at when I have all of these bings and bongs and alerts

and danger and bings and bongs more about this like flying high with James placed on it. Quit it.

That was one of the, that was the one of the suggestions for, uh, for the program fly high with

Jane, which I again, that's my dispensary. And free your mind.

I was a big fan of Ford with Jane Matt in there. I like that simple. It's, it's Wisconsin.

I like that one a lot. So, um, yeah, my wife's car Bridget's car has some of the, it's not an EV

or hybrid, but does have the bings and bongs on it tells you like, hey, your tire pressure is down.

Hey, there's someone on the side. Hey, do this. Don't do this. But I like that car, but too small

for me. Little, yeah, little bit. It's an SUV. It's too small for me. It's weird. I know.

You're a tall person. I'm a, I'm a, I'm a tall man. You are a texture from the 920

congrats on the new washer and dryer Jane. I work for an insurance carrier in property claims

and I see hundreds of appliance claims a year. You will be happy to know. Whirlpool is the least

common manufacturer I see with failures and water damage claims. And if they do fail, they pay up.

Nice. That's wonderful to know. I'll keep that in mind for the day we have to replace

you can come over and do a test load any time. Okay. Thank you. Now you know,

oh, I felt when I had to take my laundry over to my neighbor's to ask her to dry it.

And it was, I know it was all socks and underwear. It's like, could this not be the worst load

to ask my, just throw a towel in there too. And just don't look at the rest of it. Yeah, just

don't look at the rest of it. Okay. Wow. Coming up tomorrow because we will be back tomorrow.

Yeah. Dr. Kristen Liarly will be here at her regular time for another public service announcement.

She ain't going anywhere. No, she is not. And then Paul Noonan will be here to talk some sports

in the second hour. We're going to have a very special guest on Friday, a range buyer,

friend, Joseph Becky, who's a political consultant. His name is Admiral Smith. And Saturday,

I think a lot of people have forgotten is the anniversary, the third anniversary of the attack

on the Capitol on January 6 of 2021. Yeah. And Admiral Smith is going to join us to talk about

the whitewashing that is going on by some to try and completely rewrite what happened that day.

Some of those people are elected officials in Washington. Yes, they are. So I think that's going

to be a really, really interesting conversation. And I hope that you will be able to join us for that.

Please join us. Come on back. We're in a good time today, Jane. Good for show.

Thank you. Thank you, Calvin. Thank you, Greg. Thank you to everybody for who called and listened

and texted and commented on the live stream. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity

for a person of my age. A person for a person of my age. It's rare to have a chance like this,

you boys. I don't know where you're going with that one. I just thought I'd throw on there.

No, but it's, it's great. I think you're going to, I think you've already been doing a great job

for the past few months. We're going to have even more fun. We'll see where 2024 takes us.

Calvin, are you ready for the ride of your life? I'm always ready to see. And it doesn't get

much more excited than Calvin. I'm telling you, I mean, that's everything you need right there.

Right there. So, you know, thank you for listening. Thank you for texting. Thank you for calling.

Couldn't do it out. Yeah. Absolutely without you. We, we are nothing. And as I said, the last

couple of weeks, we hope you find some joy today and you have the chance to share it. We have news

coming up next. So don't go away followed by the wonderful Todd Alba show. You're listening to

the Civic Media Radio Network.

Yeah, you're playing the ball, but I can't keep your sight good.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So where do you see?

Thank you for playing the ball, but I can't keep your sight good.

Thank you for playing the ball, but I can't keep your sight good.
