We got a big home football game tomorrow night.
We got Ridley coming up here Friday night.
They're going to be playing after the athletic complex versus our Eagles.
It's going to be seven o'clock, so we can tell you about that right away.
Then we've got volleyball over at Washburn tomorrow night.
So we got a couple of things happening.
Cross country heading over to Wausau on Saturday and volleyball headed dispenser.
So a lot of volleyball action in the next couple of days.
And we have football coming up again tomorrow night at home and cross country at Wausau.
On Monday, we've got our JV football at Rip Lake and on Tuesday volleyball at home versus Prentice.
So quite a bit going on on the varsity sports side.
We got a few things too for Schwab.
Again, we can tell you about on the middle school side.
We've got middle school girls basketball at Drummond tonight at 5.45.
And then middle school girls basketball at home versus Washburn tomorrow night at 5.
We've got our Schwalmingen middle school girls on, they're going to be home, sorry, they're going to be home on Monday night versus Ashland at 5.
So a few things happening there.
On Tuesday, we've got our Schwannigan Middle School football heading over to Rib Lake.
So quite a bit happening.
And while we're talking about the middle school up at our North Campus, next week on Tuesday, the Red Cross is doing a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m.
Once again, Red Cross doing a blood drive at our North Campus from noon to 6 p.m.
So we encourage people to donate.
Couple of happenings at the high school.
We had our juniors heading over to Rhinelander next week for an education fair.
We got a homecoming week coming up the week of October 28th through October 2nd.
So what's going on with that?
We end our midterm on the second hard to believe grade.
That's already here.
Very important district wide this Friday, so tomorrow.
We've got picture retakes from 8 to 10 at our south campus.
and in the afternoon at the North Campus.
So, once again, picture retakes, 8 to 10 a.m.
South Campus, afternoon at the North Campus.
A couple of things happen at Park Falls Elementary.
They are still looking for POP tabs this year.
So, they are supporting the Ronald McDonald House with those.
So, save your POP tabs, give them to a Park Falls Elementary student and send them on in.
Coming up next week, towards Thursday and Friday, we've got the Lions Club in there.
annual ice cream and of course we want to encourage folks to join the Schwarmagen Parent Teacher Organization and we talked about that last week but I'll just mention again CPTO at csdk12.net and they can send an email and ask about that organization.

A school is a really cool thing when you look at it.
It might be one of the best things that we as the human race have accomplished are healthy and robust school systems where they do exist.
And I think local communities like Park Falls, Glidden, smaller towns probably do it better than it's really possible right now in the larger cities.
That said, we go any further into that topic and we're just going to start arguments and I'll be arguing with myself.

So we've got you.
We had you scheduled originally yesterday, but as I like to say with reality radio, we are scheduled to talk to the busiest people in the community.
So every once in a while, a phone call or a guest doesn't end up here, but I'm really glad you rescheduled because I certainly have some questions.
And I think a lot of other people will too about the hands off our public lands.
rally that you're here to talk about, correct?
Yes.
Now, I mentioned earlier this morning that with current news topics, with things like the boundary waters, even with things like the rules regarding ATV trails and how they interact with public lands, there was a couple of topical things that kind of came to mind.
And I didn't want to put any words in your mouth, but I think it's probably fair to guess those are relevant topics for the rally.
Certainly among them, yes.
Give us the basics, if you will.
What is hands off our public lands?
Well,
Obviously the government right now is trying to either sell off or allow access to public lands that, you know, we're not in favor of.
They're slashing the budgets of things like the Forest Service.
This is not hidden in the right direction
and I've seen even mentions of how national parks will be overseen There's already been changes to those and I mean that was even going back to President Trump's first term There were things related to the National Park Service and things like that So fair to say those are the kinds of things that you're basically responding to correct absolutely So what is the what is the mechanism of action?
This sounds perhaps like a traditional picket protest, but what else is the group up to?
Well, we thought as long as we were going to be meeting that we would also try to help the community in a couple of ways.
One will be collecting food donations for the Lord's cupboard.
And another we've got a whole effort to try to relieve medical debt for people that need it in the state.
So we're collecting funds for that.
It's mostly run through Act Blue, which is an online site that collects money.
And so that'll provide a little bit of oversight and regulation perhaps to it.
And of course, regulation in a different form is the exact question.
That's usually how it's being put forward is to relax regulations, which will allow certain entities to exist or act in a way that they see fit a little bit more freely, whereas
previous administrations for decades past have been
Well, allegedly more restrictive in ways.
But as anybody who's looking, I think, at topics knows if you're going to benefit one group, you're probably going to be it's almost like a zero sum game in order to help one person you're borrowing from somebody else to do so.
And it sounds like the point of the hands off our public lands rally is to preserve the preservation efforts, if you will.
Do I have that at least somewhat in order?
I think so.
We'd like conservatives to conserve for a change.
Because it seems like they're going in the opposite direction.

And all you really have to do is show up.
You can bring a sign.
We're certainly not just restricting this to just the public lands things.
I mean, people are kind of ticked off about a lot of things right now.
So they can protest
It'll be right at the US Forest Service kind of across the street from where we are right now.
It's Saturday, so they're not open then we won't be Interfering with their business exactly exactly so
plenty of parking there
Well, well, I think that that covers most of the basics.
Basically, you guys are a group who disagrees with the current policy trends as relates to public lands, including trails, national forests, national parks.
Basically, if it's a publicly owned land resource, you guys don't necessarily like the decisions that are being made right now.
Fair characterization.
Very much so.
Yes, I don't like putting things in nutshells because as anybody knows, you must shear away detail in order to do so.
But
if anybody's got questions on those details, and even if they want to call and have a disagreeable but positively disagreeable conversation, that's one thing that I'd like to see more is productive disagreement.
The flavor of it that I'm told used to be quite common, that like, hey, we don't...
We don't agree on everything, but we're still neighbors and we still act that way That's that's the goal right productive disagreement where disagreement exists.
You can disagree without being disagreeable
I like that very much.
I think we've got this Well, there was there was somebody who put it recently that there's too much professional wrestling in politics these days and without knocking pro wrestling I don't think kayfabe for those who are aware has any part in leadership I think I think all of us can agree with that some some some some
I don't know, some genuine approaches and good faith efforts and...
If you're name-calling the people you disagree with, how hard are you actually trying to get along with anybody at that point, right?
That's something that, again, at a basic level, I think anybody of any political bent can probably agree with that.
And then it's just, who deserves to be name-called and why?
Well, then all of a sudden, we're off in all kinds of unproductive directions.
But no, I appreciate any good faith effort to address that, what you disagree with, because we're people.
We're going to disagree.
There is over 330 million of us in this country now.
And I think another thing a lot of people would agree with that there's more interest in
outrage and emotional reaction and less interest in keeping us informed perhaps than before.
I may or may not have gone on a mini rant myself this morning.
I try not to do that, but I mean, hey, they want me to be emotional.
I'll be emotional sometimes.
But I think if we're going to open that fire hose, we better point it at the fire instead of the other people in the same position as me.
At the end of the day, I know for a fact there's people who want me to dislike.
People I have a lot in common with.
Sure, we vote differently, but what does that actually mean?
How far does that actually put us apart?
Because I hear it more and more often.
You can't talk to them.
And them is all kinds of groups, depending on who you're hearing say that, but you can't even reason with those people.
Those people are your fellow Americans and the people who you vote alongside and who you share your grocery trips with.
And, you know, I sit there in a Walmart parking lot and I think, hey, we park within the lines.
We get along just fine when we must create order in these kinds of circumstances.
And wow, it worked for decades.
So would you say that the hands off our public lands is hoping to return to that kind of
thing through peaceful disagreement.
I don't want to put words in your mouth, but it's the vibe I personally get.
Well, I certainly hope so.
Yes.
Fair enough.

And yes, it is politically relevant.
But that doesn't mean you have to feel about it the way you're told to feel about it.
I'd love to encourage people who do disagree with Steve to to talk to him about it.
I can't think of anybody better to have that conversation with not to
not to overcomplement or wax poetic at all, but just, no, I've got great admiration for those who are willing to have good faith conversations about people who fall in different groups and different conclusions.
Because, I mean, let's face it, we're all from the Northwoods.
We often reach different conclusions with the same info, the same origins, and a lot of the same motivations.
And we focus really hard on those differing conclusions rather than those shared origins.
I think it's time we return to focusing on that which we have in
And I think of years ago an ex-girlfriend of mine asked you seem comfortable talking to people like asking for the time and hey How are you guys doing strangers total strangers and why why can you talk to people because they're people?
Hopefully you don't need more than that.
I'd like to return to that.
I'm told it's possible.
I'm told it used to be that way.
I'd love to see it for future generations I think that's one of the best ways we can contribute simply by sharing our opinions and how we got there in good faith with those who've reached different conclusions Steve Thank you so much for giving us some time once again anything to circle back to before we wrap up together today
