Saturday night we will be hitting the airwaves with hits following State Championship High School wrestling. WRCO has been broadcasting individual wrestling finals since the early 1970’s. I used to tape matches for wrestlers that I knew. I would have the cassette recorder handy and when I heard my cousin Mike Nee taking the matt I would hit record. Later friends and classmates like Mark Fosterling or Terry Manning would get a best of tape from me when the tournament was over. During my wrestling career, I never made it past taking 5th place in the 6th grade wrestling tournament. That is why I eventually went out for basketball! One of the few high school wrestling movies is Vision Quest. That is a film that came out in the mid-80’s and has been a bit forgotten. Like most films from that era, it had a cool soundtrack with artists such as Journey, Red Rider, and Madonna. The only other wrestling movie I can think of is The World According to Garp which featured the lead character (played by Robin Williams) as a wrestling coach.

Saturday night Those Were the Days will follow what we hope will be several championships for area high schools. I will be flashing back to this weekend in 1975. The year of the movie Jaws, the fad of Pet Rocks, and the Betamax home recorder was released by Sony. We will feature songs that will take us back to those polyester days. Stay with us for Those Were the Days following high school wrestling Saturday night. We will not be taking your requests during the program. That feature will return next weekend. Keep checking this blog for news about future shows and exciting stuff during our 40th anniversary year. Those Were the Days, my friend.
