First Degree Reckless Homicide conviction in connection with October death

In October of 2024, sixty-five-year-old Daniel Welsch was found dead in his home in Prairie du Chien. 

Jessie Jay Slaughter, 40, of Lancaster was arrested, and initially charged with 1st-Degree Intentional Homicide, Slaughter has now been convicted of 1st-Degree Reckless Homicide, after entering a plea of no contest.

Slaughter has been sentenced to 25 years in prison, followed by 15 years of extended supervision.  Slaughter cannot be housed in the same facility as Christopher Welsch, who is currently imprisoned for aggravated battery.
