WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WFHR / WIRI) – Multiple meetings took place this week about data centers in Wisconsin Rapids. Since then, the data center public hearing is canceled. It was scheduled for May 4, at City Hall.

Local leaders were in attendance at these meetings. The first took place at WRAMS on April 29, organized by the South Wood County Neighbors for Responsible Development. It featured comedian Charlie Berens and other knowledgeable guests. WFHR attended and reported on the event.

On April 30, another informational session took place at B’s Tap House with Midwest Renewable Energy Association.

The City issued a press release on April 30, announcing the deferment of the public hearing. The press release included links to the Conditional Use Permit application materials and the adopted City ordinance regarding data centers.

“In a democratic, market-based system, it’s essential that all potential businesses have access to a transparent and equitable review process,” stated Mayor Matt Zacher in the press release. “We also have an obligation to maintain ordinances that safeguard residents’ quality of life and to thoughtfully address the concerns they share with us. Taking additional time to distribute and review information regarding the CUP, as well as to facilitate a public listening session, allows us to meet that obligation.”

The release goes on to say, “…the City will schedule a listening session to provide project information and respond to questions. The date and time have not yet been determined.”
