Sauk County EMA warns Wisconsin River Extreme High-Water Levels and Flooding
*Information provided via Sauk County EMA press release
Excessive rainfall and projected forecast through the weekend may cause flooding that could affect cabins and trailers southeast of Wisconsin Dells along Levee Road, Van Hoosen Road, Indian Trail Parkway and the boat launch, Fish St, Ingebretson Road, Sherri Linn Dr and Norway Drive.
As water approaches structures on rivers edge, water from the Wisconsin River backs into Hulburt Creek causing floodwater to affect the backyards of some businesses in Wisconsin Dells along Highway 13 east of I 90. Water approaches the intersection of Indian Trail and County Rd A. High water levels can also affect other rivers, streams and tributaries connected to the Wisconsin River.
People living in any low-lying areas near the Wisconsin River need to take appropriate action, which may include relocating. If you know anyone residing in these areas, please contact them to make sure they are aware of the situation. You can monitor the river levels by clicking on the following link to the National Weather Service (NWS) Website River Gauge:

High-water conditions create extremely hazardous situations on the Wisconsin River. Recreational use of the river is not recommended, as it could lead to loss of life.
Sand and sandbags are available right of the entrance to the Sauk County Highway Shop located at 617 Linn Street, Baraboo 53913. Bring a shovel and truck or trailer to haul them.
ROAD CLOSURES are listed on the Sauk County Website at https://www.co.sauk.wi.us/highway . Do not attempt to drive through standing water on roadways. If you come across a roadway that is covered with water that has not been closed/barricaded, please contact the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center at 608-356-4895 to report it.
Do not attempt to drive through water on a roadway. As little as six inches of moving water can sweep a car off the road. TURN AROUND DON’T DROWN!
This Office, in coordination with other public safety agencies, will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates. Keep cell phone batteries charged and consider a weather radio. Should you have additional questions related to this release please contact Sauk County Emergency Management at saukema@saukcountywi.gov
