RICHLAND COUNTY, Wis. — Local officials are issuing a reminder to all Richland County residents about the rules and requirements for operating ATVs and UTVs on designated routes.

According to county guidelines, all ATV and UTV operators must be at least 16 years old, must hold a valid driver’s license, and are required to carry proof of insurance for any machine they operate on an approved route.

In addition, any operator born after January 1, 1988 must possess a valid Wisconsin ATV Safety Certificate. The certificate must be issued by the state and carried while riding.

ATV/UTV routes in Richland County are open year‑round, with permitted operating hours running from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

County officials say the reminder is part of an ongoing effort to keep riders safe and ensure compliance with state law as trail use increases with warmer weather.
