River Valley opened the Southwest Conference with an 8-1 win at Richland Center on Friday. The Blackhawks scored a run in the first, 2 in the second, 4 in the 3rd, and 1 in the 4th inning on their way to the win. Senior pitcher Quincy Blakely led the way with a 7 inning complete game win from the mound. He struck out 7, walked 3 and gave up 3 Richland Center hits. Tyson Luther had 2 hits and scored twice to lead the offense. Jordan and Jayden Gauger, Owen Jones, and Keegan Heiser all had hits as the Hawks improved to 2-3 on the season for first year head coach Matt Bakkum.

For the Hornets, Brady Dosch, Abe Bosworth and Clay Johnson all hit safely. Bosworth scored a run on a wild pitch in the 4th inning. Isaac Gald worked the first 2 and 1/3 innings striking out 2, walking 3, and giving up 4 hits. Finn Lemke finished the game and struck out 5, walking 2 and giving up 2 hits.

Following the 8-1 win, River Valley will prepare for a non conference game at home against De Soto on Monday. Richland Center will continue to search for its first win next Thursday when they host Prairie du Chien.
