Hornet softball team picks conference opener victory

The Richland Center girls softball team won the conference opener 6-0 over visiting River Valley on Thursday. The Hornets scored 5 runs in the 3rd inning led by back-to-back doubles from Kyree Fischer and Jaycee Gander. Leading batters in the game were Morgan Kleppe had 2 hits, Gander had 2 doubles, Ava Martin was 1 for 2 with a double, Ella Clements scored twice as the Hornets improved to 3-0 overall.

Sophomore pitcher Kyree Fischer had another great performance as she struck out  17 Blackhawks. The Hornets will play at De Soto in a non-conference game tonight before returning to the conference on Tuesday.
River Valley had one hit with a 3rd inning bunt single from Brooklyn Stokes. Maizy Strobush started pitching and gave way to Ashlyn Stokes in the 3rd frame. She gave up just one Hornet run the rest of the way. Ella Myers was strong defensively at first base. The Blackhawks fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the league. They will play in a triangular at La Crosse Logan on Saturday.
