Hornet softball team picks conference opener victory

The Richland Center girls softball team won the conference opener 6-0 over visiting River Valley on Thursday. The Hornets scored 5 runs in the 3^rd inning led by back-to-back doubles from Kyree Fischer and Jaycee Gander. Leading batters in the game were Morgan Kleppe had 2 hits, Gander had 2 doubles, Ava Martin was 1 for 2 with a double, Ella Clements scored twice as the Hornets improved to 3-0 overall.

Sophomore pitcher Kyree Fischer had another great performance as she struck out  17 Blackhawks. The Hornets will play at De Soto in a non-conference game tonight before returning to the conference on Tuesday.
River Valley had one hit with a 3^rd inning bunt single from Brooklyn Stokes. Maizy Strobush started pitching and gave way to Ashlyn Stokes in the 3^rd frame. She gave up just one Hornet run the rest of the way. Ella Myers was strong defensively at first base. The Blackhawks fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the league. They will play in a triangular at La Crosse Logan on Saturday.
