The Hillsboro Public Library and the Hillsboro C.A.R.E.S. have joined to start the Hillsboro Community Theater. Members have been working with a group of focused children ages of 7 to 15 to bring the production of to ‘The Enchanted Book Shop’ by Todd Wallinger to life.

This comedic mystery takes place in a Bookshop owned by a young nervous book shop owner named Margie. The Book Fairy brings various book characters to life in the evenings. These characters are not to be seen by humans. It takes a turn when some underhanded jewel thieves run a scam that somehow comes to a head in the book shop.

There are 24 characters with one understudy that make up the cast of this play. There are also several other ‘backstage or scene’ roles essential to make the performance come alive.

The character list includes: Anne Wipf as Margie; Olivia Winchel as Bombalurina; Phoebe VandeHei as Mom; Kanoah Smith as Timmy; Madeline Winchel as Robin Hood; Peter Rauchle as Tom Sawyer; Ulysses Issacs as Sherlock Holmes; Adel Bartovics as Toto; Margo McDonough as Dorothy; Tennysen Hines as Heidi; Emily Kirkpatrick as Pollyanna; Gemma Dunek as Book Fairy; Abigail Kirkpatrick as Lady In Red; Dorothy Smith as Fagin; Miles Wipf as Long John Silver; Lyla Lockington as Officer Ketchum; Eva Wipf as Fingers; Abigail Kirkpatrick as Eddie; Padraig Smith as Doctor Doolittle; Adalyn Kiel as Queen of Hearts; Levi Rauchle as Frankenstein; Cora Davison as Wicked Witch of the West; and Tassea Dunek as Hopalong Cassidy.

Two performances of ‘The Enchanted Book Shop’ will be held Wednesday (April 8) at 7:00 and Sunday (April 12) at 2:00 in the Hillsboro High School gymnasium. Free will donations will be accepted at the door. In addition, there will be a bake sale at intermission. The donations will be used to fund future plays and theater for the Hillsboro Community.
