Over the weekend of March 27, Sauk County Sheriff’s Office deputies made eleven impaired driving arrests. Two of those arrests were sixth offenses, and one had a minor passenger in the vehicle at the time of arrest. One impaired driver was stopped traveling over 120 mph. Since the start of the year, Sauk County has recorded 24 impaired driving crashes, seven of which resulted in injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office is part of the Sauk County Highway Safety Task Force which also includes the Baraboo Police Department, Reedsburg Police Department, Lake Delton Police Department, and Sauk Prairie Police Department. The task force uses Impaired Driving Grant funds to support additional patrols aimed at identifying and targeting impaired driving and reducing impaired driving related crashes. The grant also increases public awareness by reminding people of the risks and long-term consequences of driving under the influence. Together, these efforts are part of a broader push to reduce injuries, eliminate impaired drivers, and make Sauk County roads safer.

The Sheriff’s Office and Sauk County Highway Safety Task Force will continue increased impaired driving enforcement as well as partnering with local organizations to promote responsible choices to reduce impaired driving throughout Sauk County. Grant-funded Impaired Driving Enforcement patrols will run through September.
