WAUTOMA, Wis (WAUH)- Winnebago County Sheriff John Matz announced Friday that he won’t seek re-election this November.
Matz has been with the Sheriff’s Department for 36 years including four terms as sheriff, but he says he’s ready for “the next chapter of my personal and professional life.” He says those years with the agency have been one of the greatest honors of his life.
Sheriff Matz says he’s committed to completing his elected term, fulfilling all of his duties and ensuring a smooth transition for whoever wins November’s election. He endorsed Captain Darin Rice of the Sheriff’s Office, calling Rice a “proven and dedicated leader who will advance it in many ways.”
Last month Green Lake County Sheriff Mark Podoll announced he would not seek another term after 44 years in law enforcement, the past 20 years as Sheriff.
