OSHKOSH, WI—(WISS)—Men’s soccer is coming back to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (UWO)!

UWO Assistant Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics Darryl Sims and Chancellor Manohar Singh announced the addition of men’s soccer to the Titans’ sports program at a press conference on Monday.

“This truly is a red-letter day! I am excited and proud to share that, effective immediately, men’s soccer is returning to UW-Oshkosh!” said Sims.

Recently, UWO has made many cuts to staff and programs to address and eliminate an $18.5 million deficit. UWO Chancellor Manohar Singh said now is the time to invest.

“It makes financial sense to invest. I promised–when I was hired, I was given the mandate to build enrollment and be financially sustainable,” said Singh. “And I can tell you that the numbers in terms of enrollment will translate themselves to financial investment being reported with a significant return on investment.”

Men’s soccer will return to the pitch and the Titans’ sports schedule in Fall 2027. Sims said the search for the third head coach in program history begins immediately, allowing for a full year of recruiting. And allowing the coach to create a competitive schedule.

UWO joins six other Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) schools, 11 Universities of Wisconsin System schools, and 406 NCAA Division III men’s soccer programs across the country.

Titans’ Men’s Soccer History

“Men’s soccer has had a proud history at UW-Oshkosh,” Sims said. “And today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter.”

According to information provided by UWO, the men’s soccer team posted just one losing season in its first 26 seasons. That season was its inaugural season in 1984.

Since then, the Titans posted a 423-122-55 overall record. They won the WIAC regular-season championships in 2010 and 2014. Advanced to 14 NCAA Championships, reaching, at least, the second round 8 times, including one quarterfinal appearance and four trips to the semifinal round.
