Assumption senior breaks a record in basketball

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WFHR / WIRI) – There is a new all-time scorer for the Assumption Boys Basketball team.

In the nonconference game against Laona-Wabena, senior, JT Schlaefer hit a three-pointer right after halftime to move to the top spot in the history books as he scored 21 points in the game and moved his career point total to 1,408.

The former record was set in 2002 by Ryan Klein when he scored 1,403 points.

There are currently 10 members of the 1,000- point club in the Royal’s Boys history books.

Riverkings thaw Freeze

The Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings continued their winning ways as they swept the weekend series with the Fresh Coast Freeze over February 6 and 7 with scores of 8-3 and 9-1.

Rapids will be playing three games this weekend as they play a pair of contests at the Steele County Blades over Feb. 13 and 14, while playing its final road game of the regular season at the Northwest Express on Feb. 15.

The Riverkings have struggled with the Blades this year dropping the two previous games by scores of 5-3 and 2-1 in OT, but have had success against the Express, winning three of the four games they have played with scores of 5-4, 3-2, 6-5 while losing 5-3.

Seahawks win Super Bowl

For the second time in franchise history, the Seattle Seahawks are world champions after winning Super Bowl LIX.

The Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots 29-13 in Santa Clara, California on February 8.

Seattle will now play in the opening game of the 2026-2027 season on Thursday, September 10 against a team yet to be determined.

Pitchers and Catchers report

The 2026 MLB season is about to begin with pitchers and catchers reporting to their teams between February 10-13 with entire teams returning approximately a week later.

Spring Training games begin on Feb. 20 with Opening Day slated for March 26.
