Riverkings home again after another strong weekend

The Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings earned a pair of wins over the Minnesota Blue Ox last weekend to further strengthen its lock on the No. 2 spot in the USPHL North Division standings.

Rapids defeated Minnesota 3-2 on Friday, January 30 with the game-winning goal coming with 1.6- seconds to play in regulation while the Riverkings earned a 7-0 victory on Saturday, Jan. 31 to sweep the regular season series with the Blue Ox.

Rapids will be home over Friday and Saturday, February 6 and 7 when they host the Fresh Coast Freeze with puck drop at 7:00pm both nights.

The Riverkings have defeated the Freeze both times they played this season with victories of 6-3 and 6-4.

Winter Olympics begin

The Winter Olympics will be returning to action in the coming days with opening ceremonies beginning on Friday, February 6 and running until Feb. 22.

Italy is the host country with the host cities being Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

This is the third time that Italy has hosted the winter games with the other times being 1956 in Cortina d’Ampezzo and in 2006 in Turin.

Events begin competition on Thursday, Feb. 5.

Playoff Brackets are coming

High School playoffs are coming, and the bracketing process will be coming out over the next few weeks.

Boys and Girls Hockey will be announced on February 8, with Girls Basketball on Feb. 15 and Boys Basketball on Feb. 22.

In that time, Wrestling will have Individual Sectionals on Feb. 14 and Team Sectionals on Feb. 21.

Gymnastics Sectionals will be Feb. 26-28, while Boys Swimming will be Feb. 13.
