
Richland Center lost a heartbreaker on a buzzer beating shot in boys’ basketball
Richland Center lost a heartbreaker in boys basketball Tuesday night. The Hornets lost to St. Ambrose Academy 55-53 on a buzzer beater. The game was close all night.
A lead of 8 was the greatest advantage all night and that was held by the Hornets in the first half. They were up 32-30 at halftime. The Hornets last lead was 51-50 with 1:37 left. The Guardians Isaac Moreland made a 3-point basket to put the visitors up 53-51 before Jayden Shoepp tied it with a 2 pointer. St. Ambrose had the ball out of bounds on the baseline with 4.7 seconds left. A pass from Nathan Pietrzykowski to the weak side of the lane caught Nathan Hebert who laid in the ball at the buzzer for the win.
The Hornets were led in scoring by Jayden Schoepp with 16, while Liam Fingerson added 15. Others in the scorebook Tuesday night were Deakyn Heisz with 8, Kyzan Schwichtenberg and Brady Dosch who both made 6, while Abe Bosworth and Connor Stoltz who each had 2. Richland Center made three 3 pointers and went 4 for 11 from the line.
The Gaurdians were led by Damien Hebert with 20, and Adam Sturm scored 11. They made 7 three pointers and went 2 for 5 from the line.
Richland Center won the JV 1 contest 55-37 over St Ambrose.
Following the 55-53 loss, the Hornets are now 4-8 and are scheduled to host Platteville on Friday night. St. Ambrose is now 12-2 and they will face Lake Country Classical Academy at FiServe Forum on Friday afternoon.
