Despite a halftime lead, RC drops conference game

Prairie du Chien won a Friday night girls basketball game 49-43 over Richland Center.

It was a cold, wild, winter, night outside, however, the action inside heated up with the teams exchanging leads. The Hornets led 20-18 at halftime and had a 9-0 run that ended early in the 2nd half.

The team led by 8 before the Blackhawks took a lead for good with around 8 minutes to play.

The Hornets kept it close before losing by 6 in the league game.Richland Center was led in scoring by Ella Clements with 13, Kylie Burns added 9, Jori Schultz and Ellavy Weiss both had 6, Taylor Wertz scored 5 points, Ava Martin made a 3 point basket, and Addie Board had one point. Richland Center had 6 three pointers with Kylie Burns making 3 of them. The team was 5 for 13 from the line.

The Blackhawks were led in scoring by Claire Kennedy who had a strong performance leading all game scorers with 26. She made three 3 pointers as did Camryn Knapp who ended with 9 points. Prairie du Chien was 7 for 13 from the line.

Following the 49-43 win, the Blackhawks are now 1-4 in the Southwest Conference and 2-9 overall. Richland Center continues to search for its first league win after 5 losses.

They are 3 and 14 overall. They will travel to Lancaster on Thursday night. Prairie du Chien will host Cuba City Tuesday.
