WESTBY, Wis. (WRCO / WRCE) – The Richland Center girls basketball team lost at Westby Friday night.  The Norse took the season opener 51-31 with a strong outside presence. The hosts hit six three pointers on the way to the 20 point win. They pulled away from a close score in the first half to lead 26-10 at the break. 

The Hornets were led in scoring by Kylie Burns with 10 points. She was 7 for 8 from the free throw line. Ellavy Weiss added 8 points, Ava Martin and Ella Clements each totaled 5 points, Taylor Wertz scored a 2 point basket, and Addie Board had one point.  Burns and Martin each had a 3 point basket. Richland Center was 9 for 17 from the free throw line.

Westby was paced by Alex Wang (wong) with 13 points, Katelyn Benish had 9,  Natalie Larson and Raegen Stenslien both had 8, McKenna Jothen added 6, Haidyn Thurin totaled 5 points, and Elsa Swiggum had a 2 pointer. Stenslien and Jothen both made 2 three pointers.  The Norse were 7 of 9 from the line.

The Hornets did not play a JV game on Friday night.

Following the 51-31 win, Westby is now 1-0 on the new season. They will face Brookwood on Monday.  Richland Center is now 0-1 and they will play at Boscobel on Tuesday night.
