Riverdale runs past Ithaca/Weston coop in GBB

ITHACA, Wis. (WRCO / WRCE) – The high school girls basketball season began Tuesday night across Wisconsin. At Ithaca, it was the inaugural game for the new Ithaca/Weston coop as they hosted Riverdale for a non-conference game. The Chieftains prevailed 57-49 in a very competitive game.  

Riverdale led by 8 in the first half before Ithaca/Weston came back to tie the game at 26. Senior Macy McCay hit a basket at the end of the first half and the Chieftains went to halftime with a 28-26 lead. She would lead Riverdale in scoring with 17 for the game. In the second half, the Chieftains lead grew to 12 points before Ithaca/Weston pulled to within 4 in the last 6 minutes. Riverdale was able to hit some key shots near the end to log the win. Senior Allie Goplin had 15 points including three 3 pointers.  Bailey Harris added 8, Lily Barr had 6 including two 3 pointers, Haley Schneider had 4 points, Jocelyn Adams had a three pointer, and Mallory and Kaitlyn Meiss each had 2 points. The Chieftians were 5 for 11 from the line.

Ithaca/Weston was led by Junior Jacey Maxwell with a game high 20 points. Jenna Hasse and Kelsea Coleman each put in 7 points, Maylee Pluemer, Brooklyn Dickey, and Faith Studnicka all had 4, and Aspen Young scored the teams only 3 pointer. I/W was 10 for 19 from the free throw line.

Riverdale won the JV game 53-4 over Ithaca/Weston in the opener.

Following the 57-49 Varsity win, Riverdale will prepare for its home opener against Seneca on Thursday. Ithaca/Weston will play the home opener at Weston high school on Thursday night when the team hosts Hillsboro.
