Green Bay school board approves budget and schedule alignment
The budget got a unanimous vote, while aligning all four high school schedules did not.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WGBW) – The Green Bay Area Public School District Board of Education met on Monday to take up the budget, and to decide other changes for the next school year.
Board approves schedule change alignment
Students at Green Bay’s four high schools will have the opportunity to take longer classes next school year, but will see shorter lunch periods.
The Green Bay school board approved the schedule change Monday night after debating the topic for an hour.
Principals from all the high schools were at the meeting. Some had concerns over shortening students advisory periods. Others at the meeting didn’t like the idea of shortening students’ lunch periods. In the end, the board voted only to align all four high schools with the same schedules. Two board members voted no.
It comes amid a budget process
The vote was unanimous, though, to approve the budget for the 2025-2026 school year.
That budget does include a $3.5 million deficit, which will be covered by a fund balance— money set aside to plug holes in the budget.
Angie Roble, chief financial officer for the district, says that’s “it’s a one-time fix,” and not something the district can responsibly do every year.
