OSHKOSH, Wis. (WISS) – The Democratic primary for the 6th Congressional District in Wisconsin is over 10 months away. However, the field of candidates swells with the declaration of seven candidates. One of those candidates, Aaron Wojciechowski of Oshkosh, is no stranger to the political process.

Wojciechowski, 28, is often referred to as “Wojo,” and his campaign is named Wojo for Congress. He made his first political run at the age of 19. He says he was not going to run again, but he caught the inspiration to do so during a “No Kings” rally this year.

“I’m just kind of seeing what’s going on across our country,” he said. “I saw all these people who, many of whom have never been involved politically, this is the first time they’ve done a rally or joined in or felt the need to do something. And I said, ‘You know, I didn’t see anyone really deciding to step up to run for this position.’ In that moment, I thought, ‘If not me, then who? And if not now, when?’”

While he is the youngest person running to be the congressional representative for the 6th CD, Wojciechowski says he is the most experienced. He served as a Winnebago County Supervisor from 2016 to 2020. He also served on the Oshkosh Common Council from 2021 to 2023.

“We’re just feeling a lot of stress and anxiety across this country and in these communities, and one of the things I’ve always led with is empathy. I think we need more of that, less of this divisiveness, less of this name-calling and fiery rhetoric that is leading to violence,” said Wojciechowski. “We need someone who can kind of simmer people down, bring people together, and have these meaningful conversations.”

Platform

Affordability

Wojciechowski said his major platform issue is affordability across a broad spectrum of issues, from minimum wage to healthcare costs, prescription costs, rent, and housing costs.

”Affordability is huge. You know, a very big topic. But within that, lowering healthcare and prescriptions, making rent more affordable by making sure that big corporations and private equity can’t snatch up all the available housing, and raising the minimum wage,” Wojciechowski said. “Making sure unions and laborers have the ability to come together and bargain for better rights and working conditions. And so everything’s kind of encapsulated in there. But I would say affordability is kind of the forefront of why I’m running too. Just to have someone who actually understands advocating for these issues.”

He said that he grew up in a low-income family with parents who worked long hours. He and his brothers relied on free school lunches. His sister was very ill during their childhood, leaving their parents with massive medical debt.

“Everywhere you go, who you talk to, regardless of their politics, it’s ‘My rent has gotten higher. My electricity’s gotten higher. Groceries are still going up. Gas is going up,” he said. “Life is becoming too unaffordable for anyone in the low-income and middle class to afford.”

Time for a change

While Wojciechowski knows there are seven other Democrats that he will face in the primary first, he is looking forward to a race with incumbent 6th Congressional District Rep., Glenn Grothman (R – Fond du Lac)

“ Really, I just don’t think that our current representative, Glenn Grothman, has been doing a great job. He’s been in politics for the last 30 years. And I actually posed this question before I decided to run. I said to people, ‘What is one thing that Glenn Grossman has actually done for our district?’” He added, “So I think we just need new leadership: someone who actually understands what’s at stake and someone who has to live in that future.”

Wojciechowski has worked as a teacher in the Oshkosh Area School District and is currently Assistant Director of Student Activities at Lawrence University.

The Democratic Field of contenders for the 6th Congressional District is a long one. In addition to Wojciechowski, Amanda Bell, Kelly Brown, Michael Heidenreich, John Macho, Joey Marschall, Kortney Oldham, and Bradley Smith are also running. Those candidates will face off in the Democratic primary on August 11, 2026.

On the Republican side, Grothman faces a challenge from Johnathan Peetz of Pardeeville.
