Randy Bachman a guest on Those Were the Days
RICHLAND CENTER, WI (WRCO) – We will have some fun Saturday night during Those Were the Days. By listener request I will resurrect an interview with Randy Bachman, and we will feature stories and songs about his days with the Guess Who and BTO. My library of music maker interviews is literally hundreds of hours. If there is a past interview that you enjoyed hearing, drop me a line and I will see if I can work it into a future show. The Bachman interview has never aired in its entirety. One of our good listeners heard me play a snippet of my talk with Randy and told me he would love to hear more of it.
Another feature of this Saturday night will be a spotlight on the Surf Ballroom and the all-new Surf Ballroom Music Experience Center in Clear Lake, Iowa. Brian Luallen, Chief Executive Officer will talk about this amazing venue and the iconic Surf Ballroom which was the last place that Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper played.
The fall of 1975 will be featured for a time this weekend with memories of the records I bought with my hay making and egg gathering money. Often times my mother would bribe me in exchange for good school behavior. I benefitted in September and October, but when November arrived it meant parent/teacher conferences and the funding for my records suddenly dried up. Some of faves on the radio then were hits such as Ballroom Blitz-Sweet, Miracles-Jefferson Starship, Lyin Eyes-Eagles, Fame-David Bowie, Feel Like Makin Love-Bad Company, How Sweet It Is (To Be Love By You)-James Taylor, and Katmandu-Bob Seger.
I will not be taking your requests this week as we have a family wedding to attend. I will be missing you all. Music shout outs and trivia will return next weekend. Since 1986 we have been playing all the greatest vinyl ever on Those Were the Days which is now heard on WRCO FM 100.9, WRCO.com, and on the Civic Media app.
