MADISON, Wis. (CIVIC MEDIA) – The application period for a grant program that supports local governments and tribal nations in transferring certain duties to other eligible communities is now open.

The Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) began accepting applications for the Innovation Grant program on Sept. 17, according to a news release. The grant provides funding to a county, municipality, or tribe that agrees to transfer eligible services to another county, municipality, tribe, non-profit organization or private entity.

The following services are accepted under the grant:

  • Public safety, law enforcement, and emergency services
  • Fire protection
  • Courts and jails
  • Public works and information technology
  • Administration, including staffing and payroll
  • Economic development and tourism
  • Public health
  • Housing, planning, and zoning
  • Parks and recreation
  • Training and communications

Interested parties can fill out an application at the DOR’s online portal. Applicants are required to submit a signed contract or agreement that meets the grants’ requirements. Additional information on the program can be found here.
