MADISON, Wis. (WMDX) – The city of Madison and Teamsters 120 have a new contract for Metro Transit bus drivers and mechanics.

At Metro Transit, 425 staffers have been working without a contract since December.

The new deal includes 3 percent yearly raises, and a one-time bonus to keep up with inflation. It also includes increased collaboration with the union over work conditions, and ensuring every driver has access to personal protective equipment.

Plus, city officials said they’ll build off of their efforts to ensure a safe work environment. This comes at a time when we’ve seen an increase in attacks on Metro Transit drivers. There have been at least five in 2025.

Workers overwhelmingly approved this contract. Leaders from Teamsters Local 120 said 94.6% percent of their members voted yes.

“This hard-won victory is the result of 11 months of dedicated bargaining,” union leaders posted on Facebook. “Congratulations to our members and committee for their strength and solidarity in securing the best contract in decades!”

“Metro Transit provides a vital public service that our community depends on,” Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway said in a statement. “This would not be possible without the dedicated people who keep the buses running. The City of Madison values our union partners, and this agreement demonstrates that by working together, we can do right by our employees and our residents.”
