Royals and Packers win, hunting season to kick off.
Wisconsin Rapids Royals see their first win of the year and the Green Bay Packers beat Detroit. Hunting seasons start this weekend.
Royals net first win for local teams
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WFHR / WIRI) – The Wisconsin Rapids area got its first win of the 2025 High School Football season, as Assumption took down Pacelli 26-12.
Port Edwards, Nekoosa, and Wisconsin Rapids had tough luck, as Port fell to Wild Rose 42-20; Nekoosa lost to Berlin 44-14, and Rapids fell short to D.C. Everest 41-6.
This week, Wisconsin Rapids aim to get possession of the Ol’ River Jug when they take on Stevens Point Area Senior High at Goerke Field, while the Royals return home to take on Iola-Scandinavia.
Port Edwards returns home to take on Almond-Bancroft at 4 p.m., as Nekoosa gets its first home game since week 1 when they host Wautoma.
The Papermakers vs Hornets will be on 105.5 FM WIRI with Randy Pahl and Mike Kommer on the game with pregame beginning at 6:50pm.
Packers win opening game, return to play four days later
The Green Bay Packers opened the season with a statement victory on Sunday, Sept. 7 when they hosted Detroit.
The Packers scored early and often, while the defense kept the Lions off-balance to earn a 27-13 victory.
Newly acquired defensive player Micah Parsons made an impact from the onset as he finished the game with a sack.
The Packers return to play on Thursday, Sept. 11 when they host the Washington Commanders at 7:15 p.m.
Washington earned the win over the Packers in their last meeting in 2022 with a score of 23-21. The last time Washington played in Green Bay, the Packers won 24-10 in 2019.
The Packers hold the all-time series 22-17-1 and have not lost in Green Bay to Washington since 1988.
Hunting seasons open
The Wisconsin Archery season begins on Saturday, Sept. 13 along with several other hunting seasons for outdoors men and women to partake in.
Also opening are the Small Game and Fall Turkey seasons.
