River Riders Bike Share Fall Community Bike Ride
The River Riders Bike Share Fall Community Bike Ride circled Lake Wazeecha at the South Wood County Park starting from White Sands Beach.
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WFHR / WIRI) – The River Riders Bike Share Fall Community Bike Ride took place Wednesday night with Wood County Sheriff Shawn Becker.
This fun community event started about four years ago when Hannah Wendels Scott was just getting started with Wood County Health.
“I was actually an intern and we wanted to try and get some usage on the bikes and bring people together around something fun that gets you outside and active,” said Wendles Scott. “We thought it would be fun to partner with Sheriff Becker and kinda bring him into the fold. It lets people get to see everyone in a different light.”

Law Enforcement and Community
Sheriff Becker said he was all for the idea when Wendels Scott approached him. The event allows law enforcement officers to spend time with community members in a new way, as well as getting people to Wood County Parks.
“I’m like hey, what a great way to get out in the community and enjoy one of our parks too,” Becker said. “I think … people don’t get the opportunity to see all of the parks we have in the county.” He went on to say, “And this is, in my opinion, one of the best ones because you got a bike trail that goes all the way around it. You have a campground, a couple beaches. A great way to experience the park and, you know, get out with the community.”

The program began in 2015 and has grown since then. The cost for a River Riders Bike is a dollar per mile and will be available at least through October. Wendels Scott says they may be available even longer if the weather is nice. You do need to download the Koloni App from Google Play Store or the Apple Store.
It doesn’t matter which location you get the bike from, you can return it to any of the three locations throughout Wisconsin Rapids. They are located at South Wood County White Sands Beach, West Grand Avenue Bridge, and McMillan Memorial Library.
