High School Sports Kick Off. Packers Make Big Trade.

Local Football teams are still winless. Packers make a big trade prior to the first game. Rapids Volleyball has a busy week.

Local teams without a win

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. (WFHR, WIRI) – After week two of the regular season in high school Football, all four local teams are still looking for their first wins.

Wisconsin Rapids was downed by Rice Lake, 30-14 after the game was tied 14-14 in the third quarter.

Port Edwards was pounded by Tri-County 58-14 when it opened Central Wisconsin Conference- 8 play.

Assumption was shut out by Pepin/Alma 36-0, while Nekoosa couldn’t keep up with Westfield as they were defeated 56-24.

In week three, Wisconsin Rapids will host D.C. Everest in a pair of 0-2 teams while Port Edwards goes to Wild Rose in another match up of teams looking for their first wins.

Assumption plays at Pacelli, while Nekoosa goes to Berlin.

Wisconsin Rapids vs D.C. Everest will be on 105.5FM WIRI with the pregame show beginning at 6:50pm with Mike Kommer and Randy Pahl on the call.

Packers make blockbuster trade

In arguably the biggest trade of the 2025-2026 season, the Green Bay Packers have acquired Micah Parsons from the Dallas Cowboys.

Parsons made the trip to Green Bay while the Packers traded a pair of first round draft picks and Defensive Tackle, Kenny Clark, to Dallas.

The Packers and Dallas play on September 21 in Dallas at 7:20pm.

Opening game set for Packers

The Packers open up the regular season on Sunday, September 7 when they host the Detroit Lions at 3:25pm at Lambeau Field.

Detroit defeated the Packers both times they played last year and have won five of the last six match ups with Green Bay over the past three seasons.

Rapids Volleyball has a busy opening week

Wisconsin Rapids Volleyball has had a busy start to the season as they have played 11 matches in less than a week’s time.

At the end of it they stand with a 3-8 record. They went 1-3 at the Stevens Point Invite and 1-4 at their home, Cobleigh Invite. And they dropped a match with Auburndale 3-1.
