Main Street Bridge to close for seven months

OSHKOSH, Wis. (WISS) – The Main Street Bridge (U.S. 45) over the Fox River that connects the Sawdust District to the rest of Downtown Oshkosh will close for seven months starting September 2 for maintenance and improvements.
Main Street Bridge Project improvements
The bridge improvements and rehabilitations include:
- Rehabilitate existing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components of the bascule span
- Minor repairs to the operator’s house, hydraulic power units, and access platforms
- Concrete deck repairs and overlay of the fixed approach spans
- Removal and replacement of the steel grid deck on the movable span.
Anticipated Benefits
- Decreased maintenance costs associated with the structure
- Improved operation of the movable span
- Extending the life of the existing structure by replacing deteriorated and worn-out components
Main Street Bridge Detours
- Vehicle Detours: The detour utilizes 9th Avenue, Oregon Street, and Jackson Street.
- Pedestrian Detours: Uses sidewalks along 6th Avenue, Oregon Street, Jackson Street, Division Street, Pearl Avenue, and Main Street.
Access to local areas, businesses and emergency services will be maintained.

The bridge is expected to reopen in April 2026.
