Rafters conclude the season

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. (WFHR, WIRI) – The 72-game schedule came to an end for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters on Saturday, August ninth.

The Rafters concluded the season with an overall record of 22-49 marking its lowest total of wins in a season since the 2010 season when they finished 20-50.

The Championship game of the entire Northwoods League will be Thursday, Aug. 14 when the champions of the Great Lakes Division, Green Bay, will play at Duluth, the winner of the Great Plains Division in a winner-take-all contest.

Local football teams prep for scrimmages

The first work of practice is in the books and the first competitions are on the horizon, but first scrimmages need to be played, which will happen on Friday, August 15.

Nekoosa and Port Edwards will host scrimmages at their respective fields, while Wisconsin Rapids will participate at Appleton East.

Assumption is not slated to partake in a scrimmage.

Packers hit the road

After a 30-10 loss against the New York Jets in the opening preseason game, the Green Bay Packers return to work for its second outing.

On Saturday, August 16, the Packers will have its lone road game of the preseason when they take on the Indianapolis Colts at noon at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Packers and Colts last met on Sept. 15, 2024 at Lambeau Field where Green Bay earned a 16-10 victory.

Brewers continue to win

The Milwaukee Brewers continue to win games in the regular season as they stand at 12 straight wins as of Wednesday, August 13 after a 12-5 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Thursday, Aug. 14 is an off-day for the team, but they have a chance to tie the franchise’s all-time consecutive win mark on Friday, Aug. 15 in Cincinnati.

The all-time consecutive win mark was set in 1987 and stands at 13 games.
