Racine Police Step Up Patrols to Halt Takeovers

RACINE, Wis. (WRJN) – In response to recent incidents of large, disruptive gatherings, sometimes called “takeovers”, the Racine Police Department is putting in extra effort to break them up.

Recent reports have come from North Beach and other area parks, and at this point, the department says they’ve adopted a zero-tolerance policy for illegal activities.

Police say they’ve been called to several reports of unruly crowds, leading them to increase patrols around the clock. A statement says officers are using enhanced video surveillance at some public locations to help monitor and deter illegal behavior.

Along with the warning and notification to the community, police are also reminding everyone of existing rules. There’s a curfew of 11 p.m. for those under 18. Parks and beaches close at 10 p.m.

Law enforcement also says they will enforce laws against alcohol and glass containers in the beach area, in parks, and on playgrounds.

There is a request for people to call the Racine Police non-emergency number to report any gatherings that get rowdy.
