MADISON, Wis (CIVIC MEDIA) – May’s unemployment statistics for Wisconsin’s counties, cities, and metropolitan areas were revealed in a U.S. Bureau of Labor report Wednesday.
According to a Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) news release, unemployment rates increased in 11 of the state’s 13 metropolitan areas, with only Racine and Eau Claire seeing a dip. All 13 locations saw a general increase in unemployment over the course of the year.
Of Wisconsin’s 35 municipalities, rates increased in 30 and decreased in only three. Unemployment rates did not change in Janesville and Kenosha. Unemployment had gone up in all 35 municipalities over the last year.
In regard to the state’s counties, 37 saw a decrease in unemployment; there was an increase in 28, and the number did not change in seven. Over the last 12 months, unemployment went up in 70 counties and dropped in two.
