MADISON, Wis. (WMDX) – Torrential rain made a grocery store roof collapse and closed down multiple lanes on a major Wisconsin highway.

Madison set a rainfall record on Monday, June 23 when 2.48″ fell over a span of just three hours. The previous record was 2.25″ set back in 1994.

Historically, it was the 20th wettest single day in June, and the ninth wettest day in June since 1980.

Heavy rain poured down in such a short amount of time it caused a roof to partially collapse at Madison’s eastside Woodman’s grocery store.

Flooding was ongoing on many city streets: even on I-39/90, the two right lanes had to close from water on the road.

More rain is in the forecast this week, with another 0.25″ to 0.50″ expected Tuesday, possibly 0.25″ on Wednesday and another 1.00″ or so on Thursday, before the weather dries out for Friday.

The Weather Prediction Center has most of Wisconsin in a slight risk for excessive rainfall Tuesday.
